We report on the anisotropy of the vortex motion surface impedance of a \fst thin film grown on a CaF$_2$ substrate. The dependence on the magnetic field intensity up to 1.2 T and direction, both parallel and perpendicular to the sample $c$-axis, was explored at fixed temperature at two distinct frequencies, $\sim16\;$GHz and $\sim27\;$GHz, by means of bitonal dielectric resonator. The free flux flow resistivity $ρ_{ff}$ was obtained by exploiting standard models for the high frequency dynamics, whereas the angle dependence was studied in the framework of the well known and widely used Blatter-Geshkenbein-Larkin (BGL) scaling theory for anistropic superconductors. Excellent agreement with the scaling law prescription by the fluxon flux flow resistivity was obtained. From the scaling analysis, a low-field mass anisotropy $\sim1.8$ was obtained, well within the value ranges reported in literature. The angular dependence of the pinning constant suggests that pinning is dominated by random, isotropic point pins, consistently with critical current density measurements.
We study theoretically the effects of heating on the magnetic flux moving in superconductors with a periodic array of pinning sites (PAPS). The voltage-current characteristic (VI-curve) of superconductors with a PAPS includes a region with negative differential resistivity (NDR) of S-type (i.e., S-shaped VI-curve), while the heating of the superconductor by moving flux lines produces NDR of N-type (i.e., with an N-shaped VI-curve). We analyze the instability of the uniform flux flow corresponding to different parts of the VI-curve with NDR. Especially, we focus on the appearance of the filamen…
Measurements of the high-frequency complex resistivity in superconductors are a tool often used to obtain the vortex parameters, such as the vortex viscosity, the pinning constant and the depinning frequency. In anisotropic superconductors, the extraction of these quantities from the measurements faces new difficulties due to the tensor nature of the electromagnetic problem. The problem is specifically intricate when the magnetic field is tilted with respect to the crystallographic axes. Partial solutions exist in the free-flux-flow (no pinning) and Campbell (pinning dominated) regimes. In thi…
The vortex liquid-to-glass transition has been studied in Ba0.72K0.28Fe2As2, Ba0.9Co0.1Fe2As2, and Ba(Fe0.45Ni0.05)2As2 single crystal with superconducting transition temperature, Tc = 31.7, 17.3, and 18 K, respectively, by magnetoresistance measurements. For temperatures below Tc, the resistivity curves were measured in magnetic fields within the range of 0 \leq B \leq 13 T, and the pinning potential was scaled according to a modified model for vortex liquid resistivity. Good scaling of the resistivity ρ(B, T) and the effective pinning energy U0(B,T) was obtained with the critical exponents s…
We discuss and propose a complete data treatment, in close contact to typical microwave experimental data, in order to derive vortex parameters, such as pinning constant and viscous drag coefficient (also referred to as ``vortex viscosity''), in a way as model-independent as possible. We show that many of the accepted models for the complex resistivity can be described by a single, very general analytical expression. Using typical measurements of real and imaginary resistivity as a function of the applied field, we show that, even for single-frequency measurements, it is always possible to obt…
The longitudinal resistivity (rho_{xx}) and transverse resistivity (rho_{xy}) of MgB2 thin films in the mixed state were studied in detail. We found that the temperature dependencies of rho_{xx} and ρ_{xy} at a fixed magnetic field (H) satisfy the scaling law of $ρ_{xy}=Aρ_{xx}^β$, where the exponent beta varies around 2.0 for different fields. In the low field region (below 1T), beta maintains a constant value of 2.0 due to the weak pinning strength of the vortices, mainly from the superfluid of the pi band. When H>1T, beta drops abruptly to its lowest value at about 2T because of the prolife…
By the application of a small oscillating magnetic field parallel to the main magnetic field and perpendicular to the transport current, we were able to generate a voltage dip in the I-V curves of Nb$_3$Sn similar to the peak-effect pattern observed in earlier resistivity measurements. The pattern was history dependent and exhibited a memory effect. In addition we observed in the I-V curves for a high shaking-field amplitude a step feature of unknown origin.
The interplay between vortex guiding and the Hall effect in superconducting Nb films with periodically arranged nanogrooves is studied via four-probe measurements in standard and Hall configurations and accompanying theoretical modeling. The nanogrooves are milled by focused ion beam and induce a symmetric pinning potential of the washboard type. The resistivity tensor of the films is determined in the limit of small current densities at temperatures close to the critical temperature for the fundamental matching configuration of the vortex lattice with respect to the pinning nanolandscape. The…
The ac prenetration depth, λ_ac(T,H,f), has been measured in superconducting UPt3 single crystals for H\parallel c and H\perp c in the range f=0.01-1MHz and T=0.1-0.4 K. The contributions from bulk pinning and surface pinning have been separated out to yield the flux-flow resistivity ρ_f(H). With H\perp c, rho_f displays magneto-resistance at low field which agrees with previous dc measurements and the characteristic scaling law of clean crystals with anisotropic gap. When H\parallel c, the low-field ρ_f is three times larger. We interpret this property as evidence for flux line with unconvent…
The vortex dynamics of uniaxial anisotropic superconductors with arbitrary angles between the magnetic field, the applied current and the anisotropy axis is theoretically studied, by focusing on the models for electrical transport experiments in the linear regime. The vortex parameters, such as the viscous drag, the vortex mobility and the pinning constant (in the weak point pinning regime), together with the vortex motion resistivity, are derived in tensor form by considering the very different free flux flow and pinned Campbell regimes. The results are extended to high frequency regimes wher…
The anisotropy of the critical current density Jc depends in general on both the properties of the flux lines (such as line tension, coherence length and penetration depth) and the properties of the defects (such as density, shape, orientation etc.). Whereas the Jc anisotropy in microstructurally clean films can be scaled to an effective magnetic field containing the Ginzburg-Landau anisotropy term, it is in general not possible (or only in a limited field range) for samples containing extended defects. Here, the Jc anisotropy of a Co-doped BaFe2As2 sample with 45° [001] tilt grain boundaries …
Polycrystalline La2-xPrxCa2xBa2Cu4+2xOz (LPCaBCO) compounds with x = 0.1 - 0.5 were synthesized by solid-state reaction method and studied by room temperature X-ray diffraction, dc resistivity, dc magnetization and iodometry. The superconducting transition temperatures in these tetragonal triple perovskite compounds increases from 32 to 62 K (Tconset values) with increasing dopant concentration. The mixing of rare earth La3+ and Pr3+/4+ ions at rare earth site (La3+) along with substitution of divalent Ca2+ results in the shrinkage of unit cell volume. The contraction of unit cell volume due t…
We investigated the superconducting transition and the pinning properties of undoped and Ag-doped FeSe0.94 at magnetic fields up to 14 T. It was established that due to Ag addition the hexagonal phase formation in melted FeSe0.94 samples is suppressed and the grain connectivity is strongly improved. The obtained superconducting zero-field transition becomes sharp (with a transition width below 1 K), Tc and the upper critical field were found to increase, whereas the normal state resistivity significantly reduces becoming comparable with those of FeSe single crystals. In addition, a considerabl…
We consider magnetic flux moving in superconductors with periodic pinning arrays. We show that sample heating by moving vortices produces negative differential resistivity (NDR) of both N and S type (i.e., N- and S-shaped) in the voltage-current characteristic (VI curve). The uniform flux flow state is unstable in the NDR region of the VI curve. Domain structures appear during the NDR part of the VI curve of an N type, while a filamentary instability is observed for the NDR of an S type. The simultaneous existence of the NDR of both types gives rise to the appearance of striking self-organized…
The flux pinning mechanism of NdO0.82F0.18FeAs superconductor made under high pressure, with a critical temperature, Tc, of 51 K, has been investigated in detail in this work. The field dependence of the magnetization and the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistivity were measured in fields up to 13 T. The field dependence of the critical current density, Jc(B), was analyzed within the collective pinning model. A crossover field, Bsb, from the single vortex to the small vortex bundle pinning regime was observed. The temperature dependence of Bsb(T) is in good agreement with the delta-l …
We report measurements of the microwave complex resistivity at 48 GHz in SmBaCuO thin films. Measurements are performed with a moderate magnetic field, $μ_{0}H<$ 0.8T, applied along the c-axis. We find that the complex resistivity presents clear sublinear field dependences, and that the imaginary part is remarkably sensitive to the moderate magnetic field. Interpretation considering an unusually strong pinning leads to very anomalous field dependences of the single-vortex viscosity and of the pinning constant. By contrast, allowing for a significant effect of the magnetic field on the depletio…
Measurements of the Hall effect and the resistivity in twinned YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films in magnetic fields B oriented parallel to the crystallographic c-axis and to the twin boundaries reveal a double sign reversal of the Hall coefficient for B below 1 T. In high transport current densities, or with B tilted off the twin boundaries by 5 degrees, the second sign reversal vanishes. The power-law scaling of the Hall conductivity to the longitudinal conductivity in the mixed state is strongly modified in the regime of the second sign reversal. Our observations are interpreted as strong, disorder…
Demanding microwave applications in a magnetic field require the material optimization not only in zero-field but, more important, in the in-field flux motion dominated regime. However, the effect of artificial pinning centers (APC) remains unclear at high frequency. Moreover, in coated conductors the evaluation of the high frequency material properties is difficult due to the complicated electromagnetic problem of a thin superconducting film on a buffered metal substrate. In this paper we present an experimental study at 48 GHz of 150-200 nm YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-x}$ coated conductors, with and …
In this Chapter we review our latest results on magnetic (AC susceptibility) and transport (resistivity) properties of Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 (PCCO) and Sm1.85Ce0.15CuO4 (SCCO) thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition technique. Three main topics of our studies will be covered. We start with a thorough discussion of the pairing symmetry mechanisms in optimally-doped SCCO thin films based on the extracted with high accuracy temperature profiles of penetration depth. In particular, we found that above and below a crossover temperature T*=0.22T_C, our films are best-fitted by a linear and quadratic …
The hot-electron vortex flow instability in superconducting films in magnetic field $B$ at substrate temperature $T_0 \ll T_c$ is theoretically considered in the presence of pinning. The magnetic field dependence of the instability critical parameters (electric field $E^\ast$, current density $j^\ast$, resistivity $ρ^\ast$, power density $P^\ast$ and vortex velocity $v^\ast$) is derived for a cosine and a saw-tooth washboard pinning potential and compared with the results obtained earlier by M.\,Kunchur [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{89} (2002) 137005] in the absence of pinning. It is shown that th…
The superconducting transition of the ?-pyrochlore oxide KOs2O6 with Tc = 9.60 K is studied by resistivity measurements under various magnetic fields using a high-quality single crystal. The reentrant behavior of superconductivity is observed near Tc in low magnetic fields below 2 T. The recovered resistance probably due to flux flow exhibits an anomalous angle dependence, indicating that flux pinning is enhanced in magnetic fields along certain crystallographic directions such as [110], [001] and [112]. It is suggested that there is an intrinsic pinning mechanism coming from the specific crys…
We measured the microwave surface impedance of FeSe$_{0.4}$Te$_{0.6}$ single crystals with- and without external magnetic fields. The superfluid density exhibited a quadratic temperature dependence, indicating a strong pair-breaking effect. The flux-flow resistivity behaved as $ρ_f(B\ll B_{\rm c2})/ρ_n=αB/B_{\rm c2}$. The observed $α$ value of $\approx0.66$ was considerably smaller than that of other Fe-based materials ($α\geq1$) and was attributed to a back-flow of superfluids remarkable in disordered superconductors. This is the first-time observation of the back-flow phenomenon caused by an…
We present a microwave study of the angular dependence of the flux-flow resistivity $ρ_{ff}$ and of the pinning constant $k_p$ in YBCO thin films containing BZO nanorods. We find that BZO nanorods are very efficient pinning centers, even in tilted fields. We find that $ρ_{ff}$ is a scaling function of a reduced field $H/f(θ)$. We extend a model for the anisotropic motion of vortices in uniaxially anisotropic superconductor, able to describe the experimental $f(θ)$ on the basis of only the intrinsic anisotropy of YBCO. The pinning constant $k_p$, by contrast, exhibits different field dependence…
Explicit current-dependent expressions for anisotropic longitudinal and transverse nonlinear magnetoresistivities are represented and analyzed on the basis of a Fokker-Planck approach for two-dimensional single-vortex dynamics in a washboard pinning potential in the presence of point-like disorder. Graphical analysis of the resistive responses is presented both in the current-angle coordinates and in the rotating current scheme. The model describes nonlinear anisotropy effects caused by the competition of point-like (isotropic) and anisotropic pinning. Nonlinear guiding effects are discussed a…
The resistivity vs. temperature relation in bulk ceramic HTSC under self-field conditions as well as in weak external magnetic fields is modelled by local Lorentz force induced fluxon motion with temperature dependent pinning. A pinning force density and two viscous drag coefficients in intergrain and intragrain regions, respectively, can be used as characteristic parameters describing the temperature, current, and external field dependences of the sample resistance.
Hybrid magnetic arrays embedded in superconducting films are ideal systems to study the competition between different physical (such as the coherence length) and structural length scales such as available in artificially produced structures. This interplay leads to oscillation in many magnetically dependent superconducting properties such as the critical currents, resistivity and magnetization. These effects are generally analyzed using two distinct models based on vortex pinning or wire network. In this work, we show that for magnetic dot arrays, as opposed to antidot (i.e holes) arrays, vort…
Measurements of anisotropic transport properties (dc and high-frequency regime) of driven vortex matter in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-x}$ with elongated strong-pinning sites (c-axis aligned, self-assembled BaZrO$_3$ nanorods) are used to demonstrate that the effective-mass angular scaling takes place only in intrinsic physical quantities (flux-flow resistivity), and not in pinning-related Labusch parameter and critical currents. Comparison of the dynamics at different time scales shows evidence for a transition of the vortex matter toward a Mott phase, driven by the presence of nanorods. The strong pi…
An important predicted, but so far uncharacterized, property of the new superconductor MgB2 is electronic anisotropy arising from its layered crystal structure. Here we report on three c-axis oriented thin films, showing that the upper critical field anisotropy ratio Hc2par/Hc2perp is 1.8 to 2.0, the ratio increasing with higher resistivity. Measurements of the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram show that flux pinning disappears at H* ~ 0.8Hc2perp(T) in untextured samples. Hc2par(0) is strongly enhanced by alloying to 39 T for the highest resistivity film, more than twice that seen in bu…
We have performed a comparative study of two thin films of magnesium diboride (MgB2) grown by different techniques. The critical current density at different temperatures and magnetic fields was evaluated from magnetisation curves, the structure of superconducting order parameter was obtained from point-contact spectroscopy, and the scattering rates were evaluated by fitting the temperature dependent normal-state resistivity to the two-band model. The films have similar critical temperatures close to 39 K, but the upper critical fields were different by a factor of 2 (5.2T and 2.5 T at 20 K). …
The mixed-state Hall effect was examined in a Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 epitaxial film with a high critical current density. The transverse resistivity ρxy and the longitudinal resistivity ρxx follow power law scaling ρxy = Aρxxβ. In the temperature-sweep with a fixed field (T sweep), all of the β values are independent of magnetic field up to 9 T, and are lower than 2.0 (around 1.8). In contrast, the β values in the magnetic-field sweep with a fixed temperature (H sweep) change from 1.8 to 2.0 as the temperature increases from 13 to 16 K even in the T/H region that overlaps with the T sweep measuremen…
Anisotropy is an intrinsic factor that dictates the magnetic properties of YBCO, thus with great impact for many applications. Artificial pinning centres are often introduced in an attempt to mitigate its effect, resulting in less anisotropic electrical and magnetic properties. However, the nanoengineering of the superconductor makes the quantification of the anisotropy itself uncertain: the intrinsic anisotropy due to the layered structure, quantified by the anisotropy factor $γ$, mixes up with the additional anisotropy due to pinning. As a consequence, there is no consensus on the experiment…
Transport measurements along the node and anti-node directions in the a-b plane of optimally doped and epitaxial thin films of YBCO are reported. Low bias magnetoresistance measurements near and below T_c show that the flux flow resistivity along the node and anti-node directions versus magnetic field are indistinguishable. This result suggests that within the experimental error of our measurements, no correspondence is found between the flux pinning properties in YBCO and the d-wave nature of the order parameter.
We report on the thickness dependence of the superconducting characteristics including critical current Ic, critical current density Jc, transition temperature Tc, irreversibility field Hirr, bulk pinning force plot Fp(H), and the normal state resistivity curve measured after successive ion milling of ~ 1 um thick high Ic YBa2Cu3O7-x films made by an ex situ metal-organic deposition process on Ni-W rolling-assisted biaxially textured substrates (RABiTS). Contrary to many recent data, mostly on in situ pulsed laser deposition (PLD) films, which show strong depression of Jc with increasing film …
We present a study of the anisotropic vortex parameters as obtained from measurements of the microwave complex resistivity in the vortex state with a tilted applied magnetic field in YBa2Cu3O7-x thin films with BaZrO3 nanorods. We present the angular dependence of the vortex viscosity $η$, the pinning constant k_p and the upper limit for the creep factor χ_M. We show that the directional effect of the nanorods is absent in η, which is dictated by the mass anisotropy γ. By contrast, pinning-mediated properties are strongly affected by the nanorods. It is significant that the pinning and creep a…
The properties of RbBi$_2$, a 4.15 K superconductor, were investigated using magnetic field, pressure and neutron diffraction. Under hydrostatic pressure, an almost 50 % reduction of T$_c$ is observed, linked to a low Debye temperature estimated at 165 K. The resistivity and magnetic susceptibility were measured on quenched and slow-cooled polycrystalline samples. The resistivity follows a low temperature power-law dependence in both types of samples, while the diamagnetic susceptibility, $χ$, is dependent on the sample cooling history. Slow-cooled samples have a $χ= -1$ while quenched samples…
We have investigated a series of superconducting bridges based on homogeneous amorphous WSi and MoSi films, with bridge widths w ranging from 2 um to 1000 um and film thicknesses d ~ 4-6 nm and 100 nm. Upon decreasing the bridge widths below the respective Pearl lengths, we observe in all cases distinct changes in the characteristics of the resistive transitions to superconductivity. For each of the films, the resistivity curves R(B,T) separate at a well-defined and field-dependent temperature T*(B) with decreasing the temperature, resulting in a dramatic suppression of the resistivity and a s…
We find universal scaling relations of the pinning effect on the Hall resistivity $ρ_{xy}$ and Hall angle $θ_{H}$. Considering the extended power law form of $ρ_{xx}$ and the microscopic analysis of $σ_{xy}$, we obtain unified $ρ_{xy}$ equations for superconductors with and without double sign reversal. These equations reasonably explain the striking universality in doping dependence found by Nagoaka et al., which contradicts the prediction of the time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation based on s-wave coupling theory [PRL {\bf{80}},3594 (1998)]. A full comparison of experiment with prediction…
We show that the longitudinal current-voltage characteristics of superconductors in mixed state have the general form of extended power law. Isotherms simulated from this nonlinear equation fit the experimental I-V data of Strachan et al. [ Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 067007 (2001)]. We determine the average pinning force in the flux creep and strong pinning regime and discuss both the puzzling scaling behavior $ρ_{xy}\proptoρ_{xx}^β$ and a recently found new scaling relationship of nonlinear Hall resistivity $ρ_{xy}(T)$.
We report complex impedance measurements in an untwinned YBaCuO crystal. Our broad frequency range covers both the quasi static response and the resistive response of the vortex lattice. It allow us to characterize the irreversibility line without the need of any frequency dependent pinning parameters. We confirm the validity of the two modes model of vortex dynamic, and extract both the surface critical current and the flux flow resistivity around the first order transition $T_{m}$. This latter is identified by the abrupt loss of pinning and by an unexpected step of $ρ_{ff}(T)$ at $T_{m}$.
We present the results of magnetization and magneto-transport measurements in the superconducting state of an as-cast Nb$_{75}$Zr$_{25}$ alloy. We also report the careful investigation of the microstructure of our sample at various length scales by using optical, scanning electron and transmission electron microscopies. The information of microstructure is used to understand the flux pinning properties in the superconducting state within the framework of collective pinning. The magneto-transport measurements show a non-Arrhenius behaviour of the temperature and field dependent resistivity in t…
Mo-substituted triple perovskite superconducting samples with the stoichiometric composition La(1.5)Nd(0.5)Ca(1)Ba(2)[Cu(1-x)Mo(x)](5)O(z), [LNCBCuMO] with x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.10, have been investigated using X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and oxygen content measurements. The observed reduction in Tc with increasing Mo content (x) in LNCBCuMO, can be attributed to the decrease in hole concentration. Magnetization measurements as a function of temperature and field (H), exhibit an M-H hysteresis loop, which indicates moderate flux …
We have investigated the electrical resistivity of the heavy fermion superconductor PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ in the mixed state. We found unusual double minima in the flux-flow resistivity as a function of magnetic field below the upper critical field for the first time, indicating double peaks in the pinning force density ($F_{\rm P}$). Estimated $F_{\rm P}$ at the peak exhibits apparent dependence on applied field direction; composed of two-fold and four-fold symmetries mimicking the reported angular dependence of thermal conductivity ($κ$). The result is discussed in correlation with the double …
Measurements of the nonlinear flux-flow resistivity $ρ$ and the critical vortex velocity $\rm v^*_ϕ$ at high voltage bias close to the instability regime predicted by Larkin and Ovchinnikov \cite{LO} are reported along the node and antinode directions of the d-wave order parameter in the \textit{a-b} plane of epitaxial $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}$ films. In this pinning-free regime, $ρ$ and $\rm v^*_ϕ$ are found to be anisotropic with values in the node direction larger on average by 10% than in the antinode direction. The anisotropy of $ρ$ is almost independent of temperature and field. We attribute th…
Using a two-coil mutual inductance method, we have measured the complex resistivity, rho_v(T,Be), of pinned vortices in c-axis pulsed laser deposited YBa2Cu3O7-d films with magnetic field Be applied perpendicular to the film. At low frequencies, (<100 kHz), rho_v is inductive and is inversely proportional to the Labusch parameter, the average vortex pinning force constant, kappa_exp. The observed weakening of kappa_exp with Be is consistent with a simple model based on linear pinning defects. Adding classical thermal fluctuations to the model in a simple way describes the observed linear T dep…
We report the synthesis and variation of superconductivity parameters such as transition temperature Tc, upper critical field Hc, critical current density Jc, irreversibility field Hirr and flux pinning parameter (Fp) for the MgB2-xCx system with nano-Carbon doping up to x=0.20. Carbon substitutes successfully on boron site and results in significant enhancement of Hirr and Jc(H). Resistivity measurements reveal a continuous decrease in Tc under zero applied field, while the same improves remarkably at higher fields with an increase in nano-C content for MgB2-xCx system. The irreversibility fi…
We present measurements of the vortex-state surface impedance, Z_s = R_s + i X_s, of a high quality, ortho-II-ordered single crystal of the cuprate high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.52 (T_c = 59K). Measurements have been made at four microwave frequencies (ω/2π= 2.64, 4.51, 9.12 and 13.97 GHz), for magnetic fields ranging from 0 to 7 T. From these data we obtain the field, frequency and temperature dependence of the vortex viscosity, pinning constant, depinning frequency and flux-flow resistivity. The vortex viscosity, η(ω,T), has a surprisingly strong frequency dependence and bears a …
We report the effect of high pressure on the superconducting, vortex pinning, and structural properties of a polycrystalline non-centrosymmetric superconductor Re6Hf. The superconducting transition temperature, Tc, reveals a modest decrease as pressure P increases with a slope -0.046 K/GPa (-0.065 K/GPa) estimated from resistivity measurements up to 8 GPa (magnetization measurement ~ 1.1 GPa). Structural analysis up to ~18 GPa reveals monotonic decreases of lattice constant without undergoing any structural transition and a high value of bulk modulus B0= 333.63 GPa, indicating the stability of…
We present wideband microwave measurements (1-22 GHz) taken on Superconductor/Ferromagnet heterostructures with the Corbino disk technique. We apply the technique to Nb/PdNi/Nb trilayers in the vortex state and we compare the results to data taken with the same technique on a Nb thin film. We show that it is possible to directly extract the genuine flux-flow resistivity from our frequency-dependent measurements without overcoming the (depinning) critical current. The characteristic frequency for vortex relaxation can also be estimated, without resorting to a specific model. We find that the F …
We have measured the microwave dissipation at 10 GHz in a Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 single crystal, between 75 and 50 K, as a function of the static magnetic field applied parallel to the c axis. We observe a clear-cut onset in the dissipation precisely at the melting field Hm(T), that we identify in the same sample by a step in the static magnetization. We show that this onset can be assigned to the c-axis resistivity becoming finite in our whole temperature range, whereas the in-plane resistivity displays a thermally activated behavior. This suggests that pinning is efficient even at 10 GHz. The normal …
An advanced mask-less nanofabrication technique, focused electron beam-induced deposition (FEBID), has been employed on epitaxial Nb thin films for their ferromagnetic decoration by an array of Co stripes. These substantially modify the non-patterned films' superconducting properties, providing a washboard-like pinning potential landscape for the vortex motion. At small magnetic fields B<0.1T, vortex lattice matching effects have been investigated by magneto-transport measurements. Peculiarities in the field dependencies of the films resistivity R(B) have been observed in particular for the vo…
The resistive properties of thin amorphous NbO_{x} films with weak pinning were investigated experimentally above and below the second critical field H_{c2}. As opposed to bulk type II superconductors with weak pinning where a sharp change of resistive properties at the transition into the Abrikosov state is observed at H_{c4}, some percent below H_{c2} (V.A.Marchenko and A.V.Nikulov, 1981), no qualitative change of resistive properties is observed down to a very low magnetic field, H_{c4} < 0.006 H_{c2}, in thin films with weak pinning. The smooth dependencies of the resistivity observed in t…
We probe the short-range pinning properties with the application of microwave currents at very high driving frequencies (47.7 GHz) on YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ films with and without sub-micrometer BaZrO$_3$ inclusions. We explore the temperature and field ranges 60 K$<T<T_c$ and 0$<μ_0H<$0.8 T, with the field applied along the c-axis. The magnetic field induces a much smaller increase of the microwave resistivity, $Δρ_1(H)+\mathrm{i}Δρ_2(H)$, in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$/BaZrO$_3$ with respect to pure YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$. $Δρ_1(H)$ is slightly superlinear in pure YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ (suggesti…
We report measurements of the magnetic-field induced microwave complex resistivity in REBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-δ}$ thin films, with RE = Y, Sm. Measurements are performed at 48 GHz by means of a resonant cavity in the end-wall-replacement configuration. The magnetic field dependence is investigated by applying a moderate (0.8 T) magnetic field along the c-axis. The measured vortex state complex resistivity in YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-δ}$ and SmBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-δ}$ is analyzed within the well-known models for vortex dynamics. It is shown that attributing the observed response to vortex motion…
Superconducting films in contact with non-superconducting regular arrays can exhibit commensurability effects between the vortex lattice and the unit cell of the pinning array. These matching effects yield a slowdown of the vortex flow and the corresponding dissipation decrease. The superconducting samples are Nb films grown on Si substrates. We have studied these matching effects with the array on top, embedded or threading the Nb superconducting films and using different materials (Si, Cu, Ni, Py dots and dots fabricated with Co/Pd multilayers). These hybrids allow studying the contribution …
Thin films of the high-temperature superconductor HgBa$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{6+δ}$ have been prepared on SrTiO$_3$ substrates by pulsed-laser deposition of precursor films and subsequent annealing in mercury-vapor atmosphere. The microstructural properties of such films can vary considerably and have been analyzed by x-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. Whereas the resistivity is significantly enhanced in samples with coarse-grained structure, the Hall effect shows little variation. This disparity is discussed based on models for transport properties in granular materials. We find that, des…
We demonstrate, both theoretically and experimentally, that thin dirty superconductor-normal metal bilayer with resistivity of normal metal $ρ_N$ much smaller than normal-state resistivity of superconductor $ρ_S$ has unique superconducting properties. First of all the normal layer provides the dominant contribution to the diamagnetic response of whole bilayer structure in wide temperature interval below the critical temperature due to proximity induced superconductivity. Secondly, the presence of the normal layer may increase the critical current $I_c$ in several times (the effect is not conne…
The vortex phase diagrams of NdFeAsO0.85F0.15 and NdFeAsO0.85 superconductors are determined from the analysis of resistivity and current-voltage (I-V) measurements in magnetic fields up to 9 T. A clear vortex glass to liquid transition is identified only in the oxygen deficient NdFeAsO0.85, in which I-V curves can be well scaled onto liquid and glass branches consistent with the vortex glass theory. With increasing magnetic field, the activation energy U0, deduced from the Arrhenius plots of resistivity based on the thermally activated flux-flow model (TAFF), decays more quickly for NdFeAsO0.…
A quantitative vortex-fluid model for flux-flow resistivity $ρ$ and Nernst signal $e_N$ in high-temperature superconductors (HTSC) is proposed. Two kinds of vortices, magnetic and thermal, are considered, and the damping viscosity $η$ is modeled by extending the Bardeen-Stephen model to include the contributions of flux pinning at low temperature and in weak magnetic fields, and vortex-vortex collisions in strong magnetic fields. Remarkably accurate descriptions for both Nernst signal of six samples and flux flow resistivity are achieved over a wide range of temperature $T$ and magnetic field …
