It is well known that for a Hausdorff topological group $X$, the limits of convergent sequences in $X$ define a function denoted by $\lim$ from the set of all convergent sequences in $X$ to $X$. This notion has been modified by Connor and Grosse-Erdmann for real functions by replacing $\lim$ with an arbitrary linear functional $G$ defined on a linear subspace of the vector space of all real sequences. Recently some authors have extended the concept to the topological group setting and introduced the concepts of $G$-continuity, $G$-compactness and $G$-connectedness. In this paper we prove some results on different types of $G$-compactness for topological group with operations which include topological groups, topological rings without identity, R-modules, Lie algebras, Jordan algebras, and many others.
We give a definition of compactness in L-fuzzy topological spaces and provide a characterization of compact L-fuzzy topological spaces, where L is a complete quasi-monoidal lattice with some additional structures, and we present a version of Tychonoff's theorem within the category of L-fuzzy topological spaces.
We begin the study of the consequences of the existence of certain infinite matrices. Our present application is to compactness of products of topological spaces.
We find many conditions equivalent to the model-theoretical property $λ\stackrelκ{\Rightarrow} μ$ introduced in [L1]. Our conditions involve uniformity of ultrafilters, compactness properties of products of topological spaces and the existence of certain infinite matrices.
In this paper we give sufficient conditions under which a subsemigroup of a topological group is a subgroup, adding to the results given in \cite{Kosh, can, axioms, forum, Hof, cc, locally} where conditions exist (such as locally compactness, compactness, feeble compactness and sequential compactness) for a semigroup to be a group. In our work we proved that closed precompact subsemigroups of topological groups are semigroups, just like open pseudocompact monoids of topological groups.
We generalize the results from "P. Lipparini, Productive $[λ,μ]$-compactness and regular ultrafilters, Topology Proceedings, 21 (1996), 161--171"; in particular the present results apply to singular cardinals, too.
If $\mathcal P$ is a family of filters over some set $I$, a topological space $X$ is \emph{sequencewise $\mathcal P$-\brfrt compact} if, for every $I$-indexed sequence of elements of $X$, there is $F \in \mathcal P$ such that the sequence has an $F$-limit point. Countable compactness, sequential compactness, initial $κ$-compactness, $[ λ,μ]$-compactness, the Menger and Rothberger properties can all be expressed in terms of sequencewise $\mathcal P$-compactness, for appropriate choices of $\mathcal P$. We show that sequencewise $\mathcal P$-compactness is preserved under taking products if and …
Several mathematicians, including myself, have studied some unifications in general topological spaces as well as in fuzzy topological spaces. For instance in our earlier works, using operations on topological spaces, we have tried to unify some concepts similar to continuity, openness, closedness of functions, compactness, filter convergence, closedness of graphs, countable compactness and Lindelof property. In this article, to obtain further unifications, we will study $ϕ_{1,2}$-compactness and relations between $ϕ_{1,2}$-compactness, filters and $ϕ_{1,2}$% -closure operator.
We discuss the existence of complete accumulation points of sequences in products of topological spaces. Then we collect and generalize many of the results proved in Parts I, II and IV. The present Part VI is complementary to Part V to the effect that here we deal, say, with uniformity, complete accumulation points and $ κ$-$(λ)$-compactness, rather than with regularity, $[ λ, μ]$-compactness and $ κ$-$ (λ, μ)$-compactness. Of course, if we restrict ourselves to regular cardinals, Parts V (for $ λ= μ$) and Part VI essentially coincide.
The omega limit sets plays a fundamental role to construct global attractors for topological semi-dynamical systems with continuous time or discrete time. Therefore, it is important to know when omega limit sets become nonempty compact sets. The purpose of this paper is to understand the mechanism under which a given net of subsets of topological spaces is compact in the asymptotic sense. For this purpose, we introduce the notion of asymptotic compactness for nets of subsets and study the connection with the compactness of the limit sets. In this paper, for a given net of nonempty subsets, we …
One of the main obstacle to study compactness in topological spaces via ideals was the definition of ideal convergence of subsequences as in the existing literature according to which subsequence of an ideal convergent sequence may fail to be ideal convergent with respect to same ideal. This obstacle has been get removed in this article and notions of I compactness as well as I star compactness of topological spaces have been introduced and studied to some extent. Involvement of I nonthin subsequences in the definition of I and I star compactness make them different from compactness even in me…
We characterize ultrafilter convergence and ultrafilter compactness in linearly ordered and generalized ordered topological spaces. In such spaces, and for every ultrafilter $D$, the notions of $D$-compactness and of $D$-pseudocompactness are equivalent. Any product of initially $λ$-compact generalized ordered topological spaces is still initially $λ$-compact. On the other hand, preservation under products of certain compactness properties are independent from the usual axioms for set theory.

We show that a linearly ordered topological space is initially λ-compact if and only if it is λ-bounded, that is, every set of cardinality $\leq λ$ has compact closure. As a consequence, every product of initially λ-compact linearly ordered topological spaces is initially λ-compact.
A generalized topology in a set $X$ is a collection $\text{Cov}_X$ of families of subsets of $X$ such that the triple $(X,\bigcup \text{Cov}_X,\text{Cov}_X)$ is a generalized topological space in the sense of Delfs and Knebusch. In this work, notions of topological and admissible compactness of generalized topologies are introduced to begin and investigate a theory of compactifications, in particular, of Wallman type in the category of weakly normal generalized topological spaces. Among other facts, we prove in ZF that the ultrafilter theorem (in abbreviation UFT) holds if and only if all Wall…
We prove that the Smyth powerspace Q(X) of a topological space X is core-compact if and only if X is locally compact. As a straightforward consequence we obtain that the Smyth powerspace construction does not preserve core-compactness generally.
We investigate two approximation relations on a T0 topological space, the n-approximation, and the d-approximation, which are generalizations of the way-below relation on a dcpo. Different kinds of continuous spaces are defined by the two approximations and are all shown to be directed spaces. We show that the continuity of a directed space is very similar to the continuity of a dcpo in many aspects, which indicates that the notion of directed spaces is a suitable topological extension of dcpos. The main results are: (1) A topological space is continuous iff it is a retract of an algebraic spac…
We prove that many completeness properties coincide in metric spaces, precompact groups and dense subgroups of products of separable metric groups. We apply these results to function spaces C_p(X,G) of G-valued continuous functions on a space X with the topology of pointwise convergence, for a separable metric group G. Not only the results but also the proofs themselves are novel even in the classical case when G is the real line. A space X is weakly pseudocompact if it is G_delta-dense in at least one of its compactifications. A topological group G is precompact if it is topologically isomorp…
Let S be a topological property of sequences (such as, for example, "to contain a convergent subsequence" or "to have an accumulation point"). We introduce the following open-point game OP(X,S) on a topological space X. In the n'th move, Player A chooses a non-empty open subet U_n of X, and Player B responds by selecting a point x_n in U_n. Player B wins the game if the sequence (x_n) satisfies property S in X; otherwise, Player A wins. The (non-)existence of regular or stationary winning strategies in OP(X,S) for both players defines new compactness properties of the underlying space X. We th…
We consider classes T of topological spaces (referred to as T-spaces) that are stable under continuous images and frequently under arbitrary products. A local T-space has for each point a neighborhood base consisting of subsets that are T-spaces in the induced topology. A general necessary and sufficient criterion for a product of topological spaces to be a local T-space in terms of conditions on the factors enables one to establish a broad variety of theorems saying that a product of spaces has a certain local property (like local compactness, local sequential compactness, local σ-compactness…
In this paper we examine two basic topological properties of partial metric spaces, namely compactness and completeness. Our main result claims that in these spaces compactness is equivalent to sequential compactness. We also show that Hausdorff compact partial metric spaces are metrizable. In the second part of this article we discuss the significance of bottom sets of partial metric spaces in fixed point theorems for mappings acting in these spaces.
In a metric space, such as the real numbers with their standard metric, a set A is open if and only if no sequence with terms outside of A has a limit inside A. Moreover, a metric space is compact if and only if every sequence has a converging subsequence. However, in a general topological space these equivalences may fail. Unfortunately this fact is sometimes overlooked in introductory courses on general topology, leaving many students with misconceptions, e.g. that compactness would always be equal to sequence compactness. The aim of this article is to show how sequences might fail to charac…
We show that, under suitably general formulations, covering properties, accumulation properties and filter convergence are all equivalent notions. This general correspondence is exemplified in the study of products. Let $X$ be a product of topological spaces. We prove that $X$ is sequentially compact if and only if all subproducts by $\leq \mathfrak s$ factors are sequentially compact. If $\mathfrak s = \mathfrak h$, then $X$ is sequentially compact if and only if all factors are sequentially compact and all but at most $<\mathfrak s$ factors are ultraconnected. We give a topological proof of …
In the paper we study the preservation of pseudocompactness (resp., countable compactness, sequential compactness, $ω$-boundedness, totally countable compactness, countable pracompactness, sequential pseudocompactness) by Tychonoff products of pseudocompact (and countably compact) to\-pological Brandt $λ_i^0$-extensions of semitopological monoids with zero. In particular we show that if $\big\{ \big(B^0_{λ_i}(S_i),τ^0_{B(S_i)}\big) \colon i\in\mathscr{I}\big\}$ is a family of Hausdorff pseudocompact to\-pological Brandt $λ_i^0$-extensions of pseudocompact semitopological monoids with zero such…
This paper concerns the compactness and separability properties of the normed Boolean algebras (N.B.A.) with respect to topology generated by a distance equal to the square root of a measure of symmetric difference between two elements. The motivation arises from studying random elements talking values in N.B.A. Those topological properties are important assumptions that enable us to avoid possible difficulties when generalising concepts of random variable convergence, the definition of conditional law and others. For each N.B.A., there exists a finite measure space $(E, {\mathcal E}, μ)$ such…
Let $X$ be a first countable Hausdorff topological group. The limit of a sequence in $X$ defines a function denoted by $lim$ from the set of all convergence sequences to $X$. This definition was modified by Connor and Grosse-Erdmann for real functions by replacing $lim$ with an arbitrary linear functional $G$ defined on a linear subspace of the vector space of all real sequences. Çakallı extended the concept to topological group setting and introduced the concept of $G$-sequential compactness and investigated $G$-sequential continuity and $G$-sequential compactness in topological groups. In th…
In this paper we have shown that a double sequence in a topological space satisfies certain conditions which in turn are capable to generate a topology on a non empty set. Also we have used the idea of I-convergence of double sequences to study the idea of I-sequentially compactness [3] in the sense of double sequences.
Let $X$ be a locally compact topological space, $(Y,d)$ be a boundedly compact metric space and $LB(X,Y)$ be the space of all locally bounded functions from $X$ to $Y$. We characterize compact sets in $LB(X,Y)$ equipped with the topology of uniform convergence on compacta. From our results we obtain the following interesting facts for $X$ compact: $\bullet$ If $(f_n)_n$ is a sequence of uniformly bounded finitely equicontinuous functions of Baire class $α$ from $X$ to $\Bbb R$, then there is a uniformly convergent subsequence $(f_{n_k})_k$; $\bullet$ If $(f_n)_n$ is a sequence of uniformly bou…

Semigroups generated by topological operations such as closure, interior or boundary are considered. It is noted that some of these semigroups are in general finite and noncommutative. The problem is formulated whether they are always finite.

We show that for any discrete semigroup $X$ the semigroup operation can be extended to a right-topological semigroup operation on the space $G(X)$ of inclusion hyperspaces on $X$. We detect some important subsemigroups of $G(X)$, study the minimal ideal, the (topological) center, left cancelable elements of $G(X)$, and describe the structure of the semigroups $G(\IZ_n)$ for small numbers $n$.
We prove that the existence of $\mathfrak{c}$ incomparable selective ultrafilters implies the existence of a Wallace semigroup whose cube is countably compact. In addition, assuming the existence of $2^{\mathfrak c}$ incomparable selective ultrafilters and $2^{< 2^{\mathfrak{c}}} = 2^{\mathfrak{c}}$, we obtain torsion-free topological groups with respect to Comfort's question on the countable compactness of (infinite) powers of a topological group.
In this article, we consider $\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence to define a new concept of convergence namely, $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence which generalizes the notion of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}$-convergence introduced by Guevara et al. \cite{GSR20} recently. Some properties of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence of sequences and its relation with compact sets are discussed. In particular, we investigate the relation between semi-compactness and semi-Lindeloffness by introducing the notion of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-cluster point of…
Given a continuous monadic functor T in the category of Tychonov spaces for each discrete topological semigroup X we extend the semigroup operation of X to a right-topological semigroup operation on TX whose topological center contains the dense subsemigroup of all elements of TX that have finite support.
It is a simple fact that a subgroup generated by a subset $A$ of an abelian group is the direct sum of the cyclic groups $\langle a\rangle$, $a\in A$ if and only if the set $A$ is independent. In [5] the concept of an $independent$ set in an abelian group was generalized to a $topologically$ $independent$ $set$ in a topological abelian group (these two notions coincide in discrete abelian groups). It was proved that a topological subgroup generated by a subset $A$ of an abelian topological group is the Tychonoff direct sum of the cyclic topological groups $\langle a\rangle$, $a\in A$ if and on…
A group $G$ is called hereditarily non-topologizable if, for every $H\le G$, no quotient of $H$ admits a non-discrete Hausdorff topology. We construct first examples of infinite hereditarily non-topologizable groups. This allows us to prove that c-compactness does not imply compactness for topological groups. We also answer several other open questions about c-compact groups asked by Dikranjan and Uspenskij. On the other hand, we suggest a method of constructing topologizable groups based on generic properties in the space of marked $k$-generated groups. As an application, we show that there e…
