Nonfiliform characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras

We construct large families of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras by considering deformations of the Lie algebra g_{m,m-1}^{4} of type Q_{n},and which arises as a central extension fo the filiform Lie algebra L_{n}. By studying the graded cohomology spaces we obtain that the sill algebras are isomorphic to the nilradicals of solvable, complete Lie algebra laws. For extremal cocycles these laws are also rigid. Considering supplementary cocycles we construcy, for dimensions n>8, nonfiliform characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras and show that for certain deformations these are compatible with central extensions.

In this paper we investigate the derivations of filiform Leibniz algebras. Recall that the set of filiform Leibniz algebras of fixed dimension is decomposed into three non-intersected families. On maximal solvable extensions of a pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebra

In this paper we introduce the notion of pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebra and under a condition we prove that a complex maximal extension of a finite-dimensional pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebra is isomorphic to a semidirect sum of the nilradical and its maximal torus. We also prove that such solvable Lie algebras are complete and we specify a subclass of the maximal solvable extensions of pure non-characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras that have trivial cohomology group. Some comparisons with the results obtained earlier are given.

On the product by generators of characteristically nilpotent Lie S-algebras

We introduce the product by generators of complex nilpotent Lie algebras, which is a commutative product obtained from a central extension of the direct sum of Lie algebras. We show that the product preserves also the characteristic nilpotence provided that the multiplied algebras are $S$-algebras. In particular, this shows the existence of nonsplit characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras $\frak{h}$ such that the quotient $\frac{\dim \frak{h}-\dim Z(\frak{h})}{\dim Z(\frak{h})} $ is as small as wanted.

Characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras and symplectic structures

We study symplectic structures on characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras (CNLAs) by computing the cohomology space $H^2(\Lg,k)$ for certain Lie algebras $\Lg$. Among these Lie algebras are filiform CNLAs of dimension $n\le 14$. It turns out that there are many examples of CNLAs which admit a symplectic structure. A generalization of a sympletic structure is an affine structure on a Lie algebra.

The Grunewald-O'Halloran conjecture for nilpotent Lie algebras of rank >= 1

Grunewald and O'Halloran conjectured in 1993 that every complex nilpotent Lie algebra is the degeneration of another, non isomorphic, Lie algebra. We prove the conjecture for the class of nilpotent Lie algebras admitting a semisimple derivation, remaining open for the class of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras. In dimension 7, where the first characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras appear, we prove the conjecture and we also exhibit explicit nontrivial degenerations to every 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra.

Pre-derivations and description of non-strongly nilpotent filiform Leibniz algebras

In this paper we investigate pre-derivations of filiform Leibniz algebras. Recall that the set of filiform Leibniz algebras of fixed dimension can be decomposed into three non-intersected families. We describe the pre-derivation of filiform Leibniz algebras for the first and second families. We found sufficient conditions under which filiform Leibniz algebras are strongly nilpotent. Moreover, for the first and second families, we give the description of characteristically nilpotent algebras which are non-strongly nilpotent.

Degenerations to filiform Lie algebras of dimension 9

For most complex 9-dimensional filiform Lie algebra we find another non isomorphic Lie algebra that degenerates to it. Since this is already known for nilpotent Lie algebras of rank $\geq 1$, only the characteristically nilpotent ones should be considered.

Almost inner derivations of Lie algebras II

We continue the algebraic study of almost inner derivations of Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero and determine these derivations for free nilpotent Lie algebras, for almost abelian Lie algebras, for Lie algebras whose solvable radical is abelian and for several classes of filiform nilpotent Lie algebras. On k-abelian, p-filiform Lie algebras

We classify the (n-5)-filiform Lie algebras which have the additional property of a non-abelian derived subalgebra. We show that this property is strongly related with the structure of the Lie algebra of derivations; explicitely we show that if a (n-5)-filiform algebra is characteristically nilpotent, then it must be 2-abelian. We also give applications of k-abelian Lie algebras to the construction of solvable rigis algebras, as well as to the theory of nilalgebras of parabolic subalgebras in the example of the exceptional simple model E_{6}.
