A Hardy-Littlewood triple is a 3-tuple of integers with the form $(n, n+2, n+6)$. In this paper, we study Hardy-Littlewood triples of the form $(p, P_{a}, P_{b})$ and improve the upper and lower bound orders of it, where $p$ is a prime and $P_{r}$ has at most $r$ prime factors. Our new results generalize and improve the previous results.
Let $p>5$ be a fixed prime. We obtain an asymptotic formula related to small solutions of quadratic congruences of the form $x_1^2+x_2^2\equiv x_3^2\bmod{p^n}$ where $\max\{|x_1|,|x_2|,|x_3|\}\le p^{νn}$ with $ν>1/2$.
In this paper we study quadratic forms which are universal when restricted to almost prime inputs, establishing finiteness theorems akin to the Conway--Schneeberger 15 theorem.
A positive integer is called an $E_j$-number if it is the product of $j$ distinct primes. We prove that there are infinitely many triples of $E_2$-numbers within a gap size of $32$ and infinitely many triples of $E_3$-numbers within a gap size of $15$. Assuming the Elliot-Halberstam conjecture for primes and $E_2$-numbers, we can improve these gaps to $12$ and $5$, respectively. We can obtain even smaller gaps for almost primes, almost prime powers, or integers having the same exponent pattern in the their prime factorizations. In particular, if $d(x)$ denotes the number of divisors of $x$, we…
We show that every sufficiently large integer is a sum of a prime and two almost prime squares, and also a sum of a smooth number and two almost prime squares. The number of such representations is of the expected order of magnitude. We likewise treat representations of shifted primes p-1 as sums of two almost prime squares. The methods involve a combination of analytic, automorphic and algebraic arguments to handle representations by restricted binary quadratic forms with a high degree of uniformity.
We show that as soon as $h\to \infty$ with $X \to \infty$, almost all intervals $(x-h\log X, x]$ with $x \in (X/2, X]$ contain a product of at most two primes. In the proof we use Richert's weighted sieve, with the arithmetic information eventually coming from results of Deshouillers and Iwaniec on averages of Kloosterman sums.
We prove that analogues of the Hardy-Littlewood generalised twin prime conjecture for almost primes hold on average. Our main theorem establishes an asymptotic formula for the number of integers $n=p_1p_2 \leq X$ such that $n+h$ is a product of exactly two primes which holds for almost all $|h|\leq H$ with $\log^{19+\varepsilon}X\leq H\leq X^{1-\varepsilon}$, under a restriction on the size of one of the prime factors of $n$ and $n+h$. Additionally, we consider correlations $n,n+h$ where $n$ is a prime and $n+h$ has exactly two prime factors, establishing an asymptotic formula which holds for …
Let $α>1$ be irrational and of finite type, $β\in\mathbb{R}$. In this paper, it is proved that for $R\geqslant13$ and any fixed $c\in(1,c_R)$, there exist infinitely many primes in the intersection of Beatty sequence $\mathcal{B}_{α,β}$ and $\lfloor n^c\rfloor$, where $c_R$ is an explicit constant depending on $R$ herein, $n$ is a natural number with at most $R$ prime factors, counted with multiplicity.
Let $\mathcal{P}_r$ denote an almost-prime with at most $r$ prime factors, counted according to multiplicity. Suppose that $a$ and $q$ are positive integers satisfying $(a,q)=1$. Denote by $\mathcal{P}_2(a,q)$ the least almost-prime $\mathcal{P}_2$ which satisfies $\mathcal{P}_2\equiv a\pmod q$. In this paper, it is proved that for sufficiently large $q$, there holds \begin{equation*} \mathcal{P}_2(a,q)\ll q^{1.8345}. \end{equation*} This result constitutes an improvement upon that of Iwaniec, who obtained the same conclusion, but for the range $1.845$ in place of $1.8345$.

Let $f$ be a Rademacher or a Steinhaus random multiplicative function. Let $\varepsilon>0$ small. We prove that, as $x\rightarrow +\infty$, we almost surely have $$\bigg|\sum_{\substack{n\leq x\\ P(n)>\sqrt{x}}}f(n)\bigg|\leq\sqrt{x}(\log\log x)^{1/4+\varepsilon},$$ where $P(n)$ stands for the largest prime factor of $n$. This gives an indication of the almost sure size of the largest fluctuations of $f$.
It is well-known that pythagorean triples can be represented by points of the unit circle with rational coordinates. These points form an abelian group, and we describe its structure. This structural description yields, almost immediately, an enumeration of the normalized pythagorean triples with a given hypotenuse, and also to an effective method for producing all such triples. This effective method seems to be new. This paper is intended for the general mathematical audience, including undergraduate mathematics students, and therefore it contains plenty of background material, some history a…
We consider the exceptional set in the binary Goldbach problem for sums of two almost twin primes. Our main result is a power-saving bound for the exceptional set in the problem of representing $m=p_1+p_2$ where $p_1+2$ has at most $2$ prime divisors and $p_2+2$ has at most $3$ prime divisors. There are three main ingredients in the proof: a new transference principle like approach for sieves, a combination of the level of distribution estimates of Bombieri--Friedlander--Iwaniec and Maynard with ideas of Drappeau to produce power savings, and a generalisation of the circle method arguments of …
