We prove a Poisson process approximation result for stabilizing functionals of a determinantal point process. Our results use concrete couplings of determinantal processes with different Palm measures and exploit their association properties. Second, we focus on the Ginibre process and show in the asymptotic scenario of an increasing window size that the process of points with a large nearest neighbor distance converges after a suitable scaling to a Poisson point process. As a corollary, we obtain the scaling of the maximum nearest neighbor distance in the Ginibre process, which turns out to be different from its analogue for independent points.
We consider a collection of Euclidean random balls in ${\Bbb R}^d$ generated by a determinantal point process inducing interaction into the balls. We study this model at a macros\-copic level obtained by a zooming-out and three different regimes --Gaussian, Poissonian and stable-- are exhibited as in the Poissonian model without interaction. This shows that the macroscopic behaviour erases the interactions induced by the determinantal point process.
We prove the Bernoulli property for determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{R}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels. For the determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{Z}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels, the Bernoulli property was proved by Lyons and Steif and Shirai and Takahashi. As its continuum version, we prove an isomorphism between the translation-invariant determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{R}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels and homogeneous Poisson point processes. For this purpose, we also prove the Bernoulli property for the tree representations of the dete…
Sub-Poissonian estimates for exponential moments of additive functionals over pairs of particles with respect to determinantal and symplectic Pfaffian point processes governed by entire functions
We study the analogue of Poisson ensembles of Markov loops ('loop soups') in the setting of one-dimensional diffusions. We give a detailed description of the corresponding intensity measure. The properties of this measure on loops lead us to an extension of Vervaat's bridge-to-excursion transformation that relates the bridges conditioned by their minimum and the excursions of all the diffusion we consider and not just the Brownian motion. Further we describe the Poisson point process of loops, their occupation fields and explain how to sample these Poisson ensembles of loops using two-dimensio…
Herein, we address the expectations of frame potentials of three types of determinantal point processes(DPPs) on the d-dimensional unit sphere: (i) spherical ensembles on the 2-dimensional unit sphere; (ii) harmonic ensembles on the d-dimensional unit sphere and (iii) jittered sampling point processes on the d-dimensional unit sphere. The random point configurations generated by such DPPs converge more rapidly towards finite unit norm tight frames(FUNTFs) than the Poisson point processes on the unit sphere.
We establish precise bounds on cumulants for a rather general class of non-linear geometric functionals satisfying the stabilization property under a simple, stationary (marked) point process admitting fast decay of its correlation functions and thereby conclude a Berry-Esseen bound, a concentration inequality, a moderate deviation principle and a Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund-type strong law of large numbers. The result is applied to the germ-grain model as well as to random sequential absorption for $α$-determinantal point processes having fast decaying kernels and certain Gibbsian point processes. …
We study linear statistics of a class of determinantal processes which interpolate between Poisson and GUE/Ginibre statistics in dimension 1 or 2. These processes are obtained by performing an independent Bernoulli percolation on the particle configuration of of a log-gas confined in a general potential. We show that, depending on the expected number of deleted particles, there is a universal transition for mesoscopic statistics. Namely, at small scales, the point process still behaves according to random matrix theory, while, at large scales, it needs to be renormalized because the variance o…
We study mesoscopic linear statistics for a class of determinantal point processes which interpolates between Poisson and Gaussian Unitary Ensemble statistics. These processes are obtained by modifying the spectrum of the correlation kernel of the GUE eigenvalue process. An example of such a system comes from considering the distribution of non-colliding Brownian motions in a cylindrical geometry, or a grand canonical ensemble of free fermions in a quadratic well at positive temperature. When the scale of the modification of the spectrum of the GUE kernel, related to the size of the cylinder o…
We show that the symplectic and orthogonal character analogues of Okounkov's Schur measure (on integer partitions) are determinantal, with explicit correlation kernels. We apply this to prove certain Borodin-Okounkov-Gessel-type results concerning Toeplitz+Hankel and Fredholm determinants; a Szegő-type limit theorem; an edge Baik-Deift-Johansson-type asymptotical result for certain symplectic and orthogonal analogues of the poissonized Plancherel measure; and a similar result for actual poissonized Plancherel measures supported on "almost symmetric" partitions.
The main result of this paper states that if $(N, Π)$ is a pair of independent point processes on a common ground space with $N$ Poisson and $Π$ determinantal induced by a locally trace class (not necessarily self-adjoint) correlation kernel, then their independent superposition $N + Π$ determines uniquely the distributions of $N$ and $Π$.
We consider the Gaussian approximation for functionals of a Poisson process that are expressible as sums of region-stabilizing (determined by the points of the process within some specified regions) score functions and provide a bound on the rate of convergence in the Wasserstein and the Kolmogorov distances. While such results have previously been shown in Lachièze-Rey, Schulte and Yukich (2019), we extend the applicability by relaxing some conditions assumed there and provide further insight into the results. This is achieved by working with stabilization regions that may differ from balls o…
A new type of dependent thinning for point processes in continuous space is proposed, which leverages the advantages of determinantal point processes defined on finite spaces and, as such, is particularly amenable to statistical, numerical, and simulation techniques. It gives a new point process that can serve as a network model exhibiting repulsion. The properties and functions of the new point process, such as moment measures, the Laplace functional, the void probabilities, as well as conditional (Palm) characteristics can be estimated accurately by simulating the underlying (non-thinned) po…
We construct `self-stabilizing' processes {Z(t), t $\in [t_0,t_1)$}. These are random processes which when `localized', that is scaled around t to a fine limit, have the distribution of an $α$(Z(t))-stable process, where $α$ is some given function on R. Thus the stability index at t depends on the value of the process at t. Here we address the case where $α$: R $\to$ (0,1). We first construct deterministic functions which satisfy a kind of autoregressive property involving sums over a plane point set $Π$. Taking $Π$ to be a Poisson point process then defines a random pure jump process, which w…
We establish presumably optimal rates of normal convergence with respect to the Kolmogorov distance for a large class of geometric functionals of marked Poisson and binomial point processes on general metric spaces. The rates are valid whenever the geometric functional is expressible as a sum of exponentially stabilizing score functions satisfying a moment condition. By incorporating stabilization methods into the Malliavin-Stein theory, we obtain rates of normal approximation for sums of stabilizing score functions which either improve upon existing rates or are the first of their kind. Our g…
The Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter, which is used for multi-target tracking based on sensor measurements, relies on the propagation of the first-order moment, or intensity function, of a point process. This algorithm assumes that targets behave independently, an hypothesis which may not hold in practice due to potential target interactions. In this paper, we construct a second-order PHD filter based on Determinantal Point Processes (DPPs) which are able to model repulsion between targets. Such processes are characterized by their first and second-order moments, which allows the al…
A self-stabilizing processes $\{Z(t), t\in [t_0,t_1)\}$ is a random process which when localized, that is scaled to a fine limit near a given $t\in [t_0,t_1)$, has the distribution of an $α(Z(t))$-stable process, where $α: \mathbb{R}\to (0,2)$ is a given continuous function. Thus the stability index near $t$ depends on the value of the process at $t$. In an earlier paper we constructed self-stabilizing processes using sums over plane Poisson point processes in the case of $α: \mathbb{R}\to (0,1)$ which depended on the almost sure absolute convergence of the sums. Here we construct pure jump se…
The paper deals with a random connection model, a random graph whose vertices are given by a homogeneous Poisson point process on $\mathbb{R}^d$, and edges are independently drawn with probability depending on the locations of the two end points. We establish central limit theorems (CLT) for general functionals on this graph under minimal assumptions that are a combination of the weak stabilization for the-one cost and a $(2+δ)$-moment condition. As a consequence, CLTs for isomorphic subgraph counts, isomorphic component counts, the number of connected components are then derived. In addition,…
This paper establishes expectation and variance asymptotics for statistics of the Poisson--Voronoi approximation of general sets, as the underlying intensity of the Poisson point process tends to infinity. Statistics of interest include volume, surface area, Hausdorff measure, and the number of faces of lower-dimensional skeletons. We also consider the complexity of the so-called Voronoi zone and the iterated Voronoi approximation. Our results are consequences of general limit theorems proved with an abstract Steiner-type formula applicable in the setting of sums of stabilizing functionals.

This work develops a methodology for analyzing large-deviation lower tails associated with geometric functionals computed on a homogeneous Poisson point process. The technique applies to characteristics expressed in terms of stabilizing score functions exhibiting suitable monotonicity properties. We apply our results to clique counts in the random geometric graph, intrinsic volumes of Poisson-Voronoi cells, as well as power-weighted edge lengths in the random geometric, $k$-nearest neighbor and relative neighborhood graph.
We present new Poisson process approximation results for stabilizing functionals of Poisson and binomial point processes. These functionals are allowed to have an unbounded range of interaction and encompass many examples in stochastic geometry. Our bounds are derived for the Kantorovich-Rubinstein distance using the generator approach to Stein's method. We give different types of bounds for different point processes. While some of our bounds are given in terms of coupling of the point process with its Palm version, the others are in terms of the local dependence structure formalized via the n…
We give sufficient conditions for a discrete set of points in any dimensional real hyperbolic space to have positive anchored expansion. The first condition is a bounded mean density property, ensuring not too many points can accumulate in large regions. The second is a bounded mean vacancy condition, effectively ensuring there is not too much space left vacant by the points over large regions. These properties give as an easy corollary that stationary Poisson--Delaunay graphs have positive anchored expansion, as well as Delaunay graphs built from stationary determinantal point processes. We i…
We establish inequalities for assessing the distance between the distribution of a (possibly multidimensional) functional of a Poisson random measure and that of a Gaussian element. Our bounds only involve add-one cost operators at the order one - that we evaluate and compare at two different scales - and are specifically tailored for studying the Gaussian fluctuations of sequences of geometric functionals displaying a form of weak stabilization - see Penrose and Yukich (2001) and Penrose (2005). Our main bounds extend the estimates recently exploited by Chatterjee and Sen (2017) in the proof …
We consider undirected graphs that arise as deterministic functions of stationary point processes such that each point has degree bounded by two. For a large class of point processes and edge-drawing rules, we show that the arising graph has no infinite connected component, almost surely. In particular, this extends our previous result for SINR graphs based on stabilizing Cox point processes and verifies the conjecture of Balister and Bollobás that the bidirectional $k$-nearest neighbor graph of a two-dimensional homogeneous Poisson point process does not percolate for $k=2$.
We study a stable partial matching $τ$ of the (possibly randomized) $d$-dimensional lattice with a stationary determinantal point process $Ψ$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with intensity $α>1$. For instance, $Ψ$ might be a Poisson process. The matched points from $Ψ$ form a stationary and ergodic (under lattice shifts) point process $Ψ^τ$ with intensity $1$ that very much resembles $Ψ$ for $α$ close to $1$. On the other hand $Ψ^τ$ is hyperuniform and number rigid, quite in contrast to a Poisson process. We deduce these properties by proving more general results for a stationary point process $Ψ$, whose so…
We establish the Bahadur representation of sample quantiles for stabilizing score functionals in stochastic geometry and study local fluctuations of the corresponding empirical distribution function. The scores are obtained from a Poisson process. We apply the results to trimmed and Winsorized means of the score functionals and establish a law of the iterated logarithm for the sample quantiles of the scores.
We consider a spatial stochastic model of wireless cellular networks, where the base stations (BSs) are deployed according to a simple and stationary point process on $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\ge2$. In this model, we investigate tail asymptotics of the distribution of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR), which is a key quantity in wireless communications. In the case where the path-loss function representing signal attenuation is unbounded at the origin, we derive the exact tail asymptotics of the SIR distribution under an appropriate sufficient condition. While we show that widely-used models based o…
Spatial stochastic models have been much used for performance analysis of wireless communication networks. This is due to the fact that the performance of wireless networks depends on the spatial configuration of wireless nodes and the irregularity of node locations in a real wireless network can be captured by a spatial point process. Most works on such spatial stochastic models of wireless networks have adopted homogeneous Poisson point processes as the models of wireless node locations. While this adoption makes the models analytically tractable, it assumes that the wireless nodes are locat…
