We consider on the torus the scaling limit of stochastic 2D (inviscid) fluid dynamical equations with transport noise to deterministic viscous equations. Quantitative estimates on the convergence rates are provided by combining analytic and probabilistic arguments, especially heat kernel properties and maximal estimates for stochastic convolutions. Similar ideas are applied to the stochastic 2D Keller-Segel model, yielding explicit choice of noise to ensure that the blow-up probability is less than any given threshold. Our approach also gives rise to some mixing property for stochastic linear transport equations and dissipation enhancement in the viscous case.
We prove that a system of locally interacting diffusions carrying discrete masses, subject to an environmental noise and undergoing mass coagulation, converges to a system of Stochastic Partial Differential Equations (SPDEs) with Smoluchowski-type nonlinearity. Existence, uniqueness and regularity of the SPDEs are also proven.
Consider a random process s solution of the stochastic partial differential equation Ls = w with L a homogeneous operator and w a multidimensional Lévy white noise. In this paper, we study the asymptotic effect of zooming in or zooming out of the process s. More precisely, we give sufficient conditions on L and w so that the rescaled versions of s converges in law to a self-similar process of order H at coarse scales and at fine scales. The parameter H depends on the homogeneity order of the operator L and the Blumenthal-Getoor indices associated to the Lévy white noise w. Finally, we apply ou…
Our first result is a stochastic sewing lemma with quantitative estimates for mild incremental processes, with which we study SPDEs driven by fractional Brownian motions in a random environment. We obtain uniform $L^p$-bounds. Our second result is a fractional averaging principle admitting non-stationary fast environments. As an application, we prove a fractional averaging principle for SPDEs.
Critical transitions (or tipping points) are drastic sudden changes observed in many dynamical systems. Large classes of critical transitions are associated to systems, which drift slowly towards a bifurcation point. In the context of stochastic ordinary differential equations (SODEs), there are results on growth of variance and autocorrelation before a transition, which can be used as possible warning signs in applications. A similar theory has recently been developed in the simplest setting also for stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) for self-adjoint operators in the drift ter…

Quantitative estimates for the top Lyapunov exponents for systems of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations are proven. The treatment includes reaction potentials with degenerate minima. The proof relies on an asymptotic expansion of the invariant measure, with careful control on the resulting error terms. As a consequence of these estimates, synchronisation by noise is deduced for systems of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations for the first time.
Stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) on graphs were introduced by Cerrai and Freidlin [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré Probab. Stat. 53 (2017) 865-899]. This class of stochastic equations in infinite dimensions provides a minimal framework for the study of the effective dynamics of much more complex systems. However, how they emerge from microscopic individual-based models is still poorly understood, partly due to complications near vertex singularities. In this work, motivated by the study of the dynamics and the genealogies of expanding populations in spatially structured environments,…
We consider stochastic partial differential equations under minimal assumptions: the coefficients are merely bounded and measurable and satisfy the stochastic parabolicity condition. In particular, the diffusion term is allowed to be scaling-critical. We derive local supremum estimates with a stochastic adaptation of De Giorgi's iteration and establish a weak Harnack inequality for the solutions. The latter is then used to obtain pointwise almost sure continuity.
We consider systems of diffusion processes ("particles") interacting through their ranks (also referred to as "rank-based models" in the mathematical finance literature). We show that, as the number of particles becomes large, the process of fluctuations of the empirical cumulative distribution functions converges to the solution of a linear parabolic SPDE with additive noise. The coefficients in the limiting SPDE are determined by the hydrodynamic limit of the particle system which, in turn, can be described by the porous medium PDE. The result opens the door to a thorough investigation of la…
We establish the dual notions of scaling and saturation from geometric control theory in an infinite-dimensional setting. This generalization is applied to the low-mode control problem in a number of concrete nonlinear partial differential equations. We also develop applications concerning associated classes of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). In particular, we study the support properties of probability laws corresponding to these SPDEs as well as provide applications concerning the ergodic and mixing properties of invariant measures for these stochastic systems.
The coefficient function of the leading differential operator is estimated from observations of a linear stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE). The estimation is based on continuous time observations which are localised in space. For the asymptotic regime with fixed time horizon and with the spatial resolution of the observations tending to zero, we provide rate-optimal estimators and establish scaling limits of the deterministic PDE and of the SPDE on growing domains. The estimators are robust to lower order perturbations of the underlying differential operator and achieve the param…
Motivated by Girsanov's nonuniqueness examples for SDEs, we prove nonuniqueness for the parabolic stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) \[\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\fracΔ{2}u(t,x) +\bigl|u(t,x)\bigr|^γ\dot{W}(t,x),\qquad u(0,x)=0.\] Here $\dot{W}$ is a space-time white noise on ${\mathbb {R}}_+\times {\mathbb {R}}$. More precisely, we show the above stochastic PDE has a nonzero solution for $0<γ<3/4$. Since $u(t,x)=0$ solves the equation, it follows that solutions are neither unique in law nor pathwise unique. An analogue of Yamada-Watanabe's famous theorem for SDEs was recently …
We consider an interacting particles system composed of a Hamiltonian part and perturbed by a conservative stochastic noise so that the full system conserves two quantities: energy and volume. The Hamiltonian part is regulated by a scaling parameter vanishing in the limit. We study the form of the fluctuations of these quantities at equilibrium and derive coupled stochastic partial differential equations with a KPZ flavor.

The convergence of stochastic interacting particle systems in the mean-field limit to solutions of conservative stochastic partial differential equations is established, with optimal rate of convergence. As a second main result, a quantitative central limit theorem for such SPDEs is derived, again, with optimal rate of convergence. The results apply, in particular, to the convergence in the mean-field scaling of stochastic gradient descent dynamics in overparametrized, shallow neural networks to solutions of SPDEs. It is shown that the inclusion of fluctuations in the limiting SPDE improves th…
In this article we derive rigorously amplitude equations for stochastic PDEs with quadratic nonlinearities, under the assumption that the noise acts only on the stable modes and for an appropriate scaling between the distance from bifurcation and the strength of the noise. We show that, due to the presence of two distinct timescales in our system, the noise (which acts only on the fast modes) gets transmitted to the slow modes and, as a result, the amplitude equation contains both additive and multiplicative noise. As an application we study the case of the one dimensional Burgers equation for…
Elaborating on the model from voter process with mixed-mechanism under suitable scaling, I have two new mechanisms which are random switch and unbiased local Homogenization and subtly biased advantage but with state dependent coefficient involved. The most crucial one, the existence of high-frequency duplication generating the diffusion term and noise term in each case identifies the limit equation as SPDE driven by space time white noise.
In order to characterize the fluctuation between the ergodic limit and the time-averaging estimator of a full discretization in a quantitative way, we establish a central limit theorem for the full discretization of the parabolic stochastic partial differential equation. The theorem shows that the normalized time-averaging estimator converges to a normal distribution with the variance being the same as that of the continuous case, where the scale used for the normalization corresponds to the temporal strong convergence order of the considered full discretization. A key ingredient in the proof …
We set up an SPDE model for a moving, weakly self-avoiding polymer with intrinsic length $J$ taking values in $(0,\infty)$. Our main result states that the effective radius of the polymer is approximately $J^{5/3}$; evidently for large $J$ the polymer undergoes stretching. This contrasts with the equilibrium situation without the time variable, where many earlier results show that the effective radius is approximately $J$. For such a moving polymer taking values in $\mathbf{R}^2$, we offer a conjecture that the effective radius is approximately $J^{5/4}$.
This work introduces a general framework for establishing the long time accuracy for approximations of Markovian dynamical systems on separable Banach spaces. Our results illuminate the role that a certain uniformity in Wasserstein contraction rates for the approximating dynamics bears on long time accuracy estimates. In particular, our approach yields weak consistency bounds on $\mathbb{R}^+$ while providing a means to sidestepping a commonly occurring situation where certain higher order moment bounds are unavailable for the approximating dynamics. Additionally, to facilitate the analytical …
In this paper, we study the generation of interfaces for a stochastic Allen-Cahn equation with general initial value in the multi-dimensional case that external noise is given by Q-Brownian motion. We prove that interfaces, for d-dimensional stochastic Allen-Cahn equation with scaling parameter are generated at the time of logarithmic order. Especially, in one-dimensional case, we give more detailed estimate and shape of the generated interface. Assuming that the Q-Brownian motion is smooth in space variable, we extend a comparison theorem for PDE to SPDE's in order to prove the generation. Mo…
In this work we focus on the two-dimensional anisotropic KPZ (aKPZ) equation, which is formally given by \begin{equation*}\partial_t h =\fracν{2}Δh + λ((\partial_1 h)^2 - (\partial_2 h)^2) + ν^\frac{1}{2}ξ,\end{equation*} where $ξ$ denotes a noise which is white in both space and time, and $λ$ and $ν$ are positive constants. Due to the wild oscillations of the noise and the quadratic nonlinearity, the previous equation is classically ill-posed. It is not possible to linearise it via the Cole-Hopf transformation and the pathwise techniques for singular SPDEs (the theory of Regularity Structures…
We consider a system of $N$ disordered mean-field interacting diffusions within spatial constraints: each particle $θ_i$ is attached to one site $x_i$ of a periodic lattice and the interaction between particles $θ_i$ and $θ_j$ decreases as $| x_i-x_j|^{-α}$ for $α\in[0,1)$. In a previous work, it was shown that the empirical measure of the particles converges in large population to the solution of a nonlinear partial differential equation of McKean-Vlasov type. The purpose of the present paper is to study the fluctuations associated to this convergence. We exhibit in particular a phase transit…
We consider the fluctuation fields of multi-species weakly-asymmetric zero-range interacting particle systems in one dimension, where the mass density of each species is conserved. Although such fields have been studied in systems with a single species, the multi-species setting is much less understood. Among other results, we show that, when the system starts from stationary states, with a particular property, the scaling limits of the multi-species fluctuation fields, seen in a characteristic traveling frame, solve a coupled Burgers SPDE, which is a formal spatial gradient of a coupled KPZ e…
This paper concerns the macroscopic behavior of solutions to parabolic equations with large, highly oscillatory, random potential. When the correlation function of the random potential satisfies a specific integrability condition, we show that the random solution converges, as the correlation length of the medium tends to zero, to the deterministic solution of a homogenized equation in dimension $d\geq3$. Our derivation is based on a Feynman-Kac probabilistic representation and the Kipnis-Varadhan method applied to weak convergence of Brownian motions in random sceneries. For sufficiently mixi…
There have been significant recent advances in our understanding of the potential use and limitations of early-warning signs for predicting drastic changes, so called critical transitions or tipping points, in dynamical systems. A focus of mathematical modeling and analysis has been on stochastic ordinary differential equations, where generic statistical early-warning signs can be identified near bifurcation-induced tipping points. In this paper, we outline some basic steps to extend this theory to stochastic partial differential equations with a focus on analytically characterizing basic scal…
This is a preliminary version of a book which presents the quantitative homogenization and large-scale regularity theory for elliptic equations in divergence-form. The self-contained presentation gives new and simplified proofs of the core results proved in the last several years, including the algebraic convergence rate for the variational subadditive quantities, the large-scale Lipschitz and higher regularity estimates and Liouville-type results, optimal quantitative estimates on the first-order correctors and their scaling limit to a Gaussian free field. There are several chapters containin…
We study a random conductance problem on a $d$-dimensional discrete torus of size $L > 0$. The conductances are independent, identically distributed random variables uniformly bounded from above and below by positive constants. The effective conductance $A_L$ of the network is a random variable, depending on $L$, and the main result is a quantitative central limit theorem for this quantity as $L \to \infty$. In terms of scalings we prove that this nonlinear nonlocal function $A_L$ essentially behaves as if it were a simple spatial average of the conductances (up to logarithmic corrections). Th…
