To all orders of perturbation theory, the renormalization of the topological charge density in dimensionally regularized QCD is shown to require no more than an additive renormalization proportional to the divergence of the flavour-singlet axial current. The proof is based on the standard BRS analysis of the QCD vertex functional in the background gauge and exploits the special algebraic properties of the charge density through the Stora--Zumino chain of descent equations.
We provide the full set of renormalization group functions for the renormalization of QCD in the minimal MOM scheme to four loops for the colour group SU(N_c).
We illustrate the dimensional regularization technique using a simple problem from elementary electrostatics. We contrast this approach with the cutoff regularization approach, and demonstrate that dimensional regularization preserves the translational symmetry. We then introduce a Minimal Subtraction (MS) and a Modified Minimal Subtraction (MS-Bar) scheme to renormalize the result. Finally, we consider dimensional transmutation as encountered in the case of compact extra-dimensions.
Extended QCD (XQCD) proposed by Kaplan [1] is an interesting reformulation of QCD with additional bosonic auxiliary fields. While its partition function is kept exactly the same as that of original QCD, XQCD naturally contains properties of low energy hadronic models. We analyze the renormalization group flow of two-dimensional (X)QCD, which is solvable in the limit of large number of colors Nc, to understand what kind of roles the auxiliary degrees of freedom play and how the hadronic picture emerges in the low energy region.
We provide the renormalization constants of the axial current operators, both singlet and non-singlet, in dimensional regularization up to four-loop order in QCD, determined using the off-shell Ward-Takahashi identity for an axial current with a non-anticommuting $γ_5$. A possible application of the result for the singlet axial current operator is the extraction of the non-decoupling mass logarithms in the axial quark form factors.
We compute the on-shell wave function renormalization constant to four-loop order in QCD and present numerical results for all coefficients of the SU$(N_c)$ colour factors. We extract the four-loop HQET anomalous dimension of the heavy quark field and also discuss the application of our result to QED.
This review provides a detailed introduction to chiral gauge theories, renormalization theory, and the application of dimensional regularization with the non-anticommuting BMHV scheme for $γ_5$. One goal is to show how chiral gauge theories can be renormalized despite the spurious breaking of gauge invariance and how to obtain the required symmetry-restoring counterterms. A second goal is to familiarize the reader with the theoretical basis of the renormalization of chiral gauge theories, the theorems that guarantee the existence of renormalized chiral gauge theories at all orders as consisten…
We present analytical results at four-loop level for the renormalization constants and anomalous dimensions of an extended QCD model with one coupling constant and an arbitrary number of fermion representations. One example of such a model is the QCD plus gluinos sector of a supersymmetric theory where the gluinos are Majorana fermions in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. The renormalization constants of the gauge boson, ghost and fermion fields are analytically computed as well as those for the ghost-gluon vertex, the fermion-gluon vertex and the fermion mass. All other renormali…
Quark bilinear operators with staple-shaped Wilson lines are used to study transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) from lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Here, the renormalization factors for the isovector operators, including all mixings between operators with different Dirac structures, are computed nonperturbatively in the regularization-independent momentum subtraction scheme for the first time. This study is undertaken in quenched QCD with three different lattice spacings. With Wilson flow applied to the gauge fields in the calculations, the operator mixi…

In QCD sum-rule methods, the fundamental field-theoretical quantities are correlation functions of composite operators that serve as hadronic interpolating fields. One of the challenges of loop corrections to QCD correlation functions in conventional approaches is the renormalization-induced mixing of composite operators. This involves a multi-step process of first renormalizing the operators, and then calculating the correlation functions in this mixed basis. This process becomes increasingly complicated as the number of operators mixed under renormalization increases, a situation that is exa…
Based on the renormalization group summation method of McKeon ${\it et\; al.}$, it is shown that the renormalization group equation, while related to the radiatively mass scale $μ$, would perform a summation over QCD perturbative terms. Employing the full QCD $β$-function within this summation, all logarithmic corrections can be presented as log-independent contributions. In another step of this approach, the renormalization scheme dependence of QCD observables, characterized by Stevenson, is required to be examined. In this regard, two choices of renormalization scheme would be exposed. In on…
In this article we present REvolver, a C++ library for renormalization group evolution and automatic flavor matching of the QCD coupling and quark masses, as well as precise conversion between various quark mass renormalization schemes. The library systematically accounts for the renormalization group evolution of low-scale short-distance masses which depend linearly on the renormalization scale and sums logarithmic terms of high and low scales that are missed by the common logarithmic renormalization scale evolution. The library can also be accessed through Mathematica and Python interfaces a…
We investigate QCD amplitudes with massive quarks computed in the four-dimensional helicity scheme (FDH) and dimensional reduction at NNLO and describe how they are related to the corresponding amplitudes computed in conventional dimensional regularization. To this end, the scheme dependence of the heavy quark and the velocity-dependent cusp anomalous dimensions is determined using soft-collinear effective theory. The results are checked against explicit computations of massive form factors in FDH at NNLO. Our results complete the description of the scheme dependence of QCD amplitudes at NNLO.
The renormalization constant $Z_J$ of the flavor-singlet axial-vector current with a non-anticommuting $γ_5$ in dimensional regularization is determined to order $α_s^3$ in QCD with massless quarks. In addition, the equality between the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ renormalization constant $Z_{F\tilde{F}}$ associated with the operator $\big[F \tilde{F} \big]_{R}$ and that of $α_s$ is verified explicitly to hold true at 4-loop order.
In many models in condensed matter physics and high-energy physics, one finds inhomogeneous phases at high density and low temperature. These phases are characterized by a spatially dependent condensate or order parameter. A proper calculation requires that one takes the vacuum fluctuations of the model into account. These fluctuations are ultraviolet divergent and must be regularized. We discuss different consistent ways of regularizing and renormalizing quantum fluctuations, focusing on a symmetric energy cutoff scheme and dimensional regularization. We apply these techniques calculating the…
