We find universal scaling relations of the pinning effect on the Hall resistivity $ρ_{xy}$ and Hall angle $θ_{H}$. Considering the extended power law form of $ρ_{xx}$ and the microscopic analysis of $σ_{xy}$, we obtain unified $ρ_{xy}$ equations for superconductors with and without double sign reversal. These equations reasonably explain the striking universality in doping dependence found by Nagoaka et al., which contradicts the prediction of the time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation based on s-wave coupling theory [PRL {\bf{80}},3594 (1998)]. A full comparison of experiment with prediction from theoretical models is proposed.
Charge doping of iron-pnictide superconductors leads to collective pinning of flux vortices, whereas isovalent doping does not. Moreover, flux pinning in the charge-doped compounds is consistently described by the mean-free path fluctuations introduced by the dopant atoms, allowing for the extraction of the elastic quasiparticle scattering rate. The absence of scattering by dopant atoms in isovalently doped BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ is consistent with the observation of a linear temperature dependence of the low-temperature penetration depth in this material.
We report on the systematic evolution of vortex pinning behavior in isovalent doped single crystals of BaFe2(As1-xPx)2. Proceeding from optimal doped to ovedoped samples, we find a clear transfor- mation of the magnetization hysteresis from a fishtail behavior to a distinct peak effect followed by a reversible magnetization and Bean Livingston surface barriers. Strong point pinning dominates the vortex behavior at low fields whereas weak collective pinning determines the behavior at higher fields. In addition to doping effects, we show that particle irradiation by energetic protons can tune vo…
Superconducting MgB2 strands with nanometer-scale SiC additions have been investigated systematically using transport and magnetic measurements. A comparative study of MgB2 strands with different nano-SiC addition levels has shown C-doping-enhanced critical current density Jc through enhancements in the upper critical field, Hc2, and decreased anisotropy. The critical current density and flux pinning force density obtained from magnetic measurements were found to greatly differ from the values obtained through transport measurements, particularly with regards to magnetic field dependence. The …
We study the general problem of a manifold of interacting elastic lines whose spatial correlations are strongly affected by the competition between random and ordered pinning. This is done through magneto-transport experiments with YBa2Cu3O7-d thin films that contain a periodic vortex pinning array created via masked ion irradiation, in addition to the native random pinning. The strong field-matching effects we observe suggest the prevalence of periodic pinning, and indicate that at the matching field each vortex line is bound to an artificial pinning site. However, the vortex-glass transition…
Doping effect of diamond nanoparticles on the superconducting properties of MgB2 bulk material has been studied. It is found that the superconducting transition temperature Tc of MgB2 is suppressed by the diamond-doping, however, the irreversibility field Hirr and the critical current density Jc are systematically enhanced. Microstructural analysis shows that the diamond-doped MgB2 superconductor consists of tightly-packed MgB2 nano-grains (~50-100 nm) with highly-dispersed and uniformly-distributed diamond nanoparticles (~10-20 nm) inside the grains. High density of dislocations and diamond n…
It has been shown that graphene doping is sufficient to lead to an improvement in the critical current density - field performance (Jc(B)), with little change in the transition temperature in MgB2. At 3.7 at% graphene doping of MgB2 an optimal enhancement in Jc(B) was reached by a factor of 30 at 5 K and 10 T, compared to the un-doped sample. The results suggested that effective carbon substitutions by grapheme, 2D nature of grapheme and the strain effect induced by difference thermal coefficient between single grapheme sheet and MgB2 superconductor may play an important role in flux pinning e…
The U/n method is a well-established means of improving flux pinning and critical current performance in cuprate superconductors. The method involves the doping of the superconductor with 235U followed by irradiation with thermal neutrons to promote fission. The resultant columnar damage tracks produced by the energetic fission products pin flux vortices and improve critical current performance in magnetic fields. No such improvement could be observed when the U/n method was applied to MgB2 superconductor. No fission tracks could be observed in TEM, even for samples that were irradiated at the…
We investigated the effect of SiC nano-particle doping on the crystal lattice structure, critical temperature T_c, critical current density J_c, and flux pinning in MgB_2 superconductor. A series of MgB_{2-x}(SiC)_{x/2} samples with x = 0 to 1.0 were fabricated using in-situ reaction process. The contraction of the lattice and depression of T_c with increasing SiC doping level remained rather small due to the counter-balanced effect of Si and C co-doping. The high level Si and C co-doping allowed the creation of intra-grain defects and highly dispersed nano-inclusions within the grains which c…
We have prepared Na-doped YBa2Cu3Oy (YBa1.9Na0.1Cu3Oy +40mol%Y211) (YBNCO) and Na-free YBa2Cu3Oy (YBCO) samples by the Melt-Textured Growth (MTG) method to study the effect of doped Na ion on flux pinning. The ac susceptibility curves (acs) as well as the hysteresis loops were measured for the samples. Then the effective pinning energy (U(T,Hdc,J)), irreversibility line (Hirr(T)) and critical current density (jc(Hdc)) were determined, where T, Hdc and J are temperature, dc magnetic field and current density, respectively. We found that, with Na doping, the Hirr(T) line shifted to lower tempera…
The three-dimensional frustrated anisotropic XY model with point disorder is studied with both Monte Carlo simulations and resistively-shunted-junction dynamics to model the dynamics of a type-II superconductor with quenched point pinning in a magnetic field and a weak applied current. Both the collective pinning and the depinning of the Bragg glass is examined. We find a critical current I_c that separates a creep region with unmeasurable low voltage from a region with a voltage V \sim I-I_c, and also identify the mechanism behind this behavior. It is further found to be possible to collapse …
Polycrystalline MgB2-xCx samples with x=0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 nano-particle carbon powder were prepared using an in-situ reaction method under well controlled conditions to limit the extent of C substitution. The phases, lattice parameters, microstructures, superconductivity and flux pinning were characterized by XRD, TEM, and magnetic measurements. It was found that both the a-axis lattice parameter and the Tc decreased monotonically with increasing doping level. For the sample doped with the highest nominal composition of x=0.4 the Tc dropped only 2.7K. The nano-C-doped samples showed an …
We study the vortex glass transition in disordered high temperature superconductors using Monte Carlo simulations. We use a random pinning model with strong point-correlated quenched disorder, a net applied magnetic field, longrange vortex interactions, and periodic boundary conditions. From a finite size scaling study of the helicity modulus, the RMS current, and the resistivity, we obtain critical exponents at the phase transition. The new exponents differ substantially from those of the gauge glass model, but are consistent with those of the pure three-dimensional XY model.
The competition between intrinsic disorder in superconducting YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-δ}$ (YBCO) thin films and an ultradense triangular lattice of cylindrical pinning centers spaced at 30 nm intervals results in an ordered Bose glass phase of vortices. The samples were created by scanning the focused beam of a helium-ion microscope over the surface of the YBCO thin film to form columns of point defects where superconductivity was locally suppressed. The voltage-current isotherms reveal critical behavior and scale in the vicinity of the second-order glass transition. The latter exhibits a disti…
We report the effects of cobalt doping on the magnetic properties of two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnet Fe3GeTe2. Single crystals of (Fe{1-x}Cox)3GeTe2 with x=0-0.78 were successfully synthesized and characterized with x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and magnetization measurements. Both the Curie-Weiss temperature and ferromagnetic (FM) ordered moment of Fe3GeTe2 are gradually suppressed upon Co doping. A kink in zero-field-cooling low field M(T) curve which is previously explained as an antiferromagnetic transition is observed for samples with x=0-0.58. Our deta…
We compare the low frequency (~1 kHz) anelastic spectra of La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 and La_{2-x}Ba_xCuO_4 at x = 0.03 and 0.06 in the temperature region where the freezing into the cluster spin-glass (CSG) phase occurs and is accompanied by an increase of the acoustic absorption. The dependence of the amplitude of the anelastic relaxation on doping is explained in terms of movement of the domain walls (DW) in the CSG phase between the Sr (Ba) pinning points. The LBCO sample at x = 0.06 transforms into the LTT structure below 40 K and the amplitude of the anelastic anomaly is 7 times smaller than expe…
Doping of MgB2 by nano-SiC and its potential for improvement of flux pinning was studied for MgB2-x(SiC)x/2 with x = 0, 0.2 and 0.3 and a 10wt% nano-SiC doped MgB2 samples. Co-substitution of B by Si and C counterbalanced the effects of single-element doping, decreasing Tc by only 1.5K, introducing pinning centres effective at high fields and temperatures and enhancing Jc and Hirr significantly. Compared to the non-doped sample, Jc for the 10wt% doped sample increased by a factor of 32 at 5K and 8T, 42 at 20K and 5T, and 14 at 30K and 2T. At 20K, which is considered to be a benchmark operating…
A general phenomenology for phase behaviour in the mixed phase of type-II superconductors with weak point pinning disorder is outlined. We propose that the ``Bragg glass'' phase generically transforms via two separate thermodynamic phase transitions into a disordered liquid on increasing the temperature. The first transition is into a glassy phase, topologically disordered at the largest length scales; current evidence suggests that it lacks the long-ranged phase correlations expected of a ``vortex glass''. This phase has a significant degree of short-ranged translational order, unlike the dis…
A series of high quality BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ pnictide superconductors were studied using magnetic relaxation and isothermal magnetic measurements in order to study the second magnetization peak (SMP) and critical current behaviour in Ni-doped 122 family. The temperature dependence of the magnetic relaxation rate suggests a pinning crossover, whereas, it's magnetic field dependence hints a vortex-lattice structural phase-transition. The activation energy ($U$) estimated using the magnetic relaxation data was analyzed in detail for slightly-underdoped, slightly-overdoped and an overdoped sa…
We study the thermodynamic and structural properties of the superconducting vortex system in high temperature layered superconductors, with magnetic field normal to the layers, in the presence of a small concentration of strong random point pinning defects via numerical minimization of a model free energy functional in terms of the time-averaged local density of pancake vortices. Working at constant magnetic induction and point pinning center concentration, we find that the equilibrium phase at low temperature ($T$) and small pinning strength ($s$) is a topologically ordered Bragg glass. As $T…
We study the elasticity, fluctuations and pinning of a putative spontaneous vortex solid in ferromagnetic superconductors. Using a rigorous thermodynamic argument, we show that in the idealized case of vanishing crystalline pinning anisotropy the long-wavelength tilt modulus of such a vortex solid vanishes identically, as guaranteed by the underlying rotational invariance. The vanishing of the tilt modulus means that, to lowest order, the associated tension elasticity is replaced by the softer, curvature elasticity. The effect of this is to make the spontaneous vortex solid qualitatively more …
The vortex liquid-to-glass transition has been studied in Ba0.72K0.28Fe2As2, Ba0.9Co0.1Fe2As2, and Ba(Fe0.45Ni0.05)2As2 single crystal with superconducting transition temperature, Tc = 31.7, 17.3, and 18 K, respectively, by magnetoresistance measurements. For temperatures below Tc, the resistivity curves were measured in magnetic fields within the range of 0 \leq B \leq 13 T, and the pinning potential was scaled according to a modified model for vortex liquid resistivity. Good scaling of the resistivity ρ(B, T) and the effective pinning energy U0(B,T) was obtained with the critical exponents s…
By doping MgB_2 superconductor with SiC nano-particles, we have successfully introduced pinning sites directly into the crystal lattice of MgB_2 grains (intra-grain pinning). It became possible due to the combination of counter-balanced Si and C co-substitution for B, leading to a large number of intra-granular dislocations and the dispersed nano-size impurities induced by the substitution. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density was significantly improved in a wide temperature range, whereas the transition temperature in the sample MgB_2(SiC)_x having x = 0.34, the highe…
The synthesis and characterization of PVA (Poly Vinyl Acetate) doped bulk MgB2 superconductor is reported here. PVA is used as a Carbon source. PVA doping effects made two distinguishable contributions: first enhancement of Jc field performance and second an increase in Hc2 value, both because of carbon incorporation into MgB2 crystal lattice. The susceptibility measurement reveals that Tc decreased from 37 to 36 K. Lattice parameter a decreased from 3.085 A to 3.081 A due to the partial substitution of Carbon at Boron site. PVA doped sample exhibited the Jc values greater than 10^5 A/cm2 at 5…
Frictional phenomena of two-dimensional elastic lattices are studied numerically based on a two-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova model with impurities. It is shown that impurities can assist the depinning. We also investigate anisotropic ordering and transverse pinning effects of sliding lattices, which are characteristic of the moving Bragg glass state and/or transverse glass state. Peculiar velocity dependence of the transverse pinning is observed in the presence of both periodic and random potentials and discussed in the relation with growing order and discommensurate structures.
We study the vortex matter phase diagram of a layered superconductor in the presence of columnar pinning defects, {\it tilted} with respect to the normal to the layers. We use numerical minimization of the free energy written as a functional of the time averaged vortex density of the Ramakrishnan-Yussouff form, supplemented by the appropriate pinning potential. We study the case where the pin density is smaller than the areal vortex density. At lower pin concentrations, we find, for temperatures of the order of the melting temperature of the unpinned lattice, a Bose glass type phase which at l…
We report the synthesis and characterization of graphite (C) doped MgB2-xCx (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) samples. The crystal structure and microstructural characterization have been investigated by x-ray diffractometer and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) analysis. The superconducting properties especially Jc and Hc2 have been measured by employing physical property measurement system. We found that the graphite doping affects the lattice parameters as well as the microstructure of MgB2 superconductor. In case of optimally doped (x=0.1) sample, the critical current density at 5K corresp…
The theory presented is based on a simple Hamiltonian for a vortex lattice in a weak impurity background which includes linear elasticity and plasticity, the latter in the form of integer valued fields accounting for defects. Within a quadratic approximation in the impurity potential, we find a first-order Bragg-glass, vortex-glass transition line showing a reentrant behavior for superconductors with a melting line near $ H_{c2} $. Going beyond the quadratic approximation by using the variational approach of Mézard and Parisi established for random manifolds, we obtain a phase diagram containi…
We present the results of a detailed investigation of the low-temperature properties of the vortex system in strongly anisotropic layered superconductors with a random array of columnar pinning centers. Our method involves numerical minimization of a free energy functional in terms of the time-averaged local vortex density. It yields the detailed vortex density distribution for all local free-energy minima, and therefore allows the computation of any desired correlation function of the time-averaged local vortex density. Results for the phase diagram in the temperature vs. pin concentration pl…
The evolution of an anelastic relaxation process occurring around 80 K in La{2-x}Sr{x}CuO{4} at a measuring frequency of ~1 kHz has been followed from x = 0.0075 to the overdoped region, x = 0.2, where it disappears. The dependence of the peak intensity on doping is consistent with a polaronic mechanism, identified with the disordered charge stripes overcoming pinning centers. A marked decrease of the peak amplitude occurs at x > 0.045, the same doping range where a change of the stripe order from parallel to diagonal with respect to the Cu-O bonds has been observed by neutron diffraction. Bot…
We study finite-size effects at the onset of the irreversible magnetic behaviour of micron-sized Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystals by using silicon micro-oscillators. We find an irreversibility line appearing well below the thermodynamic Bragg-glass melting line at a magnetic field which increases both with increasing the sample radius and with decreasing the temperature. We show that this size-dependent irreversibility line can be identified with the crossover between the Larkin and the random manifold regimes of the vortex lattice transverse roughness. Our method allows to determ…
We present 3D numerical simulation results of moving vortex lattices in presence of 1D correlated disorder at zero temperature. Our results with field tilting confirm the theoritical predictions of a moving Bose glass phase, characterized by transverse pinning and dynamical transverse Meissner effect, the moving flux lines being localized along the correlated disorder direction. Beyond a critical transverse field, vortex lines exhibit along all their length a "kink" structure resulting from an effective static "tin roof" pinning potential in the transverse direction.
The tilt modulus of a defective Abrikosov vortex lattice pinned by material line defects is computed using the boson analogy. It tends to infinity at long wavelength, which yields a Bose glass state that is robust to the addition of weak point-pinning centers, and which implies a restoring force per vortex line for rigid translations about mechanical equilibrium that is independent of magnetic field. It also indicates that the Bose glass state breaks into pieces along the direction of the correlated pinning centers if the latter have finite length. The critical current is predicted to crossove…
We study the oxygen doping dependence of the equilibrium first-order melting and second-order glass transitions of vortices in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$. Doping affects both anisotropy and disorder. Anisotropy scaling is shown to collapse the melting lines only where thermal fluctuations are dominant. Yet, in the region where disorder breaks that scaling, the glass lines are still collapsed. A quantitative fit to melting and replica symmetry breaking lines of a 2D Ginzburg-Landau model further reveals that disorder amplitude weakens with doping, but to a lesser degree than thermal fluctuat…
We show that the longitudinal current-voltage characteristics of superconductors in mixed state have the general form of extended power law. Isotherms simulated from this nonlinear equation fit the experimental I-V data of Strachan et al. [ Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 067007 (2001)]. We determine the average pinning force in the flux creep and strong pinning regime and discuss both the puzzling scaling behavior $ρ_{xy}\proptoρ_{xx}^β$ and a recently found new scaling relationship of nonlinear Hall resistivity $ρ_{xy}(T)$.
The effect of doping MgB2 with carbon nanotubes on transition temperature, lattice parameters, critical current density and flux pinning was studied for MgB2-xCx with x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3. The carbon substitution for B was found to enhance Jc in magnetic fields but depress Tc. The depression of Tc, which is caused by the carbon substitution for B, increases with increasing doping level, sintering temperature and duration. By controlling the extent of the substitution and addition of carbon nanotubes we can achieve the optimal improvement on critical current density and flux pinning in…
Using dynamical computer simulation we have investigated vortex matters in glass states. A genuine continuous depinning transition is observed at zero temperature, which also governs the low-temperature creep motion. With the notion of scaling, we evaluate in high accuracy critical exponents and scaling functions; we observe a non-Arrhenius creep motion for weak collective pinning where Bragg glass (BrG) is stabilized at equilibrium, while for strong pinning the well-known Arrhenius law is recovered. In both cases, a sharp crossover takes place between depinning and creep at low temperatures. …
We study vortex pinning in layered type-II superconductors in the presence of uncorrelated disorder for decoupled layers. Introducing the new concept of variable-range thermal smoothing, we describe the interplay between strong pinning and thermal fluctuations. We discuss the appearance and analyze the evolution in temperature of two distinct non-linear features in the current-voltage characteristics. We show how the combination of layering and electromagnetic interactions leads to a sharp jump in the critical current for the onset of glassy response as a function of temperature.
The peak effect has been investigated in clean Nb crystals with artificially corrugated surfaces by measuring the linear surface impedance in the 1kHz-1MHz frequency range. From a two-mode analysis of the complex spectra, we establish that vortex dynamics is governed by surface pinning and deduce the associated vortex slippage length. We demonstrate experimentally and theoretically that the peak effect is related to a transition from collective to individual surface pinning. A proper account of the peak-effect anomalies implies softening of the shear rigidity by disorder-induced lattice deform…
Magnetization and ac-susceptibility measurements are used to characterize the mixed phase of the high-temperature cuprate superconductor La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ over a large range of doping (0.075 $\leq x\leq$ 0.20). The first order vortex lattice phase transition line $H_{FOT}(T)$, the upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ and the second peak $H_{sp}(T)$ have been investigated up to high magnetic fields (8 Tesla applied perpendicular to the $CuO_2$ planes). Our results reveal a strong doping dependence of the magnetic phase diagram, which can mainly be explained by the increasing anisotropy wi…
We report the critical current density Jc in KxFe2-ySe2-zSz crystals. The Jc can be enhanced significantly with optimal S doping (z=0.99). For K0.70(7)Fe1.55(7)Se1.01(2)S0.99(2), the weak fishtail effect is found for H||c. The normalized vortex pinning forces follow the scaling law with a maximum position at 0.41 of the reduced magnetic field. These results demonstrate that the small size normal point defects dominate the vortex pinning mechanism.

The influence of randomly distributed point impurities and planar defects on order and transport in type-II superconductors and related systems is studied. It is shown that the Bragg glass phase is unstable with respect to planar efects. Even a single weak defect plane oriented parallel to the magnetic field as well as to one of the main axis of the Abrikosov flux line lattice is a relevant perturbation in the Bragg glass. A defect that is aligned with the magnetic field restores the flux density oscillations which decay algebraically with the distance from the defect. The theory exhibits stri…
We study the phase diagram of the superconducting vortex system in layered high-temperature superconductors in the presence of a magnetic field perpendicular to the layers and of random atomic scale point pinning centers. We consider the highly anisotropic limit where the pancake vortices on different layer are coupled only by their electromagnetic interaction. The free energy of the vortex system is then represented as a Ramakrishnan-Yussouff free energy functional of the time averaged vortex density. We numerically minimize this functional and examine the properties of the resulting phases. …
Since it was first observed about 40 years ago [1], the peak effect has been the subject of numerous research mainly impelled by the desire to determine its exact mechanisms. Despite these efforts, a consensus on this question has yet to be reached. Experimentally, the peak effect indicates a transition from a depinned vortex phase to a reentrant pinning phase at high magnetic field. To study the effects of intrinsic pinning on the peak effect, we consider Fe$_{x}$Ni$_{1-x}$Zr$_{2}$ superconducting metallic glasses in which the vortex pinning force varies depending on the Fe content and in whi…
We investigated the superconducting transition and the pinning properties of undoped and Ag-doped FeSe0.94 at magnetic fields up to 14 T. It was established that due to Ag addition the hexagonal phase formation in melted FeSe0.94 samples is suppressed and the grain connectivity is strongly improved. The obtained superconducting zero-field transition becomes sharp (with a transition width below 1 K), Tc and the upper critical field were found to increase, whereas the normal state resistivity significantly reduces becoming comparable with those of FeSe single crystals. In addition, a considerabl…
We have studied the vortex-matter phase diagram of low C doped MgB$_2$ superconductor. The significant finding is the appearance of a peak effect, which, as both our global magnetization and local ac susceptibility measurements revealed, is placed well below the $H_{c2}$-line. The absence of significant bulk pinning below the onset line $H_{on}(T)$ of the peak effect implies that the Bragg glass phase is present for $H < H_{on}(T)$. Interestingly, the unexpected absence of bulk pinning above the end point line $H_{ep}(T)$ of the peak effect implies the presence of a slightly pinned vortex phas…
We report effects of local magnetic moment, Gd3+, doping (x =< 0.3) on superconducting and magnetic properties of the closely related Lu(1-x)GdxNi2B2C and Y(1-x)GdxNi2B2C series. The superconducting transition temperature decreases and the heat capacity jump associated with it drops rapidly with Gd-doping; qualitative changes with doping are also observed in the temperature-dependent upper critical field behavior, and a region of coexistence of superconductivity and spin-glass state is delineated on the x - T phase diagram. The evolution of superconducting properties can be understood within A…
In the present study, La-doped MgB_2 superconductors with different doping level (Mg1-xLaxB2; x=0.00, 0.01, 0.03 & 0.05) have been synthesized by solid-state reaction route at ambient pressure. Effect of La doping have been investigated in relation to microstructural characteristics and superconducting properties, particularly intragrain critical current density (Jc). The microstructural characteristics of the as synthesized Mg(La)B2 compounds were studied employing transmission electron microscopic (TEM) technique. The TEM investigations reveal inclusion of LaB6 nanoparticles within the MgB2 …
The mixed phase of layered superconductors with no magnetic screening is studied through a partial duality analysis of the corresponding frustrated XY model in the presence of random columnar pins. A small fraction of pinned vortex lines is assumed. Thermally induced plastic creep of the vortex lattice within isolated layers results in an intermediate Bose glass phase that exhibits weak superconductivity across layers in the limit of weak Josephson coupling. The correlation volume of the vortex lattice is estimated in the strongly-coupled Bose-glass regime at lower temperature. In the absence …
The change in vortex ensemble in BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.67}$P$_{0.33}$)$_2$, an isovalently doped iron-based superconductor (IBS), is studied through global magnetization measurements and single vortex imaging before and after 6 MeV proton irradiation. The field dependence of the critical current density ($J_\mathrm{c}$) is analyzed through the strong pinning model, with which the pristine sample is consistent. After the irradiation, the $J_\mathrm{c}$ aberrates from the strong pinning field dependence of $B^{-5/8}$, and evolves to a weaker $B^{-1/3}$ dependence with an anomalous two-step behavior …
We examine the effects of disorder on striped phases in high-temperature superconductors and related materials. In the presence of quenched disorder, pinning by the atomic lattice - which might give rise to commensuration effects - is irrelevant for the stripe array on large length scales. As a consequence, the stripes have divergent displacement fluctuations and topological defects are present at all temperatures. Therefore the positional order of the stripe array is short ranged, with a finite correlation length even at zero temperature. Thus lock-in phenomena can exist only as crossovers bu…
We report critical current density ($J_c$) in tetragonal FeS single crystals, similar to iron based superconductors with much higher superconducting critical temperatures ($T_{c}$'s). The $J_c$ is enhanced 3 times by 6\% Se doping. We observe scaling of the normalized vortex pinning force as a function of reduced field at all temperatures. Vortex pinning in FeS and FeS$_{0.94}$Se$_{0.06}$ shows contribution of core-normal surface-like pinning. Reduced temperature dependence of $J_c$ indicates that dominant interaction of vortex cores and pinning centers is via scattering of charge carriers wit…
We present simulations of flux-gradient-driven superconducting vortices interacting with strong columnar pinning defects as an external field $H(t)$ is quasi-statically swept from zero through a matching field $B_ϕ$. We analyze several measurable quantities, including the local flux density $ B(x,y,H(t))$, magnetization $M(H(t))$, critical current $J_{c}(B(t))$, and the individual vortex flow paths. We find a significant change in the behavior of these quantities as the local flux density crosses $B_ϕ$, and quantify it for many microscopic pinning parameters. Further, we find that for a given …
The order of the vortex state in La_{1.9} Sr_{0.1} CuO_{4} is probed using muon spin rotation and small-angle neutron scattering. A transition from a Bragg glass to a vortex glass is observed, where the latter is composed of disordered vortex lines. In the vicinity of the transition the microscopic behavior reflects a delicate interplay of thermally-induced and pinning-induced disorder.
Measurements of thermal conductivity versus temperature over a broad range of doping in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+x}$ and HgBa$_2$Ca$_{n-1}$Cu$_n$O$_{2n+2+δ}$ ($n$=1,2,3) suggest that small domains of localized holes develop for hole concentrations near $p$=1/8. The data imply a mechanism for localization that is intrinsic to the CuO$_2$-planes and is enhanced via pinning associated with oxygen-vacancy clusters.
We study the properties of the Bose glass phase of localized flux lines in irradiated superconductors near the matching field $B_Φ$. Repulsive vortex interactions destroy the Mott insulator phase predicted to occur at $B=B_Φ$. For ratios of the penetration depth to average defect distance $λ/ d \leq 1$ remnants of the Mott insulator singularities remain visible in the magnetization, the bulk modulus, and the magnetization relaxation, as B is varied near $B_Φ$. For $λ\geq d$, the ensuing weakly pinned Bose glass is characterized by a soft Coulomb gap in the distribution of pinning energies.
PrOFe0.9Co0.1As is known to be a superconductor with a TC of ~14 K. In an attempt to induce charge transfer and also induce chemical pressure between the FeAs and PrO layers we have synthesized for the first time oxypnictides of the type PrOFe0.9Co0.1As1-xPx (P doping at As sites). All the compounds crystallize in the tetragonal ZrCuSiAs type structure (space group = P4/nmm). The lattice parameters (a and c) decrease as expected on substitution of smaller phosphorous at the arsenic site in PrOFe0.9Co0.1As and a decrease in TC was observed on substitution of P ions at a low rate of 0.13K/at. % …
We compared the AC magnetic susceptibility behaviour for the vortex glass phase and for the creep phenomena with an inhomogeneous pinning potential. The temperature dependence of the harmonics of the susceptibility have been numerically simulated with these two models, and we studied them as a function of the frequency, in terms of Cole-Cole plots. From our analysis we show that it is possible to distinguish between the two different phases, because of their clear differences in the Cole-Cole plots behaviour with the frequency.
