We consider a system of $N$ disordered mean-field interacting diffusions within spatial constraints: each particle $θ_i$ is attached to one site $x_i$ of a periodic lattice and the interaction between particles $θ_i$ and $θ_j$ decreases as $| x_i-x_j|^{-α}$ for $α\in[0,1)$. In a previous work, it was shown that the empirical measure of the particles converges in large population to the solution of a nonlinear partial differential equation of McKean-Vlasov type. The purpose of the present paper is to study the fluctuations associated to this convergence. We exhibit in particular a phase transition in the scaling and in the nature of the fluctuations: when $α\in[0,\frac{1}{2})$, the fluctuations are Gaussian, governed by a linear SPDE, with scaling $\sqrt{N}$ whereas the fluctuations are deterministic with scaling $N^{1-α}$ in the case $α\in(\frac{1}{2},1)$.
For positive recurrent jumping-in diffusions with small jumps, we establish distributional limits of the fluctuations of inverse local times and occupation times. For this purpose, we introduce and utilize eigenfunctions with modified Neumann boundary condition and apply the Krein-Kotani correspondence.
For positive recurrent jumping-in diffusions with large jumps, we study scaling limits of the fluctuations of inverse local times and occupation times. We generalize the eigenfunctions with modified Neumann boundary condition, which have been introduced in the previous study for small jumps, to a class of diffusions of stronger singularity.
In arXiv:1410.7268v3, the authors consider eigenvalues of overlapping Wishart matrices and prove that its fluctuations asymptotically convergence to the Gaussian free field. In this brief note, their result is extended to show that when the matrix entries undergo stochastic evolution, the fluctuations asymptotically converge to a three-dimensional Gaussian field, which has an explicit contour integral formula. This is analogous to the result of arXiv:1011.3544 for stochastic Wigner matrices.
The paper describes the global limiting behavior of Gaussian beta ensembles where the parameter $β$ is allowed to vary with the matrix size $n$. In particular, we show that as $n \to \infty$ with $nβ\to \infty$, the empirical distribution converges weakly to the semicircle distribution, almost surely. The Gaussian fluctuation around the limit is then derived by a martingale approach.
We study the limiting behavior of Gaussian beta ensembles in the regime where $βn = const$ as $n \to \infty$. The results are (1) Gaussian fluctuations for linear statistics of the eigenvalues, and (2) Poisson convergence of the bulk statistics. (2) is an alternative proof of the result by F.~Benaych-Georges and S.~Péché (2015) with the explicit form of the intensity measure.
As an important topic in Mathematical Physics and statistics, random matrices theory has found uses in many aspects of modern physics and multivariate analysis. This paper is to investigate the Gaussian fluctuations for linear spectral statistics (LSS) of Wigner beta ensembles. We first establish a central limit theorem (CLT) for LSS of Wigner quaternion matrices, then give a general CLT for Wigner $β$ ensembles.
We study the Circular and Jacobi $β$-Ensembles and prove Gaussian fluctuations for the number of points in one or more intervals in the macroscopic scaling limit.
We consider an iterated Kolmogorov diffusion $X_{t}$ of step $n$. The small ball problem for $X_{t}$ is solved by means of the Gaussian correlation inequality. We also prove Chung's laws of iterated logarithm for $X_{t}$ both at time zero and infinity.
We prove a full large deviations principle in large time, for a diffusion process with random drift V, which is a centered Gaussian shear flow random field. The large deviations principle is established in a ``quenched'' setting, i.e. is valid almost surely in the randomness of V.
We study Gaussian approximations to the distribution of a diffusion. The approximations are easy to compute: they are defined by two simple ordinary differential equations for the mean and the covariance. Time correlations can also be computed via solution of a linear stochastic differential equation. We show, using the Kullback-Leibler divergence, that the approximations are accurate in the small noise regime. An analogous discrete time setting is also studied. The results provide both theoretical support for the use of Gaussian processes in the approximation of diffusions, and methodological…
We study the Schrödinger equation driven by a weak Brownian forcing, and derive Gaussian fluctuations in the form of a time-inhomogeneous Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. As a result, when evaluated at a fixed frequency, the intensity of the incoherent wave is of exponential distribution.
We prove that the logarithm of the determinant of a Wigner matrix satisfies a central limit theorem in the limit of large dimension. Previous results about fluctuations of such determinants required that the first four moments of the matrix entries match those of a Gaussian. Our work treats symmetric and Hermitian matrices with centered entries having the same variance and subgaussian tail. In particular, it applies to symmetric Bernoulli matrices and answers an open problem raised by Tao and Vu.
Consider the parabolic Anderson model $\partial_tu=\frac{1}{2}\partial_x^2u+u\, η$ on the interval $[0, L]$ with Neumann, Dirichlet or periodic boundary conditions, driven by space-time white noise $η$. Using Malliavin-Stein method, we establish the central limit theorem for the fluctuation of the spatial integral $\int_0^Lu(t\,, x)\, \mathrm{d} x$ as $L$ tends to infinity, where the limiting Gaussian distribution is independent of the choice of the boundary conditions and coincides with the Gaussian fluctuation for the spatial average of parabolic Anderson model on the whole space $\mathbb{R}…
We consider the discrete directed polymer model with i.i.d. environment and we study the fluctuations of the tail $n^{(d-2)/4}(W_\infty - W_n)$ of the normalized partition function. It was proven by Comets and Liu, that for sufficiently high temperature, the fluctuations converge in distribution towards the product of the limiting partition function and an independent Gaussian random variable. We extend the result to the whole $L^2$-region, which is predicted to be the maximal high-temperature region where the Gaussian fluctuations should occur under the considered scaling. To do so, we manage…
We prove that homogenous sums inside a fixed discrete Poisson chaos are universal with respect to normal approximations. This result parallels some recent findings, in a Gaussian context, by Nourdin, Peccati and Reinert (2010). As a by-product of our analysis, we provide some refinements of the CLTs for random variables on the Poisson space proved by Peccati, Solé, Taqqu and Utzet (2010), and by Peccati and Zheng (2010).
We study the small-time asymptotics for hypoelliptic diffusion processes conditioned by their initial and final positions, in a model class of diffusions satisfying a weak Hörmander condition where the diffusivity is constant and the drift is linear. We show that, while the diffusion bridge can exhibit a blow-up behaviour in the small time limit, we can still make sense of suitably rescaled fluctuations which converge weakly. We explicitly describe the limit fluctuation process in terms of quantities associated to the unconditioned diffusion. In the discussion of examples, we also find an expr…
We study the limiting behavior of the $k$-th eigenvalue $x_k$ of unitary invariant ensembles with Freud-type and uniform convex potentials. As both $k$ and $n-k$ tend to infinity, we obtain Gaussian fluctuations for $x_k$ in the bulk and soft edge cases, respectively. Multi-dimensional central limit theorems, as well as moderate deviations, are also proved. This work generalizes earlier results in the GUE and unitary invariant ensembles with monomial potentials of even degree. In particular, we obtain the precise asymptotics of corresponding Christoffel-Darboux kernels as well.
This paper is devoted to the Gaussian fluctuations and deviations of the traces of tridiagonal random matrix. Under quite general assumptions, we prove that the traces are approximately normal distributed. Multi-dimensional central limit theorem is also obtained here. These results have several applications to various physical models and random matrix models, such as the Anderson model, the random birth-death Markov kernel, the random birth-death $Q$ matrix and the $β$-Hermite ensemble. Furthermore, under some independent and identically distributed condition, we also prove the large deviation…
We investigate the high-dimensional asymptotic distributional behavior of the $\mathbf{f}$-vector of a random Vietoris-Rips complex, that is generated over a stationary Poisson point process in $[-\frac{1}{2}, \frac{1}{2}]^d$ as the space dimension and the intensity tend to infinity while the radius parameter tends to zero simultaneously.
Continuing the analysis initiated in Lachiéze-Rey and Peccati (2011), we use contraction operators to study the normal approximation of random variables having the form of a U-statistic written on the points in the support of a random Poisson measure. Applications are provided: to boolean models, and coverage of random networks.
In this paper, we study the long-time behavior of a fluid particle immersed in a turbulent fluid driven by a diffusion with jumps, that is, a Feller process associated with a non-local operator. We derive the law of large numbers and central limit theorem for the evolution process of the tracked fluid particle in the cases when the driving process: (i) has periodic coefficients, (ii) is ergodic or (iii) is a class of Lévy processes. The presented results generalize the classical and well-known results for fluid flows driven by elliptic diffusion processes.
We consider large-dimensional Hermitian or symmetric random matrices of the form $W=M+\vartheta V$ where $M$ is a Wigner matrix and $V$ is a real diagonal matrix whose entries are independent of $M$. For a large class of diagonal matrices $V$, we prove that the fluctuations of linear spectral statistics of $W$ for $C^{2}_{c}$ test function can be decomposed into that of $M$ and of $V$, and that each of those weakly converges to a Gaussian distribution. We also calculate the formulae for the means and variances of the limiting distributions.
We prove the two dimensional KPZ equation with a logarithmically tuned nonlinearity and a small coupling constant, scales to the Edwards-Wilkinson equation with an effective variance.
In this paper we study the global fluctuations of block Gaussian matrices within the framework of second-order free probability theory. In order to compute the second-order Cauchy transform of these matrices, we introduce a matricial second-order conditional expectation and compute the matricial second-order Cauchy transform of a certain type of non-commutative random variables. As a by-product, using the linearization technique, we obtain the second-order Cauchy transform of non-commutative rational functions evaluated on selfadjoint Gaussian matrices.
We study the classical XY model in bounded domains of $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove that when the temperature goes to zero faster than a certain rate as the lattice spacing goes to zero, the fluctuation field converges to a standard Gaussian white noise. This and related results also apply to a large class of gradient field models.
We extend the relation between random matrices and free probability theory from the level of expectations to the level of fluctuations. We introduce the concept of "second order freeness" and derive the global fluctuations of Gaussian and Wishart random matrices by a general limit theorem for second order freeness. By introducing cyclic Fock space, we also give an operator algebraic model for the fluctuations of our random matrices in terms of the usual creation, annihilation, and preservation operators. We show that orthogonal families of Gaussian and Wishart random matrices are asymptoticall…
The Gaussian entire function is a random entire function, characterised by a certain invariance with respect to isometries of the plane. We study the fluctuations of the increment of the argument of the Gaussian entire function along planar curves. We introduce an inner product on finite formal linear combinations of curves (with real coefficients), that we call the signed length, which describes the limiting covariance of the increment. We also establish asymptotic normality of fluctuations.
We consider global fluctuations of the spectrum of the GUE. Using results on the linear statistics of such matrices as well as variance bounds on the eigenvalues, we show that under a suitable scaling, global fluctuations of the spectrum can be asymptotically described in terms of a logarithmically correlated Gaussian field. We also discuss briefly connections between different objects in RMT giving rise to log-correlated fields: the logarithm of the absolute value of the characteristic polynomial, the eigenvalue counting function, and the field of fluctuations of the eigenvalues around their …
We study the small-time fluctuations for diffusion processes which are conditioned by their initial and final positions, under the assumptions that the diffusivity has a sub-Riemannian structure and that the drift vector field lies in the span of the sub-Riemannian structure. In the case where the endpoints agree and the generator of the diffusion process is non-elliptic at that point, the deterministic Malliavin covariance matrix is always degenerate. We identify, after a suitable rescaling, another limiting Malliavin covariance matrix which is non-degenerate, and we show that, with the same …
We prove that the Airy process, A(t), locally fluctuates like a Brownian motion. In the same spirit we also show that in a certain scaling limit, the so called discrete polynuclear growth (PNG) process behaves like a Brownian motion.
We study fluctuations in the number of zeros of random analytic functions given by a Taylor series whose coefficients are independent complex Gaussians. When the functions are entire, we find sharp bounds for the asymptotic growth rate of the variance of the number of zeros in large disks centered at the origin. To obtain a result that holds under no assumptions on the variance of the Taylor coefficients we employ the Wiman-Valiron theory. We demonstrate the sharpness of our bounds by studying well-behaved covariance kernels, which we call admissible (after Hayman).
We introduce a large class of random Young diagrams which can be regarded as a natural one-parameter deformation of some classical Young diagram ensembles; a deformation which is related to Jack polynomials and Jack characters. We show that each such a random Young diagram converges asymptotically to some limit shape and that the fluctuations around the limit are asymptotically Gaussian.
The zero set of the hyperbolic Gaussian analytic function is a random point process in the unit disc whose distribution is invariant under automorphisms of the disc. We study the variance of the number of points in a disc of increasing radius. Somewhat surprisingly, we find a change of behaviour at a certain value of the `intensity' of the process, which appears to be novel.
We study non-equilibrium statistical mechanics of a Gaussian dynamical system and compute in closed form the large deviation functionals describing the fluctuations of the entropy production observable with respect to the reference state and the non-equilibrium steady state. The entropy production observable of this model is an unbounded function on the phase space, and its large deviation functionals have a surprisingly rich structure. We explore this structure in some detail.
In this short note, we prove a central limit theorem for a type of replica overlap of the Brownian directed polymer in a Gaussian random environment, in the low temperature regime and in all dimensions. The proof relies on a superconcentration result for the KPZ equation driven by a spatially mollified noise, which is inspired by the recent work of Chatterjee \cite{C1}.
Motivated by the Rudnick-Sarnak theorem we study limiting distribution of smoothed local correlations of the form $$ \sum_{j_1, j_2, \ldots, j_n} f(N\*(θ_{j_2}-θ_{j_1}), N\*(θ_{j_3}-θ_{j_1}), \ldots, N\*(θ_{j_n}-θ_{j_1}))$$ for the Circular United Ensemble of random matrices for sufficiently smooth test functions.
Nonequilibrium fluctuation-dissipation theorems (FDTs) are one of the most important advances in stochastic thermodynamics over the past two decades. Here we provide rigorous mathematical proofs of two types of nonequilibrium FDTs for inhomogeneous diffusion processes with unbounded drift and diffusion coefficients by using the Schauder estimates for partial differential equations of parabolic type and the theory of weakly continuous semigroups. The FDTs proved in this paper apply to any forms of inhomogeneous and nonlinear external perturbations. Furthermore, we prove the uniqueness of the co…
