The Papangelou intensities of determinantal (or fermion) point processes are investigated. These exhibit a monotonicity property expressing the repulsive nature of the interaction, and satisfy a bound implying stochastic domination by a Poisson point process. We also show that determinantal point processes satisfy the so-called condition $(Σ_λ)$ which is a general form of Gibbsianness. Under a continuity assumption, the Gibbsian conditional probabilities can be identified explicitly.
The problem of characterization of Gibbs random fields is considered. Various Gibbsianness criteria are obtained using the earlier developed one-point framework which in particular allows to describe random fields by means of either one-point conditional or one-point finite-conditional distributions. The main outcome are the criteria in terms of one-point finite-conditional distribution, one of which can be taken as a purely probabilistic definition of Gibbs random field.
For a class of one-dimensional determinantal point processes including those induced by orthogonal projections with integrable kernels satisfying a growth condition, it is proved that their conditional measures, with respect to the configuration in the complement of a compact interval, are orthogonal polynomial ensembles with explicitly found weights. Examples include the sine-process and the process with the Bessel kernel. The argument uses the quasi-invariance, established in [1], of our point processes under the group of piecewise isometries of the real line.
We continue the study of joint statistics of eigenvectors and eigenvalues initiated in the seminal papers of Chalker and Mehlig. The principal object of our investigation is the expectation of the matrix of overlaps between the left and the right eigenvectors for the complex $N\times N$ Ginibre ensemble, conditional on an arbitrary number $k=1,2,\ldots$ of complex eigenvalues. These objects provide the simplest generalisation of the expectations of the diagonal overlap ($k=1$) and the off-diagonal overlap ($k=2$) considered originally by Chalker and Mehlig. They also appear naturally in the pro…
The main result of this paper, Theorem 1.5, establishes a conjecture of Lyons and Peres: for a determinantal point process governed by a reproducing kernel, the system of kernels sampled at the particles of a random configuration is complete in the range of the kernel. A key step in the proof, Lemma 1.11, states that conditioning on the configuration in a subset preserves the determinantal property, and the main Lemma 1.12 is a new local property for kernels of conditional point processes. In Theorem 1.7 we prove the triviality of the tail sigma-algebra for determinantal point processes govern…
For a broad class of point processes, including determinantal point processes, we construct associated marked and conditional ensembles, which allow to study a random configuration in the point process, based on information about a randomly incomplete part of the configuration. We show that our construction yields a well behaving transformation of sufficiently regular point processes. In the case of determinantal point processes, we explain that special cases of the conditional ensembles already appear implicitly in the literature, namely in the study of unitary invariant random matrix ensembl…
Determinantal point process have recently been used as models in machine learning and this has raised questions regarding the characterizations of conditional independence. In this paper we investigate characterizations of conditional independence. We describe some conditional independencies through the conditions on the kernel of a determinantal point process, and show many can be obtained using the graph induced by a kernel of the $L$-ensemble.
The first main result of this note, Theorem 1.2, establishes the determinantal identities (7) and (8) for the expectation, under a determinantal point process governed by an integrable projection kernel, of scaling limits of characteristic polynomials sampled at several points. The determinantal identities (7) and (8) can be seen as the scaling limit of the identity of Fyodorov and Strahov for the averages of ratios of products of the values of the characteristic polynomial of a Gaussian unitary matrix. Borodin, Olshanski and Strahov derived the determinantal identity of Fyodorov and Strahov f…
The main result of this paper is that conditional measures of generalized Ginibre point processes, with respect to the configuration in the complement of a bounded open subset on $\mathbb{C}$, are orthogonal polynomial ensembles with weights found explicitly. An especially simple formula for conditional measures is obtained in the particular case of radially-symmetric determinantal point processes, including the classical Ginibre point process.

We propose a new class of algorithms for randomly scheduling network transmissions. The idea is to use (discrete) determinantal point processes (subsets) to randomly assign medium access to various {\em repulsive} subsets of potential transmitters. This approach can be seen as a natural extension of (spatial) Aloha, which schedules transmissions independently. Under a general path loss model and Rayleigh fading, we show that, similarly to Aloha, they are also subject to elegant analysis of the coverage probabilities and transmission attempts (also known as local delay). This is mainly due to t…
The analogy between determinantal point processes (DPPs) and free fermionic calculi is well-known. We point out that, from the perspective of free fermionic algebras, Pfaffian point processes (PfPPs) naturally emerge, and show that a positive contraction acting on a "doubled" one-particle space with an additional structure defines a unique PfPP. Recently, Olshanski inverted the direction from free fermions to DPPs, proposed a scheme to construct a fermionic state from a quasi-invariant probability measure, and introduced the notion of perfectness of a probability measure. We propose a method t…
A noncolliding diffusion process is a conditional process of $N$ independent one-dimensional diffusion processes such that the particles never collide with each other. This process realizes an interacting particle system with long-ranged strong repulsive forces acting between any pair of particles. When the individual diffusion process is a one-dimensional Brownian motion, the noncolliding process is equivalent in distribution with the eigenvalue process of an $N \times N$ Hermitian-matrix-valued process, which we call Dyson's model. For any deterministic initial configuration of $N$ particles…
A new type of dependent thinning for point processes in continuous space is proposed, which leverages the advantages of determinantal point processes defined on finite spaces and, as such, is particularly amenable to statistical, numerical, and simulation techniques. It gives a new point process that can serve as a network model exhibiting repulsion. The properties and functions of the new point process, such as moment measures, the Laplace functional, the void probabilities, as well as conditional (Palm) characteristics can be estimated accurately by simulating the underlying (non-thinned) po…
