Partition- and moment functions for a general (not necessarily Gaussian) functional measure that is perturbed by a Gibbs factor are calculated using generalized Feynman graphs. From the graphical calculus, a new notion of Wick ordering arises, that coincides with orthogonal decompositions of Wiener-Itô type only if the measure is Gaussian. Proving a generalized linked cluster theorem, we show that the logarithm of the partition function can be expanded in terms of connected Feynman graphs ("linked cluster theorem").
Gaussian distributions can be generalized from Euclidean space to a wide class of Riemannian manifolds. Gaussian distributions on manifolds are harder to make use of in applications since the normalisation factors, which we will refer to as partition functions, are complicated, intractable integrals in general that depend in a highly non-linear way on the mean of the given distribution. Nonetheless, on Riemannian symmetric spaces, the partition functions are independent of the mean and reduce to integrals over finite dimensional vector spaces. These are generally still hard to compute numerica…
We call a Lebesgue-Feynman measure (LFM) any generalized measure (distribution in the sense of Sobolev and Schwartz) on a locally convex topological vector space E which is translation invariant. In the present paper, we investigate transformations of the LFM generated by transformations of the domain and also discuss the connections of these transformations of the LFM with so-called quantum anomalies, improving some recent results of teh authors and co-workers. We revisit the contradiction between the points of view on quantum anomalies presented in the books of Fujikawa and Suzuki on the one…
This paper studies the concept of power dissipation in infinite graphs and fractals associated with passive linear networks consisting of non-dissipative elements. In particular, we analyze the so-called Feynman-Sierpinski ladder, a fractal AC circuit motivated by Feynman's infinite ladder, that exhibits power dissipation and wave propagation for some frequencies. Power dissipation in this circuit is obtained as a limit of quadratic forms, and the corresponding power dissipation measure associated with harmonic potentials is constructed. The latter measure is proved to be continuous and singul…
We explain how Gaussian integrals over ensemble of complex matrices with source matrices generate Hurwitz numbers of the most general type, namely, Hurwitz numbers with arbitrary orientable or non-orientable base surface and arbitrary profiles at branch points. We use the Feynman diagram approach. The connections with topological theories and also with certain classical and quantum integrable theories in particular with Witten's description of two-dimensional gauge theory are shown.
Many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) is widely used in quantum physics, chemistry, and materials science. At the heart of MBPT is the Feynman diagrammatic expansion, which is, simply speaking, an elegant way of organizing the combinatorially growing number of terms of a certain Taylor expansion. In particular, the construction of the `bold Feynman diagrammatic expansion' involves the partial resummation to infinite order of possibly divergent series of diagrams. This procedure demands investigation from both the combinatorial (perturbative) and the analytical (non-perturbative) viewpoints. In …
We consider generalized time-fractional evolution equations of the form $$u(t)=u_0+\int_0^tk(t,s)Lu(s)ds$$ with a fairly general memory kernel $k$ and an operator $L$ being the generator of a strongly continuous semigroup. In particular, $L$ may be the generator $L_0$ of a Markov process $ξ$ on some state space $Q$, or $L:=L_0+b\nabla+V$ for a suitable potential $V$ and drift $b$, or $L$ generating subordinate semigroups or Schrödinger type groups. This class of evolution equations includes in particular time- and space- fractional heat and Schrödinger type equations. We show that a subordinat…

The Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model is a model of $q$ interacting fermions whose large N limit is dominated by melonic graphs. In this review we first present a diagrammatic proof of that result by direct, combinatorial analysis of its Feynman graphs. Gross and Rosenhaus have then proposed a generalization of the SYK model which involves fermions with different flavors. In terms of Feynman graphs, these flavors can be seen as reminiscent of the colors used in random tensor theory. Applying modern tools from random tensors to such a colored SYK model, all leading and next-to-leading orders diagra…
Recasting the $N$-point one loop scalar integral from Feynman to Schwinger parameters gives an integrand with a Gaussian form. By application of a Fourier transform, it is easy to derive explicit expressions for the two, three and four-point functions. The Fourier transformation disentangles singularities in the complex plane and extract their contribution as two-point functions in two dimensions. We explicitly derive a one dimensional expression for the (4D) four-point function whose integrand involves only square root and arcsine functions. This report is a condensed version of the approach …
This paper derives the Feynman rules for the diagrammatic perturbation expansion of the effective action around an arbitrary solvable problem. The perturbation expansion around a Gaussian theory is well known and composed of one-line irreducible diagrams only. For the expansions around an arbitrary, non-Gaussian problem, we show that a more general class of irreducible diagrams remains in addition to a second set of diagrams that has no analogue in the Gaussian case. The effective action is central to field theory, in particular to the study of phase transitions, symmetry breaking, effective e…
We study the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE) using noncommutative geometry and the homological framework of the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism. Coefficients of the correlation functions in the GUE with respect to the rank $N$ are described in terms of ribbon graph Feynman diagrams that then lead to a counting problem for the corresponding surfaces. The canonical relations provided by this homological setup determine a recurrence relation for these correlation functions. Using this recurrence relation and properties of the Catalan numbers, we determine the leading order behavior of the corre…
Tensor models are natural generalizations of matrix models. The interactions and observables in the case of unitary invariant models are generalizations of matrix traces. Some notable interactions in the literature include the melonic ones, the tetrahedral one as well as the planar ones in rank three, or necklaces in even ranks. Here we introduce generalized melonic interactions which generalize the melonic and necklace interactions. We characterize them as tree-like gluings of quartic interactions. We also completely characterize the Feynman graphs which contribute to the large $N$ limit. For…
The aim of this thesis is to analyze part of the results presented by R.E. Borcherds in his article on renormalization and quantum field theories. To facilitate this, the first chapter presents the basic facts on category theory, sheaf theory and the theory of distributions on a manifold. In the particular case of distributions on manifolds we differentiate between the H-distribution (introduced by Hörmander) and the D-distributions (described in the book of Dieudonn{é}) and extend the product of distributions defined by Hörmander only for H-distibution, to an action from H-distributions over …
