Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a factor with dim$\mathcal{A}\geq2$. For $A, B\in\mathcal{A}$, define by $[A, B]_{*}=AB-BA^{\ast}$ and $A\bullet B=AB+BA^{\ast}$ the new products of $A$ and $B$. In this paper, it is proved that a map $Φ: \mathcal {A}\rightarrow \mathcal {A}$ satisfies $Φ([A, B]_{*}\bullet C)=[Φ(A), B]_{*}\bullet C+[A, Φ(B)]_{*}\bullet C+[A, B]_{*}\bullet Φ(C)$ for all $A, B,C\in\mathcal {A}$ if and only if $Φ$ is an additive $*-$derivation.
R.V. Kadison defined the notion of local derivation on an algebra and proved that every continuous local derivation on a von Neumann algebra is a derivation (Kadison 1990). We provide the analogous result in the setting of Jordan triples.
We prove that if $\mathcal M$ is a properly infinite von Neumann algebra and $LS(\mathcal M)$ is the local measurable operator algebra affiliated with $\mathcal M$, then every Jordan derivation from $LS(\mathcal M)$ into itself is continuous with respect to the local measure topology $t(\mathcal M)$. We construct an extension of a Jordan derivation from $\mathcal M$ into $LS(\mathcal M)$ up to a Jordan derivation from $LS(\mathcal M)$ into itself. Moreover, we prove that if $\mathcal M$ is a properly von Neumann algebra and $\mathcal A$ is a subalgebra of $LS(\mathcal M)$ such that $\mathcal M…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a factor von Neumann algebra and $ϕ$ be the $\ast$-Jordan derivation on $A$, that is, for every $A,B \in \mathcal{A}$, $ϕ(A\diamond_{1} B) = ϕ(A)\diamond_{1} B + A\diamond_{1}ϕ( B)$ where $A\diamond_{1} B = AB + BA^{\ast}$, then $ϕ$ is additive $\ast$-derivation.
For a given ring $\mathfrak{R}$ and a locally finite pre-ordered set $(X, \leq)$, consider $I(X, \mathfrak{R})$ to be the incidence algebra of $X$ over $\mathfrak{R}$. Motivated by a Xiao's result which states that every Jordan derivation of $I(X,\mathfrak{R})$ is a derivation in the case $\mathfrak{R}$ is $2$-torsion free, one proves that each generalized Jordan derivation of $I(X,\mathfrak{R})$ is a generalized derivation provided $\mathfrak{R}$ is $2$-torsion free, getting as a consequence the above mentioned result.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a prime $\ast$-algebra and $Φ$ preserves triple $\ast$-Jordan derivation on $\mathcal{A}$, that is, for every $A,B \in \mathcal{A}$, $$Φ(A\diamond B \diamond C)=Φ(A)\diamond B\diamond C+A\diamond Φ(B)\diamond C+A\diamond B\diamond Φ(C)$$ where $A\diamond B = AB + BA^{\ast}$ then $Φ$ is additive. Moreover, if $Φ(αI)$ is self-adjoint for $α\in\{1,i\}$ then $Φ$ is a $\ast$-derivation.
Without the faithful assumption, we prove that every Jordan derivation on a class of path algebras of quivers without oriented cycles is a derivation and that every Lie derivation on such kinds of algebras is of the standard form.
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the matrix ring over a commutative ring is an inner derivation and every derivation on an associative ring has an extension to a derivation on the matrix ring over this associative ring. We also develop a Jordan analog of the above method and prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Jordan matrix ring over a commutative ring is a derivation.
Let $\mathcal R$ be a ring, $\mathcal{M}$ be a $\mathcal R$-bimodule and $m,n$ be two fixed nonnegative integers with $m+n\neq0$. An additive mapping $δ$ from $\mathcal R$ into $\mathcal{M}$ is called an \emph{$(m,n)$-Jordan derivation} if $(m+n)δ(A^{2})=2mAδ(A)+2nδ(A)A$ for every $A$ in $\mathcal R$. In this paper, we prove that every $(m,n)$-Jordan derivation from a $C^{*}$-algebra into its Banach bimodule is zero. An additive mapping $δ$ from $\mathcal R$ into $\mathcal{M}$ is called a $(m,n)$-Jordan derivable mapping at $W$ in $\mathcal R$ if $(m+n)δ(AB+BA)=2mδ(A)B+2mδ(B)A+2nAδ(B)+2nBδ(A)$…
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a complex Hilbert space, $\mathcal{B(H)}$ be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{A} \subseteq \mathcal{B(H)}$ be a von Neumann algebra without central summands of type $I_1$. For arbitrary elements $A, B\in \mathcal{A}$, one can define their $\ast$-Jordan product in the sense of $A\diamond B = AB+BA^\ast$. Let $p_n(x_1,x_2,\cdots,x_n)$ be the polynomial defined by $n$ indeterminates $x_1, \cdots, x_n$ and their $\ast$-Jordan products. In this article, it is shown that a mapping $δ: \mathcal{A} \longrightarrow \mathcal{B(H)}$ satisfies…
In the present paper we prove that every additive (not necessarily homogenous) local inner derivation on the algebra of matrices over an arbitrary field is an inner derivation, and every local inner derivation on the ring of matrices over a finite ring generated by the identity element or the ring of integers is an inner derivation. We also prove that every additive local inner derivation on the Jordan algebra of symmetric matrices over an arbitrary field is a derivation, and every local inner derivation on the Jordan ring of symmetric matrices over a finite ring generated by the identity elem…
The main goal of this paper is to introduce and explore an appropriate notion of weakly Rickart JB$^*$-triples. We introduce weakly order Rickart JB$^*$-triples, and we show that a C$^*$-algebra $A$ is a weakly (order) Rickart JB$^*$-triple precisely when it is a weakly Rickart C$^*$-algebra. We also prove that the Peirce-2 subspace associated with a tripotent in a weakly order Rickart JB$^*$-triple is a Rickart JB$^*$-algebra in the sense of Ayupov and Arzikulov. By extending a classical property of Rickart C$^*$-algebras, we prove that every weakly order Rickart JB$^*$-triple is generated by…
We introduce the notion of a Jordan triple module and determine the precise conditions under which every derivation from a JB*-triple E into a Banach (Jordan) triple E-module is continuous. In particular, every derivation from a real or complex JB*-triple into its dual space is automatically continuous. Among the consequences, we prove that every triple derivation from a C*-algebra A to a Banach triple A-module is continuous. In particular, every Jordan derivation from A to a Banach A-bimodule is a derivation, a result which complements a classical theorem due to B.E. Johnson and solves a prob…
Let $\mathcal {A}$ be a unital $\ast$-algebra. For $A, B\in\mathcal{A}$, define by $[A, B]_{*}=AB-BA^{\ast}$ and $A\bullet B=AB+BA^{\ast}$ the new products of $A$ and $B$. In this paper, under some mild conditions on $\mathcal {A}$, it is shown that a map $Φ:\mathcal {A}\rightarrow \mathcal {A}$ satisfies $Φ([A\bullet B, C]_{*})=[Φ(A)\bullet B, C]_{*}+[A\bullet Φ(B), C]_{*}+[A\bullet B, Φ(C)]_{*}$ for all $A, B,C\in\mathcal {A}$ if and only if $Φ$ is an additive $*-$derivation. In particular, we apply the above result to prime $\ast$-algebras, von Neumann algebras with no central summands of t…
In the present paper we introduce and investigate the notion of 2-local linear map on vector spaces. A sufficient condition is obtained for linearity of a 2-local linear map on finite dimensional vector spaces. Based on this result we prove that every 2-local derivation on a finite dimensional formally real Jordan algebra is a derivation. Also we show that every 2-local 1-automorphism (i.e. implemented by single symmetries) of mentioned Jordan algebras is an automorphism.
We develop a cohomology theory for Jordan triples, including the infinite dimensional ones, by means of the cohomology of TKK Lie algebras. This enables us to apply Lie cohomological results to the setting of Jordan triples. Some preliminary results for von Neumann algebras are obtained.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ be two factor von Neumann algebras and $η$ be a non-zero complex number. A nonlinear bijective map $ϕ:\mathcal A\rightarrow\mathcal B$ has been demonstrated to satisfy $$ϕ([A,B]_{*}^η\diamond_η C)=[ϕ(A),ϕ(B)]_{*}^η\diamond_ηϕ(C)$$ for all $A,B,C\in\mathcal A.$ If $η=1,$ then $ϕ$ is a linear $*$-isomorphism, a conjugate linear $*$-isomorphism, the negative of a linear $*$-isomorphism, or the negative of a conjugate linear $*$-isomorphism. If $η\neq 1$ and satisfies $ϕ(I)=1,$ then $ϕ$ is either a linear $*$-isomorphism or a conjugate linear $*$-isomorphism.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a $*$-algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ be a $*$-$\mathcal A$-bimodule, we study the local properties of $*$-derivations and $*$-Jordan derivations from $\mathcal{A}$ into $\mathcal{M}$ under the following orthogonality conditions on elements in $\mathcal A$: $ab^*=0$, $ab^*+b^*a=0$ and $ab^*=b^*a=0$. We characterize the mappings on zero product determined algebras and zero Jordan product determined algebras. Moreover, we give some applications on $C^*$-algebras, group algebra, matrix algebras, algebras of locally measurable operators and von Neumann algebras.
Let $\A$ be a Banach algebra with unity $\textbf{1}$ and $ \M $ be a unital Banach left $ \A $-module. let $ δ: \A \rightarrow \M$ be a continuous linear map with the property that \[ a,b\in \A, \quad ab+ba=z \Rightarrow 2aδ(b)+2bδ(a)=δ(z), \] where $z\in \A$. In this article, first we characterize $δ$ for $z=\textbf{1}$. Then we consider the case $\A=\M=Alg \mathcal{L}$, where $Alg \mathcal{L}$ is areflexive algebra on a Hilbert space $ \Hh $ and $z=P$ is a non-triavial idempotent in $\A$ with $P(\Hh) \in \mathcal{L}$ and describe $δ$. Finally we apply the main results to $CSL$-algebras, irre…
This paper is an elaborated version of the material presented by the author in a three hour minicourse at "V International Course of Mathematical Analysis in Andalusia," Almeria, Spain, September 12-16, 2011. Part I is devoted to an exposition of the properties of derivations on various algebras and triple systems in finite and infinite dimensions, the primary questions addressed being whether the derivation is automatically continuous and to what extent it is an inner derivation. Part II discusses cohomology theory of algebras and triple systems, in both finite and infinite dimensions. Althou…
Let ${\mathcal{T}}$ be a triangular algebra. We say that $D=\{D_{n}: n\in N\}\subseteq L({\mathcal{T}})$ is a Jordan higher derivable mapping at $G$ if $D_{n}(ST+TS)=\sum_{i+j=n}(D_{i}(S)D_{j}(T)+D_{i}(T)D_{j}(S))$ for any $S,T\in {\mathcal{T}}$ with $ST=G$. An element $G\in {\mathcal{T}}$ is called a Jordan higher all-derivable point of ${\mathcal{T}}$ if every Jordan higher derivable linear mapping $D=\{D_{n}\}_{n\in N}$ at $G$ is a higher derivation. In this paper, under some mild conditions on ${\mathcal{T}}$, we prove that some elements of ${\mathcal{T}}$ are Jordan higher all-derivable p…
We study when a local triple derivation on a real JB*-triple is a triple derivation. We find an example of a (real linear) local triple derivation on a rank-one Cartan factor of type I which is not a triple derivation. On the other hand, we find sufficient conditions on a real JB*-triple E to guarantee that every local triple derivation on E is a triple derivation.
Let $\mathcal{N}$ be a non-trivial and complete nest on a Hilbert space $H$. Suppose $d=\{d_n: n\in N\}$ is a group of linear mappings from Alg$\mathcal{N}$ into itself. We say that $d=\{d_n: n\in N\}$ is a Jordan higher derivable mapping at a given point $G$ if $d_{n}(ST+ST)=\sum\limits_{i+j=n}\{d_{i}(S)d_{j}(T)+d_{j}(T)d_{i}(S)\}$ for any $S,T\in Alg \mathcal{N}$ with $ST=G$. An element $G\in Alg \mathcal{N}$ is called a Jordan higher all-derivable point if every Jordan higher derivable mapping at $G$ is a higher derivation. In this paper, we mainly prove that any given point $G$ of Alg$\mat…
We prove new results on generalized derivations on C$^*$-algebras. By considering the triple product $\{a,b,c\} =2^{-1} (a b^* c + c b^* a)$, we introduce the study of linear maps which are triple derivations or triple homomorphisms at a point. We prove that a continuous linear $T$ map on a unital C$^*$-algebra is a generalized derivation whenever it is a triple derivation at the unit element. If we additionally assume $T(1)=0,$ then $T$ is a $^*$-derivation and a triple derivation. Furthermore, a continuous linear map on a unital C$^*$-algebra which is a triple derivation at the unit element …
We prove that every weak-local triple derivation on a JB$^*$-triple $E$ (i.e. a linear map $T: E\to E$ such that for each $ϕ\in E^*$ and each $a\in E$, there exists a triple derivation $δ_{a,ϕ} : E\to E$, depending on $ϕ$ and $a$, such that $ϕT(a) = ϕδ_{a,ϕ} (a)$) is a (continuous) triple derivation.
It is well known that every derivation of a von Neumann algebra into itself is an inner derivation and that every derivation of a von Neumann algebra into its predual is inner. It is less well known that every triple derivation (defined below) of a von Neumann algebra into itself is an inner triple derivation. We examine to what extent all triple derivations of a von Neumann algebra into its predual are inner. This rarely happens but it comes close. We prove a (triple) cohomological characterization of finite factors and a zero-one law for factors. Namely, we show that for any factor, the linea…
Continuing our study of spectral triples on quantum domains, we look at unbounded invariant and covariant derivations in the quantum annulus. In particular, we investigate whether such derivations can be implemented by operators with compact parametrices, a necessary condition in the definition of a spectral triple.
We prove that every {\rm(}not necessarily linear nor continuous{\rm)} 2-local triple derivation on a von Neumann algebra $M$ is a triple derivation, equivalently, the set Der$_{t} (M)$, of all triple derivations on $M,$ is algebraically 2-reflexive in the set $\mathcal{M}(M)= M^M$ of all mappings from $M$ into $M$.
A well known result of Haagerup from 1983 states that every C*-algebra A is weakly amenable, that is, every (associative) derivation from A into its dual is inner. A Banach algebra B is said to be ternary weakly amenable if every continuous Jordan triple derivation from B into its dual is inner. We show that commutative C*-algebras are ternary weakly amenable, but that B(H) and K(H) are not, unless H is finite dimensional. More generally, we inaugurate the study of weak amenability for Jordan Banach triples, focussing on commutative JB*-triples and some Cartan factors.
We study unbounded invariant and covariant derivations on the quantum disk. In particular we answer the question whether such derivations come from operators with compact parametrices and thus can be used to define spectral triples.
We prove the existence of a linear isometric correspondence between the Banach space of all symmetric orthogonal forms on a JB$^*$-algebra $\mathcal{J}$ and the Banach space of all purely Jordan generalized derivations from $\mathcal{J}$ into $\mathcal{J}^*$. We also establish the existence of a similar linear isometric correspondence between the Banach spaces of all anti-symmetric orthogonal forms on $\mathcal{J}$, and of all Lie Jordan derivations from $\mathcal{J}$ into $\mathcal{J}^*$.
Let d be a linear mapping from a unital Banach algebra A into a unital left A-module M, and w in Z(A) be a left separating point of M. We show that the following three conditions are equivalent: (i) d is a Jordan left derivation; (ii) d is left derivable at w; (iii) d is Jordan left derivable at w. Let A be a Banach algebra with the property (B), and M be a Banach left A-module. We consider the relations between generalized (Jordan) left derivations and (Jordan) left derivable mappings at zero from A into M.
In a first result we prove that every continuous local triple derivation on a JB$^*$-triple is a triple derivation. We also give an automatic continuity result, that is, we show that local triple derivations on a JB$^*$-triple are continuous even if not assumed a priori to be so. In particular every local triple derivation on a C$^*$-algebra is a triple derivation. We also explore the connections between (bounded local) triple derivations and generalised (Jordan) derivations on a C$^*$-algebra.
Let \(\mathcal{A}\) be a unital Banach algebra such that any Jordan derivation from \(\mathcal{A}\) into any \(\mathcal{A}\)-bimodule \(\mathcal{M}\) is a derivation. We prove that any 2-local derivation from the algebra $M_n(\mathcal{A})$ into $M_n(\mathcal{M})$ $(n\geq 3)$ is a derivation. We apply this result to show that any 2-local derivation on the algebra of locally measurable operators affiliated with a von Neumann algebra without direct abelian summands is a derivation.
Let $\mathcal{U}=\left[ \begin{array}{cc} \mathcal{A} & \mathcal{M} \mathcal{N}& \mathcal{B} \end{array} \right]$ be a generalized matrix ring, where $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ are 2-torsion free. We prove that if $ϕ:\mathcal{U}\rightarrow \mathcal{U}$ is an additive mapping such that $ϕ(U)\circ V+U\circ ϕ(V)=0$ whenever $UV=VU=0,$ then $ϕ=δ+η$, where $δ$ is a Jordan derivation and $η$ is a multiplier. As its applications, we prove that the similar conclusion remains valid on full matrix algebras, unital prime rings with a nontrivial idempotent, unital standard operator algebras, CDCSL al…
We prove that every 2-local derivation from the algebra $M_n(\mathcal{A})(n>2)$ into its bimodule $M_n(\mathcal{M})$ is a derivation, where $\mathcal{A}$ is a unital Banach algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ is a unital $\mathcal{A}$-bimodule such that each Jordan derivation from $\mathcal{A}$ into $\mathcal{M}$ is an inner derivation, and that every 2-local derivation on a C*-algebra with a faithful traceable representation is a derivation. We also characterize local and 2-local Lie derivations on some algebras such as von Neumann algebras, nest algebras, Jiang-Su algebra and UHF algebras.
We prove that every bounded local triple derivation on a unital C*-algebra is a triple derivation. A similar statement is established in the category of unital JB*-algebras.
We prove a Jordan version of Dorofeev's boundedness theorem for completely additive measues and use it to show that every (not necessarily linear nor continuous) 2-local triple derivation on a continuous JBW*-triple is a triple derivation.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a unital algebra, $δ$ be a linear mapping from $\mathcal{A}$ into itself and $m$, $n$ be fixed integers. We call $δ$ an (\textit{m, n})-derivable mapping at $Z$, if $mδ(AB)+nδ(BA)=mδ(A)B+mAδ(B)+nδ(B)A+nBδ(A)$ for all $A, B\in \mathcal{A}$ with $AB=Z$. In this paper, (\textit{m, n})-derivable mappings at 0 (resp. $I_\mathcal{A}\oplus0$, $I$) on generalized matrix algebras are characterized. We also study (\textit{m, n})-derivable mappings at 0 on CSL algebras. We reveal the relationship between this kind of mappings with Lie derivations, Jordan derivations and derivations.
Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a $2$-torsion free commutative ring with unity, $X$ a locally finite pre-ordered set and $I(X,\mathcal{R})$ the incidence algebra of $X$ over $\mathcal{R}$. If $X$ consists of a finite number of connected components, we prove in this paper that every Lie triple derivation of $I(X,\mathcal{R})$ is proper.
A linear mapping $T$ on a JB$^*$-triple is called triple derivable at orthogonal pairs if for every $a,b,c\in E$ with $a\perp b$ we have $$0 = \{T(a), b,c\} + \{a,T(b),c\}+\{a,b,T(c)\}.$$ We prove that for each bounded linear mapping $T$ on a JB$^*$-algebra $A$ the following assertions are equivalent: $(a)$ $T$ is triple derivable at zero; $(b)$ $T$ is triple derivable at orthogonal elements; $(c)$ There exists a Jordan $^*$-derivation $D:A\to A^{**}$, a central element $ξ\in A^{**}_{sa},$ and an anti-symmetric element $η$ in the multiplier algebra of $A$, such that $$ T(a) = D(a) + ξ\circ a +…
