We prove that, given $2<p<\infty$, the Fourier coefficients of functions in $L_2(\mathbb{T}, \lvert t \rvert^{1-2/p}\, dt)$ belong to $\ell_p$, and that, given $1<p<2$, the Fourier series of sequences in $\ell_p$ belong $L_2(\mathbb{T}, \lvert t \rvert^{2/p-1}\, dt)$. Then, we apply these results to the study of conditional Schauder bases and conditional almost greedy bases in Banach spaces. Specifically, we prove that, for every $1<p<\infty$ and every $0\le α<1$, there is a Schauder basis of $\ell_p$ whose conditionality constants grow as $(m^α)_{m=1}^\infty$, and there is an almost greedy basis of $\ell_p$ whose conditionality constants grow as $((\log m)^α)_{m=2}^\infty$.
We show that, for quasi-greedy bases in Hilbert spaces, the associated conditionality constants grow at most as $O(\log N)^{1-ε}$, for some $ε>0$, answering a question by Temlyakov. We show the optimality of this bound with an explicit construction, based on a refinement of the method of Olevskii. This construction leads to other examples of quasi-greedy bases with large $k_N$ in Banach spaces, which are of independent interest.
It is known that for a conditional quasi-greedy basis $\mathcal{B}$ in a Banach space $\mathbb{X}$, the associated sequence $(k_{m}[\mathcal{B}])_{m=1}^{\infty}$ of its conditionality constants verifies the estimate $k_{m}[\mathcal{B}]=\mathcal{O}(\log m)$ and that if the reverse inequality $\log m =\mathcal{O}(k_m[\mathcal{B}])$ holds then $\mathbb{X}$ is non-superreflexive. However, in the existing literature one finds very few instances of non-superreflexive spaces possessing quasi-greedy basis with conditionality constants as large as possible. Our goal in this article is to fill this gap.…
Indeed, it is known that a quasi-greedy basis in a superreflexive quasi-Banach space fulfils the estimate $k_{m}[\mathcal{B}]=\mathcal{O}(\log m)^{1-ε}$ for some $ε>0$. For a conditional quasi-greedy basis $\mathcal{B}$ in a Banach space the associated conditionality constants $k_{m}[\mathcal{B}]$ verify the estimate $k_{m}[\mathcal{B}]=\mathcal{O}(\log m)$. Answering a question raised by Temlyakov, Yang, and Ye, several authors have studied whether this bound can be improved when we consider quasi-greedy bases in some special class of spaces. It is known that every quasi-greedy basis in a superreflexive Banach space verifies $k_{m}[\mathcal{B}]=(\log m)^{1-ε}$ for some $0<ε<1$, and this is optimal. Our first goal in this paper will be to fill the gap in betw…
We construct for each $0<p\le 1$ an infinite collection of subspaces of $\ell_p$ that extend the example from [J. Lindenstrauss, On a certain subspace of $\ell_{1}$, Bull. Acad. Polon. Sci. Sér. Sci. Math. Astronom. Phys. 12 (1964), 539-542] of a subspace of $\ell_{1}$ with no unconditional basis. The structure of this new class of $p$-Banach spaces is analyzed and some applications to the general theory of $\mathcal{L}_{p}$-spaces for $0<p<1$ are provided. The introduction of these spaces serves the purpose to develop the theory of conditional quasi-greedy bases in $p$-Banach spaces for $p<1$…
We prove various extensions of the Coifman-Rubio de Francia-Semmes multiplier theorem to operator-valued multipliers on Banach function spaces. Our results involve a new boundedness condition on sets of operators which we call $\ell^{r}(\ell^{s})$-boundedness, which implies $\mathcal{R}$-boundedness in many cases. The proofs are based on new Littlewood-Paley-Rubio de Francia-type estimates in Banach function spaces which were recently obtained by the authors.
We consider Fourier transform of vector-valued functions on a locally compact group $G$, which take value in a Banach space $X$, and are square-integrable in Bochner sense. If $G$ is a finite group then Fourier transform is a bounded operator. If $G$ is an infinite group then Fourier transform $F: L_2(G,X)\to L_2(\widehat G,X)$ is a bounded operator if and only if Banach space $X$ is isomorphic to a Hilbert one.
We prove the boundedness of a general class of multipliers and Fourier multipliers, in particular of the Hilbert transform, on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We also deduce boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces.
We study Fourier convolution operators $W^0(a)$ with symbols equivalent to zero at infinity on a separable Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$ such that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the limit operators of $W^0(a)$ are all equal to zero.
Let ${\mathcal L} A(H)$ be the Lebesgue-Fourier space of a hypergroup $H$ considered as a Banach space on $H$. In addition ${\mathcal L}A(H)$ is a Banach algebra with the multiplication inherited from $L^1(H)$. Moreover If $H$ is a regular Fourier hypergroup, ${\mathcal L}A(H)$ is a Banach algebra with pointwise multiplication. We study the amenability and character amenability of these two Banach algebras.
Let $X(\mathbb{R})$ be a separable Banach function space such that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ is bounded on $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$. Suppose $a$ is a Fourier multiplier on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the Fourier convolution operator $W^0(a)$ with symbol $a$ is compact on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ if and only if $a=0$. This result implies that nontrivial Fourier convolution operators on Lebesgue spaces with Muckenhoupt weights are never compact.
In this paper, we define $A_{\vartheta _{1},\vartheta _{2}}^{p,1,q,r}\left(G\right) $ to be space of all functions in $\left( L_{\vartheta_{1}}^{p},\ell ^{1}\right) $ whose Fourier transforms belong to $\left( L_{\vartheta _{2}}^{q},\ell ^{r}\right) .$ Moreover, we consider the basic and advance properties of this space including Banach algebra, translation invariant, Banach module, a generalized type of Segal algebra etc. Also, we study some inclusions, compact embeddings in sense to weights and further discuss multipliers of this space.
Let $A_p(G)$ denote the Figa-Talamanca-Herz Banach Algebra of the locally compact group}} $G$, thus $A_2(G)$ {\it{is the Fourier Algebra of $G$. If $G$ is commutative then $A_2(G)=L^1(\hat{G})^\wedge$. Let $A_p^r(G)=A_p\cap L^r(G)$ with norm $\|u\|_{A_p^r}=\| u\|_{A_p}+\| u\|_{L^r}$.We investigate for which $p$, $r$, and $G$ do the Banach algebras $A_p^r(G)$ {\it{have the Banach space geometric properties: The Radon-Nikodym Property (RNP), the Schur Property (SP) or the Dunford-Pettis Property (DPP). The results are new even if $G=R$ (the real line) or $G=Z$ (the additive integers).
The aim of this work is to study the existence of a periodic solutions of integro-differential equations d dt [x(t)-- L(x t)] = A[x(t)-- L(x t)]+ G(x t)+ t --$\infty$ a(t-- s)x(s)ds+ f (t), (0 $\le$ t $\le$ 2$π$) with the periodic condition x(0) = x(2$π$), where a $\in$ L 1 (R +). Our approach is based on the M-boundedness of linear operators, Fourier type, B s p,q-multipliers and Besov spaces.
In this paper we introduce the notion of weak differential subordination for martingales and show that a Banach space $X$ is a UMD Banach space if and only if for all $p\in (1,\infty)$ and all purely discontinuous $X$-valued martingales $M$ and $N$ such that $N$ is weakly differentially subordinated to $M$, one has the estimate $\mathbb E \|N_{\infty}\|^p \leq C_p\mathbb E \|M_{\infty}\|^p$. As a corollary we derive the sharp estimate for the norms of a broad class of even Fourier multipliers, which includes e.g. the second order Riesz transforms.
We generalize the results for Banach algebras of pseudodifferential operators obtained by Gröchenig and Rzeszotnik in [24] to quasi-algebras of Fourier integral operators. Namely, we introduce quasi-Banach algebras of symbol classes for Fourier integral operators that we call generalized metaplectic operators, including pseudodifferential operators. This terminology stems from the pioneering work on Wiener algebras of Fourier integral operators [11], which we generalize to our framework. This theory finds applications in the study of evolution equations such as the Cauchy problem for the Schrö…
The aim of this work is to study the existence of a periodic solutions of nth-order differential equations with delay d dt x(t) + d 2 dt 2 x(t) + d 3 dt 3 x(t) + ... + d n dt n x(t) = Ax(t) + L(xt) + f (t). Our approach is based on the M-boundedness of linear operators, Fourier type, B s p,q-multipliers and Besov spaces.
In this short note, we prove that the subspace of radial multipliers is contractively complemented in the space of Fourier multipliers on the Bochner space $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n,X)$ where $X$ is a Banach space and where $1 \leq p <\infty$. Moreover, if $X = \mathbb{C}$, then this complementation preserves the positivity of multipliers.
Let $X$ be a Banach space. It is proved that an analogue of the Rubio de Francia square function estimate for partial sums of the Fourier series of $X$-valued functions holds true for all disjoint collections of subintervals of the set of integers of equal length and for all exponents $p$ greater or equal than 2 if and only if the space $X$ is a UMD space of type 2. The same criterion is obtained for the case of subintervals of the real line and Fourier integrals instead of Fourier series.
Let $A_p(G)$ denote the Figa-Talamanca-Herz Banach Algebra of the locally compact group $G$, thus $A_2(G)$ is the Fourier Algebra of $G$. If $G$ is commutative then $A_2(G)=L^1(\hat{G}){\hat{}}$. Let $A^r_p(G)=A_p\cap L^r(G)$ with norm $||u||_{A_p^r}=||u||_{A_p}+||u||_{L^r}$. We investigate a property which insures not only existence of solutions to optimization problems but moreover, facility in testing that an algorithm converges to such solutions namely the RNP. Theorem(a): If $G$ is weakly amenable then $A_p^r$ is a dual Banach space with RNP if $1\leq r\leq p'$. This does not hold if $G=S…
We show that the analyticity of semigroups $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of selfadjoint contractive Fourier multipliers on $L^p$-spaces of compact abelian groups is preserved by the tensorisation of the identity operator of a Banach space for a large class of K-convex Banach spaces, answering partially a conjecture of Pisier. We also give versions of this result for some semigroups of Schur multipliers and Fourier multipliers on noncommutative $L^p$-spaces. Finally, we give a precise description of semigroups of Schur multipliers to which the result of this paper can be applied.
We introduce the wave-front set for distributions with respect to Fourier images of weighted translation invariant Banach function spaces. We prove that usual mapping properties for pseudo-differential operators hold in the context of such wave-front sets.
In this paper we give an example of a Banach algebra $A$ and a closed ideal $I$ of $A$ such that the multiplier algebra of $I$ is equal to $A$ but $I$ does not have any bounded approximate identity. In the case that $I$ has an approximate identity, we give a necessary condition on $I$ for which $A=\mathcal{M}(I)$, where $\mathcal{M}(I)$ denotes the multiplier algebra of $I$. Finally, as a corollary of our results, we show that the Fourier algebra of an amenable group is strictly dense in the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra.
Here a new condition for the geometry of Banach spaces is introduced and the operator--valued Fourier multiplier theorems in weighted Besov spaces are obtained. Particularly, connections between the geometry of Banach spaces and Hormander-Mikhlin conditions are established. As an application of main results the regularity properties of degenerate elliptic differential operator equations are investigated.
We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a reflexive Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$, then the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ has an unconditional wavelet basis. As a consequence of the existence of a Schauder basis in $X(\mathbb{R})$, we prove that the ideal of compact operators $\mathcal{K}(X(\mathbb{R}))$ on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ is contained in the Banach algebra generated by all operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\in C(\dot{\mathbb{R}})$, where $\dot{\mathbb{R}}=\mathbb{R}\cup\{\infty\}$, and by all Fouri…
Let $Φ$ be a $C^*$-subalgebra of $L^\infty(\mathbb{R})$ and $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ be the Banach algebra of slowly oscillating Fourier multipliers on a Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the intersection of the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\inΦ$ and the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the Fourier convolution operators $W^0(b)$ with symbols in $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ coincides with the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication by constants.
We characterize Hilbert spaces in the class of all Banach spaces using Fourier transform of vector-valued functions over the field $Q_p$ of $p$-adic numbers. Precisely, Banach space $X$ is isomorphic to a Hilbert one if and only if Fourier transform $F: L_2(Q_p,X)\to L_2(Q_p,X)$ in space of functions, which are square-integrable in Bochner sense and take value in $X$, is a bounded operator.
Consider two continuous linear operators $T\colon X_1(μ)\to Y_1(ν)$ and $S\colon X_2(μ)\to Y_2(ν)$ between Banach function spaces related to different $σ$-finite measures $μ$ and $ν$. We characterize by means of weighted norm inequalities when $T$ can be strongly factored through $S$, that is, when there exist functions $g$ and $h$ such that $T(f)=gS(hf)$ for all $f\in X_1(μ)$. For the case of spaces with Schauder basis our characterization can be improved, as we show when $S$ is for instance the Fourier operator, or the Cesàro operator. Our aim is to study the case when the map $T$ is besides…
We introduce and study a new class of translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of ultradistributions. These spaces show stability under Fourier transform and tensor products; furthermore, they have a natural Banach convolution module structure over a certain associated Beurling algebra, as well as a Banach multiplication module structure over an associated Wiener-Beurling algebra. We also investigate a new class of modulation spaces, the Banach spaces of ultradistributions $\mathcal{M}^F$ on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, associated to translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of ultradistributi…
Let $H$ be an ultraspherical hypergroup associated to a locally compact group $ G $ and let $A(H)$ be the Fourier algebra of $H$. For a left Banach $A(H)$-submodule $X$ of $VN(H)$, define $Q_X$ to be the norm closure of the linear span of the set $\{uf: u\in A(H), f\in X\}$ in $B_{A(H)}(A(H), X^*)^*$. We will show that $B_{A(H)}(A(H), X^*)$ is a dual Banach space with predual $Q_X$, we characterize $Q_X$ in terms of elements in $A(H)$ and $ X$. Applications obtained on the multiplier algebra $ M(A(H))$ of the Fourier algebra $ A(H)$. In particular, we prove that $ G $ is amenable if and only i…
We show that the analyticity of semigroups $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of (not necessarily positive) selfadjoint contractive Fourier multipliers on $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces of any abelian locally compact group is preserved by the tensorisation of the identity operator $\mathrm{Id}_X$ of a Banach space $X$ for a large class of K-convex Banach spaces, answering partially a conjecture of Pisier. The result is even new for semigroups of Fourier multipliers acting on $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$. The proof relies on the use of noncommutative Banach spaces and we give a more general result for semigroups of Fou…
As is well-know, on an Arens regular Banach algebra all continuous functionals are weakly almost periodic. In this paper we show that $\ell^1$-bases which approximate upper and lower triangles of products of elements in the algebra produce large sets of functionals that are not weakly almost periodic. This leads to criteria for extreme non-Arens regularity of Banach algebras in the sense of Granirer. We find in particular that bounded approximate identities (bai's) and bounded nets converging to invariance (TI-nets) both fall into this approach, suggesting that this is indeed the main tool beh…
In 1979 Pisier proved remarkably that a sequence of independent and identically distributed standard Gaussian random variables determines, via random Fourier series, a homogeneous Banach algebra $\mathscr{P}$ strictly contained in $C(\mathbb{T})$, the class of continuous functions on the unit circle $\mathbb{T}$ and strictly containing the classical Wiener algebra $\mathbb{A}(\mathbb{T})$, that is, $\mathbb{A}(\mathbb{T}) \subsetneqq \mathscr{P} \subsetneqq C(\mathbb{T}).$ This improved some previous results obtained by Zafran in solving a long-standing problem raised by Katznelson. In this pa…
Let $G$ be an infinite locally compact abelian group. If $X$ is Banach space, we show that if every bounded Fourier multiplier $T$ on $L^2(G)$ has the property that $T\ot Id_X$ is bounded on $L^2(G,X)$ then the Banach space $X$ is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. Moreover, if $1<p<\infty$, $p\not=2$, we prove that there exists a bounded Fourier multiplier on $L^p(G)$ which is not completely bounded. Finally, we examine unconditionality from the point of view of Schur multipliers. More precisely, we give several necessary and sufficient conditions to determine if an operator space is completely i…
The parabolic algebra was introduced by Katavolos and Power, in 1997, as the operator algebra acting on $L^2(R)$ that is weakly generated by the translation and multiplication semigroups. In particular, they proved that this algebra is reflexive and is equal to the Fourier binest algebra, that is, to the algebra of operators that leave invariant the subspaces of the Volterra nest and its analytic counterpart. We prove that a similar result holds for the corresponding algebras acting on $L^p(R)$, where $1<p<\infty$. It is also shown that the reflexive closures of the Fourier binests on $L^p(R)$…
The Fourier algebra of the affine group of the real line has a natural identification, as a Banach space, with the space of trace-class operators on $L^2({\mathbb R}^\times, dt/ |t|)$. In this paper we study the "dual convolution product" of trace-class operators that corresponds to pointwise product in the Fourier algebra. Answering a question raised in work of Eymard and Terp, we provide an intrinsic description of this operation which does not rely on the identification with the Fourier algebra, and obtain a similar result for the connected component of this affine group. In both cases we c…
The purpose of this article is to present the second type fundamental relationship between the generalized Fourier--Feynman transform and the generalized convolution product on Wiener space. The relationships in this article are also natural extensions (to the case on an infinite dimensional Banach space) of the structure which exists between the Fourier transform and the convolution of functions on Euclidean spaces.
The purpose of this paper is to construct a new class of separable Banach spaces $\K^p[\mathbb{B}], \; 1\leq p \leq \infty$. Each of these spaces contain the $ \mcL^p[\mathbb{B}] $ spaces, as well as the space $\mfM[\R^\iy]$, of finitely additive measures as dense continuous compact embeddings. These spaces are of interest because they also contain the Henstock-Kurzweil integrable functions on $\mathbb{B}$. Finally, we offer a interesting approach to the Fourier transform on $\K^p[\mathbb{B}].$
We present a characterization of hyperbolicity for strongly continuous semigroups on Banach spaces in terms of Fourier multiplier properties of the resolvent of the generator. Hyperbolicity with respect to classical solutions is also considered. Our approach unifies and simplifies the M. Kaashoek-- S. Verduyn Lunel theory and multiplier-type results previously obtained by S. Clark, M. Hieber, S. Montgomery-Smith, F. Räbiger, T. Randolph, and L. Weis.
In analogy with the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra of a group, we associate to a unital discrete twisted C*-dynamical system a Banach algebra whose elements are coefficients of equivariants representations of the system. Building upon our previous work, we show that this Fourier-Stieltjes algebra embeds continuously in the Banach algebra of completely bounded multipliers of the (reduced or full) C*-crossed product of the system. We also introduce a notion of positive definiteness and prove a Gelfand-Raikov type theorem allowing us to describe the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra of a system in a more intr…
Motivated by the definition of a semigroup compactification of a locally compact group and a large collection of examples, we introduce the notion of an (operator) "homogeneous left dual Banach algebra" (HLDBA) over a (completely contractive) Banach algebra $A$. We prove a Gelfand-type representation theorem showing that every HLDBA over $A$ has a concrete realization as an (operator) homogeneous left Arens product algebra: the dual of a subspace of $A^*$ with a compatible (matrix) norm and a type of left Arens product ${\scriptscriptstyle \square}$. Examples include all left Arens product alg…
In this paper we consider Fourier multiplier operators between vector-valued Besov spaces with different integrability exponents $p$ and $q$, which depend on the type $p$ and cotype $q$ of the underlying Banach spaces. In a previous paper we considered $L^p$-$L^q$-multiplier theorems. In the current paper we show that in the Besov scale one can obtain results with optimal integrability exponents. Moreover, we derive a sharp result in the $L^p$-$L^q$-setting as well. We consider operator-valued multipliers without smoothness assumptions. The results are based on a Fourier multiplier theorem for…
The main result of this paper is a far reaching generalization of the completeness result given by V.~Katsnelson in a recent paper [35]. Instead of just using a collection of dilated Gaussians it is shown that the key steps of an earlier paper [27] by the authors, combined with the use of Tauberian conditions (i.e. the non-vanishing of the Fourier transform) allow us to show that the linear span of the translates of a single function $g \in {\boldsymbol{\mathcal {S}({\mathbb{R}}^d)}}$ is a dense subspace of any Banach space satisfying certain double invariance properties. In fact, a much stron…
In this note we extend D. Singh and A. A. W. Mehanna's invariant subspace theorem for $RH^1$ (the real Banach space of analytic functions in $H^1$ with real Taylor coefficients) to the simply invariant subspaces of $RL^1$ (the real Banach space of functions in $L^1$ with real Fourier coefficients).
It is proved that the unital Banach algebra of almost periodic functions of several variables with Bohr-Fourier spectrum in a given additive semigroup is an Hermite ring. The same property holds for the Wiener algebra of functions that in addition have absolutely convergent Bohr-Fourier series. As applications of the Hermite property of these algebras, we study factorizations of Wiener--Hopf type of rectangular matrix functions and the Toeplitz corona problem in the context of almost periodic functions of several variables.
This paper is devoted to studying the extrapolation theory of Rubio de Francia on general function spaces. We present endpoint extrapolation results including $A_1$, $A_p$, and $A_\infty$ extrapolation in the context of Banach function spaces, and also on modular spaces. We also include several applications that can be easily obtained using extrapolation: local decay estimates for various operators, Coifman--Fefferman inequalities that can be used to show some known sharp $A_1$ inequalities, Muckenhoupt--Wheeden and Sawyer's conjectures are also presented for many operators, which go beyond Ca…
In this paper we study the vector-valued analogues of several inequalities for the Fourier transform. In particular, we consider the inequalities of Hausdorff--Young, Hardy--Littlewood, Paley, Pitt, Bochkarev and Zygmund. The Pitt inequalities include the Hausdorff--Young and Hardy--Littlewood inequalities and state that the Fourier transform is bounded from $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{βp})$ into $L^q(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{-γq})$ under certain condition on $p,q,β$ and $γ$. Vector-valued analogues are derived under geometric conditions on the underlying Banach space such as Fourier type and rela…
