We develop an analogue of Eisenbud-Floystad-Schreyer's Tate resolutions for toric varieties. Our construction, which is given by a noncommutative analogue of a Fourier- Mukai transform, works quite generally and provides a new perspective on the relationship between Tate resolutions and Beilinson's resolution of the diagonal. We also develop a Beilinson-type resolution of the diagonal for toric varieties.
We prove the Tate conjecture for divisor classes and the Mumford-Tate conjecture for the cohomology in degree 2 for varieties with $h^{2,0}=1$ over a finitely generated field of characteristic 0, under a mild assumption on their moduli. As an application of this general result, we prove the Tate and Mumford-Tate conjectures for some classes of algebraic surfaces with $p_g=1$.
We construct a 3-dimensional complete intersection toric variety on which the subadditivity formula doesn't hold, answering negatively a question by Takagi and Watanabe. A combinatorial proof of the subadditivity formula on 2-dimensional normal toric varieties is also provided.
We describe a class of affine toric varieties $V$ that are set-theoretically minimally defined by codim $V+1$ binomial equations over fields of any characteristic.
Let $I_M$ and $I_N$ be defining ideals of toric varieties such that $I_M$ is a projection of $I_N$, i.e. $I_N \subseteq I_M$. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality $I_M=rad(I_N+(f_1,...,f_s))$, where $f_1,...,f_s$ belong to $I_M$. Also a method for finding toric varieties which are set-theoretic complete intersection is given. Finally we apply our method in the computation of the arithmetical rank of certain toric varieties and provide the defining equations of the above toric varieties.
We use cellular resolutions of monomial ideals to prove an analog of Hilbert's syzygy theorem for virtual resolutions of monomial ideals on smooth toric varieties.
We use Cox's description for sheaves on toric varieties and results about the local cohomology with respect to monomial ideals to give a characteristic free approach to vanishing results on arbitrary toric varieties. As an application, we give a proof of a strong form of Fujita's conjecture in the case of toric varieties. We also prove that every sheaf on a toric variety corresponds to a module over the homogeneous coordinate ring, generalizing Cox's result for the simplicial case.
We give an explicit description of the terms and differentials of the Tate resolution of sheaves arising from Segre embeddings of $¶^a\times¶^b$. We prove that the maps in this Tate resolution are either coming from Sylvester-type maps, or from Bezout-type maps arising from the so-called toric Jacobian.
We show that certain abelian varieties A have the property that for every Hodge structure V in the cohomology of A, every effective Tate twist of V occurs in the cohomology of some abelian variety. We deduce the general Hodge conjecture for certain non-simple abelian varieties of type IV.
Tate's theorem (Invent. Math. 1966)implies that the Tate conjecture holds for any abelian variety over a finite field whose Q_l-algebra of Tate classes is generated by those of degree 1. We construct families of abelian varieties over finite fields for which this condition fails, but for which we are nevertheless able to prove the Tate conjecture.
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over a field finitely generated over $\mathbb{Q}$. We show that the finiteness of the $\ell$-primary torsion subgroup of the higher Brauer group is a sufficient criterion for the Tate conjecture to hold. Furthermore, we extend methods for computations of transcendental Brauer groups to higher Brauer groups.
We study the Mumford--Tate conjecture for hyperkähler varieties. We show that the full conjecture holds for all varieties deformation equivalent to either an Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface or to O'Grady's ten dimensional example, and all of their self-products. For an arbitrary hyperkähler variety whose second Betti number is not 3, we prove the Mumford--Tate conjecture in every codimension under the assumption that the Künneth components in even degree of its André motive are abelian. Our results extend a theorem of André.
In two earlier articles, we proved that, if the Hodge conjecture is true for ALL CM abelian varieties over the complex numbers, then both the Tate conjecture and the standard conjectures are true for abelian varieties over finite fields. Here we rework the proofs so that they apply to a single abelian variety. As a consequence, we prove (unconditionally) that the Tate and standard conjectures are true for many abelian varieties over finite fields, including abelian varieties for which the algebra of Tate classes is not generated by divisor classes.
We prove the Mumford-Tate conjecture for those abelian varieties over number fields, whose simple factors of their adjoint Mumford-Tate groups have over $\dbR$ certain (products of) non-compact factors. In particular, we prove this conjecture for the orthogonal case ($B_n$ and $D_n^{\dbR}$ Shimura types). We construct embeddings of Shimura varieties of (whose adjoints are of prescribed abelian type) into unitary Shimura varieties. We also prove two general theorems involving Frobenius tori of abelian varieties over number fields.
In this paper we will prove that Tate conjecture of abelian varieties over finite field is equivalent to the finiteness of isomorphism classes of abelian varieties with a fixed dimension. We give a different approach with Zarhin's result.
Let X be a Mumford-Tate variety, i.e., a quotient of a Mumford-Tate domain D by a discrete subgroup. Mumford-Tate varieties are generalizations of Shimura varieties. We define the notion of a special subvariety Y in X (of Shimura type), and formulate necessary criteria for Y to be special. Our method consists in looking at finitely many compactified special curves C_i in Y, and testing whether the inclusion of the union of all C_i in Y satisfies certain properties. One of them is the so-called relative proportionality condition. In this paper, we give a new formulation of this numerical criter…
Relying on recent advances in the theory of motives we develope a general formalism for derived categories of motives with Q-coefficients on perfect (ind-)schemes. As an application we give a motivic refinement of Zhu's geometric Satake equivalence for Witt vector affine Grassmannians in this set-up.
We study toric degenerations of opposite Schubert and Richardson varieties inside degenerations of Grassmannians and flag varieties. These degenerations are parametrized by matching fields in the sense of Sturmfels and Zelevinsky. We construct so-called restricted matching field ideals whose generating sets are understood combinatorially through tableaux. We determine when these ideals are toric and coincide with Gröbner degenerations of Richardson varieties using the well established standard monomial theory for Grassmannians and flag varieties.
In this mostly expository note, we explain a proof of Tate's two conjectures [Tat65] for algebraic cycles of arbitrary codimension on certain products of elliptic curves and abelian surfaces over number fields.
Along the lines of Hodge and Tate conjectures, Beilinson conjectured that in the qth cohomology all the weight 2q Hodge cycles of a smooth complex variety and all the weight 2q Tate cycles of a smooth variety over a finitely generated field comes from the higher Chow groups. For product of curves and semiabelian varieties, Beilinson-Hodge conjecture was shown in a previous paper by the authors. Here both Beilinson-Hodge and Beilinson-Tate conjectures are shown to be true for varieties dominated by product of curves. We also show that lower weight Hodge cycles (resp. Tate cycles) are algebraic …
In this article we study the (cohomological) Hodge conjecture for singular varieties. We prove the conjecture for simple normal crossing varieties that can be embedded in a family where the Mumford-Tate group remains constant. We show how to produce such families. Furthermore, we show for varieties with worse singularities the conjecture can be expressed solely in terms of the algebraic classes.
We prove the Mumford--Tate conjecture for those abelian varieties over number fields whose extensions to C have attached adjoint Shimura varieties that are products of simple, adjoint Shimura varieties of certain Shimura types. In particular, we prove the conjecture for the orthogonal case (i.e., for the $B_n$ and $D_n^R$ Shimura types). As a main tool, we construct embeddings of Shimura varieties (whose adjoints are) of prescribed abelian type into unitary Shimura varieties of PEL type. These constructions implicitly classify the adjoints of Shimura varieties of PEL type.
We show that the moduli space of rank three toric vector bundles on smooth projective toric varieties satisfies Murphy's law, that is, every singularity type of finite type arises somewhere on this space.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety over a finitely generated field $K$ of characteristic~$0$ and fix an embedding $K \subset \mathbb{C}$. The Mumford--Tate conjecture is a precise way of saying that certain extra structure on the $\ell$-adic étale cohomology groups of~$X$ (namely, a Galois representation) and certain extra structure on the singular cohomology groups of~$X$ (namely, a Hodge structure) convey the same information. The main result of this paper says that if $A_1$ and~$A_2$ are abelian varieties (or abelian motives) over~$K$, and the Mumford--Tate conjecture holds for both~$A_…
We first construct explicit bases for the cotangent spaces at singular points on Hibi toric varieties, i.e., toric varieties associated to distributive lattices. We then determine the singular loci of these toric varieties.
We begin a systematic investigation of derived categories of smooth projective toric varieties defined over an arbitrary base field. We show that, in many cases, toric varieties admit full exceptional collections. Examples include all toric surfaces, all toric Fano 3-folds, some toric Fano 4-folds, the generalized del Pezzo varieties of Voskresenskii and Klyachko, and toric varieties associated to Weyl fans of type $A$. Our main technical tool is a completely general Galois descent result for exceptional collections of objects on (possibly non-toric) varieties over non-closed fields.
We prove a finiteness theorem for the first flat cohomology group of finite flat group schemes over integral normal proper varieties over finite fields. As a consequence, we can prove the invariance of the finiteness of the Tate-Shafarevich group of Abelian schemes over higher dimensional bases under isogenies and alterations over/of such bases for the $p$-part. Along the way, we generalize previous results on the Tate-Shafarevich group in this situation.
We totally classify the projective toric varieties whose canonical divisors are divisible by their dimensions. In Appendix, we show that Reid's toric Mori theory implies Mabuchi's characterization of the projective space for toric varieties.
We use homogeneous spectra of multigraded rings to construct toric embeddings of a large family of projective varieties which preserve some of the birational geometry of the underlying variety, generalizing the well-known construction associated to Mori Dream Spaces.
We describe the equivariant cobordism ring of smooth toric varieties. This equivariant description is used to compute the ordinary cobordism ring of such varieties.
The main purpose of this notes is to supplement the paper reid, which treated Minimal Model Program (also called Mori's Program) on toric varieties. We calculate lengths of negative extremal rays of toric varieties. As an application, we obtain a generalization of Fujita's conjecture for singular toric varieties. We also prove that every toric variety has a small projective toric $\bQ$-factorialization.
We explain a web of Sarkisov links that overlies the classification of Fano weighted projective spaces in dimensions 3 and 4, extending results of Prokhorov.
Let K be a number field and A an abelian variety over K. We are interested in the following conjecture of Morita: if the Mumford-Tate group of A does not contain unipotent Q-rational points then A has potentially good reduction at any discrete place of K. The Mumford-Tate group is an object of analytical nature whereas having good reduction is an arithmetical notion, linked to the ramification of Galois representations. This conjecture has been proved by Morita for particular abelian varieties with many endomorphisms (called of PEL type). Noot obtained results for abelian varieties without non…
Here are few notes on not necessarily normal toric varieties and resolution by toric blow-up. These notes are independent of, but in the same spirit as the earlier preprint arXiv:math.AG/0306221. That is, they focus on the fact that toric varieties are locally given by monoid algebras.
We generalized the construction of deformations of affine toric varieties of K. Altmann and our previous construction of deformations of weak Fano toric varieties to the case of arbitrary toric varieties by introducing the notion of Minkowski sum decompositions of polyhedral complexes. Our construction embeds the original toric variety into a higher dimensional toric variety where the image is given by a prime binomial complete intersection ideal in Cox homogeneous coordinates. The deformations are realized by families of complete intersections. For compact simplicial toric varieties with at w…
These notes survey some basic results in toric varieties over a field with examples and applications. A computer algebra package (written by the second author) is described which deals with both affine and projective toric varieties in any number of dimensions (written in both the software packages MAGMA and GAP). Among other things, the package implements a desingularization procedure for affine toric varieties, constructs some error-correcting codes associated with toric varieties, and computes the Riemann-Roch space of a divisor on a toric variety.
In this paper we use formal group rings to construct an algebraic model of the $T$-equivariant oriented cohomology of smooth toric varieties. Then we compare our model with known results of equivariant cohomology of toric varieties to justify our construction.
We introduce an algebraic method for describing the Hodge filtration of degenerating hypersurfaces in projective toric varieties. For this purpose, we show some fundamental properties of logarithmic differential forms on proper equivariant morphisms of toric varieties.
In this paper we prove criteria for a nonnormal toric variety to be flexible, to be rigid and to be almost rigid. For rigid and almost rigid toric varieties we describe the automorphism group explicitly.
In this paper, we investigate when there exists a wild hypersurface bundle over a smooth proper toric variety in positive characteristic. In particular, we determine the possibilities for toric varieties with Picard number at most three or toric Fano varieties of dimension at most four. Moreover, we can construct wild hypersurface bundles over them.
The goal of this paper is to define families of toric varieties and to study their properties. These families are locally trivial fibrations over some base, whose fibres are isomorphic to a fixed complete toric variety. The study is motivated by the occurence of such families in the context of gauged sigma models for toric varieties.
We describe the quantum cohomology rings of a class of toric varieties. The description includes, in addition to the (already known) ring presentations, the (new) analogues for toric varieties of the sorts of quantum Giambelli formulas which exist already for Grassmannian varieties, flag varieties, etc.
