In this paper, a general hybrid fixed point theorem for the contractive mappings in generalized Banach spaces is proved via measure of weak non-compactness and it is further applied to fractional integral equations for proving the existence results for the solutions under mixed Lipschitz and weakly sequentially continuous conditions. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the result.
In recent decades, topology has come to play an increasing role in some geometric aspects of Banach space theory. The class of so-called $w^*$-locally relatively compact sets was introduced recently by Fonf, Pallares, Troyanski and the author, and were found to be a useful topological tool in the theory of isomorphic smoothness and polyhedrality in Banach spaces. We develop the topological theory of these sets and present some Banach space applications.
An L-embedded Banach spaace is a Banach space which is complemented in its bidual such that the norm is additive between the two complementary parts. On such spaces we define a topology, called an abstract measure topology, which by known results coincides with the usual measure topology on preduals of finite von Neumann algebras (like $L_1([0,1])$). Though not numerous, the known properties of this topology suffice to generalize several results on subspaces of $L_1([0,1])$ to subspaces of arbitrary L-embedded spaces.
A net $(x_α)$ in a Banach lattice $X$ is said to un-converge to a vector $x$ if $\bigl\lVert\lvert x_α-x\rvert\wedge u\bigr\rVert\to 0$ for every $u\in X_+$. In this paper, we investigate un-topology, i.e., the topology that corresponds to un-convergence. We show that un-topology agrees with the norm topology iff $X$ has a strong unit. Un-topology is metrizable iff $X$ has a quasi-interior point. Suppose that $X$ is order continuous, then un-topology is locally convex iff $X$ is atomic. An order continuous Banach lattice $X$ is a KB-space iff its closed unit ball $B_X$ is un-complete. For a Ba…
In this article we investigate the disjointly non-singular (DNS) operators. Following [8] we say that an operator $T$ from a Banach lattice $F$ into a Banach space $E$ is DNS, if no restriction of $T$ to a subspace generated by a disjoint sequence is strictly singular. We partially answer a question from [8] by showing that this class of operators forms an open subset of $L\left(F,E\right)$ as soon as $F$ is order continuous. Moreover, we show that in this case $T$ is DNS if and only if the norm topology is the minimal topology which is simultaneously stronger than the unbounded norm topology …
In this paper, we study $un$-dual (in symbol, $\ud{E}$) of Banach lattice $E$ and compare it with topological dual $E^*$. If $E^*$ has order continuous norm, then $E^* = \ud{E}$. We introduce and study weakly unbounded norm topology ($wun$-topology) on Banach lattices and compare it with weak topology and $uaw$-topology. In the final, we introduce and study $wun$-Dunford-Pettis opertors from a Banach lattice $E$ into Banach space $X$ and we investigate some of its properties and its relationships with others known operators.
The aim of this note is study the topology generated by Lipschitz slices in the unit sphere of a Banach space. We prove that the above topology agrees with the weak topology in the unit sphere and, as a consequence, we obtain Lipschitz characterizations of classical linear topics in Banach spaces, as Radon-Nikodym property, convex point of continuity property and strong regularity, which shows that the above classical linear properties only depend on the natural uniformity in the Banach space given by the metric and the linear structure.
Several recent papers investigated unbounded and statistical versions of order convergence and topology convergence in locally solid Riesz space. In this papers, we study the statistical unbounded order and topology convergence in Riesz spaces and Banach lattices. In particular, we study the relationship of those convergence and characterize order continuous, KB, reflexive Banach lattices in terms of these convergence.
In a previous paper the second author introduced a compact topology on the space of closed ideals of a unital Banach algebra A. If A is separable then this topology is either metrizable or else neither Hausdorff nor first countable. Here it is shown that this topology is Hausdorff if A is the algebra of once continuously differentiable functions on an interval, but that if A is a uniform algebra then this topology is Hausdorff if and only if A has spectral synthesis. An example is given of a strongly regular, uniform algebra for which every maximal ideal has a bounded approximate identity, but…
We start the systematic study of Fréchet spaces which are $\aleph$-spaces in the weak topology. A topological space $X$ is an $\aleph_0$-space or an $\aleph$-space if $X$ has a countable $k$-network or a $σ$-locally finite $k$-network, respectively. We are motivated by the following result of Corson (1966): If the space $C_{c}(X)$ of continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonoff space $X$ endowed with the compact-open topology is a Banach space, then $C_{c}(X)$ endowed with the weak topology is an $\aleph_0$-space if and only if $X$ is countable. We extend Corson's result as follows: If the …
M. Talagrand showed that, for the Cech-Stone compactification βω of the space of natural numbers, the norm and the weak topology generate different Borel structures in the Banach space C(βω). We prove that the Borel structures in C(βω) generated by the weak and the pointwise topology are also different. We also show that in C(ω*), where ω*=βω- ω, there is no countable family of pointwise Borel sets separating functions from C(ω*).
In this paper, we present a geometric form of the Hahn-Banach extension theorem for $L^{0}-$linear functions and prove that the geometric form is equivalent to the analytic form of the Hahn-Banach extension theorem. Further, we use the geometric form to give a new proof of a known basic strict separation theorem in random locally convex modules. Finally, using the basic strict separation theorem we establish the Goldstine-Weston theorem in random normed modules under the two kinds of topologies----the $(ε,λ)-$topology and the locally $L^{0}-$convex topology, and also provide a counterexample s…
Using the game approach to fragmentability, we give new and simpler proofs of the following known results: (a) If the Banach space admits an equivalent Kadec norm, then its weak topology is fragmented by a metric which is stronger than the norm topology. (b) If the Banach space admits an equivalent rotund norm, then its weak topology is fragmented by a metric. (c) If the Banach space is weakly locally uniformly rotund, then its weak topology is fragmented by a metric which is stronger than the norm topology.
Let A be a Banach algebra and I be a closed ideal of A. We say that A is amenable relative to I, if A/I is an amenable Banach algebra. We study the relative amenability of Banach algebras and investigate the relative amenability of triangular Banach algebras and Banach algebras associated to locally compact groups. We generalize some of the previous known results by applying the concept of relative amenability of Banach algebras, especially, we present a generalization of Johnson's theorem in the concept of relative amenability.
It is a translation of an old paper of mine. We describe the topology tau_p in the space Pi_p(Y,X), for which the closures of convex sets in tau_p and in *-weak topology of the space Pi_p(Y,X) are coincident. Thereafter, we investigate some properties of the space Pi_p, related to this new topology. 2010-remark: Occasionally, the topology is coincides with the lambda_p-topology from the paper "Compact operators which factor through subspaces of l_p", Math. Nachr. 281(2008), 412-423 by Deba Prasad Sinha and Anil Kumar Karn.
Let X be a separable metric space and let βbe the strict topology on the space of bounded continuous functions on X, which has the space of τ-additive Borel measures as a continuous dual space. We prove a Banach-Dieudonneé type result for the space of bounded continuous functions equipped with β. As a consequence, this space is hypercomplete and a Pták space. Additionally, the closed graph, inverse mapping and open mapping theorems holds for linear maps between space of this type.
We study the class of Banach spaces $X$ such that the locally convex space $(X,μ(X,Y))$ is complete for every norming and norm-closed subspace $Y \subset X^*$, where $μ(X,Y)$ denotes the Mackey topology on $X$ associated to the dual pair $\langle X,Y\rangle$. Such Banach spaces are called fully Mackey complete. We show that fully Mackey completeness is implied by Efremov's property ($\mathcal{E}$) and, on the other hand, it prevents the existence of subspaces isomorphic to $\ell_1(ω_1)$. This extends previous results by Guirao, Montesinos and Zizler [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 445 (2017), 944-952] a…
We investigate for a bounded semigroup of linear operators $S$ on a Banach space $E$ and a vector $x \in E$, when relative compactness of $S(I-T)x$ for every $T \in S$ implies relative compactness of the orbit $Sx$. In particular, we derive characterizations of separable Banach spaces not containing $\mathrm{c}_0$ and of reflexivity of Banach spaces with a Schauder basis in terms of such compactness results.
A Banach space $X$ is said to have property ($μ^s$) if every weak$^*$-null sequence in $X^*$ admits a subsequence such that all of its subsequences are Cesàro convergent to $0$ with respect to the Mackey topology. This is stronger than the so-called property (K) of Kwapień. We prove that property $(μ^s)$ holds for every subspace of a Banach space which is strongly generated by an operator with Banach-Saks adjoint (e.g. a strongly super weakly compactly generated space). The stability of property $(μ^s)$ under $\ell^p$-sums is discussed. For a family $\mathcal{A}$ of relatively weakly compact s…
This paper deals with the interplay of the geometry of the norm and the weak topology in Banach spaces. Both dual and intrinsic connections between weak forms of rotundity and smoothness ared discussed. Weakly exposed points, weakly locally uniformly rotund spaces, smoothness, duality and the interplay of all the above are studied.
In this paper, we study a new iterative method for finding the fixed point of a weak Bregman relatively nonexpansive mapping and the set of solutions of generalized mixed equilibrium problems in Banach spaces.
Being motivated by the famous Kaplansky theorem we study various sequential properties of a Banach space $E$ and its closed unit ball $B$, both endowed with the weak topology of $E$. We show that $B$ has the Pytkeev property if and only if $E$ in the norm topology contains no isomorphic copy of $\ell_1$, while $E$ has the Pytkeev property if and only if it is finite-dimensional. We extend Schlüchtermann and Wheeler's result by showing that $B$ is a (separable) metrizable space if and only if it has countable $cs^\ast$-character and is a $k$-space. As a corollary we obtain that $B$ is Polish if…
In this paper, we introduce a new modified Ishikawa iteration for finding a common element of the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem and the set of fixed points of relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space. Our results generalize, extend and enrich some existing results in the literature.
A Banach space $X$ is said to have property (K) if every $w^*$-convergent sequence in $X^*$ admits a convex block subsequence which converges with respect to the Mackey topology. We study the connection of this property with strongly weakly compactly generated Banach spaces and its stability under subspaces, quotients and $\ell^p$-sums. We extend a result of Frankiewicz and Plebanek by proving that property (K) is preserved by $\ell^1$-sums of less than $\mathfrak{p}$ summands. Without any cardinality restriction, we show that property (K) is stable under $\ell^p$-sums for $1<p<\infty$.
A boundary for a Banach space is a subset of the dual unit sphere with the property that each element of the Banach space attains its norm on an element of that subset. Trivially, the pointwise convergence with respect to such a boundary is coarser than the weak topology on the Banach space. Godefroy's Boundary Problem asks whether nevertheless both topologies have the same bounded compact sets. This paper contains the answer in the positive.
Concept of p-frame with the help of b-linear functional in the case of n-Banach space is being presented and its few properties, one of them, Cartesian product of two p-frames again becomes a p-frame, have been discussed. Finally, the perturbation results and the stability of p-frame in n-Banach space with respect to b-linear functional are being studied.
This paper is devoted to the study of vector valued reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. We focus on reproducing kernels in vector-valued reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. In particular we extend reproducing kernels to relative reproducing kernels and prove some theorems in this subject.
We introduce the notion of orthogonality in a vector space with a topology on it. To serve our purpose, we define orthogonality space for a given vector space X, using the topology on it. We show that for a suitable choice of orthogonality space, Birkhoff-James orthogonality in a Banach space is a particular case of the orthogonality introduced by us. We characterize the right additivity of orthogonality in our setting and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a Banach space to be smooth as a corollary to our characterization. Finally, using our notion of orthogonality, we obtain a t…
The paper investigates the variation of the spectrum of operators in infinite dimensional Banach spaces. In particular, it is shown that the spectrum function is Borel from the space of bounded operators on a separable Banach space; equipped with the strong operator topology, into the Polish space of compact subsets of the closed unit disc of the complex plane; equipped with the Hausdorff topology. Remarks and results are given when other topologies are used.
Let $X$ be a Banach space and $Conv_H(X)$ be the space of non-empty closed convex subsets of $X$, endowed with the Hausdorff metric $d_H$. We prove that each connected component of the space $Conv_H(X)$ is homeomorphic to one of the spaces: a singleton, the real line, a closed half-plane, the Hilbert cube multiplied by the half-line, the separable Hilbert space, or a Hilbert space of density not less than continuum.
Strong convergence of a new iterative process based on the Shrinking projection method to a common element of the set of common fixed points of an infinite family of relatively quasi-nonexpansive multivalued mappings and the solution set of an equilibrium problem in a Banach space is established. Our results improved and extend the corresponding results announced by many others.
We shall develop two notions of pointwise amenability, namely pointwise Connes amenability and pointwise $w^*$-approximate Connes amenability, for dual Banach algebras which take the $w^*$-topology into account. We shall study these concepts for the Banach sequence algebras $\ell^1(ω)$ and the weighted semigroup algebras $ \ell^{1}(\mathbb{N}_{\wedge},ω)$. For a weight $ω$ on a discrete semigroup $S$, we shall investigate pointwise amenability/Connes amenability of $\ell^1(S,ω)$ in terms of diagonals.
Following [3] we say that a Tychonoff space $X$ is an Ascoli space if every compact subset $\mathcal{K}$ of $C_k(X)$ is evenly continuous; this notion is closely related to the classical Ascoli theorem. Every $k_\mathbb{R}$-space, hence any $k$-space, is Ascoli. Let $X$ be a metrizable space. We prove that the space $C_{k}(X)$ is Ascoli iff $C_{k}(X)$ is a $k_\mathbb{R}$-space iff $X$ is locally compact. Moreover, $C_{k}(X)$ endowed with the weak topology is Ascoli iff $X$ is countable and discrete. Using some basic concepts from probability theory and measure-theoretic properties of $\ell_1$,…
We investigate topologically left Noetherian Banach algebras. We show that if $G$ is a compact group, then $L^{\, 1}(G)$ is topologically left Noetherian if and only if $G$ is metrisable. We prove that, given a Banach space $E$ such that $E'$ has BAP, the algebra of compact operators $\mathcal{K}(E)$ is topologically left Noetherian if and only if $E'$ is separable; it is topologically right Noetherian if and only if $E$ is separable. We then give some examples of dual Banach algebras which are topologically left Noetherian in the weak*-topology. Finally we give a unified approach to classifyi…
Known results are reviewed about the bounded and convex bounded variants, bT and cbT, of a topology T on a real Banach space. The focus is on the cases of T = w(P*, P) and of T = m(P*, P), which are the weak* and the Mackey topologies on a dual Banach space P*. The convex bounded Mackey topology, cbm(P*, P), is known to be identical to m(P*, P). As for bm(P*, P), it is conjectured to be strictly stronger than m(P*, P) or, equivalently, not to be a vector topology (except when P is reflexive). Some uses of the bounded Mackey and the bounded weak* topologies in economic theory and its applicatio…
In this article we give a homological characterization of the topology of Stein spaces over any valued base field. In particular, when working over the field of complex numbers, we obtain a characterization of the usual Euclidean (transcendental) topology of complex analytic spaces. For non-Archimedean base fields the topology we characterize coincides with the topology of the Berkovich analytic space associated to a non-Archimedean Stein algebra. Because the characterization we used is borrowed from a definition in derived geometry, this work should be read as a contribution towards the found…
Bounded linear operators on separable Banach spaces algebraically similar to the classical Volterra operator $V$ acting on $C[0,1]$ are characterized. From this characterization it follows that $V$ does not determine the topology of $C[0,1]$, which answers a question raised by Armando Villena. A sufficient condition for an injective bounded linear operator on a Banach space to determine its topology is obtained. From this condition it follows, for instance, that the Volterra operator acting on the Hardy space $\H^p$ of the unit disk determines the topology of $\H^p$ for any $p\in[1,\infty]$.
In this paper, we extend the Banach-Stone theorem to the non commutative case, i.e, we prove that the structure of the liminal $C^{*}$-algebras $\cal A$ determines the topology of its primitive ideal space.
The abscissas of convergence, uniform convergence and absolute convergence of vector valued Dirichlet series with respect to the original topology and with respect to the weak topology $σ(X,X')$ of a locally convex space $X$, in particular of a Banach space $X$, are compared. The relation of their coincidence with geometric or topological properties of the underlying space $X$ is investigated. Cotype in the context of Banach spaces, and nuclearity and certain topological invariants for Fréchet spaces play a relevant role.
A net $(x_α)$ in an $f$-algebra $E$ is called multiplicative order convergent to $x\in E$ if $\lvert x_α-x\rvert u\oc 0$ for all $u\in E_+$. This convergence has been investigated and applied in a recent paper by Aydın \cite{AAydn}. In this paper, we study a variation of this convergence for Banach lattice $f$-algebras. A net $(x_α)$ in a Banach lattice $f$-algebra $E$ is said to be multiplicative norm convergent to $x\in E$ if $\lvert \lvert x_α-x\rvert u\rVert\to 0$ for each $u\in E_+$. We study on this concept and investigate its relationship with the other convergences, and also we introdu…
Let $B(E,F)$ denote the set of all bounded linear operators from $E$ into $F$, and $B^+(E,F)$ the set of double splitting operators in $B(E,F)$. When both $E,F$ are infinite dimensional , in $B(E,F)$ there are not more elementary transformations in matrices so that lose the way to discuss the path connectedness of such sets in $B^+(E,F)$ as $Φ_{m,n}=\{T\in B(E,F): \dim N(T)=m<\infty \ \mbox{and} \ \mathrm{codim}R(T)=n<\infty\},$ $F_k=\{T\in B(E,F): \mathrm{rank}\, T =k<\infty\}$, and so forth. In this paper we present five theorems on projections and splitting subspaces in Banach spaces instea…
In this article, we apply the approach of relative algebraic geometry towards analytic geometry to the category of bornological and Ind-Banach spaces (non-Archimedean or not). We are able to recast the theory of Grosse-Klönne dagger affinoid domains with their weak G-topology in this new language. We prove an abstract recognition principle for the generators of their standard topology (the morphisms appearing in the covers). We end with a sketch of an emerging theory of dagger affinoid spaces over the integers, or any Banach ring, where we can see the Archimedean and non-Archimedean worlds com…
Fixed a Banach operator ideal $\mathcal A$, we introduce and investigate two new approximation properties, which are strictly weaker than the bounded approximation property (BAP) for $\mathcal A$ of Lima, Lima and Oja (2010). We call them the weak BAP for $\mathcal A$ and the local BAP for $\mathcal A$, showing that the latter is in turn strictly weaker than the former. Under this framework, we address the question of approximation properties passing from dual spaces to underlying spaces. We relate the weak and local BAPs for $\mathcal A$ with approximation properties given by tensor norms and…
We prove that any pair of reasonable cross norms defined on the tensor product of $n$ Banach spaces induce $(2k)^{n-1}$-Lipschitz equivalent metrics (and thus, a unique topology) on the set $S^k_{X_1,\ldots, X_n}$ of vectors of rank $\leq k$. With this, we define the Segre cone of Banach spaces, $Σ_{X_1,\ldots, X_n},$ and state when $S^k_{X_1,\ldots, X_n}$ is closed. We introduce an auxiliary mapping (a $Σ$-operator) that allows us to study multilinear mappings with a geometrical point of view. We use the isometric correspondence between multilinear mappings and Lipschitz $Σ$-operators, to hav…
In this paper, we extend the Banach-Stone theorem to the non commutative case, i.e, we give a partial answere to the question 2.1 of [13], and we prove that the structure of the postliminal C*-algebras A determines the topology of its primitive ideals space.
In this paper it will be shown that assuming the Continuum Hypothesis (CH) every nonreflexive Banach space ultrapower is isometrically isomorphic to the space of continuous, bounded and real-valued functions on the Parovicenko space. This Representation Theorem will be helpful in proving some facts from geometry and topology of nonreflexive Banach space ultrapowers.
We study Banach spaces with a weak stable unit ball, that is Banach spaces where every convex combination of relatively weakly open subsets in its unit ball is again a relatively weakly open subset in its unit ball. It is proved that the class of $L_1$ preduals with a weak stable unit ball agree with those $L_1$ preduals which are purely atomic, that is preduals of $\ell_1(Γ)$ for some set $Γ$, getting in this way a complete geometrical characterization of purely atomic preduals of $L_1$, which answers a setting problem. As a consequence, we prove the equivalence for $L_1$ preduals of differen…
We obtain a refinement of a selection principle for $(\mathcal{K}, λ)$-wide-$(s)$ sequences in Banach spaces due to Rosenthal. This result is then used to show that if $C$ is a bounded, non-weakly compact, closed convex subset of a Banach space $X$, then there exists a Hausdorff vector topology $τ$ on $X$ which is weaker than the weak topology, a closed, convex $τ$-compact subset $K$ of $C$ and an affine bi-Lipschitz map $T: K\to K$ without fixed points.
In this paper we focus on the relation between Riemann integrability and weak continuity. A Banach space $X$ is said to have the weak Lebesgue property if every Riemann integrable function from $[0,1]$ into $X$ is weakly continuous almost everywhere. We prove that the weak Lebesgue property is stable under $\ell_1$-sums and obtain new examples of Banach spaces with and without this property. Furthermore, we characterize Dunford-Pettis operators in terms of Riemann integrability and provide a quantitative result about the size of the set of $τ$-continuous non Riemann integrable functions, with …
For every well founded tree $\mathcal{T}$ having a unique root such that every non-maximal node of it has countable infinitely many immediate successors, we construct a $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-space $X_{\mathcal{T}}$. We prove that for each such tree $\mathcal{T}$, the Calkin algebra of $X_{\mathcal{T}}$ is homomorphic to $C(\mathcal{T})$, the algebra of continuous functions defined on $\mathcal{T}$, equipped with the usual topology. We use this fact to conclude that for every countable compact metric space $K$ there exists a $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-space whose Calkin algebra is isomorphic, as a Ban…
A Banach space $X$ is said to have Efremov's property ($\mathcal{E}$) if every element of the weak$^*$-closure of a convex bounded set $C \subseteq X^*$ is the weak$^*$-limit of a sequence in $C$. By assuming the Continuum Hypothesis, we prove that there exist maximal almost disjoint families of infinite subsets of $\mathbb{N}$ for which the corresponding Johnson-Lindenstrauss spaces enjoy (resp. fail) property ($\mathcal{E}$). This is related to a gap in [A. Plichko, Three sequential properties of dual Banach spaces in the weak$^*$ topology, Topology Appl. 190 (2015), 93--98] and allows to an…
In this paper the theory of uniformly convex metric spaces is developed. These spaces exhibit a generalized convexity of the metric from a fixed point. Using a (nearly) uniform convexity property a simple proof of reflexivity is presented and a weak topology of such spaces is analyzed. This topology called co-convex topology agrees with the usualy weak topology in Banach spaces. An example of a $CAT(0)$-spaces with weak topology which is not Hausdorff is given. This answers questions raised by Monod 2006, Kirk and Panyanak 2008 and Espínola and Fernández-León 2009. In the end existence and uni…
Let X be a Banach space. Given a subset A of the dual space X* denote by $A_{(1)}$ the weak* sequential closure of A, i.e., the set of all limits of weak*-convergent sequences in A. The study of weak* sequential closures of linear subspaces of the duals of separable Banach spaces was initiated by S.Banach. The first results of this study were presented in the appendix to his book "Theorie des operations lineaires" (1932). It is natural to suppose that the reason for studying weak* sequential closures by S. Banach and S. Mazurkiewicz was the lack of acquaintance of S. Banach and his school with…
