We study $U(1)$ gauged gravitating compact $Q$-ball, $Q$-shell solutions in a nonlinear sigma model with the target space $\mathbb{C}P^N$. The models with odd integer $N$ and a special potential can be parameterized by $N$-th complex scalar fields and they support compact solutions. Implementing the $U(1)$ gauge field in the model, the behavior of the solutions become complicated than the global model. Especially, they exhibit branch, i.e., two independent solutions with same shooting parameter. The energy of the solutions in the first branch behaves as $E\sim Q^{5/6}$ for small $Q$, where $Q$ stands for the $U(1)$ Noether charge. For the large $Q$, it gradually deviates from the scaling $E\sim Q^{5/6}$ and, for the $Q$-shells it is $E\sim Q^{7/6}$, which forms the second branch. A coupling with gravity allows for harboring of the Schwarzschild black holes for the $Q$-shell solutions, forming the charged boson shells. The space-time then consist of a charged black hole in the interior of the shell, surrounded by a $Q$-shell, and the outside becomes a Reissner-Nordström space-time. These solutions inherit the scaling behavior of the flat space-time.
We investigate quantum dynamics of self-gravitating spherical dust shell. The wave functions of discrete spectrum are not localized inside the Schwarzschild radius. We argue that such shells can transform into white holes (in another space). It is plausible that shells with bare masses larger than the Planck mass loose their mass emitting lighter shells.
Cosmic strings are considered in two types of gauged sigma models, which generalize the gravitating Abelian Higgs model. The two models differ by whether the U(1) kinetic term is of the Maxwell or Chern-Simons form. We obtain the self-duality conditions for a general two-dimensional target space defined in terms of field dependent "dielectric functions". In particular, we analyze analytically and numerically the equations for the case of O(3) models (two-sphere as target space), and find cosmic string solutions of several kinds as well as gravitating vortices. We classify the solutions by thei…
We study compact gravitating $Q$-ball, $Q$-shell solutions in a sigma model with the target space $\mathbb{C}P^N$. Models with odd integer $N$ and suitable potential can be parameterized by $N$-th complex scalar fields and they support compact solutions. A coupling with gravity allows for harboring of the Schwarzschild black holes for the $Q$-shell solutions. The energy of the solutions behaves as $E\sim |Q|^{5/6}$, where $Q$ stands for the $U(1)$ Noether charge, for both the gravitating and the black hole solutions.Notable difference from the solutions of the flat space is that upper bound of…
We review the construction of 4D, N =2 globally supersymmetric off-shell nonlinear sigma models whose target spaces are the cotangent bundles of Kähler manifolds.
In this note, we investigate relations between tree-level off-shell currents in nonlinear sigma model. Under Cayley parametrization, all odd-point currents vanish. We propose and prove a generalized $U(1)$ identity for even-point currents. The off-shell $U(1)$ identity given in [1] is a special case of the generalized identity studied in this note. The on-shell limit of this identity is equivalent with the on-shell KK relation. Thus this relation provides the full off-shell correspondence of tree-level KK relation in nonlinear sigma model.
A thin shell of light-like dust with its own gravitational field is studied in the special case of spherical symmetry. The action functional for this system due to Louko, Whiting, and Friedman is reduced to Kuchař form: the new variables are embeddings, their conjugate momenta, and Dirac observables. The concepts of background manifold and covariant gauge fixing, that underlie these variables, are reformulated in a way that implies the uniqueness and gauge invariance of the background manifold. The reduced dynamics describes motion on this background manifold.
In this paper, we construct the first analytic examples of (3+1)-dimensional self-gravitating regular cosmic tube solutions which are superconducting, free of curvature singularities and with non-trivial topological charge in the Einstein-SU(2) non-linear sigma-model. These gravitating topological solitons at a large distance from the axis look like a (boosted) cosmic string with an angular defect given by the parameters of the theory, and near the axis, the parameters of the solutions can be chosen so that the metric is singularity free and without angular defect. The curvature is concentrate…
We investigate relations among tree-level off-shell currents in nonlinear sigma model. Under Cayley parametrization, we propose and prove a general revised BCJ relation for even-point currents. Unlike the on-shell BCJ relation, the off-shell one behaves quite differently from Yang-Mills theory although the algebraic structure is the same. After performing the permutation summation in the revised BCJ relation, the sum is non-vanishing, instead, it equals to the sum of sub-current products with the BCJ coefficients under a specific ordering, which is presented by an explicit formula. Taking on-s…
We consider the $\mathrm{O}(3)$ non-linear sigma-model, composed of three real scalar fields with a standard kinetic term and with a symmetry breaking potential in four spacetime dimensions. We show that this simple, geometrically motivated model, admits both self-gravitating, asymptotically flat, non-topological solitons and hairy black holes, when minimally coupled to Einstein's gravity, $without$ the need to introduce higher order kinetic terms in the scalar fields action. Both spherically symmetric and spinning, axially symmetric solutions are studied. The solutions are obtained under a an…
We develop superspace techniques to construct general off-shell N=1,2,3,4 superconformal sigma-models in three space-time dimensions. The most general N=3 and N=4 superconformal sigma-models are constructed in terms of N=2 chiral superfields. Several superspace proofs of the folklore statement that N=3 supersymmetry implies N=4 are presented both in the on-shell and off-shell settings. We also elaborate on (super)twistor realisations for (super)manifolds on which the three-dimensional N-extended superconformal groups act transitively and which include Minkowski space as a subspace.
We describe the conditions for extra supersymmetry in N=(2,2) supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models written in terms of semichiral superfields. We find that some of these models have additional off-shell supersymmetry. The (4,4) supersymmetry introduces geometrical structures on the target-space which are conveniently described in terms of Yano f-structures and Magri-Morosi concomitants. On-shell, we relate the new structures to the known bi-hypercomplex structures.
The dynamics of a thin spherically symmetric shell of zero-rest-mass matter in its own gravitational field is studied. A form of action principle is used that enables the reformulation of the dynamics as motion on a fixed background manifold. A self-adjoint extension of the Hamiltonian is obtained via the group quantization method. Operators of position and of direction of motion are constructed. The shell is shown to avoid the singularity, to bounce and to re-expand to that asymptotic region from which it contracted; the dynamics is, therefore, truly unitary. If a wave packet is sufficiently …
A static self-gravitating electrically charged spherical thin shell embedded in a (3+1)-dimensional spacetime is used to study the thermodynamic and entropic properties of the corresponding spacetime. Inside the shell, the spacetime is flat, outside it is Reissner-Nordström, and this establishes the energy density, the pressure, and the electric charge in the shell. Imposing that the shell is at a given local temperature and that the first law of thermodynamics holds on the shell one can find the integrability conditions for the temperature and for the thermodynamic electric potential, the the…
Starting from the action of $(4,4)$ $2D$ twisted multiplets in the harmonic superspace with a double set of $SU(2)$ harmonic variables, we present its generalization which provides an off-shell description of a wide class of $(4,4)$ sigma models with torsion and non-commuting left and right complex structures. The distinguishing features of the action constructed are: (i) a nonabelian and in general nonlinear gauge invariance ensuring a correct number of physical degrees of freedom; (ii) an infinite tower of auxiliary fields. For a particular class of such models we explicitly demonstrate the …
We analyze several problems related to off-shell structure of open string sigma model by using a combination of derivative expansion and expansion in powers of the fields. According to the sigma model approach to bosonic open string theory, the tachyon effective action $S(T)$ coincides with the renormalized partition function $Z(T)$ of sigma model on a disk, up to a term vanishing on shell. On the other hand, $Z(T)$ is a generating functional of perturbative open string scattering amplitudes. If $S(T) = Z(T)$, then there should be no contribution of exchange diagrams to string amplitudes compu…
We present a manifestly supersymmetric off-shell formulation of a wide class of $(4,4)$ $2D$ sigma models with torsion and both commuting and non-commuting left and right complex structures in the harmonic superspace with a double set of $SU(2)$ harmonic variables. The distinguishing features of the relevant superfield action are: (i) in general nonabelian and nonlinear gauge invariance ensuring a correct number of physical degrees of freedom; (ii) an infinite tower of auxiliary fields. This action is derived from the most general one by imposing the integrability condition which follows from …
We study d=2, N=(2,2) non-linear sigma-models in (2,2) superspace. By analyzing the most general constraints on a superfield, we show that through an appropriate choice of coordinates, there are no other superfields than chiral, twisted chiral and semi-chiral ones. We study the resulting sigma-models and we speculate on the possibility that all (2,2) non-linear sigma-models can be described using these fields. We apply the results to two examples: the SU(2) x U(1) and the SU(2) x SU(2) WZW model. Pending upon the choice of complex structures, the former can be described in terms of either one …
The features of the fundamental thermodynamical relation (expressing entropy as function of state variables) that arise from the self-gravitating character of a system are analyzed. The models studied include not only a spherically symmetric hot matter shell with constant particle number but also a black hole characterized by a general thermal equation of state. These examples illustrate the formal structure of thermodynamics developed by Callen as applied to a gravitational configuration as well as the phenomenological manner in which Einstein equations largely determine the thermodynamical e…
The problem of how space-time responds to gravitating quantum matter in full quantum gravity has been one of the main questions that any program of quantization of gravity should address. Here we analyze this issue by considering the quantization of a collapsing null shell coupled to spherically symmetric loop quantum gravity. We show that the constraint algebra of canonical gravity is Abelian both classically and when quantized using loop quantum gravity techniques. The Hamiltonian constraint is well defined and suitable Dirac observables characterizing the problem were identified at the quan…
Non-linear sigma models with extended supersymmetry have constrained target space geometries, and can serve as effective tools for investigating and constructing new geometries. Analyzing the geometrical and topological properties of sigma models is necessary to understand the underlying structures of string theory. The most general two-dimensional sigma model with manifest N=(2,2) supersymmetry can be parametrized by chiral, twisted chiral and semichiral superfields. In the research presented in this thesis, N=(4,4) (twisted) supersymmetry is constructed for a semichiral sigma model. It is fo…
Off-shell $(4,0)$ supermultiplets in 2-dimensions are formulated. These are used to construct sigma models whose target spaces are vector bundles over manifolds that are hyperkähler with torsion. The off-shell supersymmetry implies that the complex structures are simultaneously integrable and allows us to write actions using extended superspace and projective superspace, giving an explicit construction of the target space geometries.
The thermodynamic properties of self-gravitating spherical thin matter shells an black holes in $d>4$ dimensions are studied, extending previous analysis for $d=4$. The shell joins a Minkowski interior to a Tangherlini exterior, i.e., a Schwarzschild exterior in $d$ dimensions, with $d\geqslant4$, The junction conditions alone together with the first law of thermodynamics enable one to establish that the entropy of the thin shell depends only on its own gravitational radius. Endowing the shell with a power-law temperature equation of state allows to establish a precise form for the entropy and…
As is well known, one can arrange the parameters of the O(N) non-linear sigma model to reproduce the low energy S-matrix elements of the renormalizable O(N) linear sigma model. In this note we provide details which are necessary in order to obtain the off-shell equivalence between the two theories.
The off-shell structure of the string sigma model is investigated. In the open bosonic string, nonperturbative effects are shown to depend crucially on the regularization scheme. A scheme retaining the notion of string width reproduces the structure of Witten's string field theory and the associated unconventional gauge transformations.
In order to study in a regularisation free manner the renormalisability of d=2 supersymmetric non-linear $\si$ models, one has to use the algebraic BRS methods ; moreover, in the absence of an off-shell formulation, one has often to deal with open algebras. We then recall in a pedagogical and non technical manner the standard methods used to handle these questions and illustrate them on N=1 supersymmetric non-linear $\si$ model in component fields, giving the first rigorous proof of their renormalisability. In the special case of compact homogeneous manifolds (non-linear $\si$ model on a coset…
We prove the uniqueness theorem for self-gravitating non-linear sigma-models in higher dimensional spacetime. Applying the positive mass theorem we show that Schwarzschild-Tagherlini spacetime is the only maximally extended, static asymptotically flat solution with non-rotating regular event horizon with a constant mapping.
We study the heat capacity of a static system of self-gravitating radiations analytically in the context of general relativity. To avoid the complexity due to a conical singularity at the center, we excise the central part and replace it with a regular spherically symmetric distribution of matters of which specifications we are not interested in. We assume that the mass inside the inner boundary and the locations of the inner and the outer boundaries are given. Then, we derive a formula relating the variations of physical parameters at the outer boundary with those at the inner boundary. Becau…
Nodal, excited compactons in the $\mathbb{C}P^N$ models with V-shaped potentials are analyzed. It is shown that the solutions exist as compact $Q$-balls and $Q$-shells. The solutions have a discontinuity in the second derivative associated with the character of the potential, however, their energy and charge densities are both continuous. The excited $Q$-balls and $Q$-shells are analyzed as electrically neutral and electrically charged objects.
Off-shell $(4,q)$ supermultiplets in 2-dimensions are constructed for $q=1,2,4$. These are used to construct sigma models whose target spaces are hyperkähler with torsion. The off-shell supersymmetry implies the three complex structures are simultaneously integrable and allows us to construct actions using extended superspace and projective superspace, giving an explicit construction of the target space geometries.
For two families of four-dimensional off-shell N = 2 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma-models constructed originally in projective superspace, we develop their formulation in terms of N = 1 chiral superfields. Specifically, these theories are: (i) sigma-models on cotangent bundles T*M of arbitrary real analytic Kaehler manifolds M; (ii) general superconformal sigma-models described by weight-one polar supermultiplets. Using superspace techniques, we obtain a universal expression for the holomorphic symplectic two-form ω^{(2,0)} which determines the second supersymmetry transformation and is assoc…
To investigate the possibility that intrinsic gravitational decoherence can be theoretically demonstrated within canonical quantum gravity, we develop a model of a self-gravitating interferometer. We search for evidence in the resulting interference pattern that would indicate coherence is fundamentally limited due to general relativistic effects. To eliminate the occurence of gravitational waves, we work in spherical symmetry, and construct the "beam" of the interferometer out of WKB states for an infinitesimally thin shell of matter. For internal consistency, we encode information about the …
Starting with the projective-superspace off-shell formulation for four-dimensional N = 2 supersymmetric sigma-models on cotangent bundles of arbitrary Hermitian symmetric spaces, their on-shell description in terms of N = 1 chiral superfields is developed. In particular, we derive a universal representation for the hyperkaehler potential in terms of the curvature of the symmetric base space. Within the tangent-bundle formulation for such sigma-models, completed recently in arXiv:0709.2633 and realized in terms of N = 1 chiral and complex linear superfields, we give a new universal formula for …
We analyse with the algebraic, regularisation independant, cohomological B.R.S. methods, the renormalisability of torsionless N=2 and N= 4 supersymmetric non-linear $\si$ models built on Kähler spaces. Surprisingly enough with respect to the common wisdom, in the case of N=2 supersymmetry, we obtain an anomaly candidate, at least in the compact Kähler Ricci-flat case. If its coefficient does differ from zero, such anomaly would imply the breaking of global N=2 supersymmetry and get into trouble some schemes of superstring compactification as such non-linear $\si$ models offer candidates for th…
It is well-known that the standard BCFW construction cannot be used for on-shell amplitudes in effective field theories due to bad behavior for large shifts. We show how to solve this problem in the case of the SU(N) non-linear sigma model, i.e. non-renormalizable model with infinite number of interaction vertices, using scaling properties of the semi-on-shell currents, and we present new on-shell recursion relations for all on-shell tree-level amplitudes in this theory.
In the on-shell formalism (mostly used in perturbative quantum field theory) the entries of the time ordered product T are on-shell fields (i.e. the basic fields satisfy the free field equations). With that, (multi)linearity of T is incompatible with the Action Ward identity. This can be circumvented by using the off-shell formalism in which the entries of T are off-shell fields. To relate on- and off-shell formalism correctly, a map sigma from on-shell fields to off-shell fields was introduced axiomatically by Duetsch and Fredenhagen. In that paper it was shown that, in the case of one real s…
Phase diagrams of the boson stars and shells of the $U(1)$ gauged $\mathbb{C}P^N$ nonlinear sigma model are studied. The solutions of the model exhibit both the ball- and the shell-shaped charge density depending on $N$. There appear four independent regions of the solutions which are essentially caused from the coexistence of electromagnetism and gravity. We examine several phase diagrams of the boson stars and the shells and discuss what and how the regions are emerged. A coupling with gravity allows for harboring of the charged black holes for the $Q$-shell solutions. Some solutions are str…
Semichiral sigma models with a four-dimensional target space do not support extended N=(4,4) supersymmetries off-shell arXiv:0903.2376, arXiv:0912.4724. We contribute towards the understanding of the non-manifest on-shell transformations in (2,2) superspace by analyzing the extended on-shell supersymmetry of such models and find that a rather general ansatz for the additional supersymmetry (not involving central charge transformations) leads to hyperkähler geometry. We give non-trivial examples of these models.
We revisit classical "on shell" duality, i.e., pseudoduality, in two dimensional conformally invariant classical sigma models and find some new interesting results. We show that any two sigma models that are "on shell" duals have opposite 1-loop renormalization group beta functions because of the integrability conditions for the pseudoduality transformation. A new result states for any two compact Lie groups of the same dimension there is a natural pseudoduality transformation that maps classical solutions of the WZW model on the first group into solutions of the WZW model on the second group.…
In this paper, we investigate tree-level scattering amplitude relations in $U(N)$ non-linear sigma model. We use Cayley parametrization. As was shown in the recent works [23,24] both on-shell amplitudes and off-shell currents with odd points have to vanish under Cayley parametrization. We prove the off-shell $U(1)$ identity and fundamental BCJ relation for even-point currents. By taking the on-shell limits of the off-shell relations, we show that the color-ordered tree amplitudes with even points satisfy $U(1)$-decoupling identity and fundamental BCJ relation, which have the same formations wi…
It is demonstrated that an infinite set of string-tree level on-shell Ward identities, which are valid to all sigma-model loop orders, can be systematically constructed without referring to the string field theory. As examples, bosonic massive scattering amplitudes are calculated explicitly up to the second massive excited states. Ward identities satisfied by these amplitudees are derived by using zero-norm states in the spetrum. In particular, the inter-particle Ward identity generated by the D2xD2' zero-norm state at the second massive level is demonstrated. The four physical propagating sta…
We study in detail the general structure and further properties of the tree-level amplitudes in the SU(N) nonlinear sigma model. We construct the flavor-ordered Feynman rules for various parameterizations of the SU(N) fields U(x), write down the Berends-Giele relations for the semi-on-shell currents and discuss their efficiency for the amplitude calculation in comparison with those of renormalizable theories. We also present an explicit form of the partial amplitudes up to ten external particles. It is well known that the standard BCFW recursive relations cannot be used for reconstruction of t…
We computed the actions for the 1D N=5 sigma-models with respect to the two inequivalent (2,8,6) multiplets. 4 supersymmetry generators are manifest, while the constraint originated by imposing the 5-th supersymmetry automatically induces a full N=8 off-shell invariance. The resulting action coincides in the two cases and corresponds to a conformally flat 2D target satisfying a special geometry of rigid type. To obtain these results we developed a computational method (for Maple 11) which does not require the notion of superfields and is instead based on the nowadays available list of the ineq…
The principal sigma model and Abelian gauge fields coupling is studied. By expressing the first-order formulation of the gauge field equations an implicit on-shell scalar-gauge field decoupling structure is revealed. It is also shown that due to this decoupling structure the scalars of the theory belong to the pure sigma model and the gauge fields sector consists of a number of coupled Maxwell theories with currents partially induced by the scalars.
The off-shell dynamics of the O(3) nonlinear sigma-model is probed in terms of spectral densities and two-point functions by means of the form factor approach. The exact form factors of the Spin field, Noether-current, EM-tensor and the topological charge density are computed up to 6-particles. The corresponding $n\leq 6$ particle spectral densities are used to compute the two-point functions, and are argued to deviate at most a few per mille from the exact answer in the entire energy range below 10^3 in units of the mass gap. To cover yet higher energies we propose an extrapolation scheme to …
The hedgehog ansatz for spherically symmetric spacetimes in self-gravitating nonlinear sigma models and Skyrme models is revisited and its generalization for non-spherically symmetric spacetimes is proposed. The key idea behind our construction is that, even if the matter fields depend on the Killing coordinates in a nontrivial way, the corresponding energy-momentum tensor can still be compatible with spacetime symmetries. Our generalized hedgehog ansatz reduces the Skyrme equations to coupled differential equations for two scalar fields together with several constraint equations between them.…
We construct on-shell ${\mathcal{N}}=2$ nonlinear sigma models on $SO(2N)/U(N)$ and $Sp(N)/U(N)$ by holomorphically embedding the models in the hyper-Kähler nonlinear sigma model on the cotangent bundle of the Grassmann manifold $T^\ast G_{2N,N}$ in the ${\mathcal{N}}=1$ superspace formalism. We apply the moduli matrix formalism to the mass-deformed nonlinear sigma models on the quadrics to study three-pronged junctions by using a recently proposed diagram method.
We present a detailed study of the most general N=2 supersymmetric sigma models in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter space AdS_4 formulated in terms of N=1 chiral superfields. The target space is demonstrated to be a non-compact hyperkahler manifold restricted to possess a special Killing vector field which generates an SO(2) group of rotations on the two-sphere of complex structures and necessarily leaves one of them invariant. All hyperkahler cones, that is the target spaces of N=2 superconformal sigma models, prove to possess such a vector field that belongs to the Lie algebra of an isometry …
We review a manifestly supersymmetric off-shell formulation of a wide class of torsionful $(4,4)$ $2D$ sigma models and their massive deformations in the harmonic superspace with a double set of $SU(2)$ harmonic variables. Sigma models with both commuting and non-commuting left and right complex structures are treated.
We elaborate on four different types of twisted ${\cal N}=(4,4)$ supermultiplets in the $SU(2) \times SU(2)$, 2D harmonic superspace. In the conventional ${\cal N}=(4,4)$, 2D superspace they are described by the superfields $\hat q^{i a}$, $\hat q^{\und i a}$, $\hat q^{i \und a}$, $\hat q^{\und i \und a}$ subjected to proper differential constraints, $(i, \und i, a, \und a)$ being the doublet indices of four groups SU(2) which form the full R-symmetry group $SO(4)_L\times SO(4)_R$ of ${\cal N}=(4,4)$ supersymmetry. We construct the torsionful off--shell sigma model actions for each type of the…
For the most general off-shell N = 2 supersymmetric sigma model in projective superspace, we elaborate on its formulation in terms of N = 1 chiral superfields. A universal (model-independent) expression is obtained for the holomorphic symplectic two-form, which determines the second supersymmetry transformation. This two-form is associated with the two complex structures of the hyperkahler target space, which are complimentary to the one used to realize the target space as a Kahler manifold.
We construct the supersymmetric nonlinear sigma model in a fixed AdS_5 background. We use component fields and find that the complex bosons must be the coordinates of a hyper-Kahler manifold that admits a Killing vector satisfying an inhomogeneous tri-holomorphic condition. We propose boundary conditions that map the on-shell bulk hypermultiplets into off-shell chiral multiplets on 3-branes that foliate the bulk. The supersymmetric AdS_5 isometries reduce to superconformal transformations on the brane fields.
Chern-Simons gauge theories in 3 dimensions and the Poisson Sigma Model (PSM) in 2 dimensions are examples of the same theory, if their field equations are interpreted as morphisms of Lie algebroids and their symmetries (on-shell) as homotopies of such morphisms. We point out that the (off-shell) gauge symmetries of the PSM in the literature are not globally well-defined for non-parallelizable Poisson manifolds and propose a covariant definition of them as left action of some finite-dimensional Lie algebroid. Our approach allows to avoid complications arising in the infinite dimensional super-…
We construct the most general N=2 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma-model in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) space in terms of N=1 chiral superfields. The target space is shown to be a non-compact hyperkahler manifold restricted to possess a special Killing vector field. A remarkable property of the sigma-model constructed is that the algebra of OSp(2|4) transformations is closed off the mass shell.
In this work, taking advantage of the Generalized Hedgehog Ansatz, we construct new self-gravitating solitons in a cavity with mirror-like boundary conditions for the SU(2) Non-linear Sigma Model and Skyrme model. For spherically symmetric spacetimes, we are able to reduce the system to three independent equations that are numerically integrated. There are two branches of well-behaved solutions. The first branch is defined for arbitrary values of the Skyrme coupling and therefore also leads to a gravitating soliton in the Non-linear Sigma Model, while the second branch exists only for non-vani…
We investigate the relation between on-shell and zero-momentum non-perturbative quantities entering the parametrization of the two-point Green's function of two-dimensional non-linear O(N) sigma models. We present accurate estimates of ratios of mass-scales and renormalization constants, obtained by an analysis of the strong-coupling expansion of the two-point Green's function. These ratios allow to connect exact known on-shell results with typical zero-momentum lattice evaluations. Our results are supported by the 1/N-expansion.
A new kind of Q-balls is found: Q-balls in a non-linear sigma model. Their main properties are presented together with those of their self-gravitating generalization, sigma model Q-stars. A simple special limit of solutions which are bound by gravity alone (``sigma stars'') is also discussed briefly. The analysis is based on calculating the mass, global U(1) charge and binding energy for families of solutions parameterized by the central value of the scalar field. Two kinds (differing by the potential term) of the new sigma model Q-balls and Q-stars are analyzed. They are found to share some c…
