We carried out optical high-resolution spectroscopy of T Tauri stars using the Subaru Telescope. Using archived data from the Keck Telescope and the Very Large Telescope, we detected forbidden lines of [S II] at 4069 A, in addition to those of [O I] at 5577 A and 6300 A, for 13 T Tauri stars. We consider that low-velocity components of these forbidden lines emanate from the wind associated with T Tauri stars. Using two flux ratios of the three lines, we simultaneously determined the hydrogen density and temperature of the winds. The winds of T Tauri stars have a hydrogen density of $2.5 \times 10^{6}$ cm$^{-3}$ - $2.5 \times 10^{9}$ cm$^{-3}$ and a temperature of 10800 -18000 K. The mass loss rates by the wind are estimated to lie in the range from $2.0 \times 10^{-10}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ to $1.4 \times 10^{-9}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$. The mass loss rates are found to increase with increasing mass accretion rates. The ratio of the mass loss rate to the mass accretion rate is 0.001-0.1 for classical T Tauri stars and 0.1-1 for transitional disk objects.
Spectroscopic results of HU Tauri that I presented in my Ph.D thesis (Parthasarathy 1979) are published in this paper. The H-alpha line of the secondary is detected. The detection of H-alpha line of the secondary is confirmed based on the high resolution Coude Reticon spectra obtained with the 2.1-m telescope of the McDonald observatory.
The wind interaction with the dusty environment of the classical T Tauri star RY Tau has been investigated. During two seasons of 2013-2015 we carried out a spectroscopic and photometric (BVR) monitoring of the star. A correlation between the stellar brightness and the radial velocity of the wind determined from the H-alpha and Na D line profiles has been found for the first time. The irregular stellar brightness variations are shown to be caused by extinction in a dusty disk wind at a distance of about 0.2 AU from the star. We suppose, that variations of the circumstellar extinction results f…
In the framework of the GIARPS High-resolution Observations of T Tauri stars (GHOsT) project, we aim to characterize the atomic and molecular winds in a sample of classical T Tauri stars (CTTs) of the Taurus-Auriga region. We analyzed the flux calibrated [OI] 630 nm and $\rm H_2$ 2.12 $\rm μm$ lines in a sample of 36 CTTs observed at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo with the HARPS and GIANO spectrographs. We decomposed the line profiles into different kinematic Gaussian components and focused on the most frequently detected component, the narrow low-velocity (v$\rm_p < 20$ $\rm km$ $\rm s^{-1}…
Spectral observations of classical T Tauri stars show a wide range of line profiles, many of which reveal signs of matter inflow and outflow. Halpha is the most commonly observed line profile due to its intensity, and it is highly dependent on the characteristics of the surrounding environment of these stars. Our aim is to analyze how the Halpha line profile is affected by the various parameters of our model which contains both the magnetospheric and disk wind contributions to the Halpha flux. We used a dipolar axisymmetric stellar magnetic field to model the stellar magnetosphere and a modifi…
Classical T Tauri stars are pre-main-sequence objects that undergo simultaneous accretion, wind outflow, and coronal X-ray emission. The impact of plasma on the stellar surface from magnetospheric accretion streams is likely to be a dominant source of energy and momentum in the upper atmospheres of these stars. This paper presents a set of models for the dynamics and heating of three distinct regions on T Tauri stars that are affected by accretion: (1) the shocked plasmas directly beneath the magnetospheric accretion streams, (2) stellar winds that are accelerated along open magnetic flux tube…
In this study, we present high-resolution millimeter observations of the dust and gas disk of the T Tauri star AS 205 N and its companion, AS 205 S, obtained with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array. The gas disk around AS 205 N, for which infrared emission spectroscopy demonstrates significant deviations from Keplerian motion that has been interpreted as evidence for a disk wind (Pontoppidan et al. 2011; Bast et al. 2011), also displays significant deviations from Keplerian disk emission in the observations presented here. Detections near both AS 205 N and S are obtained in 1.3 mm continuum, 1…
Recent spectropolarimetric observations suggest that young low-mass stars such as classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) possess relatively strong (~kG) magnetic field. This supports a scenario in which the final accretion onto the stellar surface proceeds through a magnetosphere, and the winds are formed in magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) processes. We examine recent numerical simulations of magnetospheric accretions via an inclined dipole and a complex magnetic fields. The difference between a stable accretion regime, in which accretion occurs in ordered funnel streams, and an unstable regime, in which …
Using Keck/HIRES spectra Δv ~ 7 km/s, we analyze forbidden lines of [O I] 6300 Å, [O I] 5577 Å and [S II] 6731 Å from 33 T Tauri stars covering a range of disk evolutionary stages. After removing a high velocity component (HVC) associated with microjets, we study the properties of the low velocity component (LVC). The LVC can be attributed to slow disk winds that could be magnetically (MHD) or thermally (photoevaporative) driven. Both of these winds play an important role in the evolution and dispersal of protoplanetary material. LVC emission is seen in all 30 stars with detected [O I] but onl…
Classical T Tauri stars (CTTs) magnetically interact with their surrounding disks, a process that is thought to regulate their rotational evolution. In this work, we compute torques acting onto the stellar surface of CTTs arising from different accreting (accretion funnels) and ejecting (stellar winds and magnetospheric ejections) flow components. Furthermore, we compare the magnetic braking due to stellar winds in two different systems: isolated and accreting stars. 2.5D magnetohydrodynamic, time-dependent, axisymmetric simulations are employed. For both systems the stellar wind is thermally …
We present the emission line profile models of hydrogen and helium based on the results from axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations of the wind formed near the disk-magnetosphere boundary of classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs). We extend the previous outflow models of `the conical-shell wind' by Romanova et al. to include a well defined magnetospheric accretion funnel flow which is essential for modelling the optical and near-infrared hydrogen and helium lines of CTTSs. The MHD model with an intermediate mass-accretion rate shows outflows in conical-shell shape with a half opening ang…
CONTEXT. Because of the presence of rotation and accretion disks, classical T Tauri stars have symmetry planes that are normally inclined relative to the plane of the sky. The inclination angles affect the observed spectral properties of these objects. AIMS. We study the influence of the inclination angles on classical T Tauri star spectra in an empirical manner. METHODS. Published inclination angles, derived from the stellar photospheric rotation or from spatially resolved circumstellar disk observations, are compared with various observed spectral properties, and correlations are established…
Classical T Tauri stars with ages of less than 10 Myr possess accretion discs. Magnetohydrodynamic processes at the boundary between the disc and the stellar magnetosphere control the accretion and ejections gas flows. We carried out a long series of simultaneous spectroscopic and photometric observations of the classical T Tauri stars RY Tau and SU Aur with the aim to quantify the accretion and outflow dynamics at time scales from days to years. It is shown that dust in the disc wind is the main source of photometric variability of these stars. In RY Tau we observed a new effect: during event…
A series of spectra of the RV Tauri star R Scuti taken as it rose from a deep minimum to a bright maximum during 2013 October and November reveals major changes taking place in the photosphere and outer atmosphere of the star. This may be the first such series of spectra and demonstrates the capability of amateur spectroscopy for studying these complex stars.
We report sensitive Spitzer IRS spectroscopy in the 10-20 micron region of TW Hya, a nearby T Tauri star. The unusual spectral energy distribution of the source, that of a transition object, indicates that the circumstellar disk in the system has experienced significant evolution, possibly as a result of planet formation. The spectrum we measure is strikingly different from that of other classical T Tauri stars reported in the literature, displaying no strong emission features of water, acetylene, or HCN. The difference indicates that the inner planet formation region (within 5 AU) of the gase…
We present new ALMA Band 6 observations including the CO(2-1) line and 1.3 mm continuum emission from the surroundings of the young stellar object DO Tauri. The ALMA CO molecular data show three different series of rings at different radial velocities. These rings have radii around 220 au and 800 au. We make individual fits to the rings and note that their centers are aligned with DO Tauri and its optical high-velocity jet. In addition, we notice that the velocity of these structures increases with the separation from the young star. We discuss the data under the hypothesis that the rings repr…
Context. AGB stars go through a process of strong mass-loss that involves pulsations of the atmosphere, which extends to a region where the conditions are adequate for dust grains to form. Radiation pressure acts on these grains which, coupled to the gas, drive a massive outflow. The details of this process are not clear, including which molecules are involved in the condensation of dust grains. Aims. To study the role of the SiO molecule in the process of dust formation and mass-loss in M-type AGB stars. Methods. Using the IRAM NOEMA interferometer we observed the $^{28}$SiO and $^{29}$SiO $J…
We present observational results from optical long-slit spectroscopy of parsec-scale jets of DG Tau. From HH 158 and HH 702, the optical emission lines of H_alpha, [O I] 6300, 6363, [N II] 6548, 6584, and [S II] 6716, 6731 are obtained. The kinematics and physical properties (i.e., electron density, electron temperature, ionization fraction, and mass-loss rate) are investigated along the blueshifted jet up to 650 arcseconds distance from the source. For HH 158, the radial velocity ranges from -50 to -250 km/s. The proper motion of the knots is 0.196 - 0.272 /yr. The electron density is ~ 10^{4…
By means of numerical simulations, we investigate magnetized stellar winds of pre-main-sequence stars. In particular we analyze under which circumstances these stars will present elongated magnetic features (e.g., helmet streamers, slingshot prominences, etc). We focus on weak-lined T Tauri stars, as the presence of the tenuous accretion disk is not expected to have strong influence on the structure of the stellar wind. We show that the plasma-beta parameter (the ratio of thermal to magnetic energy densities) is a decisive factor in defining the magnetic configuration of the stellar wind. Usin…
Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and photoevaporative winds are thought to play an important role in the evolution and dispersal of planet-forming disks. We report the first high-resolution ($Δv\sim$6\kms) analysis of [S II] $λ$4068, [O I] $λ$5577, and [O I] $λ$6300 lines from a sample of 48 T Tauri stars. Following Simon et al. (2016), we decompose them into three kinematic components: a high-velocity component (HVC) associated with jets, and a low-velocity narrow (LVC-NC) and broad (LVC-BC) components. We confirm previous findings that many LVCs are blueshifted by more than 1.5 kms$^{-1}$ thus most…
We perform three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of magnetospheric accretion in a T Tauri star to study the accretion and wind structures in the close vicinity of the star. The gas accreting onto the star consists of the gas from the magnetospheric boundary and the failed disk winds. The accreting gas is commonly found as a multi-column accretion, which is consistent with observations. A significant fraction of the angular momentum of the accreting flows is removed by the magnetic fields of conical disk winds and turbulent failed winds inside and near the magnetosphere. As a result…
Winds in protoplanetary disks play an important role in their evolution and dispersal. However, what physical process is driving the winds is still unclear (i.e. magnetically vs thermally driven), and can only be understood by directly confronting theoretical models with observational data. We use hydrodynamic photoevaporative disk-wind models and post-process them with a thermo-chemical model to produce synthetic observables for the o-H$_2$ at 2.12 micron and [OI] at 0.63 micron spectral lines and directly compare the results to a sample of observations. Our photoevaporative disk-wind model i…
T Tauri stars produce broad Lyman-alpha emission lines that contribute $\sim$88% of the total UV flux incident on the inner circumstellar disks. Lyman-alpha photons are generated at the accretion shocks and in the protostellar chromospheres and must travel through accretion flows, winds and jets, the protoplanetary disks, and the interstellar medium before reaching the observer. This trajectory produces asymmetric, double-peaked features that carry kinematic and opacity signatures of the disk environments. To understand the link between the evolution of Lyman-alpha emission lines and the disks…
We present multidimensional non-LTE radiative transfer models of hydrogen and helium line profiles formed in the accretion flows and the outflows near the star-disk interaction regions of classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs). The statistical equilibrium calculations, performed under the assumption of the Sobolev approximation using the radiative transfer code TORUS, has been improved to include He I and He II energy levels. This allows us to probe the physical conditions of the inner wind of CTTSs by simultaneously modelling the robust wind diagnostic line He I (10830) and the accretion diagnostic …
Ultraviolet observations of classical T Tauri Stars (cTTSs) have shown that there is a hot (Te ~ 80,000 K) and dense (ne ~ 1e10 cm-3) component associated with the large scale jet. This hot component is formed very close to the base of the jet providing fundamental information on the jet formation mechanism. In this series, we have investigated whether this component can be formed in disc winds, either cool or warm. To conclude the series, jet launching from the interface between the magnetic rotor (the star) and the disc is studied. Synthetic profiles are calculated from numerical simulations…
We have analysed the [OI]6300 A line in a sample of 131 young stars with discs in the Lupus, Chamaeleon and signa Orionis star forming regions, observed with the X-shooter spectrograph at VLT. The stars have mass accretion rates spanning from 10^{-12} to 10^{-7} Mo/yr. The line profile was deconvolved into a low velocity component (LVC, < 40 km/s) and a high velocity component (HVC, > 40 km/s ), originating from slow winds and high velocity jets, respectively. The LVC is by far the most frequent component, with a detection rate of 77%, while only 30% of sources have a HVC. The [OI]6300 luminos…
We aim to characterise the surface magnetic fields of a sample of 8 T Tauri stars from high-resolution near-IR spectroscopy. Some stars in our sample are known to be magnetic from previous spectroscopic or spectropolarimetric studies. Our goals are 1) to apply Zeeman broadening modelling to T Tauri stars with high-resolution data, 2) to expand the sample of stars with measured surface magnetic field strengths, 3) to investigate possible rotational or long-term magnetic variability by comparing spectral time series of given targets, and 4) to compare the magnetic field modulus <B> tracing small…
The early-K star T Cha, a member of the relatively nearby (D ~ 100 pc) epsilon Cha Association, is a relatively "old" (age ~7 Myr) T Tauri star that is still sporadically accreting from an orbiting disk whose inner regions are evidently now being cleared by a close, substellar companion. We report the identification, via analysis of proper motions, serendipitous X-ray imaging spectroscopy, and followup optical spectroscopy, of a new member of the epsilon Cha Association that is very likely a low-mass companion to T Cha at a projected separation of ~38 kAU. The combined X-ray and optical spectr…
Based on our previous work (Vidotto et al. 2009a), we investigate the effects on the wind and magnetospheric structures of weak-lined T Tauri stars due to a misalignment between the axis of rotation of the star and its magnetic dipole moment vector. In such configuration, the system loses the axisymmetry presented in the aligned case, requiring a fully 3D approach. We perform 3D numerical MHD simulations of stellar winds and study the effects caused by different model parameters. The system reaches a periodic behavior with the same rotational period of the star. We show that the magnetic field…
We conjecture that observed protoplanetary disc accretion rates may be explained with low viscosities which could be the result of hydrodynamic turbulence. We show that viscosities parameterized in the usual way with $α\gtrsim 10^{-4}$, comparable to values suggested for hydrodynamic turbulence, can explain the observed accretion rates and lifetimes with plausible inner disc surface densities. Our models are also in better agreement with surface density estimates of the minimum mass solar nebula than models with rapid transport for a given mass accretion rate, such as recent models of accretio…
We wish to test the origins proposed for the extended hot H2 at 2000K around the atomic jet from the T Tauri star DGTau, in order to constrain the wide-angle wind structure and the possible presence of an MHD disk wind. We present flux calibrated IFS observations in H2 1-0 S(1) obtained with SINFONI/VLT. Thanks to spatial deconvolution by the PSF and to accurate correction for uneven slit illumination, we performed a thorough analysis and modeled the morphology, kinematics, and surface brightness. We also compared our results with studies in [FeII], [OI], and FUV-pumped H2. The limb-brightened…
In recent years a new class of Young Stellar Object has been defined, referred to as dippers, where large transient drops in flux are observed. These dips are too large to be attributed to stellar variability, last from hours to days and can reduce the flux of a star by 10-50\%. This variability has been attributed to occultations by warps or accretion columns near the inner edge of circumstellar disks. Here we present 95 dippers in the Upper Scorpius association and $ρ$ Ophiuchus cloud complex found in K2 Campaign 2 data using supervised machine learning with a Random Forest classifier. We al…
Disks around T Tauri stars are known to lose mass, as best shown by the profiles of forbidden emission lines of low ionization species. At least two separate kinematic components have been identified, one characterised by velocity shifts of tens to hundreds km/s (HVC) and one with much lower velocity of few km/s (LVC). The HVC are convincingly associated to the emission of jets, but the origin of the LVC is still unknown. In this paper we analyze the forbidden line spectrum of a sample of 44 mostly low mass young stars in Lupus and $σ$-Ori observed with the X-Shooter ESO spectrometer. We detec…
We present a SOFIA FORCAST grism spectroscopic survey to examine the mineralogy of the circumstellar dust in a sample of post-asymptotic giant branch yellow supergiants that are believed to be the precursors of planetary nebulae. Our mineralogical model of each star indicates the presence of both carbon rich and oxygen rich dust species-contrary to simple dredge-up models-with a majority of the dust in the form of amorphous carbon and graphite. The oxygen rich dust is primarily in the form of amorphous silicates. The spectra do not exhibit any prominent crystalline silicate emission features. …
In accreting young stars one of the prominent spectral features in the near infrared is the Paschen and Brackett series in emission. We examine hydrogen line ratios for 16 classical T Tauri stars from SpeX spectra and and assess the trends with veiling and accretion. The observed line ratios are compared to two theoretical models for line formation: (1) Baker and Menzel's (1938) Case B for radiative ionization and recombination and (2) a set of local line excitation calculations designed to replicate the conditions in T Tauri winds and magnetic accretion columns (Kwan & Fischer 2011). While th…
The star S CrA is a tight visual binary consisting of two classical T Tauri stars, both with outstanding spectral characteristics and brightness variations. High-resolution spectra were collected at ESO and photometric observations with the SMARTS telescope. Both stars undergo large variation in brightness caused mainly by variable foreground extinction. From the stellar parameters we conclude that the two stars are remarkably similar, and that S CrA can be regarded as a T Tauri twin. Rotational periods and inclinations are also similar. The stars differ, however, in terms of degree of veiling…
Observations of jets from young stellar objects reveal the asymmetric outflows from some sources. A large set of $2.5$D MHD simulations has been carried out for axisymmetric viscous/diffusive disc accretion to rotating magnetized stars for the purpose of assessing the conditions where the outflows or jets are asymmetric relative to the equatorial plane. We consider initial magnetic fields that are symmetric about the equatorial plane and consist of a radially distributed field threading the disc (disc-field) and a stellar dipole field.({\bf 1}). For pure disc-fields the symmetry or asymmetry o…
The evolution of protoplanetary disks is believed to be driven largely by angular momentum transport resulting from magnetized disk winds and turbulent viscosity. The ionization of the disk that is essential for these processes has been thought due to host star coronal X-rays but could also arise from energetic particles produced by coronal flares or by travelling shock waves and advected by the stellar wind. We have performed test-particle numerical simulations of energetic protons propagating into a realistic T~Tauri stellar wind, including a superposed small-scale magnetostatic turbulence. …
We summarize Hubble Space Telescope (HST) UV observations of the weak-lined T Tauri star (wTTS) PDS 70 obtained with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS). These observations provide the first far-UV (FUV) and near-UV (NUV) spectra of PDS 70. Ground-based observations have so far revealed two formative giant planets orbiting in a wide gap in its circumstellar disk. Both the star and young planets are thought to still be accreting. The HST spectra provide new insight into physical conditions in the star's outer atmosphere and circumstellar environment. The spectra are dominated by chr…
Context. RW Aur A is a classical T Tauri star (CTTS) with an unusually rich emission line spectrum. In 2014 the star faded by ~ 3 magnitudes in the V band and went into a long-lasting minimum. In 2010 the star suffered from a similar fading, although less deep. These events in RW Aur A are very unusual among the CTTS, and have been attributed to occultations by passing dust clouds. Aims. We want to find out if any spectral changes took place after the last fading of RW Aur A with the intention to gather more information on the occulting body and the cause of the phenomenon. Methods. We collect…
In the framework of the GIARPS@TNG High-resolution Observations of T Tauri stars (GHOsT) project, we study the accretion properties of 37 Classical T Tauri Stars of the Taurus-Auriga star forming region (SFR) with the aim of characterizing their relation with the properties of the central star, of jets and disk winds, and of the global disk structure, in synergy with complementary ALMA millimiter observations. We derive stellar parameters, optical veiling, accretion luminosity ($\rm L_{acc}$) and mass accretion rate ($\rm \dot M_{acc}$) in a homogeneous and self-consistent way using high-resol…
The mechanism for jet formation in the disks of T Tauri stars is poorly understood. Observational benchmarks to launching models can be provided by tracing the physical properties of the kinematic components of the wind and jet in the inner 100 au of the disk surface. In the framework of the GHOsT (GIARPS High-resolution Observations of T Tauri stars) project, we aim to perform a multi-line analysis of the velocity components of the gas in the jet acceleration zone. We analyzed the GIARPS-TNG spectra of six objects in the Taurus-Auriga complex (RY Tau, DG Tau, DL Tau, HN Tau, DO Tau, RW Aur A)…
The rotational evolution of accreting pre-main-sequence stars is influenced by its magnetic interaction with its surrounding circumstellar disk. Using the PLUTO code, we perform 2.5D magnetohydrodynamic, axisymmetric, time-dependent simulations of star-disk interaction---with an initial dipolar magnetic field structure, and a viscous and resistive accretion disk---in order to model the three mechanisms that contribute to the net stellar torque: accretion flow, stellar wind, and magnetospheric ejections (periodic inflation and reconnection events). We investigate how changes in the stellar magn…
The results of a spectroscopic survey of H alpha emission line stars associated with fourteen bright rimmed clouds are presented. Slit-less optical spectroscopy was carried out with the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) 2m telescope and IUCAA Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (IFOSC). H alpha emission line was detected from 173 objects. Among them 85 objects have a strong H alpha emission line with its equivalent width larger than 10 A. Those are classical T Tauri stars. 52 objects have a weak H alpha emission line with its equivalent width less than 10 A and do…
We present the results of an optical photometry and high-resolution spectroscopy campaign for a modest sample of X-ray selected stars in the Chamaeleon and Rho Ophiuchus star forming regions. With R~50000 optical spectra, we establish kinematic membership of the parent association and confirm stellar youth for each star in our sample. With the acquisition of new standardized BVIc photometry, in concert with near-infrared data from the literature, we derive age and mass from stellar positions in model-dependent Hertzsprung-Russell diagrams. We compare isochronal ages derived using colour-depend…
The most extended, closed magnetic loops inferred on T Tauri stars confine hot, X-ray emitting plasma at distances from the stellar surface beyond the the X-ray bright corona and closed large-scale field, distances comparable to the corotation radius. Mechanical equilibrium models have shown that dense condensations, or "slingshot prominences", can rise to great heights due to their density and temperatures cooler than their environs. On T Tauri stars, however, we detect plasma at temperatures hotter than the ambient coronal temperature. By previous model results, these loops should not reach …
We present high-quality, medium resolution X-shooter/VLT spectra in the range 300-2500 nm for a sample of 12 very low-mass stars in the σOrionis cluster. The sample includes stars with masses ranging from 0.08 to 0.3 M$_\odot$. The aim of this first paper is to investigate the reliability of the many accretion tracers currently used to measure the mass accretion rate in low-mass, young stars. We use our spectra to measure the accretion luminosity from the continuum excess emission in the UV and visual; the derived mass accretion rates range from 10$^{-9}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ down to 5$\times…
We used the TNG/GIANO instrument to obtain near-IR high-resolution spectra (R~50000) of XZ Tau and DR Tau, two actively accreting T Tauri stars classified as EXors. The analysis of the observed features provides information on the properties of the inner disk, the accretion columns, and the winds. Both sources display composite HI line profiles, with contributions from both accreting gas and high-velocity winds. These lines become more symmetric and narrower with increasing upper energy, which may be interpreted in terms of two components with different decrements or imputed to self-absorption…
Multicolour broadband photometry and flux calibrated low resolution spectroscopy between 2014 and 2018 are used to investigate the behaviour of the highly variable Herbig Ae star RR Tauri. As the star experienced a deep Algol-like fade by a factor of over 10 in flux, we found the change in spectral continuum to be grey while Hα emission flux halved. We also observed the (V-Rc) colour index reddening as the star faded suggesting emission detectable in the Rc-band but beyond our spectral response. We confirm that the circumstellar reddening of RR Tau is consistent with an extinction ratio Rv = 5…
We present optical spectrophotometric monitoring of four active T Tauri stars (DG Tau, RY Tau, XZ Tau, RW Aur A) at high spectral resolution ($R \ga 1 \times 10^4$), to investigate the correlation between time variable mass ejection seen in the jet/wind structure of the driving source and time variable mass accretion probed by optical emission lines. This may allow us to constrain the understanding of the jet/wind launching mechanism, the location of the launching region, and the physical link with magnetospheric mass accretion. In 2010, observations were made at six different epochs to invest…
Core-accretion planet formation begins in protoplanetary disks with the growth of small, ISM dust grains into larger particles. The progress of grain growth, which can be quantified using 10 micron silicate spectroscopy, has broad implications for the final products of planet formation. Previous studies have attempted to correlate stellar and disk properties with the 10 micron silicate feature in an effort to determine which stars are efficient at grain growth. Thus far there does not appear to be a dominant correlated parameter. In this paper, we use spatially resolved adaptive optics spectro…
