We present a novel control variate technique for enhancing the efficiency of Monte Carlo (MC) estimation of expectations involving solutions to stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Our method integrates a primary fine-time-step discretization of the SDE with a control variate derived from a secondary coarse-time-step discretization driven by a piecewise parabolic approximation of Brownian motion. This approximation is conditioned on the same fine-scale Brownian increments, enabling strong coupling between the estimators. The expectation of the control variate is computed via an independent MC simulation using the coarse approximation. We characterize the minimized quadratic error decay as a function of the computational budget and the weak and strong orders of the primary and secondary discretization schemes. We demonstrate the method's effectiveness through numerical experiments on representative SDEs.
In this paper, we will present a strong (or pathwise) approximation of standard Brownian motion by a class of orthogonal polynomials. The coefficients that are obtained from the expansion of Brownian motion in this polynomial basis are independent Gaussian random variables. Therefore it is practical (requires $N$ independent Gaussian coefficients) to generate an approximate sample path of Brownian motion that respects integration of polynomials with degree less than $N$. Moreover, since these orthogonal polynomials appear naturally as eigenfunctions of an integral operator defined by the Brown…
We present some results about connections between Littelmann paths and Brownian paths in the framework of affine Lie algebras. We expect that they will be the first steps on a way which could hopefully lead to a Pitman type theorem for a Brownian motion in an alcove associated to an affine Weyl group.
G-Brownian Motion as Rough Paths and Differential Equations Driven by G-Brownian Motion
We consider the stochastic continuity equation perturbed by a fractional Brownian motion and the drift is allowed to be discontinuous. We show that for almost all paths of the fractional Brownian motion there exists a solution to the equation.
By the work of P. Lévy, the sample paths of the Brownian motion are known to satisfy a certain Hölder regularity condition almost surely. This was later improved by Ciesielski, who studied the regularity of these paths in Besov and Besov-Orlicz spaces. We review these results and propose new function spaces of Besov type, strictly smaller than those of Ciesielski and Lévy, where the sample paths of the Brownian motion lie in almost surely. In the same spirit, we review and extend the work of Kamont, who investigated the same question for the multivariate Brownian sheet and function spaces of d…
The generalized fractional Brownian motion is a Gaussian self-similar process whose increments are not necessarily stationary. It appears in applications as the scaling limit of a shot noise process with a power law shape function and non-stationary noises with a power-law variance function. In this paper we study sample path properties of the generalized fractional Brownian motion, including Holder continuity, path differentiability/non-differentiability, and functional and local Law of the Iterated Logarithms.
We are interested in path decompositions of a perturbed reflecting Brownian motion (PRBM) at the hitting times and at the minimum. Our study relies on the loop soups developed by Lawler and Werner [10] and Le Jan [13]-[14], in particular on a result discovered by Lupu [15] identifying the law of the excursions of the PRBM above its past minimum with the loop measure of Brownian bridges.
In this paper, by using Girsanov's transformation and the property of the corresponding reference stochastic differential equations, we investigate weak existence and uniqueness of solutions and weak convergence of Euler-Maruyama scheme to stochastic functional differential equations with Hölder continuous drift driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (1/2,1)$.
Based on the recent development of the framework of Volterra rough paths, we consider here the probabilistic construction of the Volterra rough path associated to the fractional Brownian motion with $H>\frac{1}{2}$ and for the standard Brownian motion. The Volterra kernel $k(t,s)$ is allowed to be singular, and behaving similar to $|t-s|^{-γ}$ for some $γ\geq 0$. The construction is done in both the Stratonovich and Itô sense. It is based on a modified Garsia-Rodemich-Romsey lemma which has an interest in its own right, as well as tools from Malliavin calculus. A discussion of challenges and p…
We construct a $K$-rough path above either a space-time or a spatial fractional Brownian motion, in any space dimension $d$. This allows us to provide an interpretation and a unique solution for the corresponding parabolic Anderson model, understood in the renormalized sense. We also consider the case of a spatial fractional noise.
This paper is devoted to studying the averaging principle for fast-slow system of rough differential equations driven by mixed fractional Brownian rough path. The fast component is driven by Brownian motion, while the slow component is driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H ~(1/3 < H\leq 1/2)$. Combining the fractional calculus approach to rough path theory and Khasminskii's classical time discretization method, we prove that the slow component strongly converges to the solution of the corresponding averaged equation in the $L^1$-sense. The averaging principle for a fast-slow…
We study the convergence in rough path topology of a certain class of discrete processes, the hidden Markov walks, to a Brownian motion with an area anomaly. This area anomaly, which is a new object, keeps track of the time-correlation of the discrete models and brings into light the question of embeddings of discrete processes into continuous time. We also identify an underlying combinatorial structure in the hidden Markov walks, which turns out to be a generalization of the occupation time from the classical ergodic theorem in the spirit of rough paths.
In this paper we study the convergence of dynamical discrete web (DyDW) to the dynamical Brownian web (DyBW) in the path space topology. We show that almost surely the DyBW has RCLL paths taking values in an appropriate metric space and as a sequence of RCLL paths, the scaled dynamical discrete web converges to the DyBW. This proves weak convergence of the DyDW process to the DyBW process.
