In this paper we prove that every finite-dimensional nilpotent restricted Lie algebra over a field of prime characteristic has an outer restricted derivation whose square is zero unless the restricted Lie algebra is a torus or it is one-dimensional or it is isomorphic to the three-dimensional Heisenberg algebra in characteristic two as an ordinary Lie algebra. This result is the restricted analogue of a result of Tôgô on the existence of nilpotent outer derivations of ordinary nilpotent Lie algebras in arbitrary characteristic and the Lie-theoretic analogue of a classical group-theoretic result of Gaschütz on the existence of $p$-power automorphisms of $p$-groups. As a consequence we obtain that every finite-dimensional non-toral nilpotent restricted Lie algebra has an outer restricted derivation.
Jacobson proved that if a Lie algebra admits an invertible derivation, it must be nilpotent. He also suspected, though incorrectly, that the converse might be true: that every nilpotent Lie algebra has an invertible derivation. We prove that a Lie algebra is nilpotent if and only if it admits an invertible Leibniz-derivation. The proofs are elementary in nature and are based on well-known techniques.
In this paper, we first study derivations in non nilpotent Lie triple algebras. We determine the structure of derivation algebra according to whether the algebra admits an idempotent or a pseudo-idempotent. We study the multiplicative structure of non nilpotent dimensionally nilpotent Lie triple algebras. We show that when $n=2p+1$ the adapted basis coincides with the canonical basis of the gametic algebra $G(2p+2,2)$ or this one obviously associated to a pseudo-idempotent and if $n=2p$ then the algebra is either one of the precedent case or a conservative Bernstein algebra.
We investigate almost inner derivations of some finite-dimensional nilpotent Leibniz algebras. We show the existence of almost inner derivations of Leibniz filiform non-Lie algebras differing from inner derivations, we also show that the almost inner derivations of some filiform Leibniz algebras containing filiform Lie algebras do not coincide with inner derivations.
In this paper we investigate pre-derivations of filiform Leibniz algebras. Recall that the set of filiform Leibniz algebras of fixed dimension can be decomposed into three non-intersected families. We describe the pre-derivation of filiform Leibniz algebras for the first and second families. We found sufficient conditions under which filiform Leibniz algebras are strongly nilpotent. Moreover, for the first and second families, we give the description of characteristically nilpotent algebras which are non-strongly nilpotent.
We describe the groups of inner and outer automorphisms of the free metabelian nilpotent Lie algebra of finite rank over a field of characteristic 0. To obtain this result we first describe the groups of inner and continuous outer automorphisms of the completion with respect to the formal power series topology of the free metabelian Lie algebra finite rank.
We study almost inner derivations of $2$-step nilpotent Lie algebras of genus $2$, i.e., having a $2$-dimensional commutator ideal, using matrix pencils. In particular we determine all almost inner derivations of such algebras in terms of minimal indices and elementary divisors over an arbitrary algebraically closed field of characteristic not $2$ and over the real numbers.
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and $A$ an integral $K$-domain. The Lie algebra $Der_{K}(A)$ of all $K$-derivations of $A$ contains the set $LND(A)$ of all locally nilpotent derivations. The structure of $LND(A)$ is of great interest, and the question about properties of Lie algebras contained in $LND(A)$ is still open. An answer to it in the finite dimensional case is given. It is proved that any finite dimensional (over $K$) subalgebra of $Der_{K}(A)$ consisting of locally nilpotent derivations is nilpotent. In the case $A=K[x, y],$ it is also proved that any …
In this paper is devoted to nilpotent finite-dimensional evolution algebras E with $dimE^2 = dimE-1$. We described Lie algebras associated with evolution algebras whose nilindex is maximal. Moreover, in terms of this Lie algebra we fully construct nilpotent evolution algebra with maximal index of nilpotency. Furthermore, this result allowed us fully characterize all local and 2-local derivations of the considered evolution algebras. All automorphisms and local automorphisms of the nilpotent evolution algebras with maximal nilindex are found.
Moens proved that a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over field of characteristic zero is nilpotent if and only if it has an invertible Leibniz-derivation. In this article we prove the analogous results for finite-dimensional Malcev, Jordan, (-1,1)-, quasiassociative, quasialternative, right alternative and Malcev-admissible noncommutative Jordan algebras over the field of characteristic zero. Also, we describe all Leibniz-derivations of semisimple Jordan, right alternative and Malcev algebras.
W. A. Moens proved that a Lie algebra is nilpotent if and only if it admits an invertible Leibniz-derivation. In this paper we show that with the definition of Leibniz-derivation from W. A. Moens the similar result for non Lie Leibniz algebras is not true. Namely, we give an example of non nilpotent Leibniz algebra which admits an invertible Leibniz-derivation. In order to extend the results of paper W. A. Moens for Leibniz algebras we introduce a definition of Leibniz-derivation of Leibniz algebras which agrees with Leibniz-derivation of Lie algebras case. Further we prove that a Leibniz alge…
We study almost inner derivations of Lie algebras, which were introduced by Gordon and Wilson in their work on isospectral deformations of compact solvmanifolds. We compute all almost inner derivations for low-dimensional Lie algebras, and introduce the concept of fixed basis vectors for proving that all almost inner derivations are inner for $2$-step nilpotent Lie algebras determined by graphs, free $2$ and $3$-step nilpotent Lie algebras, free metabelian nilpotent Lie algebras on two generators, almost abelian Lie algebras and triangular Lie algebras. On the other hand we also exhibit famili…
Let L be the free m-generated metabelian nilpotent of class c Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 0. An automorphism f of L is called normal if f(I)=I for every ideal I of the algebra L. Such automorphisms form a normal subgroup N(L) of Aut(L) containing the group of inner automorphisms. We describe the group of normal automorphisms of L and the quotient group of Aut(L) modulo N(L).
Many theorems and formulas of Lie algebras run quite parallel to Lie superalgebra case, sometimes giving interesting results. So it is quite natural to extend the new concepts of Lie algebra immediately to Lie superalgebra case, as these type of algebras have wide applications in physics and related theories. Using the concept of isoclinism, F. Saeedi and S. Sheikh-Mohseni recently studied the central derivation of nilpotent Lie algebra with nilindex 2. The purpose of the present paper is to continue and extend the investigation to obtain some similar results for Lie superalgebras, as isoclini…
We continue the algebraic study of almost inner derivations of Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero and determine these derivations for free nilpotent Lie algebras, for almost abelian Lie algebras, for Lie algebras whose solvable radical is abelian and for several classes of filiform nilpotent Lie algebras. We find a family of $n$-dimensional characteristically nilpotent filiform Lie algebras $\mathfrak{f}_n$, for all $n\ge 13$, all of whose derivations are almost inner. Finally we compare the almost inner derivations of Lie algebras considered over two different fields $K\supseteq…
Let $\mathbb K$ be a field of characteristic zero, $A$ an integral domain over $\mathbb K$ with the field of fractions $R = \text{Frac}(A),$ and $\text{Der}_{\mathbb{K}}A$ the Lie algebra of all $\mathbb K$-derivations on $A$. Let $W(A):=R\text{Der}_{\mathbb{K}} A$ and $L$ a nilpotent subalgebra of rank $n$ over $R$ of the Lie algebra $W(A).$ We prove that if the center $Z=Z(L)$ is of rank $\geq n-2$ over $R$ and $F=F(L)$ is the field of constants for $L$ in $R,$ then the Lie algebra $FL$ is contained in a locally nilpotent subalgebra of $ W(A)$ of rank $n$ over $R$ with a natural basis over t…
We extend existing results on locally nilpotent differential polynomial rings to skew extensions of rings. We prove that if $\mathscr{G}=\{σ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a locally finite family of automorphisms of an algebra $R$, $\mathscr{D}=\{δ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a family of skew derivations of $R$ such that the prime radical $P$ of $R$ is strongly invariant under $\mathscr{D}$, then the ideal $P\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle^*$ of $R\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle$, generated by $P$, is locally nilpotent. We then apply this result to algebras with locally nilpotent derivations. We prov…
Let B be an algebra over a field k and let Der(B) be the set of k-derivations from B to B. We define what it means for a subset of Der(B) to be a locally nilpotent set. We prove some basic results about that notion and explore the following questions. Let L be a Lie subalgebra of Der(B); if every element of L is a locally nilpotent derivation then does it follow that L is a locally nilpotent set? Does it follow that L is a nilpotent Lie algebra?
We answer a question by Shestakov on the Jacobson radical in differential polynomial rings. We show that if R is a locally nilpotent ring with a derivation D then R[X;D] need not be Jacobson radical. We also show that J(R[X;D])\cap R is a nil ideal of R in the case where D is a locally nilpotent derivation and R is an algebra over an uncountable field.
It has been conjectured by Gene Freudenburg that for a polynomial ring, the triangular Lie algebra is the maximal Lie algebra which lies in the set of locally nilpotent derivations of the ring. Also it was conjectured that each other maximal Lie algebra which lies in the set of locally nilpotent derivations of the polynomial ring is conjugated to the triangular Lie algebra. In the present work we prove the first part of this conjecture and provide the counterexample to the second part. Also we show that the second part of the conjecture holds for the maximal Lie algebras among locally nilpoten…
In commutative algebra, if $δ$ is a locally nilpotent derivation of the polynomial algebra $K[x_1,\ldots,x_d]$ over a field $K$ of characteristic 0 and $w$ is a nonzero element of the kernel of $δ$, then $Δ=wδ$ is also a locally nilpotent derivation with the same kernel as $δ$. In this paper we prove that the locally nilpotent derivation $Δ$ of the free associative algebra $K\langle X,Y\rangle$ is determined up to a multiplicative constant by its kernel. We show also that the kernel of $Δ$ is a free associative algebra and give an explicit set of its free generators.
A structure of a left-symmetric algebra on the set of all derivations of a free algebra is introduced such that its commutator algebra becomes the usual Lie algebra of derivations. Left and right nilpotent elements of left-symmetric algebras of derivations are studied. Simple left-symmetric algebras of derivations and Novikov algebras of derivations are described. It is also proved that the positive part of the left-symmetric algebra of derivations of a free nonassociative symmetric $m$-ary algebra in one free variable is generated by one derivation and some right nilpotent derivations are des…
Let $K$ be an arbitrary field of characteristic zero and $A$ a commutative associative $ K$-algebra which is an integral domain. Denote by $R$ the fraction field of $A$ and by $W(A)=RDer_{\mathbb K}A,$ the Lie algebra of $\mathbb K$-derivations of $R$ obtained from $Der_{\mathbb K}A$ via multiplication by elements of $R.$ If $L\subseteq W(A)$ is a subalgebra of $W(A)$ denote by $rk_{R}L$ the dimension of the vector space $RL$ over the field $R$ and by $F=R^{L}$ the field of constants of $L$ in $R.$ Let $L$ be a nilpotent subalgebra $L\subseteq W(A)$ with $rk_{R}L\leq 3$. It is proven that the …
Let $δ$ be a derivation of a locally nilpotent ring $R$. Then the differential polynomial ring $R[X; δ]$ cannot be mapped onto a ring with a non-zero idempotent. This answers a recent question by Greenfeld, Smoktunowicz and Ziembowski.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $\mathcal A$ an $R$-algebra. An $R$-$\mathcal E$-derivation of $\mathcal A$ is an $R$-linear map of the form $\operatorname{I}-ϕ$ for some $R$-algebra endomorphism $ϕ$ of $\mathcal A$, where $\operatorname{I}$ denotes the identity map of $\mathcal A$. In this paper we discuss some open problems on whether or not the image of a locally finite $R$-derivation or $R$-$\mathcal E$-derivation of $\mathcal A$ is a Mathieu subspace [Z2, Z3] of $\mathcal A$, and whether or not a locally nilpotent $R$-derivation or $R$-$\mathcal E$-derivation of $\mathcal A$ maps every …
In the present paper we prove the existence outer derivations finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebras with nilradical of maximal rank and complementary subspace to nilardical of dimension less than rank of the nilradical.
Let K be a field and A be a commutative associative K-algebra which is an integral domain. The Lie algebra Der A of all K-derivations of A is an A-module in a natural way and if R is the quotient field of A, then RDer A is a vector space over R. It is proved that if L is a nilpotent subalgebra of RDer A of rank k over R (i.e. such that dim_{R}RL=k), then the derived length of L is at most k and L is finite dimensional over its field of constants. In case of solvable Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero their derived length does not exceed 2k. Nilpotent and solvable Lie algebras of …
Grunewald and O'Halloran conjectured in 1993 that every complex nilpotent Lie algebra is the degeneration of another, non isomorphic, Lie algebra. We prove the conjecture for the class of nilpotent Lie algebras admitting a semisimple derivation, remaining open for the class of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras. In dimension 7, where the first characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras appear, we prove the conjecture and we also exhibit explicit nontrivial degenerations to every 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra.
We study Lie algebra prederivations. A Lie algebra admitting a non-singular prederivation is nilpotent. We classify filiform Lie algebras admitting a non-singular prederivation but no non-singular derivation. We prove that any 4-step nilpotent Lie algebra admits a non-singular prederivation. The results can be applied to construct affine structures on Lie algebras.
We prove that every local derivation on a finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is a derivation. We also give examples of finite-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras $\mathcal{L}$ with $\dim\mathcal{L}\geq 3$ which admit local derivations which are not derivations.
Let $\mathbb K$ be a field of characteristic zero and $A$ an integral domain over $\mathbb K.$ The Lie algebra $\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ of all $\mathbb K$-derivations of $A$ carries very important information about the algebra $A.$ This Lie algebra is embedded into the Lie algebra $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A\subseteq \Der_{\mathbb K}R$, where $R={\rm Frac}(A)$ is the fraction field of $A.$ The rank $rk_{R}L$ of a subalgebra $L$ of $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ is defined as dimension $\dim_R RL.$ We prove that every locally nilpotent subalgebra $L$ of $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ with $rk_{R}L=n$ has a series of ideals…
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, $A = K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ the polynomial ring, $R = K(x_1,\dots,x_n)$ the field of rational functions, and let $W_n(K) = \Der_{K}A$ be the Lie algebra of all $K$-derivations on $A$. If $D \in W_n(K),$ $D\not =0$ is linear (i.e. of the form $D = \sum_{i,j=1}^n a_{ij}x_j \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}$) we give a description of the centralizer of $D$ in $W_n(K)$ and point out an algorithm for finding generators of $C_{W_n(K)}(D)$ as a module over the ring of constants in case when $D$ is the basic Weitzenboeck derivation. In more gener…
In this paper we investigate the derivations of filiform Leibniz algebras. Recall that the set of filiform Leibniz algebras of fixed dimension is decomposed into three non-intersected families. We found sufficient conditions under which filiform Leibniz algebras of the first family are characteristically nilpotent. Moreover, for the first family we classify non-characteristically nilpotent algebras by means of Catalan numbers. In addition, for the rest two families of filiform Leibniz algebras we describe non-characteristically nilpotent algebras, i.e., those filiform Leibniz algebras which li…
We show that the Hochschild cohomology of a monomial algebra over a field of characteristic zero vanishes from degree two if the first Hochschild cohomology is semisimple as a Lie algebra. We also prove that first Hochschild cohomology of a radical square zero algebra is reductive as a Lie algebra. In the case of the multiple loops quiver, we obtain the Lie algebra of square matrices of size equal to the number of loops.
Let $\mathbb F$ be a field $\mathbb F $ of characteristic zero. Let $W_{n}(\mathbb F)$ be the Lie algebra of all $\mathbb F$-derivations with the Lie bracket $[D_1, D_2]:=D_1D_2-D_2D_1$ on the polynomial ring $\mathbb F [x_1, \ldots , x_n]$. The problem of classifying finite dimensional subalgebras of $W_{n}(\mathbb F)$ was solved if $ n\leq 2$ and $\mathbb F=\mathbb C$ or $\mathbb F=\mathbb R.$ We prove that this problem is wild if $n\geq 4$, which means that it contains the classical unsolved problem of classifying matrix pairs up to similarity. The structure of finite dimensional subalgebra…
Let $A$ be an algebra over a field $K$ of characteristic zero, let $\d_1, >..., \d_s\in \Der_K(A)$ be {\em commuting locally nilpotent} $K$-derivations such that $\d_i(x_j)=\d_{ij}$, the Kronecker delta, for some elements $x_1,..., x_s\in A$. A set of algebra generators for the algebra $A^\d:= \cap_{i=1}^s\ker (\d_i)$ is found {\em explicitly} and a set of {\em defining relations} for the algebra $A^\d$ is described. Similarly, given a set $\s_1, ..., \s_s\in \Aut_K(A)$ of {\em commuting} $K$-automorphisms of the algebra $A$ such that the maps $\s_i-{\rm id_A}$ are {\em locally nilpotent} and …
Let $K$ be a field of characteristic zero, $\mathcal A$ a $K$-algebra and $δ$ a $K$-derivation of $\mathcal A$ or $K$-$\mathcal E$-derivation of $\mathcal A$ (i.e., $δ=\operatorname{Id}_A-ϕ$ for some $K$-algebra endomorphism $ϕ$ of $\mathcal A$). Motivated by the Idempotent conjecture proposed in [Z4], we first show that for every idempotent $e$ lying in both the kernel ${\mathcal A}^δ$ and the image $\operatorname{Im}δ\!:=δ({\mathcal A})$ of $δ$, the principal ideal $(e)\subseteq \operatorname{Im} δ$ if $δ$ is a locally finite $K$-derivation or a locally nilpotent $K$-$\mathcal E$-derivation …
We consider finite-dimensional complex Lie algebras admitting a periodic derivation, i.e., a nonsingular derivation which has finite multiplicative order. We show that such Lie algebras are at most two-step nilpotent and give several characterizations, such as the existence of gradings by sixth roots of unity, or the existence of a nonsingular derivation whose inverse is again a derivation. We also obtain results on the existence of periodic prederivations. In this context we study a generalization of Engel-4-Lie algebras.
The present paper is devoted to local and 2-local derivations and automorphism of complex finite-dimensional simple Leibniz algebras. We prove that all local derivations and 2-local derivations on a finite-dimensional complex simple Leibniz algebra are automatically derivations. We show that nilpotent Leibniz algebras as a rule admit local derivations and 2-local derivations which are not derivations. Further we consider automorphisms of simple Leibniz algebras. We prove that every 2-local automorphism on a complex finite-dimensional simple Leibniz algebra is an automorphism and show that nilp…
We study solvable Lie algebras in prime characteristic $p$ that admit non-singular derivations. We show that Jacobson's Theorem remains true if the quotients of the derived series have dimension less than~$p$. We also study the structure of Lie algebras with non-singular derivations in which the derived subalgebra is abelian and has codimension~one. The paper presents some new examples of solvable, but not nilpotent, Lie algebras of derived length~3 with non-singular derivations.
We describe derivations and automorphisms of infinite tensor products of matrix algebras. Using this description we show that for a countable--dimensional locally matrix algebra $A$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$ the dimension of the Lie algebra of outer derivations of $A$ and the order of the group of outer automorphisms of $A$ are both equal to $|\mathbb{F}|^{\aleph_0},$ where $|\mathbb{F}|$ is the cardinality of the field $\mathbb{F}.$
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be the underlying base field of characteristic $p>3 $ and denote by $\mathcal{W}$ and $\mathcal{S}$ the even parts of the finite-dimensional generalized Witt Lie superalgebra $W$ and the special Lie superalgebra $S,$ respectively. We first give the generator sets of the Lie algebras $\mathcal{W}$ and $\mathcal{S}.$ Using certain properties of the canonical tori of $\mathcal{W}$ and $\mathcal{S},$ we then determine the derivation algebra of $\mathcal{W}$ and the derivation space of $\mathcal{S} $ to $\mathcal{W},$ where $\mathcal{W}$ is viewed as $\mathcal{S} $-module by means …
We construct Artin algebras with vanishing first Hochschild Cohomology but a loop in their ordinary quiver. Some authors guessed earlier that such examples could not exist.
In this paper, we focus on derivations and centroids of four dimensional associative algebras. Using an existing classification result of low dimensional associative algebras, we describe the derivations and centroids of four dimensional associative algebras. We also identify algebra(s) that belong to the characteristically nilpotent class among the algebras of four dimensional associative algebras.
We consider the structure of groups and algebras that can be represented as automorphisms or derivations of distributive products -- which includes nonassociative rings, modules, forms, and commutation of groups and nonassociative loops. In many ways this is too broad to be possible, for instance even naive structure, such as inner automorphisms and derivations, are undefined for general bilinear maps. The appeal for working in this generality is broad applicability. We introduce fundamental structures and prove several results akin to ones in ring theory, including theorems of Morita and of S…
