Along the lines of Hodge and Tate conjectures, Beilinson conjectured that in the qth cohomology all the weight 2q Hodge cycles of a smooth complex variety and all the weight 2q Tate cycles of a smooth variety over a finitely generated field comes from the higher Chow groups. For product of curves and semiabelian varieties, Beilinson-Hodge conjecture was shown in a previous paper by the authors. Here both Beilinson-Hodge and Beilinson-Tate conjectures are shown to be true for varieties dominated by product of curves. We also show that lower weight Hodge cycles (resp. Tate cycles) are algebraic in these situations.
Beilinson conjectured that all rational cycles of type (q,q) on the qth cohomology of a smooth complex algebraic variety should come from motivic cohomology. The purpose of this note is to prove this when the variety is a semiabelian variety or a product of curves. The proof is based on the study of invariants under the Mumford-Tate group.
In 1968 Tate introduced a new approach to residues on algebraic curves, based on a certain ring of operators that acts on the completion at a point of the function field of the curve. This approach was generalized to higher dimensional algebraic varieties by Beilinson in 1980. However Beilinson's paper had very few details, and his operator-theoretic construction remained cryptic for many years. Currently there is a renewed interest in the Beilinson-Tate approach to residues in higher dimensions. Our paper presents a variant of Beilinson's operator-theoretic construction. We consider an n-dime…
Tate gave a famous construction of the residue symbol on curves by using some non-commutative operator algebra in the context of algebraic geometry. We explain Beilinson's multidimensional generalization, which is not so well-documented in the literature. We provide a new approach using Hochschild homology.
In this paper, we study an analogue of the Tate conjecture for $K_2$ of U, the complement of split multiplicative fibers in an elliptic surface. A main result is to give an upper bound of the rank of the Galois fixed part of the etale cohomology $H^2(\bar{U},Q_p(2))$. As an application, we give an elliptic K3 surface $X$ over a p-adic field for which the torsion part of the Chow group $CH_0(X)$ of 0-cycles is finite. This would be the first example of a surface $X$ over a p-adic field whose geometric genus is non-zero and for which the torsion part of $CH_0(X)$ is finite.
We give a new proof of the Tate-Voloch conjecture, in the situation where the ambient variety is a semiabelian variety defined over Qp. Our proof is new in the sense that it avoids any reference to algebraic model theory or p-adic Hodge theory.
We prove that the Tate, Beilinson and Parshin conjectures are invariant under Homological Projective Duality (=HPD). As an application, we obtain a proof of these celebrated conjectures (as well as of the strong form of the Tate conjecture) in the new cases of linear sections of determinantal varieties and complete intersections of quadrics. Furthermore, we extend the original conjectures of Tate, Beilinson and Parshin from schemes to stacks and prove these extended conjectures for certain low-dimensional global orbifolds.
We describe the Tate resolution of a coherent sheaf or complex of coherent sheaves on a product of projective spaces. Such a resolution makes explicit all the cohomology of all twists of the sheaf, including, for example, the multigraded module of twisted global sections, and also the Beilinson monads of all twists. Although the Tate resolution is highly infinite, any finite number of components can be computed efficiently, starting either from a Beilinson monad or from a multigraded module.
We develop an analogue of Eisenbud-Floystad-Schreyer's Tate resolutions for toric varieties. Our construction, which is given by a noncommutative analogue of a Fourier- Mukai transform, works quite generally and provides a new perspective on the relationship between Tate resolutions and Beilinson's resolution of the diagonal. We also develop a Beilinson-type resolution of the diagonal for toric varieties.
Tate's central extension originates from 1968 and has since found many applications to curves. In the 80s Beilinson found an n-dimensional generalization: cubically decomposed algebras, based on ideals of bounded and discrete operators in ind-pro limits of vector spaces. Kato and Beilinson independently defined '(n-)Tate categories' whose objects are formal iterated ind-pro limits in general exact categories. We show that the endomorphism algebras of such objects often carry a cubically decomposed structure, and thus a (higher) Tate central extension. Even better, under very strong assumptions…
Using Beilinson's theory of f-categories, we prove that the triangulated category of Tate motives over a field k is equivalent to the bounded derived category of its heart, provided that k is algebraic over the rationals. This answers a question asked by Levine.
We present a triangulated version of the conjectures of Tate and Beilinson on algebraic cycles over a finite field. This sheds a new light on Lichtenbaum's Weil-etale cohomology.
We exhibit a precise connection between Néron--Tate heights on smooth curves and biextension heights of limit mixed Hodge structures associated to smoothing deformations of singular quotient curves. Our approach suggests a new way to compute Beilinson--Bloch heights in higher dimensions.
Beginning with the conjecture of Artin and Tate in 1966, there has been a series of successively more general conjectures expressing the special values of the zeta function of an algebraic variety over a finite field in terms of other invariants of the variety. In this article, we present the ultimate such conjecture, and provide evidence for it. In particular, we enhance Voevodsky's Z[1/p]-category of etale motivic complexes with a p-integral structure, and show that, for this category, our conjecture follows from the Tate and Beilinson conjectures. As the conjecture is stated in terms of mot…
Let p be a prime number. We give a conjecture of a sheaf-theoretic nature which is equivalent to the strong form of the Tate conjecture for smooth, projective varieties X over F_p: for all n>0, the order of pole of the Hasse-Weil zeta function of X at s=n equals the rank of the group of algebraic cycles of codimension n modulo numerical equivalence. Our main result is that this conjecture implies other well-known conjectures in characteristic p, among which: - The (weak) Tate conjecture for smooth, projective varieties X over any finitely generated field of characteristic p: given a prime l di…
It's well known that multiple polylogarithms give rise to good unipotent variations of mixed Hodge-Tate structures. In this paper we shall {\em explicitly} determine these structures related to multiple logarithms and some other multiple polylogarithms of lower weights. The purpose of this explicit construction is to give some important applications: First we study of the limit mixed Hodge-Tate structures and make a conjecture relating the variations of mixed Hodge-Tate structures of multiple logarithms to those of general multiple {\em poly}logarithms. Then following Deligne and Beilinson we …
We apply Wildeshaus's theory of motivic intermediate extensions to the motivic decomposition conjecture, formulated by Deninger-Murre and Corti-Hanamura. We first obtain a general motivic decomposition for the Chow motive of an arbitrary smooth projective family $f:X \rightarrow S$ whose geometric fibers are Tate. Using Voevodsky's motives with rational coefficients, the formula is valid for an arbitrary regular base $S$, without assuming the existence of a base field or even of a prime integer $\ell$ invertible on $S$. This result, and some of Bondarko' ideas, lead us to a generalized formula…
Let X be an irreducible complex variety, S a stratification of X and F a holomorphic vector bundle on the open statum. We give geometric conditions on S and F that produce a natural extension of the k-th Chern class F as a class in the complex cohomology of X of Hodge level at least k. When X is the Baily-Borel compactification of a locally symmetric variety with its stratification by boundary components, and F an automorphic bundle on its interior, then this recovers and refines a theorem of Goresky-Pardon. In passing we define a class of simplicial resolutions of the Baily-Borel compactifica…
We propose a construction of a tensor exact category F_X^m of Artin-Tate motivic sheaves with finite coefficients Z/m over an algebraic variety X (over a field K of characteristic prime to m) in terms of etale sheaves of Z/m-modules over X. Among the objects of F_X^m, in addition to the Tate motives Z/m(j), there are the cohomological relative motives with compact support M_cc^m(Y/X) of varieties Y quasi-finite over X. Exact functors of inverse image with respect to morphisms of algebraic varieties and direct image with compact supports with respect to quasi-finite morphisms of varieties Y\to …
In this article, following an insight of Kontsevich, we extend the famous Weil conjecture (as well as the strong form of the Tate conjecture) from the realm of algebraic geometry to the broad noncommutative setting of dg categories. As a first application, we prove the noncommutative Weil conjecture (and the noncommutative strong form of the Tate conjecture) in the following cases: twisted schemes, Calabi-Yau dg categories associated to hypersurfaces, noncommutative gluings of schemes, root stacks, (twisted) global orbifolds, connective dg algebras, and finite-dimensional dg algebras. As a sec…

We study certain 'weights' for triangulated categories endowed with $t$-structures. Our results axiomatize and describe in detail the relations between the Chow weight structure (introduced in a preceding paper), the (conjectural) motivic t-structure for Voevodsky's motives, and the conjectural weight filtration for them. This picture becomes non-conjectural when restricted to the derived categories of 1-motives (over a smooth base) and of Artin-Tate motives over number fields; other examples include Beilinson's derived category of graded polarizable mixed Hodge complexes and Saito's derived c…
We study the category $DM(S)$ of Beilinson motives (as described by Cisinski and Deglise) over a more or less general base scheme $S$, and establish several nice properties for a version $t_{hom}(S)$ of the perverse homotopy $t$-structure (essentially defined by Ayoub) for it. $t_{hom}(S)$ is characterized in terms of certain stalks of an $S$-motif $H$ and its Tate twists at fields over $S$; it is closely related to certain coniveau spectral sequences for the cohomology of (the Borel-Moore motives of) arbitrary finite type $S$-schemes. We conjecture that the heart of $t_{hom}(S)$ is given by c…
