In this note, we give a new proof of Liggett's theorem on the invariant measures of independent particle systems from [Lig78] in the particular case of independent drifted Brownian motions. This particular case has received a lot of attention recently due to its applications for the analysis of the local extrema of discrete Gaussian free field. The novelty of our proof is that it identifies directly the expected Poisson Point Process with exponential intensity without relying on the Choquet-Deny convolution equation $μ* P=μ$ ([ChoquetDeny60,Deny60]).
We raise a question on whether a dynamical system driven by Markov process is Markovian, for which we are able to propose a criterion and examples of positive case. This investigation leads us to develop (i) a general construction of intertwining dual via Liggett duality, and (ii) a realization of $Λ$-linked coupling in a form of dynamical system. We show this construction of intertwining dual and $Λ$-linked coupling for an $n$-dimensional drifting Brownian motion when it is a characteristic diffusion. In particular, it includes an extension of Pitman's $2M-W$ theorem by Rogers and Pitman as a…
An unbiased shift of the two-sided Brownian motion $(B_t \colon t\in{\mathbb R})$ is a random time $T$ such that $(B_{T+t} \colon t\in{\mathbb R})$ is still a two-sided Brownian motion. Given a pair $μ, ν$ of orthogonal probability measures, an unbiased shift $T$ solves the embedding problem, if $B_0\simμ$ implies $B_{T}\simν$. A solution to this problem was given by Last et al. (2014), based on earlier work of Bertoin and Le Jan (1992), and Holroyd and Liggett (2001). In this note we show that this solution minimises ${\mathbb E} ψ(T)$ over all nonnegative unbiased solutions $T$, simultaneous…
We review probabilistic approaches to the Gross-Pitaevskii theory describing interacting dilute systems of particles. The main achievement are large deviations principles for the mean occupation measure of a large system of interacting Brownian motions in a trapping potential. The corresponding rate functions are given as variational problems whose solution provide effective descriptions of the infinite system.
We study the joint asymptotic behavior of spacings between particles at the edge of multilevel Dyson Brownian motions, when the number of levels tends to infinity. Despite the global interactions between particles in multilevel Dyson Brownian motions, we observe a decoupling phenomenon in the limit: the global interactions become negligible and only the local interactions remain. The resulting limiting objects are interacting particle systems which can be described as Brownian versions of certain totally asymmetric exclusion processes. This is the first appearance of a particle system with loc…
We consider a system of infinitely many interacting Brownian motions that models the height of a one-dimensional interface between two bulk phases. We prove that the large scale fluctuations of the system are well approximated by the solution to the KPZ equation provided the microscopic interaction is weakly asymmetric. The proof is based on the martingale solutions of Goncalves and Jara and the corresponding uniqueness result of Gubinelli and Perkowski.
We investigate the construction of diffusions consisting of infinitely numerous Brownian particles moving in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and interacting via logarithmic functions (two-dimensional Coulomb potentials). These potentials are very strong and act over a long range in nature. The associated equilibrium states are no longer Gibbs measures. We present general results for the construction of such diffusions and, as applications thereof, construct two typical interacting Brownian motions with logarithmic interaction potentials, namely the Dyson model in infinite dimensions and Ginibre interacting Bro…
This paper presents our study of the asymptotic behavior of a two-component system of Brownian motions undergoing certain singular interactions. In particular, the system is a combination of two different types of particles and the mechanical properties and interaction parameters depend on the corresponding type of particles. We prove that the hydrodynamic limit of the empirical densities of two types is the solution of a certain quasi-linear parabolic partial differential equation known as the Maxwell-Stefan equation.
We solve infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations (ISDEs) describing an infinite number of Brownian particles interacting via two-dimensional Coulomb potentials. The equilibrium states of the associated unlabeled stochastic dynamics are the Ginibre random point field and Dyson's measures, which appear in random matrix theory. To solve the ISDEs we establish an integration by parts formula for these measures. Because the long-range effect of two-dimensional Coulomb potentials is quite strong, the properties of Brownian particles interacting with two-dimensional Coulomb potentials …
This paper is based on the talk in "Probability Symposium" at Research Institute of Mathematical Sciences (Kyoto University) on 2013/12/18, and gives an announcement of some parts of the results in [1,8,10,11]. We show two instances of dynamical rigidity of Ginibre interacting Brownian motion in infinite dimensions. This stochastic dynamics is given by the infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equation describing infinite-many Brownian particles in the plane interacting through two-dimensional Coulomb potential. The first dynamical rigidity is that the Ginibre interacting Brownian motio…
We introduce $n$-parameter $\Rd$-valued Brownian-time Brownian sheet (BTBS): a Brownian sheet where each "time" parameter is replaced with the modulus of an independent Brownian motion. We then connect BTBS to a new system of $n$ linear, fourth order, and interacting PDEs and to a corresponding fourth order interacting nonlinear PDE. The coupling phenomenon is a result of the interaction between the Brownian sheet, through its variance, and the Brownian motions in the BTBS; and it leads to an intricate, intriguing, and random field generalization of our earlier Brownian-time-processes (BTPs) c…
We establish the large deviation principle (LDP) for stochastic flows of interacting Brownian motions. In particular, we consider smoothly correlated flows, coalescing flows and Brownian motion stopped at a hitting moment.
Lately, many phenomena in both applied and abstract mathematics and related disciplines have been expressed in terms of high order and fractional PDEs. Recently, Allouba introduced the Brownian-time Brownian sheet (BTBS) and connected it to a new system of fourth order interacting PDEs. The interaction in this multiparameter BTBS-PDEs connection is novel, leads to an intimately-connected linear system variant of the celebrated Kuramoto-Sivashinsky PDE, and is not shared with its one-time-parameter counterpart. It also means that these PDEs systems are to be solved for a family of functions, a …
We present general theorems solving the long-standing problem of the existence and pathwise uniqueness of strong solutions of infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations (ISDEs) called interacting Brownian motions. These ISDEs describe the dynamics of infinite-many Brownian particles moving in $ \mathbb{R}^d $ with free potential $ Φ$ and mutual interaction potential $ Ψ$. We apply the theorems to essentially all interaction potentials of Ruelle's class such as the Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential and Riesz potentials, and to logarithmic potentials appearing in random matrix theory. We …
We give a new sufficient condition of the quasi-Gibbs property. This result is a refinement of one given in a previous paper (\cite{o.rm}), and will be used in a forth coming paper to prove the quasi-Gibbs property of Airy random point fields (RPFs) and other RPFs appearing under soft-edge scaling. The quasi-Gibbs property of RPFs is one of the key ingredients to solve the associated infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equation (ISDE). Because of the divergence of the free potentials and the interactions of the finite particle approximation under soft-edge scaling, the result of the p…
We prove the Large Deviation Principle for the empirical process in a system of locally interacting Brownian motions in the nonequilibrium dynamic. Such a phenomenon has been proven only for two lattice systems: the symmetric simple exclusion process and zero-range process. Therefore, we have achieved the third result in this context and moreover the first result for the diffusion-type interacting particle system.
We investigate the behaviour of a finite chain of Brownian particles, interacting through a pairwise quadratic potential, with one end of the chain fixed and the other end pulled away at slow speed, in the limit of slow speed and small Brownian noise. We study the instant when the chain "breaks", that is, the distance between two neighboring particles becomes larger than a certain limit. There are three different regimes depending on the relation between the speed of pulling and the Brownian noise. We prove weak limit theorems for the break time and the break position for each regime.
We prove that self-diffusion constants of interacting Brownian particles in $ \mathbb{R}$ always vanish if the particles do not collide with each other. We represent self-diffusion constants by additive functionals of reversible Markov processes as obtained in O. 1998.
Consider a negatively drifted one dimensional Brownian motion starting at positive initial position, its first hitting time to 0 has the inverse Gaussian law. Moreover, conditionally on this hitting time, the Brownian motion up to that time has the law of a 3- dimensional Bessel bridge. In this paper, we give a generalization of this result to a family of Brownian motions with interacting drifts, indexed by the vertices of a conductance network. The hitting times are equal in law to the inverse of a random potential that appears in the analysis of a self-interacting process called the Vertex R…
The Dirichlet forms related to various infinite systems of interacting Brownian motions are studied. For a given random point field $ μ$, there exist two natural infinite-volume Dirichlet forms $ (\mathcal{E}^{\mathsf{upr}},\mathcal{D}^{\mathsf{upr}})$ and $(\mathcal{E}^{\mathsf{lwr}},\mathcal{D}^{\mathsf{lwr}})$ on $ L^2(\mathsf{S} ,μ) $ describing interacting Brownian motions each with unlabeled equilibrium state $ μ$. The former is a decreasing limit of a scheme of such finite-volume Dirichlet forms, and the latter is an increasing limit of another scheme of such finite-volume Dirichlet for…
We give a derivation of tagged particle processes from unlabeled interacting Brownian motions. We give a criteria of the non-explosion property of tagged particle processes. We prove the quasi-regularity of Dirichlet forms describing the environment seen from the tagged particle, which were used in previous papers to prove the invariance principle of tagged particles of interacting Brownian motions.
Fisher-KPP equation is proved to be the scaling limit of a system of Brownian particles with local interaction. Particles proliferate and die depending on the local concentration of other particles. Opposite to discrete models, controlling concentration of particles is a major difficulty in Brownian particle interaction; local interactions instead of mean field or moderate ones makes it more difficult to implement the law of large numbers properties. The approach taken here to overcome these difficulties is largely inspired by A. Hammond and F. Rezakhanlou [10] implemented there in the mean fr…
We prove the sets of polynomials on configuration spaces are cores of Dirichlet forms describing interacting Brownian motion in infinite dimensions. Typical examples of these stochastic dynamics are Dyson's Brownian motion and Airy interacting Brownian motion. Both particle systems have logarithmic interaction potentials, and naturally arise from random matrix theory. The results of the present paper will be used in a forth coming paper to prove the identity of the infinite-dimensional stochastic dynamics related to the random matrix theories constructed by apparently different methods: the me…
We consider two particles performing continuous-time nearest neighbor random walk on $\mathbb Z$ and interacting with each other when they are at neighboring positions. Typical examples are two particles in the partial exclusion process or in the inclusion process. We provide an exact formula for the Laplace-Fourier transform of the transition probabilities of the two-particle dynamics. From this we derive a general scaling limit result, which shows that the possible scaling limits are coalescing Brownian motions, reflected Brownian motions, and sticky Brownian motions. In particle systems wit…
We are interested in the analysis of Gibbs measures defined on two independent Brownian paths in $\mathbb R^d$ interacting through a mutual self-attraction. This is expressed by the Hamiltonian $\int\int_{\mathbb R^{2d}} V(x-y) μ(d x)ν(d y)$ with two probability measures $μ$ and $ν$ representing the occupation measures of two independent Brownian motions. We will be interested in class of potentials $V$ which are {\it{singular}}, e.g., Dirac or Coulomb type interactions in $\mathbb R^3$, or the correlation function of the parabolic Anderson problem with white noise potential. The mutual intera…
We consider a finite or countable collection of one-dimensional Brownian particles whose dynamics at any point in time is determined by their rank in the entire particle system. Using Transportation Cost Inequalities for stochastic processes we provide uniform fluctuation bounds for the ordered particles, their local time of collisions, and various associated statistics over intervals of time. For example, such processes, when exponentiated and rescaled, exhibit power law decay under stationarity; we derive concentration bounds for the empirical estimates of the index of the power law over lar…
We consider a system of interacting Brownian particles in R^d with a pairwise potential, which is radially symmetric, of finite range and attains a unique minimum when the distance of two particles becomes a>0. The asymptotic behavior of the system is studied under the zero temperature limit from both microscopic and macroscopic aspects. If the system is rigidly crystallized, namely if the particles are rigidly arranged in an equal distance a, the crystallization is kept under the evolution in macroscopic time scale. Then, assuming that the crystal has a definite limit shape under a macroscopi…
We study the zero temperature limit for interacting Brownian particles in one dimension with a pairwise potential which is of finite range and attains a unique minimum when the distance of two particles becomes a>0. We say a chain is formed when the particles are arranged in an ``almost equal'' distance a. If a chain is formed at time 0, so is for positive time as the temperature of the system decreases to 0 and, under a suitable macroscopic space-time scaling, the center of mass of the chain performs the Brownian motion with the speed inversely proportional to the total mass. If there are two…
We consider systems of Brownian particles in the space of positive definite matrices, which evolve independently apart from some simple interactions. We give examples of such processes which have an integrable structure. These are related to $K$-Bessel functions of matrix argument and multivariate generalisations of these functions. The latter are eigenfunctions of a particular quantisation of the non-Abelian Toda chain.
We prove the convergence of $ \nN $-particle systems of Brownian particles with logarithmic interaction potentials onto a system described by the infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equation (ISDE). % For this proof we present two general theorems on the finite-particle approximations of interacting Brownian motions. % In the first general theorem, we present a sufficient condition for a kind of tightness of solutions of stochastic differential equations (SDE) describing finite-particle systems, and prove that the limit points solve the corresponding ISDE. This implies, if in addition…
We use generalized Ray-Knight theorems introduced by Bálint Tóth in 1996 together with techniques developed for excited random walks as main tools for establishing positive and negative results concerning convergence of some classes of diffusively scaled self-interacting random walks (SIRWs) to Brownian motions perturbed at extrema (BMPE). Tóth's work studied two classes of SIRWs: asymptotically free and polynomially self-repelling walks. For both classes Toth has shown, in particular, that the distribution function of a scaled SIRW observed at independent geometric times converges to that of …
A simple derivation of Spitzer'z asymptotic law for Brownian windings [Trans.Am.Math.Soc.87,187 (1958)]is presented along with its generalizations >.These include the cases of planar Brownian walks interacting with a single puncture and Brownian walks on a single truncated cone with variable conical angle interacting with the truncated conical tip.Such situations are typical in the theories of quantum Hall effect and 2+1 quantum gravity, respectively .They also have some applications in polymer physics
We can view Brownian sheet as a sequence of interacting Brownian motions or slices. Here we present a number of results about the slices of the sheet. A common feature of our results is that they exhibit phase transition. In addition, a number of open problems are presented.
A class of interacting particle systems on $\mathbb{Z}$, involving instantaneously annihilating or coalescing nearest neighbour random walks, are shown to be Pfaffan point processes for all deterministic initial conditions. As diffusion limits, explicit Pfaffan kernels are derived for a variety of coalescing and annihilating Brownian systems. For Brownian motions on $\mathbb{R}$, depending on the initial conditions, the corresponding kernels are closely related to the bulk and edge scaling limits of the Pfaffan point process for real eigenvalues for the real Ginibre ensemble of random matrices…
We introduce two probabilistic models for $N$ interacting Brownian motions moving in a trap in $\mathbb {R}^d$ under mutually repellent forces. The two models are defined in terms of transformed path measures on finite time intervals under a trap Hamiltonian and two respective pair-interaction Hamiltonians. The first pair interaction exhibits a particle repellency, while the second one imposes a path repellency. We analyze both models in the limit of diverging time with fixed number $N$ of Brownian motions. In particular, we prove large deviations principles for the normalized occupation measu…
We study interacting systems of linear Brownian motions whose drift vector at every time point is determined by the relative ranks of the coordinate processes at that time. Our main objective has been to study the long range behavior of the spacings between the Brownian motions arranged in increasing order. For finitely many Brownian motions interacting in this manner, we characterize drifts for which the family of laws of the vector of spacings is tight, and show its convergence to a unique stationary joint distribution given by independent exponential distributions with varying means. We als…
We consider a system of real-valued spins interacting with each other through a mean-field Hamiltonian that depends on the empirical magnetization of the spins via a general potential. The system is subjected to a stochastic dynamics where the spins perform independent Brownian motions. As in \cite{FedHoMa13}, which considers the Curie-Weiss model with Ising spins interacting via a quadratic potential and subjected to independent spins flips, we follow the program outlined in \cite{vEFedHoRe10}. We show that in the thermodynamic limit the system is non-Gibbs at time $t \in (0,\infty)$ if and o…
Using quantum parallelism on random walks as original seed, we introduce new quantum stochastic processes, the open quantum Brownian motions. They describe the behaviors of quantum walkers -- with internal degrees of freedom which serve as random gyroscopes -- interacting with series of probes. These processes may also be viewed as the scaling limit of open quantum random walks and we develop this approach along three different lines: quantum trajectory, quantum dynamical map, and quantum stochastic differential equation. We also present a study of the simplest case, with a two level system as…
Consider a time-varying collection of n points on the positive real axis, modeled as exponentials of n Brownian motions whose drift vector at every time point is determined by the relative ranks of the coordinate processes at that time. If at each time point we divide the points by their sum, under suitable assumptions the rescaled point process converges to a stationary distribution (depending on n and the vector of drifts) as time goes to infinity. This stationary distribution can be exactly computed using a recent result of Pal and Pitman. The model and the rescaled point process are both c…
Recently O'Connell introduced an interacting diffusive particle system in order to study a directed polymer model in 1+1 dimensions. The infinitesimal generator of the process is a harmonic transform of the quantum Toda-lattice Hamiltonian by the Whittaker function. As a physical interpretation of this construction, we show that the O'Connell process without drift is realized as a system of mutually killing Brownian motions conditioned that all particles survive forever. When the characteristic length of interaction killing other particles goes to zero, the process is reduced to the noncollidi…
We investigate the behaviour of a chain of interacting Brownian particles with one end fixed and the other moving away at slow speed, in the limit of small noise. The interaction between particles is through a pairwise potential with finite range. We consider both overdamped and underdamped dynamics.
