In this work, we propose integral global optimality conditions for multiobjective problems not necessarily differentiable. The integral characterization, already known for single objective problems, are extended to multiobjective problems by weighted sum and Chebyshev weighted scalarizations. Using this last scalarization, we propose an algorithm for obtaining an approximation of the weak Pareto front whose effectiveness is illustrated by solving a collection of multiobjective test problems.
In this paper, we introduce the second-order subdifferentials for functions which are Gâteaux differentiable on an open set and whose Gâteaux derivative mapping is locally Lipschitz. Based on properties of this kind of second-order subdifferentials and techniques of variational analysis, we derive second-order necessary conditions for weak Pareto efficient solutions of multiobjective programming problems with constraints.
The purpose of this paper is to characterize the weak efficient solutions, the efficient solutions, and the isolated efficient solutions of a given vector optimization problem with finitely many convex objective functions and infinitely many convex constraints. To do this, we introduce new and already known data qualifications (conditions involving the constraints and/or the objectives) in order to get optimality conditions which are expressed in terms of either Karusk-Kuhn-Tucker multipliers or a new gap function associated with the given problem.
KKT Optimality Conditions for Multiobjective Optimal Control Problems with Endpoint and Mixed Constraints: Application to Sustainable Energy Management
We employ a fuzzy optimality condition for the Frechet subdifferential and some advanced techniques of variational analysis such as formulae for the subdifferentials of an infinite family of nonsmooth functions and the coderivative scalarization to investigate robust optimality condition and robust duality for a nonsmooth/nonconvex multiobjective optimization problem dealing with uncertain constraints in arbitrary Asplund spaces. We establish necessary optimality conditions for weakly and properly robust efficient solutions of the problem in terms of the Mordukhovich subdifferentials of the re…
In this paper, in the absence of any constraint qualifications, we develop sequential necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for a constrained multiobjective fractional programming problem characterizing a Henig proper efficient solution in terms of the $ε$-subdifferentials and the subdifferentials of the functions. This is achieved by employing a sequential Henig subdifferential calculus rule of the sums of $m \ (m\geq 2)$ proper convex vector valued mappings with a composition of two convex vector valued mappings. In order to present an example illustrating the main results of this p…
In the recent paper of Giorgi, Jiménez and Novo (J Optim Theory Appl 171:70--89, 2016), the authors introduced the so-called approximate Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (AKKT) condition for smooth multiobjective optimization problems and obtained some AKKT-type necessary optimality conditions and sufficient optimality conditions for weak efficient solutions of such a problem. In this note, we extend these optimality conditions to locally Lipschitz multiobjective optimization problems using Mordukhovich subdifferentials. Furthermore, we prove that, under some suitable additional conditions, an AKKT conditio…
This paper deals with Pareto solutions of a nonsmooth fractional interval-valued multiobjective optimization. We first introduce four types of Pareto solutions of the considered problem by considering the lower-upper interval order relation and then apply some advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation to establish necessary optimality conditions for these solutions. Sufficient conditions for Pareto solutions of such a problem are also provided by means of introducing the concepts of (strictly) generalized convex functions defined in terms of the limiting/Mordukhovi…
The study of fractional variational problems in terms of a combined fractional Caputo derivative is introduced. Necessary optimality conditions of Euler-Lagrange type for the basic, isoperimetric, and Lagrange variational problems are proved, as well as transversality and sufficient optimality conditions. This allows to obtain necessary and sufficient Pareto optimality conditions for multiobjective fractional variational problems.
In this paper, we study a nonsmooth/nonconvex multiobjective optimization problem with uncertain constraints in arbitrary Asplund spaces. We first provide necessary optimality condition in a fuzzy form for approximate weakly robust efficient solutions and then establish necessary optimality theorem for approximate weakly robust quasi-efficient solutions of the problem in the sense of the limiting subdifferential by exploiting a fuzzy optimality condition in terms of the Frechet subdifferential. Sufficient conditions for approximate (weakly) robust quasi-efficient solutions to such a problem ar…
We consider a multiobjective bilevel optimization problem with vector-valued upper- and lower-level objective functions. Such problems have attracted a lot of interest in recent years. However, so far, scalarization has appeared to be the main approach used to deal with the lower-level problem. Here, we utilize the concept of frontier map that extends the notion of optimal value function to our parametric multiobjective lower-level problem. Based on this, we build a tractable constraint qualification that we use to derive necessary optimality conditions for the problem. Subsequently, we show t…
This paper studies multiobjective optimal control problems in the continuous-time framework when the space of states and the space of controls are infinite-dimensional and with lighter smoothness assumptions than the usual ones. The paper generalizes to the multiobjective case existing results for single-objective optimal control problems in that framework. The dynamics are governed by differential equations and a finite number of terminal equality and inequality constraints are present. Necessary conditions of Pareto optimality are provided namely Pontryagin maximum principles in the strong f…
In this article we propose a descent method for equality and inequality constrained multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs) which generalizes the steepest descent method for unconstrained MOPs by Fliege and Svaiter to constrained problems by using two active set strategies. Under some regularity assumptions on the problem, we show that accumulation points of our descent method satisfy a necessary condition for local Pareto optimality. Finally, we show the typical behavior of our method in a numerical example.
In this paper, we consider a multiobjective optimal control problem where the preference relation in the objective space is defined in terms of a pointed convex cone containing the origin, which defines generalized Pareto optimality. For this problem, we introduce the set-valued return function V and provide a unique characterization for V in terms of contingent derivative and coderivative for set-valued maps, which extends two previously introduced notions of generalized solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for single objective optimal control problems.
In this article, we present an efficient descent method for locally Lipschitz continuous multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). The method is realized by combining a theoretical result regarding the computation of descent directions for nonsmooth MOPs with a practical method to approximate the subdifferentials of the objective functions. We show convergence to points which satisfy a necessary condition for Pareto optimality. Using a set of test problems, we compare our method to the multiobjective proximal bundle method by Mäkelä. The results indicate that our method is competitive while…
The Choquet integral is a preference model used in Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding (MCDA) to deal with interactions between criteria. The Stochastic Multiobjective Acceptability Analysis (SMAA) is an MCDA methodology used to take into account imprecision or lack of data in the problem at hand. For example, SMAA permits to compute the frequency that an alternative takes the k-th rank in the whole space of the admissible preference parameters, e.g. in case evaluations on the considered criteria are aggregated through the weighted sum model, in the space of weights compatible with the preferenc…
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for robust efficiency (in the sense of Ehrgott et al. (2014)) to multiobjective optimization problems that depend on uncertain parameters. These conditions state that a solution is robust efficient (under minimization) if it is optimal to a strongly increasing scalarizing function, and only if it is optimal to a strictly increasing scalarizing function. By counterexample, we show that the necessary condition cannot be strengthened to convex scalarizing functions, even for convex problems. We therefore define and characterize a subset of the robust…
In a wide range of applications it is desirable to optimally control a dynamical system with respect to concurrent, potentially competing goals. This gives rise to a multiobjective optimal control problem where, instead of computing a single optimal solution, the set of optimal compromises, the so-called Pareto set, has to be approximated. When the problem under consideration is described by a partial differential equation (PDE), as is the case for fluid flow, the computational cost rapidly increases and makes its direct treatment infeasible. Reduced order modeling is a very popular method to …
The problem of minimizing an integral functional of a vector-valued Lagrangian on a set of admissible arcs with given endpoints is considered. The problem is tackled by embedding it into a set-optimization problem such that the image space becomes a complete lattice. This procedure allows to define the concepts of minimizer and of infimizer, as two completely different notions. An infimizer is proved to contain minimizers or at least minimizing sequences for the linearly scalarized problems, with the scalarizing parameters being elements in the dual of the ordering cone. In this way set-valued…
This paper deals with optimal control problems of integral equations, with initial-final and running state constraints. The order of a running state constraint is defined in the setting of integral dynamics, and we work here with constraints of arbitrary high orders. First and second-order necessary conditions of optimality are obtained, as well as second-order sufficient conditions.
In this paper studies the maximal covering location problem, assuming imprecise knowledge of all data involved. The considered problem is modeled from a fuzzy perspective producing suitable fuzzy Pareto solutions. Some properties of the fuzzy model are studied, which validate the equivalent mixed-binary linear multiobjective formulation proposed. A solution algorithm is developed, based on the augmented weighted Tchebycheff method, which produces solutions of guaranteed Pareto optimality. The effectiveness of the algorithm has been tested with a series of computational experiments, whose numer…
This paper exemplifies that saturation is an indispensable structure on measure spaces to obtain the existence and characterization of solutions to nonconvex variational problems with integral constraints in Banach spaces and their dual spaces. We provide a characterization of optimality via the maximum principle for the Hamiltonian and an existence result without the purification of relaxed controls, in which the Lyapunov convexity theorem in infinite dimensions under the saturation hypothesis on the underlying measure space plays a crucial role. We also demonstrate that the existence of solu…
We prove the Euler-Lagrange delta-differential equations for problems of the calculus of variations on arbitrary time scales with delta-integral functionals depending on higher-order delta derivatives.
We prove necessary optimality conditions of Euler-Lagrange type for generalized problems of the calculus of variations on time scales with a Lagrangian depending not only on the independent variable, an unknown function and its delta derivative, but also on a delta indefinite integral that depends on the unknown function. Such kind of variational problems were considered by Euler himself and have been recently investigated in [Methods Appl. Anal. 15 (2008), no. 4, 427-435]. Our results not only provide a generalization to previous results, but also give some other interesting optimality condit…
A linear-quadratic optimal control problem for a forward stochastic Volterra integral equation (FSVIE, for short) is considered. Under the usual convexity conditions, open-loop optimal control exists, which can be characterized by the optimality system, a coupled system of an FSVIE and a Type-II backward SVIE (BSVIE, for short). To obtain a causal state feedback representation for the open-loop optimal control, a path-dependent Riccati equation for an operator-valued function is introduced, via which the optimality system can be decoupled. In the process of decoupling, a Type-III BSVIE is intr…
In this paper we consider an optimal control problem governed by a semilinear heat equation with bilinear control-state terms and subject to control and state constraints. The state constraints are of integral type, the integral being with respect to the space variable. The control is multidimensional. The cost functional is of a tracking type and contains a linear term in the control variables. We derive second order sufficient conditions relying on the Goh transform. The appendix provides an example illustrating the applicability of our results.

We analyze optimal control problems for multiple Fredholm and Volterra integral equations. These are non Pontryaginian optimal control problems, i.e. an extremum principle of Pontryagin type does not hold. We obtain first order necessary conditions for optimality, and second order necessary and sufficient conditions. We illustrate with applications to first order and second order Volterra bilinear control problems.
This paper provides necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality for variational problems that deal with a fractional derivative with respect to another function. Fractional Euler--Lagrange equations are established for the fundamental problem and when in presence of an integral constraint. A Legendre condition, which is a second-order necessary condition, is also obtained. Other cases, such as the infinite horizon problem, the problem with delays in the Lagrangian, and the problem with high-order derivatives, are considered. Finally, a necessary condition for the optimal fractional order…
In this article we study optimal control problems for systems that are affine with respect to some of the control variables and nonlinear in relation to the others. We consider finitely many equality and inequality constraints on the initial and final values of the state. We investigate singular optimal solutions for this class of problems, for which we obtain second order necessary and sufficient conditions for weak optimality in integral form. We also derive Goh pointwise necessary optimality conditions. We show an example to illustrate the results.
We prove Euler-Lagrange type equations and transversality conditions for generalized infinite horizon problems of the calculus of variations on time scales. Here the Lagrangian depends on the independent variable, an unknown function and its nabla derivative, as well as a nabla indefinite integral that depends on the unknown function.
We consider fractional isoperimetric problems of calculus of variations with double integrals via the recent modified Riemann-Liouville approach. A necessary optimality condition of Euler-Lagrange type, in the form of a multitime fractional PDE, is proved, as well as a sufficient condition and fractional natural boundary conditions.
We extend in two ways the standard Karush-Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions to problems with a convex objective, convex functional constraints, and the extra requirement that some of the variables must be integral. While the standard Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions involve separating hyperplanes, our extension is based on lattice-free polyhedra. Our optimality conditions allow us to define an exact dual of our original mixed-integer convex problem.
Conic optimization is the minimization of a convex quadratic function subject to conic constraints. We introduce a novel first-order method for conic optimization, named \emph{extrapolated proportional-integral projected gradient method (xPIPG)}, that automatically detects infeasibility. The iterates of xPIPG either asymptotically satisfy a set of primal-dual optimality conditions, or generate a proof of primal or dual infeasibility. We demonstrate the application of xPIPG using benchmark problems in model predictive control. xPIPG outperforms many state-of-the-art conic optimization solvers, …
In this paper the necessary conditions of optimality in the form of maximum principle are derived for a very general class of variational problems. This class includes problems with any optimization criteria and constraints that can be constructed by combining some basic types (differential equation, integral equations, algebraic equation, differential equations with delays, etc). For each problem from this class the necessary optimality conditions are produced by constructing its Lagrange function $R$ and then by dividing its variables into three groups denoted as $u(t)$, $x(t)$ and $a$ corre…
