We consider functions with an asymptotic mean value property, known to characterize harmonicity in Riemannian manifolds, in doubling metric measure spaces. We show that the strongly amv-harmonic functions are Hölder continuous for any exponent below one. More generally, we define the class of functions with finite amv-norm and show that functions in this class belong to a fractional Hajlasz-Sobolev space and their blow-ups satisfy the mean-value property. Furthermore, in the weighted Euclidean setting we find an elliptic PDE satisfied by amv-harmonic functions.
In the following paper, we prove a dimension bound on the singular set of a Radon measure assuming its doubling ratio converges uniformly on compact sets. More precisely, we prove that if a Radon measure is $n$-Uniformly Asymptotically Doubling, then $\dim(\mathcal{S}_μ) \leq n-3$, where $\mathcal{S}_μ$ is the singular set of the measure.
We show that, under certain geometric conditions, there are no nonconstant quasiminimizers with finite $p$th power energy in a (not necessarily complete) metric measure space equipped with a globally doubling measure supporting a global $p$-Poincaré inequality. The geometric conditions are that either (a) the measure has a sufficiently strong volume growth at infinity, or (b) the metric space is annularly quasiconvex (or its discrete version, annularly chainable) around some point in the space. Moreover, on the weighted real line $\mathbf{R}$, we characterize all locally doubling measures, sup…
The uniformization and hyperbolization transformations formulated by Bonk, Heinonen and Koskela in \emph{"Uniformizing Gromov Hyperbolic Spaces"}, Astérisque {\bf 270} (2001), dealt with geometric properties of metric spaces. In this paper we consider metric measure spaces and construct a parallel transformation of measures under the uniformization and hyperbolization procedures. We show that if a locally compact roughly starlike Gromov hyperbolic space is equipped with a measure that is uniformly locally doubling and supports a uniformly local $p$-Poincaré inequality, then the transformed mea…
We study the properties of harmonic measure in semi-uniform domains. Aikawa and Hirata showed in \cite{AH08} that, for John domains satisfying the capacity density condition (CDC), the doubling property for harmonic measure is equivalent to the domain being semi-uniform. Our first result removes the John condition by showing that any domain satisfying the CDC whose harmonic measure is doubling is semi-uniform. Next, we develop a substitute for some classical estimates on harmonic measure in nontangentially accessible domains that works in semi-uniform domains. We also show that semi-uniform do…
We prove explicit doubling inequalities and obtain uniform upper bounds (under $(d-1)$-dimensional Hausdorff measure) of nodal sets of weak solutions for a family of linear elliptic equations with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients. The doubling inequalities, explicitly depending on the doubling index, are proved at different scales by a combination of convergence rates, a three-ball inequality from certain "analyticity", and a monotonicity formula of a frequency function. The upper bounds of nodal sets are shown by using the doubling inequalities, approximations by harmonic functions a…
Following ideas of Caffarelli and Silvestre in~\cite{CS}, and using recent progress in hyperbolic fillings, we define fractional $p$-Laplacians $(-Δ_p)^θ$ with $0<θ<1$ on any compact, doubling metric measure space $(Z,d,ν)$, and prove existence, regularity and stability for the non-homogenous non-local equation $(-Δ_p)^θu =f.$ These results, in turn, rest on the new existence, global Hölder regularity and stability theorems that we prove for the Neumann problem for $p$-Laplacians $Δ_p$, $1<p<\infty$, in bounded domains of measure metric spaces endowed with a doubling measure that supports a Po…
This paper focuses on a relation between the growth of harmonic functions and the Hausdorff measure of their zero sets. Let $u$ be a real-valued harmonic function in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $u(0)=0$ and $n\geq 3$. We prove $$\mathcal{H}^{n-1}(\{u=0\} \cap B(0,2)) \gtrsim_{\varepsilon} N^{1-\varepsilon},$$ where the doubling index $N$ is a notion of growth defined by $$ \sup_{B(0, 1)}|u| = 2^N \sup_{B(0,\frac{1}{2})}|u|.$$ This gives an almost sharp lower bound for the Hausdorff measure of the zero set of $u$, which is conjectured to be linear in $N$. The new ingredients of the article are the noti…
By seeing whether a Liouville type theorem holds for positive, bounded, and/or finite energy $p$-harmonic and $p$-quasiharmonic functions, we classify proper metric spaces equipped with a locally doubling measure supporting a local $p$-Poincaré inequality. Similar classifications have earlier been obtained for Riemann surfaces and Riemannian manifolds. We also study the inclusions between these classes of metric measure spaces, and their relationship to the $p$-hyperbolicity of the metric space and its ends. In particular, we characterize spaces that carry nonconstant $p$-harmonic functions wi…
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact manifold satisfying the volume doubling condition, with doubling index $N$ and reverse doubling index $n$, $n\le N$, both for large balls. Assume a Gaussian upper bound for the heat kernel, and an $L^2$-Poincaré inequality outside a compact set. If $2<n$, then we show that for $p\in (2,n)$, $(R_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz transform, $(G_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the gradient of the heat semigroup, and $(RH_p)$: reverse $L^p$-Hölder inequality for the gradient of harmonic functions, are equivalent to each other. Our characterization implies that for $p\…
The trichotomy between regular, semiregular, and strongly irregular boundary points for $p$-harmonic functions is obtained for unbounded open sets in complete metric spaces with a doubling measure supporting a $p$-Poincaré inequality, $1<p<\infty$. We show that these are local properties. We also deduce several characterizations of semiregular points and strongly irregular points. In particular, semiregular points are characterized by means of capacity, $p$-harmonic measures, removability, and semibarriers.
We prove global stability for the Charge-Scalar Field system on a background spacetime which is close to $1+3$-dimensional Minkowski space and whose outward light cones converge to those for the Schwarzschild metric at null infinity. The key technique to this proof is the use of a modified null frame, depending only on the mass $M$ of the metric, which captures the asymptotic behavior of the metric at future null infinity. Our results are analogous to results obtained in Minkowski space by Lindblad and Sterbenz up to a change in coordinates, and will in the sequel be used to prove the full str…
The theory of boundary regularity for $p$-harmonic functions is extended to unbounded open sets in complete metric spaces with a doubling measure supporting a $p$-Poincaré inequality, $1<p<\infty$. The barrier classification of regular boundary points is established, and it is shown that regularity is a local property of the boundary. We also obtain boundary regularity results for solutions of the obstacle problem on open sets, and characterize regularity further in several other ways.
Following a result of Bennewitz-Lewis for non-doubling harmonic measure, we prove a criterion for non-doubling caloric measure to satisfy a weak reverse Holder inequality on an open set $Ω$, assuming as a background hypothesis only that the essential boundary of $Ω$ satisfies an appropriate parabolic version of Ahlfors-David regularity (which entails some backwards in time thickness). We also show that the weak reverse Holder estimate is equivalent to solvability of the initial Dirichlet problem with "lateral" data in $L^p$, for some $p<\infty$, in this setting.
In this paper, we study the expansions of Ricci flat metrics in harmonic coordinates about the infinity of ALE (asymptotically local Euclidean) manifolds.
For an infinite penny graph, we study the finite-dimensional property for the space of harmonic functions, or ancient solutions of the heat equation, of polynomial growth. We prove the asymptotically sharp dimensional estimate for the above spaces.
We study ($p$-harmonic) singular functions, defined by means of upper gradients, in bounded domains in metric measure spaces. It is shown that singular functions exist if and only if the complement of the domain has positive capacity, and that they satisfy very precise capacitary identities for superlevel sets. Suitably normalized singular functions are called Green functions. Uniqueness of Green functions is largely an open problem beyond unweighted $\mathbf{R}^n$, but we show that all Green functions (in a given domain and with the same singularity) are comparable. As a consequence, for $p$-…
In this paper, we will study harmonic functions on the complete and incomplete spaces with nonnegative Ricci curvature which exhibit inhomogeneous collapsing behaviors at infinity. The main result states that any nonconstant harmonic function on such spaces yields a definite exponential growth rate which depends explicitly on the geometric data at infinity.
In this paper boundary regularity for p-harmonic functions is studied with respect to the Mazurkiewicz boundary and other compactifications. In particular, the Kellogg property (which says that the set of irregular boundary points has capacity zero) is obtained for a large class of compactifications, but also two examples when it fails are given. This study is done for complete metric spaces equipped with doubling measures supporting a p-Poincaré inequality, but the results are new also in unweighted Euclidean spaces.
We study the initial value problem for the Einstein-Klein-Gordon system and establish the global nonlinear stability of massive matter in the near-Minkowski regime when the initial geometry is a perturbation of an asymptotically flat, spacelike hypersurface in Minkowski spacetime and the metric enjoys the harmonic decay 1/r (in term of a suitable distance function r at spatial infinity). Our analysis encompasses matter fields that have small energy norm and solely enjoys a slow decay at spacelike infinity. Our proof is based on the Euclidean-hyperboloidal foliation method recently introduced b…
We assume that $Ω_1, Ω_2 \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n \geq 1$ are two disjoint domains whose complements satisfy the capacity density condition and the intersection of their boundaries $F$ has positive harmonic measure. Then we show that in a fixed ball $B$ centered on $F$, if the harmonic measure of $Ω_1$ satisfies a scale invariant $A_\infty$-type condition with respect to the harmonic measure of $Ω_2$ in $B$, then there exists a uniformly $n$-rectifiable set $Σ$ so that the harmonic measure of $Σ\cap F$ contained in $B$ is bounded below by a fixed constant independent of $B$. A remarkable …
In this paper, we prove that associated with a sub-static asymptotically flat manifold endowed with a harmonic potential there is a one-parameter family $\{F_β\}$ of functions which are monotone along the level-set flow of the potential. Such monotonicity holds up to the optimal threshold $β=\frac{n-2}{n-1}$ and allows us to prove a geometric capacitary inequality where the capacity of the horizon plays the same role as the ADM mass in the celebrated Riemannian Penrose Inequality.
