We study the separate variable blow-up patterns associated to the following second order reaction-diffusion equation: $$ \partial_tu=Δu^m + |x|^σu^m, $$ posed for $x\in\mathbb{R}^N$, $t\geq0$, where $m>1$, dimension $N\geq2$ and $σ>0$. A new and explicit critical exponent $$ σ_c=\frac{2(m-1)(N-1)}{3m+1} $$ is introduced and a classification of the blow-up profiles is given. The most interesting contribution of the paper is showing that existence and behavior of the blow-up patterns is split into different regimes by the critical exponent $σ_c$ and also depends strongly on whether the dimension $N\geq4$ or $N\in\{2,3\}$. These results extend previous works of the authors in dimension $N=1$.
We classify all the blow-up solutions in self-similar form to the following reaction-diffusion equation $$ \partial_tu=Δu^m+|x|^σu^p, $$ posed for $(x,t)\in\real^N\times(0,T)$, with $m>1$, $1\leq p<m$ and $-2(p-1)/(m-1)<σ<\infty$. We prove that there are several types of self-similar solutions with respect to the local behavior near the origin, and their existence depends on the magnitude of $σ$. In particular, these solutions have different blow-up sets and rates: some of them have $x=0$ as a blow-up point, some other only blow up at (space) infinity. We thus emphasize on the effect of the we…
We classify the finite time blow-up profiles for the following reaction-diffusion equation with unbounded weight: $$ \partial_tu=Δu^m+|x|^σu^p, $$ posed in any space dimension $x\in\mathbf{R}^N$, $t\geq0$ and with exponents $m>1$, $p\in(0,1)$ and $σ>2(1-p)/(m-1)$. We prove that blow-up profiles in backward self-similar form exist for the indicated range of parameters, showing thus that the unbounded weight has a strong influence on the dynamics of the equation, merging with the nonlinear reaction in order to produce finite time blow-up. We also prove that all the blow-up profiles are \emph{com…
We consider several weak type estimates for singular operators using the Bellman function approach. We disprove the $A_1$ conjecture, thus strengthening the counterexamples built by Reguera--Thiele. We show a certain logarithmic blow-up for the end-point estimates of important weighted singular operators.
In the first part of this work we study the local well-posedness of dispersive equations in the weighted spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R})\cap L^2(|x|^{2b}dx)$. We then apply our results for several dispersive models such as the Hirota-Satsuma system, the OST equation, the Kawahara equation and a fifth-order model. Using these local results, the second part of this work is devoted to obtain results related to dispersive blow up of the Kawahara equation and the Hirota-Satsuma system.
We classify the self-similar blow-up profiles for the following reaction-diffusion equation with critical strong weighted reaction and unbounded weight: $$ \partial_tu=\partial_{xx}(u^m) + |x|^σu^p, $$ posed for $x\in\real$, $t\geq0$, where $m>1$, $0<p<1$ such that $m+p=2$ and $σ>2$ completing the analysis performed in a recent work where this very interesting critical case was left aside. We show that finite time blow-up solutions in self-similar form exist for $σ>2$. Moreover all the blow-up profiles have compact support and their supports are \emph{localized}: there exists an explicit $η>0$…
We study the blow up profiles associated to the following second order reaction-diffusion equation with non-homogeneous reaction: $$ \partial_tu=\partial_{xx}(u^m) + |x|^σu, $$ with $σ>0$. Through this study, we show that the non-homogeneous coefficient $|x|^σ$ has a strong influence on the blow up behavior of the solutions. First of all, it follows that finite time blow up occurs for self-similar solutions $u$, a feature that does not appear in the well known autonomous case $σ=0$. Moreover, we show that there are three different types of blow up self-similar profiles, depending on whether th…
We study the self-similar blow-up profiles associated to the following second order reaction-diffusion equation with strong weighted reaction and unbounded weight: $$ \partial_tu=\partial_{xx}(u^m) + |x|^σu^p, $$ posed for $x\in\real$, $t\geq0$, where $m>1$, $0<p<1$ and $σ>2(1-p)/(m-1)$. As a first outcome, we show that finite time blow-up solutions in self-similar form exist for $m+p>2$ and $σ$ in the considered range, a fact that is completely new: in the already studied reaction-diffusion equation without weights there is no finite time blow-up when $p<1$. We moreover prove that, if the con…
We consider the energy super critical semilinear heat equation $$\partial_t u=Δu+u^{p}, \ \ x\in \mathbb R^3, \ \ p>5.$$ We first revisit the construction of radially symmetric backward self similar solutions and propose a bifurcation type argument which allows for a sharp control of the spectrum of the corresponding linearized operator in suitable weighted spaces. We then show how the sole knowledge of this spectral gap in weighted spaces implies the finite codimensional non radial stability of these solutions for smooth well localized initial data using energy bounds. The whole scheme draws …
A degenerate fourth-order parabolic equation modeling condensation phenomena related to Bose-Einstein particles is analyzed. The model is a Fokker-Planck-type approximation of the Boltzmann-Nordheim equation, only keeping the leading order term. It maintains some of the main features of the kinetic model, namely mass and energy conservation and condensation at zero energy. The existence of local-in-time weak solutions satisfying a certain entropy inequality is proven. The main result asserts that if a weighted $L^1$ norm of the initial data is sufficiently large and the initial data satisfies …
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a locally finite connected weighted graph, $Δ$ be the usual graph Laplacian. In this paper, we study the blow-up problems for the nonlinear parabolic equation $u_t=Δu + f(u)$ on $G$. The blow-up phenomenons of the equation are discussed in terms of two cases: (i) an initial condition is given; (ii) a Dirichlet boundary condition is given. We prove that if $f$ satisfies appropriate conditions, then the solution of the equation blows up in a finite time.
The three-dimensional incompressible Boussinesq system is one of the important equations in fluid dynamics. The system describes the motion of temperature-dependent incompressible flows. And the temperature naturally has diffusion. Recently, Elgindi, Ghoul and Masmoudi constructed a $C^{1,α}$ finite time blow-up solutions for Euler systems with finite energy. Inspired by their works, we constructed $C^{1,α}$ finite time blow-up solution for Boussinesq equations where the temperature has diffusion and finite energy. Generally speaking, the diffusion of temperature smooths the solution of the sy…
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a locally finite, connected and weighted graph. We prove that, for a graph satisfying curvature dimension condition $CDE'(n,0)$ and uniform polynomial volume growth of degree $m$, all non-negative solutions of the equation $\partial_tu=Δu+u^{1+α}$ blow up in a finite time provided that $α=\frac{2}{m}$. We also consider the blow-up problem under certain conditions for volume growth and initial value. The obtained results provide a significant complement to the work by Lin and Wu in earlier paper.
We consider a class of singular weighted anisotropic $p$-Laplace equations. We provide sufficient condition on the weight function that may vanish or blow up near the origin to ensure the existence of at least one weak solution in the purely singular case and at least two different weak solutions in the purturbed singular case.
For Nicholson's blowflies equation, a kind of reaction-diffusion equations with time-delay, when the ratio of birth rate coefficient and death rate coefficient satisfies $\frac{p}δ>e$, the large time-delay $r>0$ usually causes the traveling waves to be oscillatory. In this paper, we are interested in the global stability of these oscillatory traveling waves, in particular, the challenging case of the critical traveling waves with oscillations. We prove that, the critical oscillatory traveling waves are globally stable with the algebraic convergence rate $t^{-1/2}$, and the non-critical traveli…
We present a rigorous analysis of the slow passage through a Turing bifurcation in the Swift-Hohenberg equation using a novel approach based on geometric blow-up. We show that the formally derived multiple scales ansatz which is known from classical modulation theory can be adapted for use in the fast-slow setting, by reformulating it as a blow-up transformation. This leads to dynamically simpler modulation equations posed in the blown-up space, via a formal procedure which directly extends the established approach to the time-dependent setting. The modulation equations take the form of non-au…

We study the impact of the convective terms on the global solvability or finite time blow up of solutions of dissipative PDEs. We consider the model examples of 1D Burger's type equations, convective Cahn-Hilliard equation, generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation and KdV type equations, we establish the following common scenario: adding sufficiently strong (in comparison with the destabilizing nonlinearity) convective terms to equation prevents the solutions from blowing up in finite time and makes the considered system globally well-posed and dissipative and for weak enough convective terms…
In this paper we present a weighted $L_p$-theory of second-order parabolic partial differential equations defined on $C^1$ domains. The leading coefficients are assumed to be measurable in time variable and have VMO (vanishing mean oscillation) or small BMO (bounded mean oscillation) with respect to space variables, and lower order coefficients are allowed to be unbounded and to blow up near the boundary. Our BMO condition is slightly relaxed than the others in the literature.
We exhibit a sufficient condition in terms of decay at infinity of the initial data for the finite time blowup of strong solutions to the Camassa--Holm equation: a wave breaking will occur as soon as the initial data decay faster at infinity than the solitons. In the case of data decaying slower than solitons we provide persistence results for the solution in weighted $L^p$-spaces, for a large class of moderate weights. Explicit asymptotic profiles illustrate the optimality of these results.
The initial boundary-value problem (IBVP) and the Cauchy problem for the Kuramoto--Sivashinsky equation and other related $2m$th-order semilinear parabolic partial differential equations in one and N dimensions are considered. Global existence and blow-up as well as uniform bounds are reviewed by using: (i) classic tools of interpolation theory and Galerkin methods, (ii) eigenfunction and nonlinear capacity methods, (iii) Henry's version of weighted Gronwall's inequalities, and (vi) two types of scaling (blow-up) arguments. For the IBVPs, existence of global solutions is proved for both Dirich…
We consider both divergence and non-divergence parabolic equations on a half space in weighted Sobolev spaces. All the leading coefficients are assumed to be only measurable in the time and one spatial variable except one coefficient, which is assumed to be only measurable either in the time or the spatial variable. As functions of the other variables the coefficients have small bounded mean oscillation (BMO) semi-norms. The lower-order coefficients are allowed to blow up near the boundary with a certain optimal growth condition. As a corollary, we also obtain the corresponding results for ell…
We study the Dirichlet problem for the stationary Schrödinger fractional Laplacian equation $(-Δ)^s u + V u = f$ posed in bounded domain $ Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$ with zero outside conditions. We consider general nonnegative potentials $V\in L^1_{loc}(Ω)$ and prove well-posedness of very weak solutions when the data are chosen in an optimal class of weighted integrable functions $f$. Important properties of the solutions, such as its boundary behaviour, are derived. The case of super singular potentials that blow up near the boundary is given special consideration. Related literature is commente…
This work concerns the semilinear wave equation in three space dimensions with a power-like nonlinearity which is greater than cubic, and not quintic (i.e. not energy-critical). We prove that a scale-invariant Sobolev norm of any non-scattering solution goes to infinity at the maximal time of existence. This gives a refinement on known results on energy-subcritical and energy-supercritical wave equation, with a unified proof. The proof relies on the channel of energy method, as in arXiv:1204.0031, in weighted scale-invariant Sobolev spaces which were introduced in arXiv:1506.00788. These space…
This paper is concerned with the global well-posedness and finite time blowup problem for the 3D focusing energy-critical inhomogeneous NLS. In the previous results \cite{chkl2, chkl3} the authors considered the same problems with the spatial inhomogeneity coefficient $g$ such that $g(x) \sim |x|^{-b}$ for $0 \le b < \frac43$. Here we extend the inhomogeneous index $b$ up to $\frac32$. For this purpose, we improve the local theory and develop a new profile decomposition based on weighted space.
We consider a degenerate chemotaxis model with two-species and two-stimuli in dimension $d\geq 3$ and find two critical curves intersecting at one same point which separate the global existence and blow up of weak solutions to the problem. More precisely, above these curves (i.e. subcritical case), the problem admits a global weak solution obtained by the limits of strong solutions to an approximated system. Based on the second moment of solutions, initial data are constructed to make sure blow up occurs in finite time below these curves (i.e. critical and supercritical cases). In addition, th…
We study the behaviour of smooth solutions to the wave equation, $\square_gψ=0$, in the interior of a fixed Schwarzschild black hole. In particular, we obtain a full asymptotic expansion for all solutions towards $r=0$ and show that it is characterised by its first two leading terms, the principal logarithmic term and a bounded second order term. Moreover, we characterise an open set of initial data for which the corresponding solutions blow up logarithmically on the entirety of the singular hypersurface $\{r=0\}$. Our method is based on deriving weighted energy estimates in physical space and…
In this paper, we are concerned with the weighted elliptic system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu=|x|^β v^{\vartheta},\\ -Δv=|x|^α |u|^{p-1}u, \end{cases}\quad \mbox{in}\;\ Ω, \end{equation*}where $Ω$ is a subset of $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \ge 5$, $α>-4$, $0 \le β\le \dfrac{N-4}{2}$, $p>1$ and $\vartheta=1$. We first apply Pohozaev identity to construct a monotonicity formula and find their certain equivalence relation. By the use of {\it Pohozaev identity}, {\it monotonicity formula} of solutions together with a {\it blowing down} sequence, we prove Liouville-type theorems of stable solutions …
We investigate the well-posedness in the generalized Hartree equation $iu_t + Δu + (|x|^{-(N-γ)} \ast |u|^p)|u|^{p-2}u=0$, $x \in \mathbb{R}^N$, $0<γ<N$, for low powers of nonlinearity, $p<2$. We establish the local well-posedness for a class of data in weighted Sobolev spaces, following ideas of Cazenave and Naumkin [6]. This crucially relies on the boundedness of the Riesz transform in weighted Lebesgue spaces. As a consequence, we obtain a class of data that exists globally, moreover, scatters in positive time. Furthermore, in the focusing case in the $L^2$-supercritical setting we obtain a…
We consider reaction-diffusion equations either posed on Riemannian manifolds or in the Euclidean weighted setting, with pow\-er-type nonlinearity and slow diffusion of porous medium time. We consider the particularly delicate case $p<m$ in problem (1.1), a case largely left open in [21] even when the initial datum is smooth and compactly supported. We prove global existence for L$^m$ data, and a smoothing effect for the evolution, i.e. that solutions corresponding to such data are bounded at all positive times with a quantitative bound on their L$^\infty$ norm. As a consequence of this fact a…
We first prove a weighted inequality of Moser-Trudinger type depending on a parameter, in the two-dimensional Euclidean space. The inequality holds for radial functions if the parameter is larger than -1. Without symmetry assumption, it holds if and only if the parameter is in the interval (-1,0]. The inequality gives us some insight on the symmetry breaking phenomenon for the extremal functions of the Hardy-Sobolev inequality, as established by Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg, in two space dimensions. In fact, for suitable sets of parameters (asymptotically sharp) we prove symmetry or symmetry brea…
We consider the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$i \partial_t u +Δu + |x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0,$$ where $N\geq 2$ and $σ$, $b>0$. We first obtain a small data global result in $H^1$, which, in the two spatial dimensional case, improves the third author result in [22] on the range of $b$. For $N\geq 3$ and $\frac{2-b}{N}<σ<\frac{2-b}{N-2}$, we also study the local well posedness in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1 $, where $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{2-b}{2σ}$. Sufficient conditions for global existence of solutions in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$ are also esta…
The non-existence of global solutions for semirelativistic equations with non-gauge invariant power type nonlinearity with mass is studied in the frame work of weighted $L^1$. In particular, a priori control of weighted integral of solutions is obtained by introducing a pointwise estimate of fractional derivative of some weight functions. Especially, small data blowup with small mass is obtained.
We construct the 'threshold manifold' near the soliton for the mass critical gKdV equation, completing results obtained in arXiv:1204.4625 and arXiv:1204.4624. In a neighborhood of the soliton, this C1 manifold of codimension one separates solutions blowing up in finite time and solutions in the 'exit regime'. On the manifold, solutions are global in time and converge locally to a soliton. In particular, the soliton behavior is strongly unstable by blowup.

We consider a class of dispersive and dissipative perturbations of the inviscid Burgers equation, which includes the fractional KdV equation of order $α$, and the fractal Burgers equation of order $β$, where $α, β\in [0,1)$, and the Whitham equation. For all $α, β\in [0,1)$, we construct solutions whose gradient blows up at a point, and whose amplitude stays bounded, which therefore display a "shock-like" singularity. We moreover provide an asymptotic description of the blow-up. To our knowledge, this constitutes the first proof of gradient blow-up for the fKdV equation in the range $α\in [2/3…
Backward stochastic partial differential equations of parabolic type with variable coefficients are considered in smooth domains. Existence and uniqueness results are given in weighted Sobolev spaces allowing the derivatives of the solutions to blow up near the boundary.
