We obtain a trace Hardy inequality for the Euclidean space with a bounded cut $Σ\subset\mathbb R^d$, $d \ge 2$. In this novel geometric setting, the Hardy-type inequality non-typically holds also for $d = 2$. The respective Hardy weight is given in terms of the geodesic distance to the boundary of $Σ$. We provide its applications to the heat equation on $\mathbb R^d$ with an insulating cut at $Σ$ and to the Schrödinger operator with a $δ'$-interaction supported on $Σ$. We also obtain generalizations of this trace Hardy inequality for a class of unbounded cuts.
In this article we compute the best Sobolev constants for various Hardy-Sobolev inequalities with sharp Hardy term. This is carried out in three different environments: interior point singularity in Euclidean space, interior point singularity in hyperbolic space and boundary point singularity in Euclidean domains.
We investigate the large-distance asymptotics of optimal Hardy weights on $\mathbb Z^d$, $d\geq 3$, via the super solution construction. For the free discrete Laplacian, the Hardy weight asymptotic is the familiar $\frac{(d-2)^2}{4}|x|^{-2}$ as $|x|\to\infty$. We prove that the inverse-square behavior of the optimal Hardy weight is robust for general elliptic coefficients on $\mathbb Z^d$: (1) averages over large sectors have inverse-square scaling, (2), for ergodic coefficients, there is a pointwise inverse-square upper bound on moments, and (3), for i.i.d.\ coefficients, there is a matching …
In this paper we study Hardy-Sobolev inequalities on hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, all of them involving a mean curvature term and having universal constants independent of the hypersurface. We first consider the celebrated Sobolev inequality of Michael-Simon and Allard, in our codimension one framework. Using their ideas, but simplifying their presentations, we give a quick and easy-to-read proof of the inequality. Next, we establish two new Hardy inequalities on hypersurfaces. One of them originates from an application to the regularity theory of stable solutions to semilinear ellipti…
We establish magnetic improvements upon the classical Hardy inequality for two specific choices of singular magnetic fields. First, we consider the Aharonov-Bohm field in all dimensions and establish a sharp Hardy-type inequality that takes into account both the dimensional as well as the magnetic flux contributions. Second, in the three-dimensional Euclidean space, we derive a non-trivial magnetic Hardy inequality for a magnetic field that vanishes at infinity and diverges along a plane.
We prove fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities, capacitary versions of fractional Poincaré inequalities, and pointwise and localized fractional Hardy inequalities in a metric space equipped with a doubling measure. Our results generalize and extend earlier work where such inequalities have been considered in the Euclidean spaces or in the non-fractional setting in metric spaces. The results concerning pointwise and localized variants of fractional Hardy inequalities are new even in the Euclidean case.
The objective of this paper is to characterize harmonic Hardy spaces and a boundary behavior of harmonic functions on a smooth domain in real Euclidean space.
We prove geometric $L^p$ versions of Hardy's inequality for the sub-elliptic Laplacian on convex domains $Ω$ in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, where convex is meant in the Euclidean sense. When $p=2$ and $Ω$ is the half-space given by $\langle ξ, ν\rangle > d$ this generalizes an inequality previously obtained by Luan and Yang. For such $p$ and $Ω$ the inequality is sharp and takes the form \begin{equation} \int_Ω|\nabla_{\mathbb{H}^n}u|^2 \, dξ\geq \frac{1}{4}\int_Ω \sum_{i=1}^n\frac{\langle X_i(ξ), ν\rangle^2+\langle Y_i(ξ), ν\rangle^2}{\textrm{dist}(ξ, \partial Ω)^2}|u|^2\, dξ, \end{e…
We prove an improved version of the trace-Hardy inequality, so-called Kato's inequality, on the half-space in Finsler context. The resulting inequality extends the former one obtained by \cite{AFV} in Euclidean context. Also we discuss the validity of the same type of inequalities on open cones.
We study the Hardy identities and inequalities on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds using the notion of a Bessel pair. These Hardy identities offer significantly more information on the existence/nonexistence of the extremal functions of the Hardy inequalities. These Hardy inequalities are in the spirit of Brezis-Vázquez in the Euclidean spaces. As direct consequences, we establish several Hardy type inequalities that provide substantial improvements as well as simple understandings to many known Hardy inequalities and Hardy-Poincaré-Sobolev type inequalities on hyperbolic spaces in the literature.
In this paper we study various Hardy inequalities in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb H^n$, w.r.t. the Carnot-Carathéodory distance $δ$ from the origin. We firstly show that the optimal constant for the Hardy inequality is strictly smaller than $n^2 = (Q-2)^2/4$, where $Q$ is the homogenous dimension. Then, we prove that, independently of $n$, the Heisenberg group does not support a radial Hardy inequality, i.e., a Hardy inequality where the gradient term is replaced by its projection along $\nabla_{\mathbb H}δ$. This is in stark contrast with the Euclidean case, where the radial Hardy inequality…
This work focuses on an improved fractional Sobolev inequality with a remainder term involving the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality which has been proved recently. By extending a recent result on the standard Laplacian to the fractional case, we offer a new, simpler proof and provide new estimates on the best constant involved. Using endpoint differentiation, we also obtain an improved version of a Moser-Trudinger-Onofri type inequality on the sphere. As an immediate consequence, we derive an improved version of the Onofri inequality on the Euclidean space using the stereographic projection…
We consider the $L^p$ Hardy inequality involving the distance to the boundary for a domain in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space. We study the dependence on $p$ of the corresponding best constant and we prove monotonicity, continuity and differentiability results. The focus is on non-convex domains in which case such constant is in general not explicitly known.
We establish a bipolar Hardy inequality on complete, not necessarily reversible Finsler manifolds. We show that our result strongly depends on the geometry of the Finsler structure, namely on the reversibility constant $r_F$ and the uniformity constant $l_F$. Our result represents a Finslerian counterpart of the Euclidean multipolar Hardy inequality due to Cazacu and Zuazua (2013) and the Riemannian case considered by Faraci, Farkas and Kristály (2018).
Some of the most known integral inequalities are the Sobolev, Hardy and Rellich inequalities in Euclidean spaces. In the context of submanifolds, the Sobolev inequality was proved by Michael-Simon and Hoffman-Spruck. Since then, a sort of applications to the submanifold theory has been derived from those inequalities. Years later, Carron obtained a Hardy inequality for submanifolds in Hadamard spaces. In this paper, we prove the general Hardy and Rellich Inequalities for submanifolds in Hadamard spaces. Some applications are given and we also analyse the equality cases.
In the euclidean space, Sobolev and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities can be related by duality. In this paper, we investigate how to relate these inequalities using the flow of a fast diffusion equation in dimension $d\ge3$. The main consequence is an improvement of Sobolev's inequality when $d\ge5$, which involves the various terms of the dual Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. In dimension $d=2$, Onofri's inequality plays the role of Sobolev's inequality and can also be related to its dual inequality, the logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality, by a super-fast diffusion equat…
This paper is devoted to logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities in the two-dimensional Euclidean space, in presence of an external potential with logarithmic growth. The coupling with the potential introduces a new parameter, with two regimes. The attractive regime reflects the standard logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. The second regime corresponds to a reverse inequality, with the opposite sign in the convolution term, that allows us to bound the free energy of a drift-diffusion-Poisson system from below. Our method is based on an extension of an entropy method prop…

In this paper, we obtain a reverse version of the integral Hardy inequality on metric measure space with two negative exponents. Also, as for applications we show the reverse Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev and the Stein-Weiss inequalities with two negative exponents on homogeneous Lie groups and with arbitrary quasi-norm, the result which appears to be new already in the Euclidean space. This work further complements the ranges of $p$ and $q$ (namely, $q\leq p<0$) considered in \cite{RV} and \cite{RV21}, where one treated the cases $1<p\leq q<\infty$ and $p>q$, respectively.
In the Euclidean space of any dimension d, we consider the heat semigroup generated by the magnetic Schroedinger operator from which an inverse-square potential is subtracted in order to make the operator critical in the magnetic-free case. Assuming that the magnetic field is compactly supported, we show that the polynomial large-time behaviour of the heat semigroup is determined by the eigenvalue problem for a magnetic Schroedinger operator on the (d-1)-dimensional sphere whose vector potential reflects the behaviour of the magnetic field at the space infinity. From the spectral problem on th…
We consider the $L^p$ Hardy inequality involving the distance to the boundary of a domain in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space with nonempty compact boundary. We extend the validity of known existence and non-existence results, as well as the appropriate tight decay estimates for the corresponding minimizers, from the case of domains of class $C^2$ to the case of domains of class $C^{1,γ}$ with $γ\in (0,1]$. We consider both bounded and exterior domains. The upper and lower estimates for the minimizers in the case of exterior domains and the corresponding related non-existence result seem to…
In this paper we obtain logarithmic Hardy and Rellich inequalities on general Lie groups. In the case of graded groups, we also show their refinements using the homogeneous Sobolev norms. In fact, we derive a family of weighted logarithmic Hardy-Rellich inequalities, for which logarithmic Hardy and Rellich inequalities are special cases. As a consequence of these inequalities, we also derive a Gross type logarithmic Hardy inequality on general stratified groups. An interesting feature of such estimate is that we consider the measure which is Gaussian only on the first stratum of the group. Suc…
We study the sharp constant in the Hardy inequality for fractional Sobolev spaces defined on open subsets of the Euclidean space. We first list some properties of such a constant, as well as of the associated variational problem. We then restrict the discussion to open convex sets and compute such a sharp constant, by constructing suitable supersolutions by means of the distance function. Such a method of proof works only for $s\,p\ge 1$ or for $Ω$ being a half-space. We exhibit a simple example suggesting that this method can not work for $s\,p<1$ and $Ω$ different from a half-space. The case…
We consider weighted $L^p$-Hardy inequalities involving the distance to the boundary of a domain in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space with nonempty boundary. Using criticality theory, we give an alternative proof of the following result of F.~G.~Avkhadiev (2006) Theorem: Let $Ω\subsetneqq \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 2$, be an arbitrary domain, $1<p<\infty$ and $α+ p>n$. Let $\mathrm{d}_Ω(x) =\mathrm{dist}(x,\partial Ω)$ denote the distance of a point $x\in Ω$ to $\partial Ω$. Then the following Hardy-type inequality holds $$ \int_{Ω}\frac{|\nabla φ|^p}{\mathrm{d}_Ω^α}\,\mathrm{d}x \geq \left( \fra…
In this paper, we present the geometric Hardy inequality for the sub-Laplacian in the half-spaces on the stratified groups. As a consequence, we obtain the following geometric Hardy inequality in a half-space on the Heisenberg group with a sharp constant \begin{equation*} \int_{\mathbb{H}^+} |\nabla_{H}u|^p dξ\geq \left(\frac{p-1}{p}\right)^p \int_{\mathbb{H}^+} \frac{\mathcal{W}(ξ)^p}{dist(ξ,\partial \mathbb{H}^+)^p} |u|^p dξ, \,\, p>1, \end{equation*} which solves the conjecture in the paper \cite{Larson}. Also, we obtain a version of the Hardy-Sobolev inequality in a half-space on the Heise…
The Cauchy problem for the Hardy-Hénon parabolic equation is studied in the critical and subcritical regime in weighted Lebesgue spaces on the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$. Well-posedness for singular initial data and existence of non-radial forward self-similar solution of the problem are previously shown only for the Hardy and Fujita cases ($γ\le 0$) in earlier works. The weighted spaces enable us to treat the potential $|x|^γ$ as an increase or decrease of the weight, thereby we can prove well-posedness to the problem for all $γ$ with $-\min\{2,d\}<γ$ including the Hénon case ($γ>0$). As …
We announce a local $T(b)$ theorem, an inductive scheme, and $L^p$ extrapolation results for $L^2$ square function estimates related to the analysis of integral operators that act on Ahlfors-David regular sets of arbitrary codimension in ambient quasi-metric spaces. The inductive scheme is a natural application of the local $T(b)$ theorem and it implies the stability of $L^2$ square function estimates under the so-called big pieces functor. In particular, this analysis implies $L^p$ and Hardy space square function estimates for integral operators on uniformly rectifiable subsets of the Euclide…
We prove a range of critical Hardy inequalities and uncertainty type principles on one of most general subclasses of nilpotent Lie groups, namely the class of homogeneous groups. Moreover, we establish a new type of critical Hardy inequality and prove Hardy-Sobolev type inequalities. Most of the obtained estimates are new already for the case of $\mathbb R^{n}$. For example, for any $f\in C_{0}^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n}\backslash\{0\})$ our results imply the range of critical Hardy inequalities of the form $$\qquad \underset{R>0}{\sup}\left\|\frac{f-f_{R}}{|x|^{\frac{n}{p}}{\log}\frac{R}{|x|}}\r…
We consider the Hardy-Schrödinger operator $ -Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}-γ{V_2}$ on the Poincaré ball model of the Hyperbolic space ${\mathbb{B}^n}$ ($n \geq 3$). Here $V_2$ is a well chosen radially symmetric potential, which behaves like the Hardy potential around its singularity at $0$, i.e., $V_2(r)\sim \frac{1}{r^2}$. Just like in the Euclidean setting, the operator $ -Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}-γ{V_2}$ is positive definite whenever $γ<\frac{(n-2)^2}{4}$, in which case we exhibit explicit solutions for the equation $$-Δ_{\mathbb{B}^n}u-γ{V_2}u=V_{2^*(s)}u^{2^*(s)-1}\quad{\text{ in }}\mathbb{B}^n,$$ where $0\…
Let $Ω$ be a domain in $R^d$ and $d_Γ$ the Euclidean distance to the boundary $Γ$. We investigate whether the weighted Hardy inequality \[ \|d_Γ^{δ/2-1}φ\|_2\leq a_δ\,\|d_Γ^{δ/2}\,(\nablaφ)\|_2 \] is valid, with $δ\geq 0$ and $a_δ>0$, for all $φ\in C_c^1(Γ_r)$ and all small $r>0$ where $Γ_r=\{x\inΩ: d_Γ(x)<r\}$. First we prove that if $δ\in[0,2\rangle$ then the inequality is equivalent to the weighted version of Davies' weak Hardy inequality on $Ω$ with equality of the corresponding optimal constants. Secondly, we establish that if $Ω$ is a uniform domain with Ahlfors regular boundary then the…
Let $L$ be a non-negative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type with a dimension $n$. Suppose that the heat kernel of $L$ satisfies the Davies-Gaffney estimates of order $m\geq 2$. Let $H^1_L(X)$ be the Hardy space associated with $L.$ In this paper we show sharp endpoint estimate for the Schrödinger group $e^{itL}$ associated with $L$ such that \begin{eqnarray*} \left\| (I+L)^{-{n/2}}e^{itL} f\right\|_{ L^1(X)} + \left\| (I+L)^{-{n/2}}e^{itL} f\right\|_{ H^1_L(X)} \leq C(1+|t|)^{n/2}\|f\|_{H^1_L(X)}, \ \ \ t\in{\mathbb R} \end{eqnarray*} for some co…
We first prove a weighted inequality of Moser-Trudinger type depending on a parameter, in the two-dimensional Euclidean space. The inequality holds for radial functions if the parameter is larger than -1. Without symmetry assumption, it holds if and only if the parameter is in the interval (-1,0]. The inequality gives us some insight on the symmetry breaking phenomenon for the extremal functions of the Hardy-Sobolev inequality, as established by Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg, in two space dimensions. In fact, for suitable sets of parameters (asymptotically sharp) we prove symmetry or symmetry brea…
