In this paper, our discussion mainly focuses on equations with energy supercritical nonlinearities. We establish probabilistic global well-posedness (GWP) results for the cubic Schrödinger equation with any fractional power of the Laplacian in all dimensions. We consider both low and high regularities in the radial setting, in dimension $\geq 2$. In the high regularity result, an {\it Inviscid - Infinite dimensional (IID) limit} is employed while in the low regularity global well-posedness result, we make use of the Skorokhod representation theorem. The IID limit is presented in details as an independent approach that applies to a wide range of Hamiltonian PDEs. Moreover we discuss the adaptation to the periodic settings, in any dimension, for smooth regularities.
In this paper, we prove that the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the fractional Laplacian on the unit disk is globally well-posed for certain radial initial data below the energy space. The result is proved by extending the I-method in the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation setting.
We investigate the existence of solutions to the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation $(-Δ)^s u = f(u)$ with prescribed $L^2$-norm $\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} |u|^2 \, dx =m$ in the Sobolev space $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$. Under fairly general assumptions on the nonlinearity $f$, we prove the existence of a ground state solution and a multiplicity result in the radially symmetric case.
We consider the mass critical fractional (NLS). We show the existence of travelling waves for all mass below the ground state mass, and give a complete description of the associated profiles in the small mass limit. We therefore recover a situation similar to the one discovered in [Gerard P.; Lenzmann E.; Pocovnicu O.; Raphaël, P., A two soliton with transient turbulent regime for the one dimensional cubic half wave, submitted] for the critical case s = 1, but with a completely different asymptotic profile when the mass vanishes.
We study the multiplicity and concentration of complex valued solutions for a fractional magnetic Schrödinger equation involving a scalar continuous electric potential satisfying a local condition and a continuous nonlinearity with subcritical growth. The main results are obtained by applying a penalization technique, generalized Nehari manifold method and Ljusternik-Schnirelman theory. We also prove a Kato's inequality for the fractional magnetic Laplacian which we believe to be useful in the study of other fractional magnetic problems.
The paper is devoted to the study of a singularly perturbed fractional Schrödinger equations involving critical frequency and critical growth in the presence of a magnetic field. By using variational methods, we obtain the existence of mountain pass solutions $u_{\varepsilon}$ which tend to the trivial solution as $\varepsilon\rightarrow0$. Moreover, we get infinitely many solutions and sign-changing solutions for the problem in absence of magnetic effects under some extra assumptions.
In this paper, we study normalized ground states for the following critical fractional NLS equation with prescribed mass: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} (-Δ)^{s}u=λu +μ|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{2_{s}^{\ast}-2}u,&x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}, \int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}u^{2}dx=a^{2},\\ \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $(-Δ)^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian, $0<s<1$, $N>2s$, $2<q<2_{s}^{\ast}=2N/(N-2s)$ is a fractional critical Sobolev exponent, $a>0$, $μ\in \mathbb{R}$. By using Jeanjean's trick in \cite{Jeanjean}, and the standard method which can be found in \cite{Brezis} to overcome the lack of compactness, we firs…
In this paper we prove local well-posedness of a space-time fractional generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a power-type nonlinearity. The linear equation coincides with a model proposed by Naber, and displays a nonlocal behavior both in space and time which accounts for long-range interactions and a so-called memory effect. Because of a loss of derivatives produced by the latter and the lack of semigroup structure of the solution operator, we employ a strategy of proof based on exploiting some smoothing effect similar to that used by Kenig, Ponce and Vega for the KdV equa…
In this paper, we study ill-posedness of cubic fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equations. First, we consider the cubic nonlinear half-wave equation (NHW) on $\mathbb R$. In particular, we prove the following ill-posedness results: (i) failure of local uniform continuity of the solution map in $H^s(\mathbb R)$ for $s\in (0,\frac 12)$, and also for $s=0$ in the focusing case; (ii) failure of $C^3$-smoothness of the solution map in $L^2(\mathbb R)$; (iii) norm inflation and, in particular, failure of continuity of the solution map in $H^s(\mathbb R)$, $s<0$. By a similar argument, we also prove …
The aim of this note is to adapt the strategy in [4][See,B.Dodson, J.Murphy, a new proof of scattering below the ground state for the 3D radial focusing cubic NLS, arXiv:1611.04195 ] to prove the scattering of radial solutions below sharp threshold for certain focusing fractional NLS with cubic nonlinearity. The main ingredient is to apply the fractional virial identity proved in [11][See,T.Boulenger, D.Himmelsbach,E.Lenzmann, Blow up for fractional NLS,J.Func.Anal,271(2016),2569-2603] to exclude the concentration of mass near the origin.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $iu_t+ Δu+ λ|u|^αu=0$ in $\R^N $, in the $H^s$-subcritical and critical cases $0<α\le 4/(N-2s)$, where $0<s<N/2$. Local existence of solutions in $H^s$ is well known. However, even though the solution is constructed by a fixed-point technique, continuous dependence in $H^s$ does not follow from the contraction mapping argument. In this paper, assuming furthermore $s<1$, we show that the solution depends continuously on the initial value in the sense that the local flow is continuous $H^s \to H^s$. If, in addition, $α\ge 1$ t…
The uniqueness of the positive ground state solutions of fractional Shrodinger equations with a harmonic potential has not been covered by the breakthrough method developed in [1, 2]. It has remained an open question for years. [3] and [5] were quite recently able to prove the existence of the ground state solutions and to derive important properties but they failed to address the uniqueness. [3] left it as an open question, and [5] run numerical simulations that were in favor of the uniqueness. Very recently, the authors of this note developed a general and unified method to prove the uniquen…
In this paper we prove approximation properties of the solutions of the defoucsing NLS equation on the circle by nearly linear flows. In addition we show that spatially periodic solutions of the defocusing NLS equation evolving in fractional Sobolev spaces $H^s$ with $s\geq 1$ remain bounded for all times.
We show global wellposedness for the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) in $H^1(\mathbb{R}) + H^{3/2+}(\mathbb{T})$, and for the defocusing NLS with polynomial nonlinearities in $H^1(\mathbb{R}) + H^{5/2+}(\mathbb{T})$. This complements local results for the cubic NLS and global results for the quadratic NLS in this hybrid setting.
In this paper we study the cubic fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) on the torus and on the real line. Combining the normal form and the restricted norm methods we prove that the nonlinear part of the solution is smoother than the initial data. Our method applies to both focusing and defocusing nonlinearities. In the case of full dispersion (NLS) and on the torus, the gain is a full derivative, while on the real line we get a derivative smoothing with an $ε$ loss. Our result lowers the regularity requirement of a recent theorem of Kappeler et al. on the periodic defocusing cubic N…
In this short note we present a new proof of the global well-posedness and scattering result for the defocusing energy-critical NLS in four space dimensions obtained previously by Ryckman and Visan. The argument is inspired by the recent work of Dodson on the mass-critical NLS.
In this paper, the sharp threshold of scattering for the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the $L^2$-supercritical case is obtained, i.e., if $1+\frac{4s}{N}<p<1+\frac{4s}{N-2s}$, and $$ M[u_{0}]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}E[u_{0}]<M[Q]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}E[Q], \ M[u_{0}]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}\| u_{0}\|^2_{\dot H^s}<M[Q]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}\| Q\|^2_{\dot H^s}$$ then the solution $u(t)$ is globally well-posed and scatters. This condition is sharp in the sense that if $1+\frac{4s}{N}<p<1+\frac{4s}{N-2s}$ and $$ M[u_{0}]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}E[u_{0}]<M[Q]^{\frac{s-s_c}{s_c}}E[Q], \ M[u_{0}]^{\frac…
We revisit the proof of global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing energy-critical NLS in three space dimensions in light of recent developments. This result was obtained previously by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
We consider fractional NLS with focusing power-type nonlinearity $$i \partial_t u = (-Δ)^s u - |u|^{2 σ} u, \quad (t,x) \in \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^N,$$ where $1/2< s < 1$ and $0 < σ< \infty$ for $s \geq N/2$ and $0 < σ\leq 2s/(N-2s)$ for $s < N/2$. We prove a general criterion for blowup of radial solutions in $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $N \geq 2$ for $L^2$-supercritical and $L^2$-critical powers $σ\geq 2s/N$. In addition, we study the case of fractional NLS posed on a bounded star-shaped domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ in any dimension $N \geq 1$ and subject to exterior Dirichlet conditions. In…
We prove global well-posedness for the L^{2}-critical cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on R^{2} with data u_{0} \in H^{s}(R^{2}) for s > {1/3}.
We show that in the presence of a rough external potential, a 3d cubic defocusing NLS is globally well-posed in H^s for s>5/6. The proof is based on the approach of Colliander-Keel-Staffilani-Takaoka-Tao, called the I-method, but in order to deal with a rough potential, we modify harmonic analysis tools by spectral theory.
We prove that the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger - Korteweg - deVries (NLS-KdV) system on $\mathbb{T}$ is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)$ below the energy space $H^1\times H^1$. More precisely, we show that the non-resonant NLS-KdV is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in H^s(\mathbb{T})\times H^s(\mathbb{T})$ with $s>11/13$ and the resonant NLS-KdV is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in H^s(\mathbb{T})\times H^s(\mathbb{T})$ with $s>8/9$. The idea of the proof of this theorem is to apply the I-method of Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and …
We prove global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing, cubic NLS on $\mathbb{R}^3$ with initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^3)$ for $s>49/74$. The proof combines the ideas of resonance decomposition in \cite{CKSTT4} and linear-nonlinear decomposition in \cite{ben1}\cite{roy} together with the idea of large time iteration.
The energy-critical defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on 3-dimensional rectangular tori is considered. We prove that the global well-posedness result for the standard torus of Ionescu and Pausader extends to this class of manifolds, namely, for any initial data in $H^1$ the solution exists globally in time.
We consider the defocusing energy-critical NLS in the exterior of the unit ball in three dimensions. For the initial value problem with Dirichlet boundary condition we prove global well-posedness and scattering with large radial initial data in the Sobolev space $\dot H_0^1$. We also point out that the same strategy can be used to treat the energy-supercritical NLS in the exterior of balls with Dirichlet boundary condition and radial $\dot H_0^1$ initial data.
We prove global wellposedness in the energy space of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schroedinger and Gross-Pitaevskii equations on the exterior of a non-trapping domain in dimension 3. The main ingredient is a Strichartz estimate obtained combining a semi-classical Strichartz estimate with a smoothing effect on exterior domains.
In this article we study the asymptotic behavior of a quadratic NLS equation with small, time-dependent potential and small spatially localized initial data. We prove global existence and scattering of solutions. The two main ingredients of the proof are the space-time resonance method and the boundedness of wave operators for the linear Schrödinger equation with potential.
In this paper we prove global well-posedness in $H^1$ for the energy-critical defocusing initial-value problem \begin{equation*} (i\partial_t+Δ_x)u=u|u|^2,\qquad u(0)=ϕ, \end{equation*} in the semiperiodic setting $x\in\R\times\T^3$.
This article is concerned with the small data problem for the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) in one space dimension, and short range modifications of it. We provide a new, simpler approach in order to prove that global solutions exist for data which is small in $H^{0,1}$. In the same setting we also discuss the related problems of obtaining a modified scattering expansion for the solution, as well as asymptotic completeness.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the (derivative) nonlocal NLS in super-critical function spaces $E^s_σ$ for which the norms are defined by $$ \|f\|_{E^s_σ} = \|\langleξ\rangle^σ2^{s|ξ|}\hat{f}(ξ)\|_{L^2}, \ s<0, \ σ\in \mathbb{R}. $$ Any Sobolev space $H^{r}$ is a subspace of $E^s_σ$, i.e., $H^r \subset E^s_σ$ for any $ r,σ\in \mathbb{R}$ and $s<0$. Let $s<0$ and $σ>-1/2$ ($σ>0$) for the nonlocal NLS (for the nonlocal derivative NLS). We show the global existence and uniqueness of the solutions if the initial data belong to $E^s_σ$ and their Fourier transforms are supported in $(0, \infty)$…
We prove the existence of global solutions to the DNLS equation with initial data in a large subset of $H^2(\mathbb R)\cap H^{1,1}(\mathbb R)$ containing a neighborhood of all solitons. We use the inverse scattering transform method, which was recently developed by D. Pelinovsky and Y. Shimabukuro, and an auto-Bäcklund transform in order to include solitons.
We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation posed on product spaces $\mathbf R^n\times \mathcal M^k$, for $n\geq 1$ and $k\geq1$, with $\mathcal M^k$ any $k$-dimensional compact Riemaniann manifold. The main results concern global well-posedness and scattering for small data solutions in non-isotropic Sobolev fractional spaces. In the particular case of $k=2$, $H^1$-scattering is also obtained.
In this paper we transfer a small data global existence and scattering result by Wang and Hudzik to the more general case of modulation spaces $M_{p, q}^s(\mathbb{R}^d)$ where $q = 1$ and $s \geq 0$ or $q \in (1, \infty]$ and $s > \frac{d}{q'}$ and to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with higher order anisotropic dispersion.
We consider a general class of discrete nonlinear Schroedinger equations (DNLS) on the lattice $h \mathbb{Z}$ with mesh size $h>0$. In the continuum limit when $h \to 0$, we prove that the limiting dynamics are given by a nonlinear Schroedinger equation (NLS) on $\mathbb{R}$ with the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^α$ as dispersive symbol. In particular, we obtain that fractional powers $1/2 < α< 1$ arise from long-range lattice interactions when passing to the continuum limit, whereas NLS with the non-fractional Laplacian $-Δ$ describes the dispersion in the continuum limit for short-range lattice…
We use a method developed by Strauss to obtain global wellposedness results in the mild sense for the small data Cauchy problem in modulation spaces $M_{p,q}^s(\mathbb{R}^d)$, where $q=1$ and $s\geq0$ or $q\in(1,\infty]$ and $s>\frac{d}{q'}$ for a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with higher order anisotropic dispersion and algebraic nonlinearities.
We study the Cauchy problem for NLS with a class of $H^s$-super-critical data \begin{align} & {\rm i}u_t +Δu+ λ|u|^{2κ} u =0, \quad u(0)=u_0 \label{NLSabstract} \end{align} and show that \eqref{NLSabstract} is globally well-posed and scattering in $α$-modulation spaces $M^{s,α}_{2,1}$ ($α\in [0,1), \ s> dα/2-α/κ$, $κ\in \mathbb{N}$ and $κ\geq 2/d$) for the sufficiently small data. Moreover, NLS is ill-posed in $M^{s,α}_{2,1}$ if $s< dα/2-α/κ$. In particular, we obtain a class of initial data $u_0$ satisfying for any $M\gg 1$, \begin{align} \|u_0\|_2 \sim M^{1/κ-d/2 }, \ \ \|u_0\|_\infty \ =\in…
We establish global existence for the energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{S}^3$. This follows similar lines to the work on $\mathbb{T}^3$ but requires new extinction results for linear solutions and bounds on the first nonlinear iterate at a Euclidean profile that are adapted to the new geometry.
In this paper, we prove the global well-posedness for the focusing, cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the product space $\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{T}^3$ with initial data below the threshold that arises from the the ground state in the Euclidean setting. The defocusing analogue was discussed and proved in Ionescu-Pausader \cite{IPRT3} (Comm. Math. Phys. 312 (2012), no. 3, 781-831).
We address existence of global solutions to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation without the small-norm assumption. By using the inverse scattering transform method without eigenvalues and resonances, we construct a unique global solution in $H^2(\mathbb{R}) \cap H^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})$ which is also Lipschitz continuous with respect to the initial data. Compared to the existing literature on the spectral problem for the DNLS equation, the corresponding Riemann--Hilbert problem is defined in the complex plane with the jump on the real line.
We show that the 1d derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (\ref{equ}) is globally well-posed in $H^s(\mathbb{R})$ for $s\geq 1/2$. We use the linear-nonlinear decomposition method to take advantage of the local smoothing effect of the nonlinearity, which enables us to establish a refined version of the almost conservation law. Note that $H^{1/2}$ is the endpoint that we have uniform continuous for the solution map and hence our result is sharp.
We prove global existence for the one-dimensional cubic non-linear Schrödinger equation in modulation spaces $M_{p,p'}$ for $p$ sufficiently close to $2$. In contrast to known results, our result requires no smallness condition on initial data. The proof adapts a splitting method inspired by work of Vargas-Vega and Hyakuna-Tsutsumi to the modulation space setting and exploits polynomial growth of the free Schrödinger group on modulation spaces.
