We first prove a weighted inequality of Moser-Trudinger type depending on a parameter, in the two-dimensional Euclidean space. The inequality holds for radial functions if the parameter is larger than -1. Without symmetry assumption, it holds if and only if the parameter is in the interval (-1,0]. The inequality gives us some insight on the symmetry breaking phenomenon for the extremal functions of the Hardy-Sobolev inequality, as established by Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg, in two space dimensions. In fact, for suitable sets of parameters (asymptotically sharp) we prove symmetry or symmetry breaking by means of a blow-up method. In this way, the weighted Moser-Trudinger inequality appears as a limit case of the Hardy-Sobolev inequality.
We provide an explicit necessary condition to have that no extremal for the best constant in the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality is radially symmetric.
We establish a generalization to Riemannian manifolds of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality. The applied method is based on the use of conformal Killing vector fields and Enzo Mitidieri's approach to Hardy inequalities.
We mainly consider the general Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality in the Euclidean and Riemannian setting. In both cases, our proof relies mostly on a new parameter s conveniently introduced, see (2.7).
We introduce a notion of suitable weak solution of the hyperdissipative Navier-Stokes equations and we achieve a corresponding extension of the regularity theory of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg.
In this paper, using Mountain Pass Lemma and Linking Argument, we prove the existence of nontrivial weak solutions for the Dirichlet problem for the superlinear equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type in the case where the parameter $λ\in (0, λ_2)$, $λ_2$ is the second positive eigenvalue of the quasilinear elliptic equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type.
In this paper we prove some new symmetry results for the extremals of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities, in any dimension larger or equal than two.
We will establish the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities with non-doubling weights being permitted. The classical Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities are categorized into non-critical and critical cases, and it is known that there is some kind of mysterious relationship between them. Interestingly the new framework in this treatise allows them to be integrated and reveals the meaning of mysterious relationships.
In this paper some important inequalities are revisited. First, as motivation, we give another proof of the Hardy's inequality applying convenient vector fields as introduced by Mitidieri, see [6]. Then, we investigate a particular case of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg's inequality. Finally, we study the Rellic's inequality.
We prove a Caffarelli--Kohn--Nirenberg inequality in the hyperbolic space. For a semilinear elliptic equation involving the associated weighted Laplace--Beltrami operator, we establish variationally the existence of positive radial solutions in the subcritical regime. We also show a non-existence result in star-shaped domains when the exponent is supercritical.
We present a weighted version of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality in the framework of variable exponents. The combination of this inequality with a variant of the fountain theorem, yields the existence of infinitely many solutions for a class of non-homogeneous problems with Dirichlet boundary condition.
In this paper we prove the fractional Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality on homogeneous Lie groups. Also, we establish weighted fractional Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality and Lyapunov-type inequality for the Riesz potential on homogeneous Lie groups. The obtained Lyapunov inequality for the Riesz potential is new already in the classical setting of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$. As an application, we give two-sided estimate for the first eigenvalue of the Riesz potential. Also, we obtain Lyapunov inequality for the system of the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian equations and give an application to estimate it…
This paper is concerned with a class of quasilinear elliptic equations involving some potentials related to the Caffarelli-Korn-Nirenberg inequality. We prove the local boundedness and Hölder continuity of weak solutions by using the classical De Giorgi techniques. Our result extends the results of Serrin \cite{Serrin64} and Corolado and Peral \cite{CP04}.
In their simplest form, the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities are a two parameter family of inequalities. It has been known that there is a region in parameter space where the optimizers for the inequalities have broken symmetry. It has been shown recently that in the complement of this region the optimizers are radially symmetric. The ideas for the proof will be given.
We establish the full range Gagliardo-Nirenberg and the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities associated with Sobolev-Coulomb spaces for the (fractional) derivative $0 \leq s \leq 1$. As a result, we rediscover known Gaglairdo-Nirenberg interpolation type inequalities associated with Sobolev-Coulomb spaces which were previously established in the scale of $H^{s}$ with $0 < s \leq 1$ and extend them for the full range $W^{s, p}$ with $0\leq s \leq 1$ and $1 < p < + \infty$. Using these newly established weighted inequalities, we derive a new family of one body Hardy-Lieb-Thirring…
In this paper, we study the existence of multiple solutions to a Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type equation with asymptotically linear term at infinity. In this case, the well-known Ambrosetti-Rabinowtz type condition doesn't hold, hence it is difficult to verify the classical (PS)$_c$ condition. To overcome this difficulty, we use an equivalent version of Cerami's condition, which allows the more general existence result.
In this note we prove the reverse Stein-Weiss inequality on general homogeneous Lie groups. The obtained results extend previously known inequalities. Special properties of homogeneous norms and the reverse integral Hardy inequality play key roles in our proofs. Also, we show reverse Hardy, Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev, Lp-Sobolev and Lp-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities on homogeneous groups.
We consider a family of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities and weighted logarithmic Hardy inequalities which have been obtained recently as a limit case of the first ones. We discuss the ranges of the parameters for which the optimal constants are achieved by extremal functions. The comparison of these optimal constants with the optimal constants of Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities and Gross' logarithmic Sobolev inequality, both without weights, gives a general criterion for such an existence result in some particular cases.
We establish the full range of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities for radial functions in the Sobolev and the fractional Sobolev spaces of order $0 < s \le 1$. In particular, we show that the range of the parameters for radial functions is strictly larger than the one without symmetric assumption. Previous known results reveal only some special ranges of parameters even in the case $s=1$. Our proof is new and can be easily adapted to other contexts. Applications on compact embeddings are also mentioned.
In this paper we obtain weighted higher order Rellich, weighted Gagliardo-Nirenberg, Trudinger, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities and the uncertainty principle for Dunkl operators. Moreover, we introduce an extension of the classical Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Furthermore, we give an application of Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality to the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear damped wave equations for the Dunkl Laplacian.
We use a suitable transform related to Sobolev inequality to investigate the sharp constants and optimizers for some Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg-type inequalities which are related to the weighted $p$-Laplace equations. Moreover, we give the classification to the linearized problem related to the radial extremals. As an application, we investigate the gradient type remainder term of related inequality by using spectral estimate combined with a compactness argument which extends the work of Figalli and Zhang (Duke Math. J. 2022) at least for radial case.
In this paper we obtain Hardy, weighted Trudinger-Moser and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities with sharp constants on Riemannian manifolds with non-positive sectional curvature and, in particular, a variety of new estimates on hyperbolic spaces. Moreover, in some cases we also show their equivalence with Trudinger-Moser inequalities. As consequences, the relations between the constants of these inequalities are investigated yielding asymptotically best constants in the obtained inequalities. We also obtain the corresponding uncertainty type principles.
We take advantage of a rigidity result for the equation satisfied by an extremal function associated with a special case of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities to get a symmetry result for a larger set of inequali-ties. The main ingredient is a reparametrization of the solutions to the Euler-Lagrange equations and estimates based on the rigidity result. The symmetry results cover a range of parameters which go well beyond the one that can be achieved by symmetrization methods or comparison techniques so far.
By methods based on elementary Linear Algebra we obtain sharp constants in cases of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality via quasi-conformal changes of variables. Some of our results were obtained earlier by Lam and Lu. Our proofs are radical simplifications of earlier proofs. In the case $α>0$ we establish that we have symmetry breaking and optimizers to the CKN inequalities do not exist. This case was not treated by Lam and Lu. Our results thus are in the full parameter range of α.
The purpose of this paper is to explain the phenomenon of symmetry breaking for optimal functions in functional inequalities by the numerical computations of some well chosen solutions of the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations. For many of those inequalities it was believed that the only source of symmetry breaking would be the instability of the symmetric optimizer in the class of all admissible functions. But recently, it was shown by an indirect argument that for some Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities this conjecture was not true. In order to understand this new symmetry breaking m…
We use the formalism of the R{é}nyi entropies to establish the symmetry range of extremal functions in a family of subcriti-cal Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. By extremal functions we mean functions which realize the equality case in the inequalities, written with optimal constants. The method extends recent results on critical Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Using heuristics given by a nonlinear diffusion equation, we give a variational proof of a symmetry result, by establishing a rigidity theorem: in the symmetry region, all positive critical points have radial symmetry and…
We show that Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg first order interpolation inequalities as well as weighted trace inequalities in $\mathbb{R}^n \times \mathbb{R}_+$ admit a better range of power weights if we restrict ourselves to the space of radially symmetric functions.
We set up a one-parameter family of inequalities that contains both the Hardy inequalities (when the parameter is 1) and the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities (when the parameter is optimal). Moreover, we study these results with the exact remainders to provide direct understandings to the sharp constants, as well as the existence and non-existence of the optimizers of the Hardy inequalities and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. As an application of our identities, we establish some sharp versions with optimal constants and theirs attainability of the stability of the Heisenberg Unc…
Caffarelli, Kohn and Nirenberg considered in 1984 the interpolation inequalities \[\||x|^{γ_1}u\|_{L^s(\mathbb{R}^n)}\le C\||x|^{γ_2}\nabla u\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)}^a\||x|^{γ_3}u\|_{L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)}^{1-a} \] in dimension $n\ge 1$, and established necessary and sufficient conditions for which to hold under natural assumptions on the parameters. Motivated by our study of the asymptotic stability of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations, we consider a more general and improved anisotropic version of the interpolation inequalities \[ \||x|^{γ_1}|x'|^αu\|_{L^s(\mathbb{R}^n)}\le C\||x|^{γ_2}|x'|…
The paper provides weighted Sobolev inequalities of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type for functions with multi-radial symmetry. Similarly to the previously studied radial case, the range of parameters in CKN inequalities can be extended, sometimes to infinity, providing a pointwise estimate similar to the classical radial estimate. Furthermore, the "multi-radial" weights are a stronger singularity than radial weights of the same homogeneity.
We establish sharp remainder terms of the $L^{2}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Niren\-berg inequalities on homogeneous groups, yielding the inequalities with best constants. Our methods also give new sharp Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with arbitrary quasi-norms. We also present explicit examples to illustrate our results for different weights and in abelian cases.
In this paper we derive both local and global geometric inequalities on general Riemannnian and Finsler manifolds and prove generalized Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type and Hardy type inequalities on Finsler manifolds, illuminating curvatures of both Riemannian and Finsler manifolds influence geometric inequalities.
We consider positive critical points of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities and prove a Liouville type result which allows us to give a complete classification of the solutions in a certain range of parameters, providing a symmetry result for positive solutions. The governing operator is a weighted $p$-Laplace operator, which we consider for a general $p \in (1,d)$. For $p=2$, the symmetry breaking region for extremals of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities was completely characterized in [J. Dolbeault, M. Esteban, M. Loss, Invent. Math. 44 (2016)]. Our results extend this result to a ge…
In this paper we study the following class of nonlocal {problems} involving Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type critical growth \begin{align*} L(u)&-λh(x)|x|^{-2(1+a)}u=μf(x)|u|^{q-2}u+|x|^{-pb}|u|^{p-2}u\;\; \text{in } \mathbb R^N, \end{align*} where $h(x)\geq 0$, $f(x)$ is a continuous function which may change sign, $λ, μ$ are positive real parameters and $1<q<2$, $4< p=2N/[N+2(b-a)-2]$, $0\leq a<b<a+1<N/2$, $N\geq 3$. Here $$ L(u)=-M\left(\int_{\mathbb R^N} |x|^{-2a}|\nabla u|^2dx\right)\mathrm {div}(|x|^{-2a}\nabla u) $$ and the function $M:\mathbb R^+\cup \{0\} \to\mathbb R^+$ is exactly as i…
We consider the Grushin type operator on $\mathbb{R}^{d}_x \times \mathbb{R}^{k}_y$ with the form \begin{equation*} G_μ=\overset{d}{\underset{i=1}{\sum}}\partial_{x_i}^2+\left(\overset{d}{\underset{i=1}{\sum}}x_i^2\right)^{2μ}\overset{k}{\underset{j=1}{\sum}}\partial_{y_j}^2. \end{equation*} and derive weighted Hardy-Sobolev type inequalities and weighted Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities related to $G_μ$.
We prove $L^{p}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities on homogeneous groups, which is one of most general subclasses of nilpotent Lie groups, all with sharp constants. We also discuss some of their consequences. Already in the abelian case of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ our results provide new insights in view of the arbitrariness of the choice of the not necessarily Euclidean quasi-norm.
This note relies mainly on a refined version of the main results of the paper by F. Catrina and D. Costa (J. Differential Equations 2009). We provide very short and self-contained proofs. Our results are sharp and minimizers are obtained in suitable functional spaces. As main tools we use the so-called \textit{expand of squares} method to establish sharp weighted $L^{2}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg (CKN) inequalities and density arguments.
We find for small $ε$ positive solutions to the equation \[-\textrm{div} (|x|^{-2a}\nabla u)-\displaystyle{\fracλ{|x|^{2(1+a)}}} u= \Big(1+εk(x)\Big)\frac{u^{p-1}}{|x|^{bp}}\] in ${\mathbb{R}}^N$, which branch off from the manifold of minimizers in the class of radial functions of the corresponding Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequality. Moreover, our analysis highlights the symmetry-breaking phenomenon in these inequalities, namely the existence of non-radial minimizers.
We prove an extension of the Stein-Weiss weighted estimates for fractional integrals, in the context of $L^{p}$ spaces with different integrability properties in the radial and the angular direction. In this way, the classical estimates can be unified with their improved radial versions. A number of consequences are obtained: in particular we deduce precised versions of weighted Sobolev embeddings, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg estimates, and Strichartz estimates for the wave equation, which extend the radial improvements to the case of arbitrary functions.
The present work has as a first goal to extend the previous results in \cite{CFL20} to weighted uncertainty principles with nontrivial radially symmetric weights applied to curl-free vector fields. Part of these new inequalities generalize the family of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg (CKN) inequalities studied by Catrina and Costa in \cite{CC} from scalar fields to curl-free vector fields. We will apply a new representation of curl-free vector fields developed by Hamamoto in \cite{HT21}. The newly obtained results are also sharp and minimizers are completely described. Secondly, we prove new sharp …

In this paper, we present a version of horizontal weighted Hardy-Rellich type and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities on stratified groups and study some of their consequences. Our results reflect on many results previously known in special cases. Moreover, a new simple proof of the Badiale-Tarantello conjecture [2] on the best constant of a Hardy type inequality is provided. We also show a family of Poincaré inequalities as well as inequalities involving the weighted and unweighted $p$-sub-Laplacians.
