There exists a Hamiltonian formulation of the factorisation problem which also needs the definition of a factorisation ensemble (a set to which factorable numbers, $N'=x'y'$, having the same trivial factorisation algorithmic complexity, belong). For the primes therein, a function $E$, that may take only discrete values, should be the analogous of the energy from a confined system of charges in a magnetic trap. This is the quantum factoring simulator hypothesis connecting quantum mechanics with number theory. In this work, we report numerical evidence of the existence of this kind of discrete spectrum from the statistical analysis of the values of $E$ in a sample of random OpenSSL n-bits moduli (which may be taken as a part of the factorisation ensemble). Here, we show that the unfolded distance probability of these $E$'s fits to a {\it Gaussian Unitary Ensemble}, consistently as required, if they actually correspond to the quantum energy levels spacing of a magnetically confined system that exhibits chaos. The confirmation of these predictions bears out the quantum simulator hypothesis and, thereby, it points to the existence of a liaison between quantum mechanics and number theory. Shor's polynomial time complexity of the quantum factorisation problem, from pure quantum simulation primitives, was obtained.
We explore quantum chaos diagnostics of variational circuit states at random parameters and study their correlation with the circuit expressibility and the optimization of control parameters. By measuring the operator spreading coefficient and the eigenvalue spectrum of the modular Hamiltonian of the reduced density matrix, we identify the universal structure of random matrix models in high-depth circuit states. We construct different layer unitaries corresponding to the GOE and GUE distributions and quantify their VQA performance. Our study also highlights a potential tension between the OTOC…
We present a non-perturbative analysis of the power-spectrum of energy level fluctuations in fully chaotic quantum structures. Focussing on systems with broken time-reversal symmetry, we employ a finite-$N$ random matrix theory to derive an exact multidimensional integral representation of the power-spectrum. The $N\rightarrow \infty$ limit of the exact solution furnishes the main result of this study -- a universal, parameter-free prediction for the power-spectrum expressed in terms of a fifth Painlevé transcendent. Extensive numerics lends further support to our theory which, as discussed at…

Quantum chaotic and integrable systems are known to exhibit a characteristic $1/f$ and $1/f^{2}$ noise, respectively, in the power spectrum associated to their spectral fluctuations. A recent work [R. Riser, V. A. Osipov, and E. Kanzieper, \textit{Power Spectrum of Long Eigenlevel Sequences in Quantum Chaotic Systems}, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{118}, 204101 (2017)] calls into question the approximations used to derive these results from random matrix theory. In this paper we show that such approximations do remain valid under almost any circumstances. For the integrable limit, we devise a proto…
We study the spectral fluctuations of the $^{208}$Pb nucleus using the complete experimental spectrum of 151 states up to excitation energies of $6.20$ MeV recently identified at the Maier-Leibnitz-Laboratorium at Garching, Germany. For natural parity states the results are very close to the predictions of Random Matrix Theory (RMT) for the nearest-neighbor spacing distribution. A quantitative estimate of the agreement is given by the Brody parameter $ω$, which takes the value $ω=0$ for regular systems and $ω\simeq 1$ for chaotic systems. We obtain $ω=0.85 \pm 0.02$ which is, to our knowledge,…
We establish the emergence of chaotic motion in optomechanical systems. Chaos appears at negative detuning for experimentally accessible values of the pump power and other system parameters. We describe the sequence of period doubling bifurcations that leads to chaos, and state the experimentally observable signatures in the optical spectrum. In addition to the semi-classical dynamics we analyze the possibility of chaotic motion in the quantum regime. We find that quantum mechanics protects the optomechanical system against irregular dynamics, such that simple periodic orbits reappear and repl…
We derive universal entanglement entropy and Schmidt eigenvalue behaviors for the eigenstates of two quantum chaotic systems coupled with a weak interaction. The progression from a lack of entanglement in the noninteracting limit to the entanglement expected of fully randomized states in the opposite limit is governed by the single scaling transition parameter, $Λ$. The behaviors apply equally well to few- and many-body systems, e.g.\ interacting particles in quantum dots, spin chains, coupled quantum maps, and Floquet systems as long as their subsystems are quantum chaotic, and not localized …
We introduce a simple quantum generalization of the spectrum of classical Lyapunov exponents. We apply it to the SYK and XXZ models, and study the Lyapunov growth and entropy production. Our numerical results suggest that a black hole is not just the fastest scrambler, but also the fastest entropy generator. We also study the statistical features of the quantum Lyapunov spectrum and find universal random matrix behavior, which resembles the recently-found universality in classical chaos. The random matrix behavior is lost when the system is deformed away from chaos, towards integrability or a …
The arithmetic problem of factoring an integer $N$ can be translated into the physics of a quantum device, a result that supports Pólya's and Hilbert's conjecture to prove Riemann's hypothesis. The energies of this system, being univocally related to the factors of $N$, are the eigenvalues of a bounded Hamiltonian. Here we solve the quantum conditions and show that the histogram of the discrete energies, provided by the spectrum of the system, should be interpreted in number theory as the relative probability for a prime to be a factor candidate of $N$. This is equivalent to a quantum sieve th…
This article tackles a fundamental long-standing problem in quantum chaos, namely, whether quantum chaotic systems can exhibit sensitivity to initial conditions, in a form that directly generalizes the notion of classical chaos in phase space. We develop a linear response theory for complexity, and demonstrate that the complexity can exhibit exponential sensitivity in response to perturbations of initial conditions for chaotic systems. Two immediate significant results follows: i) the complexity linear response matrix gives rise to a spectrum that fully recovers the Lyapunov exponents in the c…
We study the accuracy and precision for estimating the fraction of observed levels $φ$ in quantum chaotic spectra through long-range correlations. We focus on the main statistics where theoretical formulas for the fraction of missing levels have been derived, the $Δ_3$ of Dyson and Mehta and the power spectrum of the $δ_n$ statistic. We use Monte Carlo simulations of the spectra from the diagonalization of Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble matrices with a definite number of levels randomly taken out to fit the formulas and calculate the distribution of the estimators for different sizes of the spec…
