This paper deals with locally constrained inverse curvature flows in a broad class of Riemannian warped spaces. For a certain class of such flows we prove long time existence and smooth convergence to a radial coordinate slice. In the case of two-dimensional surfaces and a suitable speed, these flows enjoy two monotone quantities. In such cases new Minkowski type inequalities are the consequence. In higher dimensions we use the inverse mean curvature flow to obtain new Minkowski inequalities when the ambient radial Ricci curvature is constantly negative.
We prove some isoperimetric type inequalities in warped product manifolds, or more generally, multiply warped product manifolds. We then relate them to inequalities involving the higher order mean-curvature integrals. We also apply our results to obtain sharp eigenvalue estimates and some sharp geometric inequalities in space forms.
It is well-known that the Einstein condition on warpedgeometries requires the fibres to be necessarily Einstein. However, exact warped solutions have often been obtained using one- and two-dimensional bases. In this paper, keeping the dimensions and signatures of the base and the fibre independently arbitrary, we obtain all Ricci-flat warped metrics with flat base in closed form and show that the number of free parameters is one less than the dimension of the base. Without any assumptions on the base and fibre geometry, we then show that a warped geometry is flat, i.e, has vanishing Riemann cu…
In this paper we present not only some properties related to bi-warped product submanifolds of locally conformal almost cosymplectic manifolds, but also we show how the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the bi-warped product's warping functions are related when the bi-warped product submanifold has a proper slant submanifold as a base or fiber.
In the present paper, we discuss the non-trivial warped product pseudo slant submanifolds of type $M_{\bot }\times _{f}M_{θ}$ and $M_θ\times _{f}M_{\bot }$ of nearly Kenmotsu $f$-manifold $\overline{M}$. Firstly, we get some basic properties of these type warped product submanifolds. Then, we establish the general sharp inequalities for squared norm of second fundamental form for mixed totally geodesic warped product pseudo slant submanifolds of both cases, in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. Also the equality cases are verified. We show that some previous results are trivial…
In this paper, we study warped product submanifolds of nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds. The non-existence of the warped product semi-slant submanifolds of the type $N_θ\times{_{f}N_T}$ is shown, whereas some characterization and new geometric obstructions are obtained for the warped products of the type $N_T\times{_{f}N_θ}$. We establish two general inequalities for the squared norm of the second fundamental form. The first inequality generalizes derived inequalities for some contact metric manifolds [16, 18, 19, 24], while by a new technique, the second inequality is constructed to express th…
In this paper we first prove some linear isoperimetric inequalities for submanifolds in the de Sitter-Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom manifolds. Moreover, the equality is attained. Next, we prove some monotonicity formulas for submanifolds with bounded mean curvature vector in warped product manifolds and, as consequences, we give lower bound estimates for the volume of these submanifolds in terms of the warping function. We conclude the paper with an isoperimetric inequality for minimal surfaces.
We establish two main inequalities; one for the norm of the second fundamental form and the other for the matrix of the shape operator. The results obtained are for cosymplectic manifolds and, for these, we show that the contact warped product submanifolds naturally possess a geometric property; namely $\mathcal{D}_1$-minimality which, by means of the Gauss equation, allows us to obtain an optimal general inequality. For sake of generalization, we state our hypotheses for nearly cosymplectic manifolds, then we obtain them as particular cases for cosymplectic manifolds. For the other part of th…
Recently, M. Atcken studied Contact CR-warped prod- uct submanifolds in cosymplectic space forms and established gen- eral sharp inequalities for CR-warped products in a cosymplectic manifold [1]. In the present paper, we obtain an inequality for the squared norm of the second fundamental form in terms of constant ?$ϕ$-sectional curvature for hemi-slant products in cosymplectic mani- folds. An inequality for hemi-slant warped products in a cosymplectc manifold is also given. The equality case is considered.
We observe some higher order Poincare-type inequalities on a closed manifold, which is inspired by Hurwitz's proof of the Wirtinger's inequality using Fourier theory. We then give some geometric implication of these inequalities by applying them on the sphere. More specifically, by applying them to the support function of a convex hypersurface in the Euclidean space, we obtain some sharp Minkowski-type inequalities, such as a stability inequality for the classical Minkowski inequality and the Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality.
In this paper we revisit the anisotropic isoperimetric and the Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for convex sets. The best known constant $C(n)=Cn^{7}$ depending on the space dimension $n$ in both inequalities is due to Segal [\ref{bib:Seg.}]. We improve that constant to $Cn^6$ for convex sets and to $Cn^5$ for centrally symmetric convex sets. We also conjecture, that the best constant in both inequalities must be of the form $Cn^2,$ i.e., quadratic in $n.$ The tools are the Brenier's mapping from the theory of mass transportation combined with new sharp geometric-arithmetic mean and some algebraic…
We prove that an approximated version of the Brunn--Minkowski inequality with volume distortion coefficient implies a Gaussian concentration-of-measure phenomenon. Our main theorem is applicable to discrete spaces.
Analogues of the classical inequalities from the Brunn-Minkowski theory for rotation intertwining additive maps of convex bodies are developed. Analogues are also proved of inequalities from the dual Brunn-Minkowski theory for intertwining additive maps of star bodies. These inequalities provide generalizations of results for projection and intersection bodies. As a corollary, a new Brunn-Minkowski inequality is obtained for the volume of polar projection bodies.
This paper develops basic setting for the dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for star bodies. An Orlicz $φ$-radial addition of two or more star bodies is proposed and related dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality is established. Based on a linear Orlicz $φ$-radial addition of two star bodies, we derive a formula for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual mixed volume. Moreover, a dual Orlicz-Minkowski inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual mixed volume, a dual Orlicz isoperimetric inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual surface area and a dual Orlicz-Urysohn inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-harmonic mean radius are…
We prove that no Brunn--Minkowski inequality from the Riemannian theories of curvature-dimension and optimal transportation can by satisfied by a strictly subRiemannian structure. Our proof relies on the same method as for the Heisenberg group together with new investigations by Agrachev, Barillari and Rizzi on ample normal geodesics of subRieman-nian structures and the geodesic dimension attached to them.
In this paper, we study the conjecture of Gardner and Zvavitch from \cite{GZ}, which suggests that the standard Gaussian measure $γ$ enjoys $\frac{1}{n}$-concavity with respect to the Minkowski addition of \textbf{symmetric} convex sets. We prove this fact up to a factor of 2: that is, we show that for symmetric convex $K$ and $L,$ $$ γ(λK+(1-λ)L)^{\frac{1}{2n}}\geq λγ(K)^{\frac{1}{2n}}+(1-λ)γ(L)^{\frac{1}{2n}}. $$ Further, we show that under suitable dimension-free uniform bounds on the Hessian of the potential, the log-concavity of even measures can be strengthened to $p$-concavity, with $p>…
In this paper, we prove an extended version of the Minkowski Inequality, holding for any smooth bounded set $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$, $n\geq 3$. Our proof relies on the discovery of effective monotonicity formulas holding along the level set flow of the $p$-capacitary potentials associated with $Ω$, for every $p$ sufficiently close to $1$. Besides constituting a neat improvement of those introduced in [Fog_Maz_Pin] to treat the case of convex domains, these formulas testify the existence of a link between the monotonicity formulas derived by Colding and Minicozzi for the level set flow of Green'…
In this paper we establish a general inequality involving the Laplacian of the warping functions and the squared mean curvature of any doubly warped product isometrically immersed in a Riemannian manifold. Moreover, we obtain some geometric inequalities for C-totally real doubly warped product submanifolds of generalized $(κ,μ)$-space forms.
In this paper we provide an extension to the Jellett-Minkowski's formula for immersed submanifolds into ambient manifolds which possesses a pole and radial curvatures bounded from above or below by the radial sectional curvatures of a rotationally symmetric model space. Using this Jellett-Minkowski's generalized formula we can focus on several isoperimetric problems. More precisely, on lower bounds for isoperimetric quotients of any precompact domain with smooth boundary, or on the isoperimetric profile of the submanifold and its modified volume. In the particular case of a model space with st…
New Orlicz Brunn-Minkowski inequalities are established for rigid motion compatible Minkowski valuations of arbitrary degree. These extend classical log-concavity properties of intrinsic volumes and generalize seminal results of Lutwak and others. Two different approaches which refine previously employed techniques are explored. It is shown that both lead to the same class of Minkowski valuations for which these inequalities hold. An appendix by Semyon Alesker contains the proof of a new classification of generalized translation invariant valuations.
We prove that a plane domain which is almost isoperimetric (with respect to the $L^1$ metric) is close to a square whose sides are parallel to the coordinates axis. Closeness is measured either by $L^\infty$ Haussdorf distance or Fraenkel asymmetry. In the first case, we determine the extremal domains.
We study several of the recent conjectures in regards to the role of symmetry in the inequalities of Brunn-Minkowski type, such as the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture of Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang, and the Dimensional Brunn-Minkowski conjecture of Gardner and Zvavitch, in a unified framework. We obtain several new results for these conjectures. We show that when $K\subset L,$ the multiplicative form of the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture holds for Lebesgue measure for $p\geq 1-Cn^{-0.75}$, which improves upon the estimate of Kolesnikov and Milman in the partial case when one body is co…
In this paper we prove two inequalities relating the warping function to various curvature terms, for warped products isometrically immersed in Riemannian manifolds. This extends work of B. Y. Chen for the case of immersions into space forms. Finally we give an application where the target manifold is the Clifford torus.
B.-Y. Chen initiated the study of warped product submanifolds in his fundamental seminal papers \cite{C1,C2,C2.1}. In this paper, we study contact CR-warped product submanifolds of cosymplectic space forms and prove an optimal inequality by using Gauss and Codazzi equations. In addition, we obtain two geometric inequalities for contact CR-warped product submanifolds with a compact invariant factor.
The classical Brunn-Minkowski theory studies the geometry of convex bodies in Euclidean space by use of the Minkowski sum. It originated from H. Brunn's thesis in 1887 and H. Minkowski's paper in 1903. Because there is no universally acknowledged definition of the sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, there has been no Brunn-Minkowski theory in hyperbolic space since 1903. In this paper, for any $p>0$ we introduce a sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, and we call it the hyperbolic $p$-sum. Then we develop a Brunn-Minkowski theory in the hyperbolic space by use of our hyperbolic $p$-sum, and we…
By applying an average method in PDE, we obtain a dichotomy between "constancy" and "infinity" of the warping functions on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds for an appropriate isometric immersion of a multiply warped product manifold $N_1\times_{f_2} N_2 \times \cdots \times _{f_k} N_k\, $ into a Riemannian manifold. Generalizing the earlier work of the authors in [{Glasg. Math. J. 51 (2009) 579-592], we establish sharp inequalities between the mean curvature of the immersion and the sectional curvatures of the ambient manifold under the influence of quantities of a purely analytic natu…
This paper introduces the dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for star sets. A radial Orlicz addition of two or more star sets is proposed and a corresponding dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality is established. Based on a radial Orlicz linear combination of two star sets, a formula for the dual Orlicz mixed volume is derived and a corresponding dual Orlicz-Minkowski inequality proved. The inequalities proved yield as special cases the precise duals of the conjectured log-Brunn-Minkowski and log-Minkowski inequalities of Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang. A new addition of star sets called ra…
We use the weighted Hsiung-Minkowski integral formulas and Brendle's inequality to show new rigidity results. First, we prove Alexandrov type results for closed embedded hypersurfaces with radially symmetric higher order mean curvature in a large class of Riemannian warped product manifolds, including the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström spaces, where the Alexandrov reflection principle is not available. Second, we prove that, in Euclidean space, the only closed immersed self-expanding solitons to the weighted generalized inverse curvature flow of codimension one are round hyperspheres.
We prove that for any semi-norm $\|\cdot\|$ on $\mathbb{R}^n,$ and any symmetric convex body $K$ in $\mathbb{R}^n,$ \begin{equation}\label{ineq-abs2} \int_{\partial K} \frac{\|n_x\|^2}{\langle x,n_x\rangle}\leq \frac{1}{|K|}\left(\int_{\partial K} \|n_x\| \right)^2, \end{equation} and characterize the equality cases of this new inequality. The above would also follow from the Log-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture, if the latter was proven, and we believe that it may be of independent interest. We, furthermore, obtain an improvement of this inequality in some cases, involving the Poincare constant of …
B. Y. Chen established sharp inequalities between certain Riemannian invariants and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds in real space form as well as in complex space form. In this paper we generalize Chen inequalities for submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifolds. Moreover, we consider CR-warped product submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifold and establish an inequality for scalar curvature.
In this paper, we prove a class of weighted isoperimetric inequalities for bounded domains in hyperbolic space by using the isoperimetric inequality with log-convex density in Euclidean space. As a consequence, we remove the horo-convex assumption of domains in a weighted isoperimetric inequality proved by Scheuer-Xia. Furthermore, we prove weighted isoperimetric inequalities for star-shaped domains in warped product manifolds. Particularly, we obtain a weighted isoperimetric inequality for star-shaped hypersurfaces lying outside a certain radial coordinate slice in the anti-de Sitter-Schwarzs…
In this paper, we first investigate several rigidity problems for hypersurfaces in the warped product manifolds with constant linear combinations of higher order mean curvatures as well as "weighted'' mean curvatures, which extend the work \cite{Mon, Brendle,BE} considering constant mean curvature functions. Secondly, we obtain the rigidity results for hypersurfaces in the space forms with constant linear combinations of intrinsic Gauss-Bonnet curvatures $L_k$. To achieve this, we develop some new kind of Newton-Maclaurin type inequalities on $L_k$ which may have independent interest.
We obtain a basic inequality involving the Laplacian of the warping function and the squared mean curvature of any warped product isometrically immersed in a Riemannian manifold without assuming any restriction on the Riemann curvature tensor of the ambient manifold. Applying this general theory, we obtain basic inequalities involving the Laplacian of the warping function and the squared mean curvature of $C$-totally real warped product submanifolds of $(κ,μ) $-space forms, Sasakian space forms and non-Sasakian $(κ,μ) $-manifolds. Then we obtain obstructions to the existence of minimal isometr…
Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang recently proved the log-Brunn-Minkowski inequality which is stronger than the classical Brunn-Minkowski inequality for two origin-symmetric convex bodies in the plane. This paper establishes the log-Brunn-Minkowski, log-Minkowski, $L_p$-Minkowski and $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for two convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^3$.
The hyperbolic space $ \H^d$ can be defined as a pseudo-sphere in the $(d+1)$ Minkowski space-time. In this paper, a Fuchsian group $Γ$ is a group of linear isometries of the Minkowski space such that $\H^d/Γ$ is a compact manifold. We introduce Fuchsian convex bodies, which are closed convex sets in Minkowski space, globally invariant for the action of a Fuchsian group. A volume can be associated to each Fuchsian convex body, and, if the group is fixed, Minkowski addition behaves well. Then Fuchsian convex bodies can be studied in the same manner as convex bodies of Euclidean space in the cla…
We study a Riemannian manifold equipped with a density which satisfies the Bakry--Émery Curvature-Dimension condition (combining a lower bound on its generalized Ricci curvature and an upper bound on its generalized dimension). We first obtain a Poincaré-type inequality on its boundary assuming that the latter is locally-convex; this generalizes a purely Euclidean inequality of Colesanti, originally derived as an infinitesimal form of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality, thereby precluding any extensions beyond the Euclidean setting. A dual version for generalized mean-convex boundaries is also obt…
The Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory receives considerable attention recently, and many results in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory have been extended to their Orlicz counterparts. The aim of this paper is to develop Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas for single convex body as well as for multiple convex bodies, which generalize the $L_p$ (mixed) affine and geominimal surface areas -- fundamental concepts in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory. Our extensions are different from the general affine surface areas by Ludwig (in Adv. Math. 224 (2010)). Moreover, our definitions for Orlicz $…
In this paper, we generalize the defining equation for de Sitter space by replacing the de Sitter radius with a function $f$ satisfying certain conditions; each resulting hypersurface is diffeomorphic to de Sitter space, and has a geometry (and causal character) which is controlled by the choice of $f$. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for a hypersurface to be timelike, null, or spacelike in the generalized model; in the non-null case, the geometry is given by a warped product. Several examples of timelike, null, and spacelike hypersurfaces are presented. Lastly, we calculate t…
General $(α, β)$ norms are an important class of Minkowski norms which contains the original $(α, β)$ norms. In this note, by studying the behavior of the Darboux curves of the indicatrix, we give a characterization of 3-dimensional general $(α, β)$ norms. By studying the isoperimetric properties of the indicatrix, as well as the isoperimetric inequalities in a Minkowski space, we give some global geometric quantities which characterizes Randers norms of arbitrary dimensions.
The CR $δ$-invariant for CR-submanifolds was introduced in a recent article [B. Y. Chen, An optimal inequality for CR-warped products in complex space forms involving CR $δ$-invariant, Internat. J. Math. 23} (2012), no. 3, 1250045 (17 pages)]. In this paper, we prove two new optimal inequalities for anti-holomorphic submanifolds in complex space forms involving the CR $δ$-invariant. Moreover, we obtain some classification results for certain anti-holomorphic submanifolds in complex space forms which satisfy the equality case of either inequality.
Lutwak, Yang and Zhang [23] introduced the concept of Lp dual curvature measure for convex bodies and star bodies, and studied the Minkowski problem. We in this paper establish a new unified concept, in briefly, the (p,q)-mixed quermassintegrals, via (p,q)-dual mixed curvature measure, and further have a deep discussion on Minkowski problem with respect to the (p,q)-dual mixed curvature measure. By the way, we derive at some important properties and geometric inequalities for (p,q)-mixed quermassintegrals.
