We study thermal transport in a two-dimensional system with coexisting $s$- or $d$-wave Superconducting (SC) and Spin Density Wave (SDW) orders. We analyse the nature of coexistence phase in a tight-binding square lattice with $\mathbf{Q}=(π,π)$ SDW ordering. The electronic thermal conductivity is computed within the framework of the Boltzmann kinetic theory, using Born approximation for the impurity scattering collision integral. We describe the influence of the Fermi surface (FS) topology, the competition between the SC and SDW order parameters, the presence or absence of zero energy excitations in the coexistence phase, on the low temperature behavior of thermal conductivity of the various paring states. We present qualitative analytical, and fully numerical results that show that the heat transport signatures of various SC states emerging from collinear SDW order are quite distinct, and depend on the symmetry properties of the SC order parameter under translation by the SDW nesting vector $\mathbf{Q}$. {A combination of $(π,π)$-SDW and the $d_{x^2-y^2}$ pairing state results in fully gapped excitations, whereas $(π,π)$-SDW co-existing with either $d_{xy}$ or $s$-wave pairing states may always have gapless excitations. There appear special stable Dirac nodal points that are not gapped by the SC order in the coexistence phase, resulting in finite residual heat conductivity.
The surprising discovery of high-$T_c$ superconductivity in iron-based compounds has prompted an intensive investigation on the role of interaction and magnetism in the these materials. Based on the general features of multi-bands and intermediate coupling strengths, a phenomenological theory of coexisting itinerant and localized electrons has been proposed to describe the low-energy physics in iron-based superconductors. It provides a unified framework to understand magnetic, superconducting, and normal phases, subject to further microscopic justification and experimental verification.
In light of recent experimental evidence of density wave order in the cuprates, we consider a phenomenological model of a d-wave superconductor with coexisting charge, spin or pair density wave order of various form and wave vector. We study the evolution of the nodal structure of the quasiparticle energy spectrum as a function of the amplitude of the coexisting order and perform diagrammatic linear response calculations of the low-temperature (universal-limit) thermal conductivity. The work described herein expands upon our past studies, which focused on a particular unit-cell-doubling charge…
We study the properties of a quasi-one dimensional superconductor which consists of an alternating array of two inequivalent chains. This model is a simple charicature of a locally striped high temperature superconductor, and is more generally a theoretically controllable system in which the superconducting state emerges from a non-Fermi liquid normal state. Even in this limit, ``d-wave like'' order parameter symmetry is natural, but the superconducting state can either have a complete gap in the quasi-particle spectrum, or gapless ``nodal'' quasiparticles. We also find circumstances in which …
Given the experimental evidence of charge order in the underdoped cuprate superconductors, we consider the effect of coexisting charge order on low-temperature thermal transport in a d-wave superconductor. Using a phenomenological Hamiltonian that describes a two-dimensional system in the presence of a Q=(π,0) charge density wave and d-wave superconducting order, and including the effects of weak impurity scattering, we compute the self-energy of the quasiparticles within the self-consistent Born approximation, and calculate the zero-temperature thermal conductivity using linear response forma…
Quasi-low-dimensional type II superconductors in parallel magnetic fields are studied when singlet pairing interactions and relatively weak triplet pairing interactions coexist. Singlet and triplet components of order parameter are mixed at high fields, and at the same time an inhomogeneous superconducting state called a Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state occurs. As a result, the triplet pairing interactions enhance the upper critical field of superconductivity remarkably even at temperatures far above the transition temperature of parallel spin pairing. It is found that the enhancement is…
We use coherent pump-probe spectroscopy to measure the photoinduced reflectivity \DeltaR, and complex dielectric function, δ\in, of the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_{4+δ} at a value of x near optimal doping, as a function of time, temperature, and laser fluence. We observe the onset of a negative \DeltaR at T=85 K, above the superconducting transition temperature, T_c, of 23 K, that exhibits a form of scaling consistent with critical fluctuations in the time domain. A positive ΔR onsets at T_c that we associate with superconducting order. We find that the two signals a…
We establish a condition for the perturbative stability of zero energy nodal points in the quasi-particle spectrum of superconductors in the presence of coexisting \textit{commensurate} orders. The nodes are found to be stable if the Hamiltonian is invariant under time reversal followed by a lattice translation. The principle is demonstrated with a few examples. Some experimental implications of various types of assumed order are discussed in the context of the cuprate superconductors.
A d-wave superconducting phase with coexisting intra-unit-cell orbital current order has the remarkable property that it supports finite size Fermi pockets of Bougoliubov quasiparticles. Experimentally detectable consequences of this include a residual $T$-linear term in the specific heat in the absence of disorder and residual features in the thermal and microwave conductivity in the low disorder limit.
Third-harmonic generation (THG) experiments on superconductors can be used to investigate collective excitations like the amplitude mode of the order parameter known as Higgs mode. These modes are visible due to resonances in the THG signal if the driving frequency matches the energy of the mode. In real materials multiple modes can exist giving rise to additional THG contributions, such that it is difficult to unambiguously interpret the results. In this paper, we additionally analyze the phase of the THG signal, which contains microscopic details beyond classical resonances as well as signat…
In light of the evidence that charge order coexists with d-wave superconductivity in the underdoped cuprate superconductors, we investigate the manner in which such charge order will influence the quasiparticle excitations of the system and, in particular, the low-temperature transport of heat by those quasiparticles. We consider a d-wave superconductor in which the superconductivity coexists with charge density wave order of wave vector (π/a,0). While the nodes of the quasiparticle energy spectrum survive the onset of charge order, there exists a critical value of the charge density wave orde…
We argue that the experimentally observed nonmonotonic gap in electron-doped cuprates at optimal doping is the lowest quasiparticle excitation energy in the coexisting antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) state. The idea is implemented by studying the coexistence of AF and SC orders with the t-t'-t''-J model. Although the pairing gap itself is assumed to be the simplest $d$ wave which is monotonic, we have found that the quasiparticle excitation gap in the coexisting state is nonmonotonic, with the maxima around the hot spots where the Fermi surface is missing due to the AF gap. Wit…
We examine the isotope effect of superconductivity in systems with coexisting interactions of phonon and nonphonon mechanisms in addition to the direct Coulomb interaction. The interaction mediated by the spin fluctuations is discussed as an example of the nonphonon interaction. Extended formulas for the transition temperature Tc and the isotope-effect coefficient alpha are derived for cases (a) omega_np < omega_D and (b) omega_np > omega_D, where omega_np is an effective cutoff frequency of the nonphonon interaction that corresponds to the Debye frequency omega_D in the phonon interaction. In…
Realizations of Majorana fermions in solid state materials have attracted great interests recently in connection to topological order and quantum information processing. We propose a novel way to create Majorana fermions in superconductors. We show that an incipient non-collinear magnetic order turns a spin-singlet superconductor with nodes into a topological superconductor with a stable Majorana bound state in the vortex core; at a topologically-stable magnetic point defect; and on the edge. We argue that such an exotic non-Abelian phase can be realized in extended t-J models on the triangula…
We present mean-field calculations for the in-plane optical conductivity, the superfluid density, and the electronic Raman susceptibility in quasi two-dimensional systems possessing a ground state with two competing order parameters: d-wave density wave (dDW) and d-wave superconductor (dSC). In the coexisting dDW+dSC phase we calculate the frequency dependence of these correlation functions in the presence of impurity scattering in the unitary limit, relevant to zinc-doped cuprate superconductors.
We consider the spin and charge Josephson current between two non-uniform Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov superconductors with helimagnetic order. We demonstrate that the presence of the helimagnetic phase generates a spin Josephson effect and leads to additional contributions to both single-particle and Josephson charge current. It is shown that for such systems the AC effect differs more radically from the DC effect than in the case of a BCS superconductor with helimagnetic order considered earlier in the literature [M. L. Kulić and I. M. Kulić, Phys. Rev. B {\bf 63}, 104503 (2001)] where a …
Relationship between the superconducting gap and the pseudogap has been the subject of controversies. In order to clarify this issue, we have studied the superconducting gap and pseudogap of the high-Tc superconductor La2-xSrxCuO4 (x=0.10, 0.14) by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). Through the analysis of the ARPES spectra above and below Tc, we have identified a superconducting coherence peak even in the anti-nodal region on top of the pseudogap of a larger energy scale. The superconducting peak energy nearly follows the pure d-wave form. The d-wave order parameter Δ_0 [defin…
We investigate the behavior of the Higgs (amplitude) mode when superconductivity emerges on a preexisting charge-density-wave state. We show that the weak overdamped square-root singularity of the amplitude fluctuations in a standard BCS superconductor is converted in a sharp, undamped power-law divergence in the coexisting state, reminiscent of the Higgs behavior in Lorentz-invariant theories. This effect reflects in a strong superconducting resonance in the Raman spectra, both for an electronic and a phononic mechanism leading to the Raman visibility of the Higgs. In the latter case, our res…
Stripe phases are observed experimentally in several copper-based high-Tc superconductors near 1/8 hole doping. However, the specific characteristics may vary depending on the degree of dopant disorder and the presence or absence of a low- temperature tetragonal phase. On the basis of a Hartree-Fock decoupling scheme for the t-J model we discuss the diverse behavior of stripe phases. In particular the effect of inhomogeneities is investigated in two distinctly different parameter regimes which are characterized by the strength of the interaction. We observe that small concen- trations of impur…
We consider a general D-wave superconducting gap function in the presence of coexisting antiferromagnetic (AFM) long-rang order. We find that the D-wave order parameter develops additional nodes without lowering the symmetry of the state due to the interplay of the superconducting and AFM correlations. This AFM correlated D-wave gap has a small gap structure inside the generic D-wave gap. As a result of this additional structure it shows a quite different response to impurities compared to a standard D-wave gap. We calculate the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ of this gap in the p…
The details of the superconducting to quantum metal transition (SQMT) at T=0 are an open problem that invokes much interest in the nature of this exotic and unexpected ground state1-3. However, the SQMT was not yet investigated in a crystalline 2D superconductor with coexisting and fluctuating quantum orders. Here, we report the observation of a SQMT in 2D ion-gel gated 1T-TiSe24, driven by magnetic field. A field-induced crossover between Bose quantum metal and vortex quantum creeping with increasing field is observed. We discuss the interplay between superconducting and CDW fluctuations (dis…
Two scenarios, i.e., the anisotropic s-wave pairing (the s-wave scenario) and the d-wave pairing coexisting with antiferromagnetism (the coexisting scenario) have been introduced to understand some of seemingly s-wave like behaviors in electron doped cuprates. We considered the electronic structure in the presence of a nonmagnetic impurity in the coexistence scenario. We found that even if the AF order opens a full gap in quasi-particle excitation spectra, the mid-gap resonant peaks in local density of states (LDoS) around an impurity can still be observed in the presence of a d-wave pairing g…
We present a study of the dynamical spin susceptibility in the pseudogap region of the high-T$_c$ cuprate superconductors. We analyze and compare the formation of the so-called resonance peak, in three different ordered states: the $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconducting (DSC) phase, the $d$-density wave (DDW) state, and a phase with coexisting DDW and DSC order. An analysis of the resonance's frequency and momentum dependence in all three states reveals significant differences between them. In particular, in the DDW state, we find that a nearly dispersionless resonance excitation exists only in a …
We show how the general features of the electronic structure of the Fe-based high-Tc superconductors are a natural setting for a selective localization of the conduction electrons to arise. Slave-spin and Dynamical mean-field calculations support this picture and allow for a comparison of the magnetic properties with experiments.
We study the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state of spin fluctuation mediated pairing, and focus on the effect of coexisting charge fluctuations. We find that (i) consecutive transitions from singlet pairing to FFLO and further to $S_z=1$ triplet pairing can generally take place upon increasing the magnetic field when strong charge fluctuations coexist with spin fluctuations, and (ii) the enhancement of the charge fluctuations lead to a significant increase of the parity mixing in the FFLO state, where the triplet/singlet component ratio in the gap function can be close to unity. We …
Motivated by the recent discovery of noncentrosymmetric superconductors, such as $CePt_{3}Si$, $CeRhSi_{3}$ and $CeIrSi_{3}$, we investigate theoretically the impurity resonance states with coexisting $s$- and p-wave pairing symmetries. Due to the nodal structure of the gap function, we find single nonmagnetic impurity-induced resonances appearing in the local density of state (LDOS). In particular, we analyze the evolution of the local density of states for coexisting isotropic s-wave and p-wave superconducting states and compare with that of anisotropic s-wave and p-wave symmetries of the su…
Topological superconductors have attracted tremendous excitement as they are predicted to host Majorana zero modes that can be utilized for topological quantum computing. Candidate topological superconductor Sn1-xInxTe thin films (0<x<0.3) grown by molecular beam epitaxy and strained in the (111) plane are shown to host three coexisting quantum effects: localization, antilocalization and superconducting fluctuations above the critical temperature Tc. An analysis of the normal state magnetoresistance reveals these effects. Weak localization is consistently observed in superconducting samples, i…
High resolution measurements of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility are reported for ferromagnetic re-entrant superconductor, ErRh$_{4}$B$_{4}$. Detailed investigation of the coexisting regime reveals unusual temperature-asymmetric and magnetically anisotropic behavior. The superconducting phase appears via a series of discontinuous steps upon warming from the ferromagnetic normal phase, whereas the ferromagnetic phase develops via a gradual transition. A model based on local field inhomogeneity is proposed to explain the observations.
Superconductivity in strongly correlated electron systems frequently emerges in proximity to another broken symmetry. In heavy-electron superconductors, the nearby ordered state most commonly is magnetism, and the so-called Ce115 heavy-electron compounds have been particularly instructive for revealing new relationships between magnetism and superconductivity. From measurements of the resistive and bulk transitions to superconductivity in these materials, we find that the resistive transition appears at a temperature considerably higher than the bulk transition when superconductivity and magne…
Motivated by numerical evidence of the valence bond groundstate of the two-dimensional Heisenberg pyrochlore lattice, we argue using a $t$-$J$ model that it evolves under doping into novel phases characterized by superconductivity coexisting with the underlying valence-bond solid order. A fermionic mean-field theory supplemented by exact diagonalization results provide strong arguments in favor of the stability of such supersolid phases. The resemblance with modulated superconducting patterns in high-$T_c$ cuprates as well as possible relevance to frustrated noncuprate superconductors such as …
The origin of the spin resonance observed in CeCoIn5 with Inelastic Neutron Scattering is subject to debate. It has been shown recently that in this heavy electron compound at low temperature an instability to a ground state with coexisting dx2 -y2 -wave superconductivity and Spin Density Wave (SDW) order in a magnetic field is a corollary of the consideration of a collective spin excitation mode in a quasi-2D dx2 -y2 -wave Pauli-limited superconductor. This provides a natural scenario for the occurence of the puzzling high-field-low-temperature phase highlighted in CeCoIn5 . We present perspe…
We report experimental evidences for the observation of the superconducting amplitude mode, so-called `Higgs' mode in the charge density wave superconductor 2H-NbSe2 using Raman scattering. By comparing 2H-NbSe2 and its iso-structural partner 2H-NbS2 which shows superconductivity but lacks the charge density wave order, we demonstrate that the superconducting mode in 2H-NbSe2 owes its spectral weight to the presence of the coexisting charge density wave order. In addition, temperature dependent measurements in 2H-NbSe2 show a full spectral weight transfer from the charge density wave mode to t…
We have studied electronic and magnetic properties of the K0.8Fe1.6Se2 superconductor by x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. Detailed temperature dependent measurements alongwith a direct comparison with the binary FeSe system have revealed coexisting electronic phases: a majority phase with high spin 3+Fe state and a minority phase with intermediate spin 2+Fe state. The effect of high temperature annealing suggests that the compressed phase with lower spin 2+Fe state is directly related with the high Tc superconductivity in the title system. The results clearly underline glassy nature…
Here we consider the universal heat conduction and the angular dependent thermal conductivity in the vortex state for a few nodal superconductors. We present the thermal conductivity as a function of impurity concentration and the angular dependent thermal conductivity in a few nodal superconductors. This provides further insight in the gap symmetry of superconductivity in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ and UPd$_2$Al$_3$.
We study striped morphologies induced by magnetic impurities in d-wave superconductors (DSCs) near optimal doping by self-consistently solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations based on the $t-t^{\prime }-U-V$ model. For the single impurity case, it is found that the stable ground state is a modulated checkerboard pattern. For the two-impurity case, the stripe-like structures in order parameters are induced due to the impurity-pinning effect. The modulations of DSC and charge orders share the same period of four lattice constants (4$a$), which is half the period of modulations in the coexisti…
The alloys of non-centrosymmetric superconductor, Re$_3$W, which were reported to have an $α$-Mn structure [P. Greenfield and P. A. Beck, J. Metals, N. Y. \textbf{8}, 265 (1959)] with $T_\mathrm{c}=9 $K were prepared by arc melting. The ac susceptibility and low-temperature specific heat were measured on these alloys. It is found that there are two superconducting phases coexisting in the samples with $T_\mathrm{c1}\sim9 $K and $T_\mathrm{c2}\sim7 $K, both of which have a non-centrosymmetric structure as reported previously. By analyzing the specific heat data measured in various magnetic fiel…
Normal state resistivity and Hall effect are shown to be successfully modeled by a two-band model of holes and electrons that is applied self-consistently to (i) DC transport data reported for eight bulk-crystal and six oriented-film specimens of YBa2Cu3O7-δ, and (ii) far-infrared Hall angle data reported for YBa2Cu3O7-δ and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ. The electron band exhibits extremely strong scattering; the extrapolated DC residual resistivity of the electronic component is shown to be consistent with the previously observed excess thermal conductivity and excess electrodynamic conductivity at low te…
We build a holographic superconductor model with a scalar triplet charged under an SU(2) gauge field in the bulk. In this model, the s-wave and p-wave condensates can be consistently realized. We find that there are totally four phases in this model, namely, the normal phase without any condensate, s-wave phase, p-wave phase and the s+p coexisting phase. By calculating Gibbs free energy, the s+p coexisting phase turns out to be thermodynamically favored once it can appear. The phase diagram with the dimension of the scalar operator and temperature is drawn. The temperature range for the s+p co…
The vanadium-based kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5 has attracted tremendous attention due to its unexcepted anomalous Hall effect (AHE), charge density waves (CDWs), nematicity, and a pseudogap pair density wave (PDW) coexisting with unconventional strong-coupling superconductivity (SC). The origins of CDWs, unconventional SC, and their correlation with different electronic states in this kagome system are of great significance, but so far, are still under debate. Chemical doping in the kagome layer provides one of the most direct ways to reveal the intrinsic physics, but remains unexplored. Her…
We present the results of a microscopic calculation of the longitudinal thermal conductivity of quasiparticles, $κ_{xx}$, in a 2D d-wave superconductor in the vortex state. Our approach takes into account both impurity scattering and a contribution to the thermal transport lifetime due to the scattering of quasiparticles off of vortices. We compare the results with the experimental measurements on high-T$_c$ cuprates and organic superconductors.
In recent years, there have been increasing experimental evidence suggesting the existence of an electronic nematic state in a number of unconventional $d$-wave superconductors. Interestingly, it is expected that the long-range nematic order can coexist with $d$-wave superconductivity. We analyze the in-plane upper critical field $H_{c2}$ after taking the influence of nematic state into account, and find that the four-fold oscillation of angle-dependent $H_{c2}$ in a pure $d$-wave superconducting state is turned into a novel two-fold oscillation pattern by a weak nematic order. Moreover, such …
The formation of normal-state domains in type-I superconducting indium films is investigated using the high resolution magneto-optical imaging technique. The observed patterns consist of coexisting circular and lamellar normal-phase domains surrounded by the superconducting phase. The distribution of domain surface areas is found to exhibit a threshold, above which only the lamellar shape is observed. We show that this threshold coincides with the predicted critical surface area for the elongation instability of the circular shape. The partition of the normal phase into circular and lamellar d…
We use large-scale Monte-Carlo simulations to study thermal fluctuations in chiral $p$-wave superconductors in an applied magnetic field in three dimensions. We consider the thermal stability of previously predicted unusual double-quanta flux-line lattice ground states in such superconductors. In previous works it was shown that, neglecting thermal fluctuations, a chiral $p$-wave superconductor forms an hexagonal lattice of doubly-quantized vortices, except extremely close to the vicinity of $H_{c2}$ where double-quanta vortices split apart. We find dissociation of double-quanta vortices drive…
A drastic enhancement of the thermal Hall angle in $d$-wave superconductors was observed experimentally in a cuprate superconductor and in CeCoIn$_5$ at low temperatures and very weak magnetic field [Phys. Rev. Lett. $\bf 86$, 890 (2001); Phys. Rev. B $\bf 72$, 214515 (2005)]. However, to the best of our knowledge, its microscopic calculation has not been performed yet. To study this microscopically, we derive the thermal Hall coefficient in extreme type-II superconductors with an isolated pinned vortex based on the augmented quasiclassical equations of superconductivity with the Lorentz force…
Topological superconductivity in multiband systems has received much attention due to a variety of possible exotic superconducting order parameters as well as non-trivial bulk and surface states. While the impact of coexisting magnetic order on superconductivity has been studied for many years, such as ferromagnetic superconductors, the implication of coexisting multipolar order has not been explored much despite the possibility of multipolar hidden order in a number of $f$-electron materials. In this work, we investigate topological properties of multipolar superconductors that may arise when…
In usual superconductors the carriers form Cooper pairs that have zero total momentum meaning that the superfluid density is homogeneous. We know for decades that it is a priori possible to observe at high fields the Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinikov (FFLO) state in which the superfluid density exhibits a field dependent modulation. The search for such inhomogeneous condensates in materials is the subject of tremendous excitement especially after the discovery of a promising high-field superconducting (HFSC) phase in CeCoIn$_5$. However, subsequent neutron and NMR experiments contradicted the FFL…
Motivated by Sr2RuO4, we consider a chiral superconductor where the gap is strongly suppressed along certain momentum directions. We evaluate the thermal Hall conductivity in the gapless regime, i.e., at temperature small compared with the impurity band width γ, taking the simplest model of isotropic impurity scattering. We find that, under favorable circumstances, this thermal Hall conductivity can be quite significant, and is smaller than the diagonal component (the universal thermal conductivity) only by a factor of 1/ ln(2 Δ_M/γ), where Δ_M is the maximum gap.
The effect of the strand longitudinal thermal conduction carried mainly by the stabilizing copper on the take-off (quench) behaviour of cable-in-conduit supercondutors is investigated theoretically and numerically. An equal area criterion type of condition is found for the thermal equilibrium of the conductor. It is shown that the thermal conduction effect can be quantified in terms of an effective, enhanced heat-exchange coefficient.
How to determine the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter is one of the important issues in novel superconductors, which include charge conjugated organic superconductors. We have proposed that the angular dependence of the thermal conductivity in a planar magnetic field provides a new window to look at the symmetry of the order parameter. After a brief summary of the quasiclassical approach we describe how the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, CeCoIn$_5$ and $κ$-(ET)$_2$Cu(NCS)$_2$ is determined. Also in some of experiments the phononic thermal condu…
We present scanning tunneling spectroscopic and high-field thermodynamic studies of hole- and electron-doped (p- and n-type) cuprate superconductors. Our experimental results are consistent with the notion that the ground state of cuprates is in proximity to a quantum critical point (QCP) that separates a pure superconducting (SC) phase from a phase comprised of coexisting SC and a competing order, and the competing order is likely a spin-density wave (SDW). The effect of applied magnetic field, tunneling current, and disorder on the revelation of competing orders and on the low-energy excitat…
We address here the superconductivity quenching under an external magnetic field of amplitudes up to 1 T and in the so-called "thermal smallness" condition, when the microbridge width becomes smaller than the thermal diffusion length of both the own superconductor and its refrigerant (the substrate, in the case of thin films), which breaks their thermal dimensional scaling. Our results further support that when the current perturbations have characteristic times in the millisecond range the quenching is due to thermal instabilities associated with regular (nonsingular) flux-flow, and they also…
To understand the interplay of d-wave superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in the cuprates, we consider a two-dimensional extended Hubbard model with nearest neighbor attractive interaction. Free energy of the homogeneous (coexisting superconducting and antiferromagnetic) state calculated a s a function of the band filling shows a region of of phase separation. The phase separation caused by the intersite attractive force leads to novel insights into salient features of the pseudogap phase diagram. In particular, the upper crossover curve can be identified with the phase separation boundar…
We consider the single particle spectral function for a two-dimensional clean superconductor in a regime of strong critical thermal phase fluctuations. In the limit where the maximum of the superconducting gap is much smaller than the Fermi energy we obtain an exact expression for the spectral function integrated over the momentum component perpendicular to the Fermi surface.
We have studied the effect of perpendicular magnetic fields and temperatures on the nonlinear electronic transport in amorphous Ta superconducting thin films. The films exhibit a magnetic field induced metallic behavior intervening the superconductor-insulator transition in the zero temperature limit. We show that the nonlinear transport in the superconducting and metallic phase is of non-thermal origin and accompanies an extraordinarily long voltage response time.
