In this article we derive rigorously amplitude equations for stochastic PDEs with quadratic nonlinearities, under the assumption that the noise acts only on the stable modes and for an appropriate scaling between the distance from bifurcation and the strength of the noise. We show that, due to the presence of two distinct timescales in our system, the noise (which acts only on the fast modes) gets transmitted to the slow modes and, as a result, the amplitude equation contains both additive and multiplicative noise.
As an application we study the case of the one dimensional Burgers equation forced by additive noise in the orthogonal subspace to its dominant modes. The theory developed in the present article thus allows to explain theoretically some recent numerical observations from [Rob03].
This article deals with stochastic partial differential equations with quadratic nonlinearities perturbed by small additive and multiplicative noise. We present the approximate solution of the original equation via the amplitude equation and give the rigorous error analysis. For illustration, we apply our main theorems to stochastic Burger's equation.
This paper introduces a new $p$-dependent coercivity condition through which $L^p$-moments for solutions can be obtained for a large class of SPDEs in the variational framework. If $p=2$, our condition reduces to the classically coercivity condition, which only yields second moments for the solution. The abstract result is shown to be optimal. Moreover, the results are applied to obtain $L^p$-moments of solutions for several classical SPDEs such as stochastic heat equations with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, Burgers' equation and the Navier-Stokes equations in two spatial dimensio…
In this paper, the averaging principle is studied for a class of multiscale stochastic partial differential equations driven by $α$-stable process, where $α\in(1,2)$. Using the technique of Poisson equation, the orders of strong and weak convergence are given $1-1/α$ and $1-r$ for any $r\in (0,1)$ respectively. The main results extend Wiener noise considered by Bréhier in [6] and Ge et al. in [17] to $α$-stable process, and the finite dimensional case considered by Sun et al. in [39] to the infinite dimensional case.
The qualitative properties of local random invariant manifolds for stochastic partial differential equations with quadratic nonlinearities and multiplicative noise is studied by a cut off technique. By a detail estimates on the Perron fixed point equation describing the local random invariant manifold, the structure near a bifurcation is given.

We consider a class of semilinear stochastic evolution equations driven by an additive cylindrical stable noise. We investigate structural properties of the solutions like Markov, irreducibility, stochastic continuity, Feller and strong Feller properties, and study integrability of trajectories. The obtained results can be applied to semilinear stochastic heat equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and bounded and Lipschitz nonlinearities.
We study the spatial homogenisation of parabolic linear stochastic PDEs exhibiting a two-scale structure both at the level of the linear operator and at the level of the Gaussian driving noise. We show that in some cases, in particular when the forcing is given by space-time white noise, it may happen that the homogenised SPDE is not what one would expect from existing results for PDEs with more regular forcing terms.
Stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) have become a crucial ingredient in a number of models from economics and the natural sciences. Many SPDEs that appear in such applications include non-globally monotone nonlinearities. Solutions of SPDEs with non-globally monotone nonlinearities are in nearly all cases not known explicitly. Such SPDEs can thus only be solved approximatively and it is an important research problem to construct and analyze discrete numerical approximation schemes which converge with positive strong convergence rates to the solutions of such infinite dimensional …
This article is devoted to the analysis of semilinear, parabolic, Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, with slow and fast time scales. Asymptotically, an averaging principle holds: the slow component converges to the solution of another semilinear, parabolic, SPDE, where the nonlinearity is averaged with respect to the invariant distribution of the fast process. We exhibit orders of convergence, in both strong and weak senses, in two relevant situations, depending on the spatial regularity of the fast process and on the covariance of the Wiener noise in the slow equation. In a very regul…
In this paper, we first study the well-posedness of a class of McKean-Vlasov stochastic partial differential equations driven by cylindrical $α$-stable process, where $α\in(1,2)$. Then by the method of the Khasminskii's time discretization, we prove the averaging principle of a class of multiscale McKean-Vlasov stochastic partial differential equations driven by cylindrical $α$-stable processes. Meanwhile, we obtain a specific strong convergence rate.
We investigate the stability of traveling-pulse solutions to the stochastic FitzHughNagumo equations with additive noise. Special attention is given to the effect of small noise on the classical deterministically stable fast traveling pulse. Our method is based on adapting the velocity of the traveling wave by solving a scalar stochastic ordinary differential equation (SODE) and tracking perturbations to the wave meeting a system of a scalar stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) coupled to a scalar ordinary differential equation (ODE). This approach has been recently employed by Krüg…
The numerical solution of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) presents challenges not encountered in the simulation of PDEs or SDEs. Indeed, the roughness of the noise in conjunction with nonlinearities in the drift typically make these equations particularly stiff. In practice, this means that it is tricky to construct, operate, and validate numerical methods for SPDEs. This is especially true if one is interested in path-dependent expected values, long-time simulations, or in the simulation of SPDEs whose solutions have constraints on their domains. To address these numerical is…
We study nonlinear parabolic stochastic partial differential equations with Wick-power and Wick-polynomial type nonlinearities set in the framework of white noise analysis. These equations include the stochastic Fujita equation, the stochastic Fisher-KPP equation and the stochastic FitzHugh-Nagumo equation among many others. By implementing the theory of $C_0-$semigroups and evolution systems into the chaos expansion theory in infinite dimensional spaces, we prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for this class of SPDEs. In particular, we also treat the linear nonautonomous case and provi…
This paper is a continuation of Part I of this project, where we developed a new local well-posedness theory for nonlinear stochastic PDEs with Gaussian noise. In the current Part II we consider blow-up criteria and regularization phenomena. As in Part I we can allow nonlinearities with polynomial growth, and rough initial values from critical spaces. In the first main result we obtain several new blow-up criteria for quasi- and semilinear stochastic evolution equations. In particular, for semilinear equations we obtain a Serrin type blow-up criterium, which extends a recent result of Prüss-Si…
Weak convergence rates for numerical approximations of stochastic partial differential equations with nonlinear diffusion coefficients in UMD Banach spaces
It is frequently the case that a white-noise-driven parabolic and/or hyperbolic stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) can have random-field solutions only in spatial dimension one. Here we show that in many cases, where the ``spatial operator'' is the L^2-generator of a Lévy process X, a linear SPDE has a random-field solution if and only if the symmetrization of X possesses local times. This result gives a probabilistic reason for the lack of existence of random-field solutions in dimensions strictly bigger than one. In addition, we prove that the solution to the SPDE is [Hölder] co…
In this paper we develop a new approach to nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations with Gaussian noise. Our aim is to provide an abstract framework which is applicable to a large class of SPDEs and includes many important cases of nonlinear parabolic problems which are of quasi- or semilinear type. This first part is on local existence and well-posedness. A second part in preparation is on blow-up criteria and regularization. Our theory is formulated in an $L^p$-setting, and because of this we can deal with nonlinearities in a very efficient way. Applications to several concrete pr…
We investigate, in the setting of UMD Banach spaces E, the continuous dependence on the data A, F, G and X_0 of mild solutions of semilinear stochastic evolution equations with multiplicative noise of the form dX(t) = [AX(t) + F(t,X(t))]dt + G(t,X(t))dW_H(t), X(0)=X_0, where W_H is a cylindrical Brownian motion on a Hilbert space H. We prove continuous dependence of the compensated solutions X(t)-e^{tA}X_0 in the norms L^p(Ω;C^λ([0,T];E)) assuming that the approximating operators A_n are uniformly sectorial and converge to A in the strong resolvent sense, and that the approximating nonlinearit…
