We study infinite-dimensional analogues of nilpotent and solvable Lie algebras, focusing on the classes of pro-nilpotent, residually nilpotent, pro-solvable and residually solvable Lie algebras. We extend classical triangularization results (Engel's and Lie's theorems) to the pro-setting and establish existence results for the pro-nilpotent radical in pro-solvable algebras and in certain residually solvable algebras. We adapt finite-dimensional construction methods to produce residually solvable extensions with a given pro-nilpotent radical under natural finiteness conditions. By analyzing derivations and maximal tori of pro-nilpotent algebras, we extend the notion of rank and show that, for pro-nilpotent algebras of maximal rank, every derivation of a maximal residually solvable extension is inner. Finally, we describe standard constructions (tensor and direct sum products, central extensions) that preserve pro-nilpotency.
In this paper we introduce the notion of pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebra and under a condition we prove that a complex maximal extension of a finite-dimensional pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebra is isomorphic to a semidirect sum of the nilradical and its maximal torus. We also prove that such solvable Lie algebras are complete and we specify a subclass of the maximal solvable extensions of pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras that have trivial cohomology group. Some comparisons with the results obtained earlier are given.
The paper is devoted to the study of pro-solvable Lie algebras whose maximal pro-nilpotent ideal is either $\mathfrak{m}_0$ or $\mathfrak{m}_2$. Namely, we describe such Lie algebras and establish their completeness. Triviality of the second cohomology group for one of the obtained algebra is established.
In this paper, we first study properties of the lower central chains for Novikov algebras. Then we show that for every Lie nilpotent Novikov algebra~$\mathcal{N}$, the ideal of~$\mathcal{N}$ generated by the set~$\{ab - ba\mid a, b\in \mathcal{N}\}$ is nilpotent. We secondly provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the graph $E$ and the field $K$ for which the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ is Lie solvable. Consequently, we obtain a complete description of Lie nilpotent Leavitt path algebras, and show that the Lie solvability of~$L_K(E)$ and the Lie nilpotency of $[L_K(E),L_K(E)]$ are the…
This is an old paper put here for archeological purposes. It is proved that a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over a field of characteristic p>5, that can be written as a vector space (not necessarily direct) sum of two nilpotent subalgebras, is solvable. The same result (but covering also the cases of low characteristics) was established independently by V. Panyukov (Russ. Math. Surv. 45 (1990), N4, 181-182), and the homological methods utilized in the proof were developed later in arXiv:math/0204004. Many inaccuracies in the English translation are corrected, otherwise the text is identical t…
Semisimple Lie algebras have been completely classified by Cartan and Killing. The Levi theorem states that every finite dimensional Lie algebra is isomorphic to a semidirect sum of its largest solvable ideal and a semisimple Lie algebra. These focus the classification of solvable Lie algebras as one of the main challenges of Lie algebra research. One approach towards this task is to take a class of nilpotent Lie algebras and construct all extensions of these algebras to solvable ones. In this paper, we propose another approach, i.e., to decompose a solvable nonnilpotent Lie algebra to two nil…
In this paper, we find a family $SL^{n,m}$, in any arbitrary dimensions, of cohomologically rigid solvable Lie superalgebras with nilradical the model filiform Lie superalgebra $L^{n,m}$. Moreover, we exhibit a family of cohomologically rigid solvable Lie superalgebras with nilradical the model nilpotent Lie superalgebra of generic characteristic sequence. Both cases correspond to solvable Lie superalgebras of maximal dimension for a given nilradical. Contrariwise, we will show that the family of Lie superalgebras $SL^{n,m}$ can be deformed if defined over a field of odd characteristic.
Let K be a field and A be a commutative associative K-algebra which is an integral domain. The Lie algebra Der A of all K-derivations of A is an A-module in a natural way and if R is the quotient field of A, then RDer A is a vector space over R. It is proved that if L is a nilpotent subalgebra of RDer A of rank k over R (i.e. such that dim_{R}RL=k), then the derived length of L is at most k and L is finite dimensional over its field of constants. In case of solvable Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero their derived length does not exceed 2k. Nilpotent and solvable Lie algebras of …
We compare the maximal dimension of abelian subalgebras and the maximal dimension of abelian ideals for finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We show that these dimensions coincide for solvable Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We compute this invariant for all complex nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension n less than 8. Furthermore we study the case where there exists an abelian subalgebra of codimension 2. Here we explicitly construct an abelian ideal of codimension 2 in case of nilpotent Lie algebras.
In this paper we show that every finite-dimensional Zinbiel algebra over an arbitrary field is nilpotent, extending a previous result by other authors that they are solvable.
We show that the right ideal of a Novikov algebra generated by the square of a right nilpotent subalgebra is nilpotent. We also prove that a $G$-graded Novikov algebra $N$ over a field $K$ with solvable $0$-component $N_0$ is solvable, where $G$ is a finite additive abelean group and the characteristic of $K$ does not divide the order of the group $G$. We also show that any Novikov algebra $N$ with a finite solvable group of automorphisms $G$ is solvable if the algebra of invariants $N^G$ is solvable.
Given a pair of nilpotent Lie algebras $A$ and $B$, an extension $0\xrightarrow{} A\xrightarrow{} L\xrightarrow{} B\xrightarrow{} 0$ is not necessarily nilpotent. However, if $L_1$ and $L_2$ are extensions which correspond to lifts of a map $Φ:B\xrightarrow{} \text{Out}(A)$, it has been shown that $L_1$ is nilpotent if and only if $L_2$ is nilpotent. In the present paper, we prove analogues of this result for the algebras of Loday. As an important consequence, we thereby gain its associative analogue as a special case of diassociative algebras.
We prove that any Novikov algebra over a field of characteristic $\neq 2$ is Lie-solvable if and only if its commutator ideal $[N,N]$ is right nilpotent. We also construct examples of infinite-dimensional Lie-solvable Novikov algebras $N$ with non nilpotent commutator ideal $[N,N]$.
It is shown that any finite-dimensional homomorphic image of an inverse limit of nilpotent not-necessarily-associative algebras over a field is nilpotent. More generally, this is true of algebras over a general commutative ring k, with "finite-dimensional" replaced by "of finite length as a k-module". These results are obtained by considering the multiplication algebra M(A) of an algebra A (the associative algebra of k-linear maps A -> A generated by left and right multiplications by elements of A), and its behavior with respect to nilpotence, inverse limits, and homomorphic images. As a corol…
The main purpose of this paper is to study the finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebras described in its title, which we call {\em minimal non-${\mathcal N}$}. To facilitate this we investigate solvable Lie algebras of nilpotent length $k$, and of nilpotent length $\leq k$, and {\em extreme} Lie algebras, which have the property that their nilpotent length is equal to the number of conjugacy classes of maximal subalgebras. We characterise the minimal non-${\mathcal N}$ Lie algebras in which every nilpotent subalgebra is abelian, and those of solvability index $\leq 3$.
We study numerical invariants of identities of finite-dimensional solvable Lie superalgebras. We define new series of finite-dimensional solvable Lie superalgebras $L$ with non-nilpotent derived subalgebra $L'$ and discuss their codimension growth. For the first algebra of this series we prove the existence and integrality of $exp(L)$.
In the paper the class of all solvable extensions of a filiform Leibniz algebra in the infinite-dimensional case is classified. The filiform Leibniz algebra is taken as a maximal pro-nilpotent ideal of residually solvable Leibniz algebra. It is proven that the second cohomology group of the extension is trivial.
This paper is devoted to the description of complex finite-dimensional algebras of level two. We obtain the classification of algebras of level two in the variety of Leibniz algebras. It is shown that, up to isomorphism, there exist three Leibniz algebras of level two, one of which is solvable, and two of which are nilpotent. Moreover we describe all algebras of level two in the variety of nilpotent algebras.
We study certain types of ideals in the standard Borel subalgebra of an untwisted affine Lie algebra. We classify these ideals in terms of the root combinatorics and give an explicit formula for the number of such ideals in type $A$. The formula involves various aspects of combinatorics of Dyck paths and leads to a new interesting integral sequence.
In this paper we prove that every finite-dimensional nilpotent restricted Lie algebra over a field of prime characteristic has an outer restricted derivation whose square is zero unless the restricted Lie algebra is a torus or it is one-dimensional or it is isomorphic to the three-dimensional Heisenberg algebra in characteristic two as an ordinary Lie algebra. This result is the restricted analogue of a result of Tôgô on the existence of nilpotent outer derivations of ordinary nilpotent Lie algebras in arbitrary characteristic and the Lie-theoretic analogue of a classical group-theoretic resul…
The paper concerns an analogue of the famous Schur multiplier in the context of associative algebras and a measure of how far its dimension is from being maximal. Applying a methodology from Lie theory, we characterize all finite-dimensional nilpotent associative algebras for which this measure is ten or less.
In this paper we describe solvable Leibniz algebras whose quotient algebra by one-dimensional ideal is a Lie algebra with rank equal to the length of the characteristic sequence of its nilpotent radical. We prove that such Leibniz algebra is unique and centerless. Also it is proved that the first and the second cohomology groups of the algebra with coefficients in itself is trivial.

Along this paper we show that under certain conditions the method for describing of solvable Lie and Leibniz algebras with maximal codimension of nilradical is also extensible to Lie and Leibniz superalgebras, respectively. In particular, we totally determine the solvable Lie and Leibniz superalgebras with maximal codimension of model filiform and model nilpotent nilradicals. Finally, it is established that the superderivations of the obtained superalgebras are inner.
In 1981, S. V. Pchelintsev introduced the notion of topological rank for Spechtian varieties of algebras as a certain tool for studying the structure of non-nilpotent subvarieties in a given variety. We provide a variety of right alternative algebras of arbitrary given finite topological rank. Namely, we prove that the topological rank of the variety of right alternative metabelian (solvable of index two) algebras that are Lie-nilpotent of step not more than $s$ over a field of characteristic distinct from two and three is equal to $s$.
In this paper we show that the method for describing solvable Lie algebras with given nilradical by means of non-nilpotent outer derivations of the nilradical is also applicable to the case of Leibniz algebras. Using this method we extend the classification of solvable Lie algebras with naturally graded filiform Lie algebra to the case of Leibniz algebras. Namely, the classification of solvable Leibniz algebras whose nilradical is a naturally graded filiform Leibniz algebra is obtained.
We study solvable Lie algebras in prime characteristic $p$ that admit non-singular derivations. We show that Jacobson's Theorem remains true if the quotients of the derived series have dimension less than~$p$. We also study the structure of Lie algebras with non-singular derivations in which the derived subalgebra is abelian and has codimension~one. The paper presents some new examples of solvable, but not nilpotent, Lie algebras of derived length~3 with non-singular derivations.

The goal of this paper is to show that many key results found in the study of Einstein Lorentzian nilpotent Lie algebras can still hold in the more general settings of unimodular Lie algebras and (completely) solvable Lie algebras.
In this paper, we introduce near perfect ideals and upper bounded ideals, and study them as well as perfect ideals for finite dimensional Lie algebras. We show that the largest perfect ideal and the largest near perfect ideal of a finite dimensional Lie algebra always exist, and are equal to the smallest ideal of the derived series, and the smallest ideal of the lower central series, respectively. We call them the perfect radical and the near perfect radical of that Lie algebra, respectively. A nonzero Lie algebra is solvable if and only if its perfect radical is zero. The factor algebra of a …
In this note we establish several basic properties of nilpotent Sabinin algebras. Namely, we show that nilpotent Sabinin algebras (1) can be integrated to produce nilpotent loops, (2) satisfy an analogue of the Ado theorem, (3) have nilpotent Lie envelopes. We also give a new set of axioms for Sabinin algebras. These axioms reflect the fact that a complementary subspace to a Lie subalgebra in a Lie algebra is a Sabinin algebra. Finally, we note that the non-associative version of the Jennings theorem produces a version of Ado theorem for loops whose commutator-associator filtration is of finit…
An infinite filiform Lie algebra L is residually nilpotent and its graded associated with respect to the lower central series has smallest possible dimension in each degree but is still infinite. This means that gr(L) is of dimension two in degree one and of dimension one in all higher degrees. We prove that if L is solvable, then already [L,L] is abelian. The isomorphism classes in this case are given in a paper by Bratzlavsky, but the proof there is incomplete. We make the necessary additional computations and restate Bratzlavskys result when the ground field is the complex numbers.
W. A. Moens proved that a Lie algebra is nilpotent if and only if it admits an invertible Leibniz-derivation. In this paper we show that with the definition of Leibniz-derivation from W. A. Moens the similar result for non Lie Leibniz algebras is not true. Namely, we give an example of non nilpotent Leibniz algebra which admits an invertible Leibniz-derivation. In order to extend the results of paper W. A. Moens for Leibniz algebras we introduce a definition of Leibniz-derivation of Leibniz algebras which agrees with Leibniz-derivation of Lie algebras case. Further we prove that a Leibniz alge…
A finite-dimensional Lie algebra $L$ over a field $F$ is called an $A$-algebra if all of its nilpotent subalgebras are abelian. This is analogous to the concept of an $A$-group: a finite group with the property that all of its Sylow subgroups are abelian. These groups were first studied in the 1940s by Philip Hall, and are still studied today. Rather less is known about $A$-algebras, though they have been studied and used by a number of authors. The purpose of this paper is to obtain more detailed results on the structure of solvable Lie $A$-algebras. It is shown that they split over each term…
We give a computional method to construct and classify nilpotent Jordan algebras over any arbitrary fields by the second cohomolgy of nilpotent Jordan algebras of low dimension "analogue of Skjelbred-Sund method", we see that every nilpotent Jordan algebras can be constructed by the second cohomolgy of nilpotent Jordan algebras of low dimension. We use this method to classify nilpotent Jordan algebras up to dimension three over any field and nilpotent Jordan algebras of dimension four over an algebraic closed field of characteristic not 2 and over the real field R. Also commutative nilpotent a…
The purpose of this paper is to classify all $p$-nilpotent restricted Lie algebras of dimension 5 over perfect fields of characteristic $p\geq 5$. Our work builds upon the recent work of Schneider and Usefi on the classification of $p$-nilpotent restricted Lie algebras of dimension up to 4 over perfect fields of characteristic $p$. The method we use here to classify $p$-nilpotent restricted Lie algebras is the analogue of Skjelbred-Sund method for classifying nilpotent Lie algebras.
This paper concerns the problem of classifying finite-dimensional real solvable Lie algebras whose derived algebras are of codimension 1 or 2. On the one hand, we present an effective method to classify all $(n+1)$-dimensional real solvable Lie algebras having 1-codimensional derived algebras provided that a full classification of $n$-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras is given. On the other hand, the problem of classifying all $(n+2)$-dimensional real solvable Lie algebras having 2-codimensional derived algebras is proved to be wild. In this case, we provide a method to classify a subclass of…
The word problem is an old and central problem in (computational) group theory. It is well-known that the word problem is undecidable in general, but decidable for specific types of presentations. Consistent polycyclic presentations are an important class of group presentations with solvable word problem. These presentations play a fundamental role in the algorithmic theory of polycyclic groups. Problems analogous to the word problem arise when computing with other algebraic structures. Various aspects of this topic are considered in the literature. The aim of this paper is to provide a genera…
The present paper is devoted to the description of rigid solvable Leibniz algebras. In particular, we prove that solvable Leibniz algebras under some conditions on the nilradical are rigid and we describe four-dimensional solvable Leibniz algebras with three-dimensional rigid nilradical. We show that the Grunewald-O'Halloran's conjecture "any $n$-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra is a degeneration of some algebra of the same dimension" holds for Lie algebras of dimensions less than six and for Leibniz algebras of dimensions less than four. The algebra of level one, which is omitted in the 1991…
We describe all $\mathbb F_{p}$-braces of cardinality $p^{4}$ which are not right nilpotent. Our solution illustrates a general way of investigating $\mathbb F_{p}$-braces of cardinality $p^{n}$ with a given multiplicative group. The constructed braces are left nilpotent, solvable and prime, and they also contain a non-zero strongly nilpotent ideal.
We define a solvable extension of the graph 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras of [5] by adding elements corresponding to the 3-cliques of the graph. We study some of their basic properties and we prove that two such Lie algebras are isomorphic if and only if their graphs are isomorphic. We also briefly discuss some metric properties, providing examples of homogeneous spaces with nonpositive curvature operator and solvsolitons.
We introduce nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras including analogues of Heisenberg Lie algebras and free nilpotent Lie algebras. We study homology of k-ary nilpotent Lie algebras by using a modification of Chevalley-Eilenberg complex. For some classes of nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras and in particular Heisenberg k-ary Lie algebras we give explicit formulas for Betti numbers. Representation stability of free nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras is proven and lower bounds for Betti numbers are described by Schur modules. We also verify that toral rank conjecture holds for the classes we studied. Moreover, for 2…
