Conformal transformations of a Euclidean (complex) plane have some kind of completeness (sufficiency) for the solution of many mathematical and physical-mathematical problems formulated on this plane. There is no such completeness in the case of Euclidean, pseudo-Euclidean and polynumber spaces of dimension greater than two. In the present paper we show that using the concepts of analogical geometries allows us to generalize conformal transformations not only to the case of Euclidean or pseudo-Euclidean spaces, but also to the case of Finsler spaces, analogous to the spaces of affine connectedness. Examples of such transformations in the case of complex and hypercomplex numbers H_4 are presented. In the general case such transformations form a group of transitions, the elements of which can be viewed as transitions between projective Euclidean geometries of a distinguished class fixed by the choice of metric geometry admitting affine coordinates. The correlation between functions realizing generalized conformal transformations and generalized analytical functions can appear to be productive for the solution of fundamental problems in theoretical and mathematical physics.
We give a simple differential geometric proof of the conformal transformation of the night sky under change of observer. The proof does not rely on the four dimensionality of spacetime or on spinor methods. Furthermore, it really shows that the result does not depend on Lorentz transformations. This approach, by giving a transparent covariant expression to the conformal factor, shows that in most situations it is possible to define a thermal sky metric independent of the observer.
Higher-derivative analogues of multidimensional conformal particle and many-body conformal mechanics are constructed. Their Newton-Hooke counterparts are derived by applying appropriate coordinate transformations.
We construct confluent conformal blocks of the second kind of the Virasoro algebra. We also construct the Stokes transformations which map such blocks in one Stokes sector to another. In the BPZ limit, we verify explicitly that the constructed blocks and the associated Stokes transformations reduce to solutions of the confluent BPZ equation and its Stokes matrices, respectively. Both the confluent conformal blocks and the Stokes transformations are constructed by taking suitable confluent limits of the crossing transformations of the four-point Virasoro conformal blocks.
We study some aspects of conformal transformations in the context of twistor theory, leading to the definition of a frustrated conformal transformation. This equation relies on two instantons for the left and right copies of $Sp(1)$, one being self-dual and the other anti-self-dual. Solutions to this equation naturally generate maps on ambitwistor space due to an analog of the Penrose-Ward correspondence. A solution based on the BPST instanton is presented.
In this article we explain that several integrable mechanical billiards in the plane are connected via conformal transformations. We first remark that the free billiard in the plane are conformal equivalent to infinitely many billiard systems defined in central force problems on a particular fixed energy level. We then explain that the classical Hooke-Kepler correspondence can be carried over to a correspondence between integrable Hooke-Kepler billiards. As part of the conclusion we show that any focused conic section gives rise to integrable Kepler billiards, which brings generalizations to a…
We discuss the most general class of teleparallel scalar-torsion theories of gravity in their covariant formulation. The only restrictions we impose are the invariance of the action under diffeomorphisms and local Lorentz transformations, as well as vanishing direct coupling of the matter fields to the teleparallel spin connection. In this general setting we discuss the implications of local Lorentz invariance and diffeomorphism invariance and derive the general structure of the field equations. Further, we show how different theories of this class are related to each other by conformal transf…
Conformal and disformal transformations are now being very intensively studied in the context of various modified gravity theories. In particular, some special classes of them can be used for constructing Mimetic Dark Matter models. Recently, it has been shown that many more transformations of this type, if not virtually all of them when the coefficients depend on the scalar kinetic term, can produce new solutions with mimetic properties. The aim of this paper is to explain how it works at the level of the variational principle, and to express some worries about viability of these models.
We deal with the duality symmetry of the Dilaton field in cosmology and specifically with the so-called Gasperini-Veneziano duality transformation. In particular, we determine two conformal equivalent theories to the Dilaton field, and we show that under conformal transformations Gasperini-Veneziano duality symmetry does not survive. Moreover, we show that those theories share a common conservation law, of Noetherian kind, while the symmetry vector which generates the conservation law is an isometry only for the Dilaton field. Finally, we show that the Lagrangian of the Dilaton field is equiva…
We make use of the conformal compactification of Minkowski spacetime $M^{\#}$ to explore a way of describing general, nonlinear Maxwell fields with conformal symmetry. We distinguish the inverse Minkowski spacetime $[M^{\#}]^{-1}$ obtained via conformal inversion, so as to discuss a doubled compactified spacetime on which Maxwell fields may be defined. Identifying $M^{\#}$ with the projective light cone in $(4+2)$-dimensional spacetime, we write two independent conformal-invariant functionals of the $6$-dimensional Maxwellian field strength tensors -- one bilinear, the other trilinear in the f…
Meta-conformal transformations are constructed as sets of time-space transformations which are not angle-preserving but contain time- and space translations, time-space dilatations with dynamical exponent ${z}=1$ and whose Lie algebras contain conformal Lie algebras as sub-algebras. They act as dynamical symmetries of the linear transport equation in $d$ spatial dimensions. For $d=1$ spatial dimensions, meta-conformal transformations constitute new representations of the conformal Lie algebras, while for $d\ne 1$ their algebraic structure is different. Infinite-dimensional Lie algebras of meta…
We construct a nonunitary transformation that relates a given "asymptotically free" conformal quantum mechanical system $H_f$ with its confined, harmonically trapped version $H_c$. In our construction, Jordan states corresponding to the zero eigenvalue of $H_f$, as well as its eigenstates and Gaussian packets are mapped into the eigenstates, coherent states and squeezed states of $H_c$, respectively. The transformation is an automorphism of the conformal $\mathfrak{sl}(2,{\mathbb R})$ algebra of the nature of the fourth-order root of the identity transformation, to which a complex canonical tr…
