This article represents the second installment, in which we calculate the generating functional of correlators of collinear twist-$2$ operators that are components of unbalanced superfields-i.e., superfields possessing an unequal number of dotted and undotted indices in their spinor representation-in $\mathcal{N} = 1$ SUSY SU($N$) YM theory. The analysis is performed in both Minkowskian and Euclidean space-time, in the conformal limit and its renormalization-group (RG) improved form to the leading and next-to-leading order of the large-$N$ expansion. The corresponding generating functional for correlators of balanced superfields was addressed in the first installment of this work. Finally, we compare our asymptotic RG-improved generating functional at the next-to-leading large-$N$ order with the corresponding nonperturbative object that originates from the glueball/gluinoball one-loop effective action, to which it should be asymptotic at short distances due to asymptotic freedom. It is noteworthy that we discover both objects share the structure of the logarithm of a functional superdeterminant. Consequently, our large-$N$ calculation imposes stringent ultraviolet asymptotic constraints on the nonperturbative solution of large-$N$ $\mathcal{N} = 1$ SUSY YM theory, which could serve as a crucial guide in the quest for such a solution.
We calculate finite temperature effects on a correlation function in the two dimensional supersymmetric nonlinear O(3) sigma model. The correlation function violates chiral symmetry and at zero temperature it has been shown to be a constant, which gives rise to a double-valued condensate. Within the bilinear approximation we find an exact result in a one-instanton background at finite temperature. In contrast to the result at zero temperature we find that the correlation function decays exponentially at large distances.
A conjecture is made that the weight space for 4D, $\cal N$-extended supersymmetrical representations is embedded within the permutahedra associated with permutation groups ${\mathbb{S}}{}_{d}$. Adinkras and Coxeter Groups associated with minimal representations of 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supersymmetry provide evidence supporting this conjecture. It is shown the appearance of the mathematics of 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 minimal off-shell supersymmetry representations is equivalent to solving a four color problem on the truncated octahedron. This observation suggest an entirely new way to approach the off-shel…
We discuss a deformation of superspace based on a hermitian twist. The twist implies a $\star$-product that is noncommutative, hermitian and finite when expanded in power series of the deformation parameter. The Leibniz rule for the twisted SUSY transformations is deformed. A minimal deformation of the Wess-Zumino action is proposed and its renormalizability properties are discussed. There is no tadpole contribution, but the two-point function diverges. We speculate that the deformed Leibniz rule, or more generally the twisted symmetry, interferes with renormalizability properties of the model…
It is shown that $D=4$ $N=1$ SUSY Yang-Mills theory with an appropriate supermultiplet of matter can be twisted on compact Kähler manifold. The conditions of cancellation of anomalies of BRST charge are found. The twisted theory has an appropriate BRST charge. We find a non-trivial set of physical operators defined as classes of the cohomology of this BRST \op . We prove that the physical correlators are independent on external Kähler metric up to a power of a ratio of two Ray-Singer torsions for the Dolbeault cohomology complex on a Kähler manifold. The correlators of local physical \op s tur…
We propose N=4 twisted superspace formalism in four dimensions by introducing Dirac-Kahler twist. In addition to the BRST charge as a scalar counter part of twisted supercharge we find vector and tensor twisted supercharges. By introducing twisted chiral superfield we explicitly construct off-shell twisted N=4 SUSY invariant action. We can propose variety of supergauge invariant actions by introducing twisted vector superfield. We may, however, need to find further constraints to identify twisted N=4 super Yang-Mills action. We propose a superconnection formalism of twisted superspace where co…
We compute the generic correlator with L untwisted operators and N (excited) twist fields for branes at angles on T^2 and show that it is given by a generalization of the Wick theorem. We give also the recipe to compute efficiently the generic OPE between an untwisted operator and an excited twisted state.
We construct a pseudoclassical particle model associated to the twisted N=2 SUSY algebra in four dimensions. The particle model has four kappa symmetries. Three of them can be used to reduce the model to the vector supersymmetry particle case. The quantization of the model gives rise to two copies of the 4d Dirac equation. The kappa symmetries result to be associated to 4 TSUSY invariant bilinear odd operators who are null operators when a particular condition is satisfied. These operators are in correspondence one to one with analogous operators existing in the case of the N=2 SUSY algebra, m…
We compute correlators of chiral operators in half-twisted (0,2) supersymmetric gauged linear sigma models. Our results give simple algebraic formulas for a (0,2) generalization of genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of compact toric varieties. We derive compact expressions for deformed quantum cohomology relations and apply our general method to several examples.
We compute the correlation function of three twist-2 operators in N = 4 SYM in the leading BFKL approximation at any N_c. In this limit, the result is applicable to other gauge theories, including QCD.
Twist fields were introduced a few decades ago as a quantum counterpart to classical kink configurations and disorder variables in low dimensional field theories. In recent years they received a new incarnation within the framework of geometric entropy and strong coupling limit of four-dimensional scattering amplitudes. In this paper, we study their two-point correlation functions in a free massless scalar theory, namely, twist--twist and twist--anti-twist correlators. In spite of the simplicity of the model in question, the properties of the latter are far from being trivial. The problem is r…
We generalize local operators of the leading twist-2 of N=4 SYM theory to the case of complex Lorentz spin j using principal series representation of sl(2,R). We give the direct computation of correlation function of two such non-local operators in the BFKL regime when j -> 1. The correlator appears to have the expected conformal coordinate dependence governed by the anomalous dimension of twist-2 operator in NLO BFKL approximation predicted by Kotikov and Lipatov.
We compute three- and four-point correlation functions containing excited bosonic twist fields. Our results can be used to determine properties, such as lifetimes and production rates, of massive string excitations localised at D-brane intersections, which could be signatures of a low string scale even if the usual string resonances are inaccessible to the LHC.
We present calculation of the correlation function of three twist-2 operators in the BFKL limit. The calculation is performed in N = 4 SYM but the result is valid in other gauge theories such as QCD. The obtained leading order structure constant is exact for any number of colors.
We calculate two different types of 3-point correlators involving twist-2 operators in the leading weak coupling approximation and all orders in N_c in N=4 SYM theory. Each of three operators in the first correlator can be any component of twist-2 supermultiplet, though the explicit calculation was done for a particular component which is an SU(4) singlet. It is calculated in the leading, Born approximation for arbitrary spins j_1,j_2,j_3. The result significantly simplifies when at least one of the spins is large or equal to zero and the coordinates are restricted to the 2d plane spanned by t…
We consider general 2D orbifold CFTs of the form M^N/S_N, with M a target space manifold and S_N the symmetric group, and generalize the Lunin-Mathur covering space technique in two ways. First, we consider excitations of twist operators by modes of fields that are not twisted by that operator, and show how to account for these excitations when computing correlation functions in the covering space. Second, we consider non-twist sector operators and show how to include the effects of these insertions in the covering space. We work two examples, one using a simple bosonic CFT, and one using the …
We compute, to the lowest perturbative order in $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theory, $n$-point correlators in the coordinate and momentum representation of the gauge-invariant twist-$2$ operators with maximal spin along the $p_+$ direction, both in Minkowskian and -- by analytic continuation -- Euclidean space-time. We also construct the corresponding generating functionals. Remarkably, they have the structure of the logarithm of a functional determinant of the identity plus a term involving the effective propagators that act on the appropriate source fields.
We calculate partition function and correlation functions in A-twisted 2d $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ theories and topologically twisted 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories containing adjoint chiral multiplet with particular choices of $R$-charges and the magnetic fluxes for flavor symmetries. According to Gauge-Bethe correspondence, they correspond to Heisenberg XXX and XXZ spin chain models. We identify the partition function as the inverse of the norm of the Bethe eigenstates. Correlation functions are identified as the coefficients of the expectation value of Baxter $Q$-operators. In addition, we consider…
Following on from previous work we derive the non-linear differential equations of more general correlators of U(1) twist fields in two-dimensional massive Dirac theory. Using the conserved charges of the double copy model equations parametrising the correlators of twist fields with arbitrary twist parameter are found. This method also gives a parametrisation of the correlation functions of general, fermionic, descendent twist fields. The equations parametrising correlators of primary twist fields are compared to those of the literature and evidence is presented to confirm that these equations…
In a recent paper we have proposed the possibility that the lightest massive string states could be identified with open strings living at intersections of D-branes forming small angles. In this note, we reconsider the relevant twist-field correlation functions and perform the analysis of the sub-dominant physical poles in the various channels. Our derivation is new in that it is based on the algebraic procedure for the construction of open string models starting from their closed-string `parents' rather than on the stress-tensor method. We also indicate possible generalizations and diverse ap…
We investigate some aspects of the relationship between matrix string theory and light-cone string field theory by analysing the correspondence between the two-loop thermal partition function of DLCQ strings in flat space and the integrated two-point correlator of twist fields in a symmetric product orbifold conformal field theory at one-loop order. This is carried out by deriving combinatorial expressions for generic twist field correlation functions in permutation orbifolds using the covering surface method, by deriving the one-loop modification of the twist field interaction vertex, and by …
We compute the Green functions and correlator functions for N twist fields for branes at angles on T^2 and we show that there are N-2 different configurations labeled by an integer M which is roughly associated with the number of obtuse angles of the configuration. In order to perform this computation we use a SL(2,R) invariant formulation and geometric constraints instead of Pochammer contours. In particular the M=1 or M=N-1 amplitude can be expressed without using transcendental functions. We determine the amplitudes normalization from N -> N-1 reduction without using the factorization into …
We present a conjecture for the normalisation of the twist two conformal partial waves in a double OPE limit of the four-point function of stress tensor multiplets in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory up to three loops. This contains information about the structure constants in the OPE. Like the twist two anomalous dimensions our result is expressed as a linear combination of harmonic sums whose argument is the spin of the exchanged operators. To arrive at the result we derive asymptotic expansions for the twist two part of two unknown three-loop integrals using the method of expansion by regions,…
In this paper, using a Hopf-algebraic method, we construct deformed Poincaré SUSY algebra in terms of twisted (Hopf) algebra. By adapting this twist deformed super-Poincaré algrebra as our fundamental symmetry, we can see the consistency between the algebra and non(anti)commutative relation among (super)coordinates and interpret that symmetry of non(anti)commutative QFT is in fact twisted one. The key point is validity of our new twist element that guarantees non(anti)commutativity of space. It is checked in this paper for N=1 case. We also comment on the possibility of noncommutative central …
We compute correlators of chiral operators in (0,2) supersymmetric Landau-Ginzburg theories. The class of theories and the correlators we study are relevant for extending and testing mirror symmetry away from the (2,2) locus. More generally, these methods provide alpha'-exact results about certain superpotential couplings in compactifications of the heterotic string.
Conformal field theory (CFT) dispersion relations reconstruct correlators in terms of their double discontinuity. When applied to the crossing equation, such dispersive transforms lead to sum rules that suppress the double-twist sector of the spectrum and enjoy positivity properties at large twist. In this paper, we construct dispersive CFT functionals for correlators of unequal scalar operators in position- and Mellin-space. We then evaluate these functionals in the Regge limit to construct mixed correlator holographic CFT functionals which probe scalar particle scattering in Anti-de Sitter s…
We exploit null vectors of the fractional Virasoro algebra of the symmetric product orbifold to compute correlation functions of twist fields in the large $N$ limit. This yields a new method to derive correlation functions in these orbifold CFTs that is purely based on the symmetry algebra. We explore various generalisations, such as subleading (torus) contributions or correlation functions of other fields than the bare twist fields. We comment on the consequences of our computation for the $\text{AdS}_3/\text{CFT}_2$ correspondence.
We consider the simplest possible setting of non abelian twist fields which corresponds to $SU(2)$ monodromies. We first review the theory of hypergeometric function and of the solutions of the most general Fuchsian second order equation with three singularities. Then we solve the problem of writing the general solution with prescribed $U(2)$ monodromies. We use this result to compute the classical string solution corresponding to three $D2$ branes in $R^4$. Despite the fact the configuration is supersymmetric the classical string solution is not holomorphic. Using the equation of motion and n…
We reinterpret the Scherk-Schwarz (SS) boundary condition for SU(2)_R in a compactified five-dimensional (5D) Poincare supergravity in terms of the twisted SU(2)_U gauge fixing in 5D conformal supergravity. In such translation, only the compensator hypermultiplet is relevant to the SS twist, and various properties of the SS mechanism can be easily understood. Especially, we show the correspondence between the SS twist and constant superpotentials within our framework.
We study the OPE of correlation functions of local operators in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. The considered operators have an explicit spacetime dependence that is defined by twisting the translation generators with certain R-symmetry generators. We restrict to operators that carry a small number of excitations above the twisted BMN vacuum. The OPE limit of the four-point correlator is dominated by internal states with few magnons on top of the vacuum. The twisting directly couples all spacetime dependence of the correlator to these magnons. We analyze the OPE in detail, and single out …
We find an asymptotic solution for two- and three-point correlators of local gauge-invariant operators, in a lower-spin sector of massless large-$N$ $QCD$, in terms of glueball and meson propagators, by means of a new purely field-theoretical technique that we call the asymptotically-free bootstrap. The asymptotically-free bootstrap exploits the lowest-order conformal invariance of connected correlators of gauge invariant composite operators in perturbation theory, the renormalization-group improvement, and a recently-proved asymptotic structure theorem for glueball and meson propagators, that…
We study conformal twist field four-point functions on a $\mathbb Z_N$ orbifold. We examine in detail the case $N=3$ and analyze theories obtained by replicated $N$-times a minimal model with central charge $c<1$. A fastly convergent expansion of the twist field correlation function in terms of sphere conformal blocks with central charge $Nc$ is obtained by exploiting covering map techniques. We discuss extensive applications of the formalism to the entanglement of two disjoint intervals in CFT, in particular we propose a conformal block expansion for the partially transposed reduced density m…
Near lightcone correlators are dominated by operators with the lowest twist. We consider the contributions of such leading lowest twist multi-stress tensor operators to a heavy-heavy-light-light correlator in a CFT of any even dimensionality with a large central charge. An infinite number of such operators contribute, but their sum is described by a simple ansatz. We show that the coefficients in this ansatz can be determined recursively, thereby providing an operational procedure to compute them. This is achieved by bootstrapping the corresponding near lightcone correlator: conformal data for…
$\mathcal{N}=1$ SUSY Yang-Mills theory is an appealing theoretical framework that has been studied in the literature using different methods, including standard lattice simulations. Among these, the volume-reduced twisted Eguchi-Kawai model, endowed with one adjoint Majorana fermion, could play an important role in studying its large-$N$ limit via the Curci-Veneziano prescription. In this talk, we present our results on the analysis of the scale of the theory, performed via different methods based on purely gluonic observables as well as (quenched) fundamental mesons in the chiral limit. These…
Heavy-heavy-light-light (HHLL) correlators of pairwise identical scalars in CFTs with a large central charge in any number of dimensions admit a double scaling limit where the ratio of the heavy conformal dimension to the central charge becomes large as the separation between the light operators becomes null. In this limit the stress tensor sector of a generic HHLL correlator receives contributions from the multi stress tensor operators with any number of stress tensors, as long as their twist is not increased by index contractions. We show how one can compute this leading twist stress tensor …
We work out the interplay between lowest-order perturbative computations in the 't Hooft coupling, $g^2=g^2_{YM} N$, operator mixing, renormalization-group (RG) improved ultraviolet (UV) asymptotics of leading-order (LO) nonplanar/planar contributions to $2$-point correlators, and nonperturbative large-$N$ expansion of perturbatively massless QCD-like theories. As concrete examples, we compute to the lowest perturbative order in $SU(N)$ YM theory the ratios, $r_i$, of LO-nonplanar to planar contributions to the $2$-point correlators in the orthogonal basis in the coordinate representation of t…
We perform a numerical bootstrap study of the mixed correlator system containing the half-BPS operators of dimension two and three in $\mathcal N = 4$ Super Yang-Mills. This setup improves on previous works in the literature that only considered single correlators of one or the other operator. We obtain upper bounds on the leading twist in a given representation of the R-symmetry by imposing gaps on the twist of all operators rather than the dimension of a single one. As a result we find a tension between the large $N$ supergravity predictions and the numerical finite $N$ results already at $N…
We construct a new representation for two- and three-point correlators of operators from sl(2) sector of planar N = 4 SYM. The spin and twist of operators are arbitrary. We start with the correlation function of light-ray operators and carry out a projection to particular local operators using the method of Separated Variables. With the same calculation we obtain polynomials which are dual to wave functions of sl(2,R) spin-chain.
We consider the ratio of the correlation function of n+1 local operators over the correlator of the first n of these operators in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, and consider the limit where the first n operators become pairwise null separated. By studying the problem in twistor space, we prove that this is equivalent to the correlator of a n-cusp null polygonal Wilson loop with the remaining operator in general position, normalized by the expectation value of the Wilson loop itself, as recently conjectured by Alday, Buchbinder and Tseytlin. Twistor methods also provide a BCFW-like recursi…
We discuss the appearance of the GL(1) charged physical operators in the twistor string theory. These operators are shown to be BRST-invariant and non-trivial, and some of their correlators and conformal beta-functions are computed. Remarkably, the non-conservation of the GL(1)-charge in interactions involving these operators is related to the anomalous term in the Kac-Moody current algebra. While these operators play no role in the maximum helicity violating (MHV) amplitudes of Yang-Mills theory, they are shown to contribute non-trivially to non-MHV correlators in the worldsheet instanton bac…
We analyze the low energy spectrum of bound states of the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang-Mills Theory (SYM). This work continues the investigation of the non-perturbative properties of SYM by Monte Carlo simulations in the Wilson discretization with dynamical gluinos. The dynamics of the gluinos is included by the Two-Step Multi-Bosonic Algorithm (TSMB) for dynamical fermions. A new set of configurations has been generated on a 16^3x32 lattice at beta=2.3 and kappa=0.194. The analysis also includes sets of configurations previously generated on a smaller (12^3x24) lattice at kappa=0.1925, 0.194 and 0.195…
Feynman's time-slicing construction approximates the path integral by a product, determined by a partition of a finite time interval, of approximate propagators. This paper formulates general conditions to impose on a short-time approximation to the propagator in a general class of imaginary-time quantum mechanics on a Riemannian manifold which ensure these products converge. The limit defines a path integral which agrees pointwise with the heat kernel for a generalized Laplacian. The result is a rigorous construction of the propagator for supersymmetric quantum mechanics, with potential, as a…
We study correlation functions of single-cycle chiral operators in the symmetric product orbifold of N supersymmetric four-tori. Correlators of twist operators are evaluated on covering surfaces, generally of different genera, where fields are single-valued. We compute some simple four-point functions and study how the sum over inequivalent branched covering maps splits under OPEs. We then discuss extremal n-point correlators, i.e. correlators of n-1 chiral and one anti-chiral operators. They obey simple recursion relations involving numbers obtained from counting branched covering maps with p…
We consider $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal quiver gauge theories in four dimensions and evaluate the chiral/anti-chiral correlators of single-trace operators. We show that it is convenient to form particular twisted and untwisted combinations of these operators suggested by the dual holographic description of the theory. The various twisted sectors are orthogonal and the correlators in each sector have always the same structure, as we show at the lowest orders in perturbation theory with Feynman diagrams. Using localization we then map the computation to a matrix model. In this way we are able…
We study the quantum stability of Type IIB orbifold and orientifold string models in various dimensions, including Melvin backgrounds, where supersymmetry (SUSY) is broken {\it à la} Scherk-Schwarz (SS) by twisting periodicity conditions along a circle of radius R. In particular, we compute the R-dependence of the one-loop induced vacuum energy density $ρ(R)$, or cosmological constant. For SS twists different from Z2 we always find, for both orbifolds and orientifolds, a monotonic $ρ(R)<0$, eventually driving the system to a tachyonic instability. For Z2 twists, orientifold models can have a d…
We employ the free field realisation of the $\mathfrak{psu}(1,1|2)_1$ world-sheet theory to constrain the correlators of string theory on ${\rm AdS}_3\times {\rm S}^3\times \mathbb{T}^4$ with unit NS-NS flux. In particular, we directly obtain the unusual delta function localisation of these correlators onto branched covers of the boundary ${\rm S}^2$ by the (genus zero) world-sheet -- this is the key property which makes the equivalence to the dual symmetric orbifold manifest. In our approach, this feature follows from a remarkable `incidence relation' obeyed by the correlators, which is remin…
We analyze the properly normalized three-point correlator of two protected scalar operators and one higher spin twist-two operator in N=4 super Yang-Mills, in the limit of large spin j. The relevant structure constant can be extracted from the OPE of the four-point correlator of protected scalar operators. We show that crossing symmetry of the four point correlator plus a judicious guess for the perturbative structure of the three-point correlator, allow to make a prediction for the structure constant at all loops in perturbation theory, up to terms that remain finite as the spin becomes large…
We continue the study of n-point correlation functions of half-BPS protected operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, in the limit where the positions of the adjacent operators become light-like separated. We compute the l-loop corrections by making l Lagrangian insertions. We argue that there exists a simple relation between the (n+l)-point tree-level correlator with l Lagrangian insertions and the integrand of the n-particle l-loop MHV scattering amplitude, as obtained by the recent momentum twistor construction of Arkani-Hamed et al. We present several examples of this new duality, at one …
A particular analytic continuation of classical string solutions having a single AdS_5 spin is considered. These solutions describe strings tunnelling from the boundary to the boundary of AdS_5. We use the Legendre transform of the dimensionally regularised action of these solutions to evaluate the 2-point functions of the dual operators, holographically. Subsequently, we evaluate the structure coefficient of correlators involving two operators with spin S and a BPS state, at strong coupling. Our expressions are valid for any value of the AdS spin S/\sqrtλ and can be applied both at the case o…
We study the extremal correlation functions of (twisted) chiral ring operators via superlocalization in $\mathcal{N}=(2, 2)$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) with central charge $c\geq 3$, especially for SCFTs with Calabi-Yau geometric phases. We extend the method in arXiv:1602.05971 with mild modifications, so that it is applicable to disentangle operators mixing on $S^2$ in nilpotent (twisted) chiral rings of $2d$ SCFTs. With the extended algorithm and technique of localization, we compute exactly the extremal correlators in $2d$ $\mathcal{N}=(2, 2)$ (twisted) chiral rings as non-holomo…
We analytically study the Fermi-gas formulation of sphere correlation functions of the Coulomb branch operators for 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ ADHM theory with a gauge group $U(N)$, an adjoint hypermultiplet and $l$ hypermultiplets which can describe a stack of $N$ M2-branes at $A_{l-1}$ singularities. We find that the leading coefficients of the perturbative grand canonical correlation functions are invariant under a hidden triality symmetry conjectured from the twisted M-theory. The triality symmetry also helps us to fix the next-to-leading corrections analytically.
We derive the connected tree-level part of 4-point holographic correlators in AdS$_3\times S^3\times \mathcal{M}$ (where ${\cal M}$ is $T^4$ or $K3$) involving two multi-trace and two single-trace operators. These connected correlators are obtained by studying a heavy-heavy-light-light correlation function in the formal limit where the heavy operators become light. These results provide a window into higher-point holographic correlators of single-particle operators. We find that the correlators involving multi-trace operators are compactly written in terms of Bloch-Wigner-Ramakrishnan function…
