We study several of the recent conjectures in regards to the role of symmetry in the inequalities of Brunn-Minkowski type, such as the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture of Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang, and the Dimensional Brunn-Minkowski conjecture of Gardner and Zvavitch, in a unified framework. We obtain several new results for these conjectures.
We show that when $K\subset L,$ the multiplicative form of the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture holds for Lebesgue measure for $p\geq 1-Cn^{-0.75}$, which improves upon the estimate of Kolesnikov and Milman in the partial case when one body is contained in the other.
We also show that the multiplicative version of the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture for the standard Gaussian measure holds in the case of sets containing sufficiently large ball (whose radius depends on $p$). In particular, the Gaussian Log-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture holds when $K$ and $L$ contain $\sqrt{0.5 (n+1)}B_2^n.$
We formulate an a-priori stronger conjecture for log-concave measures, extending both the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture and the Dimensional one, and verify it in the case when the sets are dilates and the measure is Gaussian. We also show that the Log-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture, if verified, would yield this more general family of inequalities.
Our results build up on the methods developed by Kolesnikov and Milman as well as Colesanti, Livshyts, Marsiglietti. We furthermore verify that the local version of these conjectures implies the global version in the setting of general measures, and this step uses methods developed recently by Putterman.
The classical Brunn-Minkowski theory studies the geometry of convex bodies in Euclidean space by use of the Minkowski sum. It originated from H. Brunn's thesis in 1887 and H. Minkowski's paper in 1903. Because there is no universally acknowledged definition of the sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, there has been no Brunn-Minkowski theory in hyperbolic space since 1903. In this paper, for any $p>0$ we introduce a sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, and we call it the hyperbolic $p$-sum. Then we develop a Brunn-Minkowski theory in the hyperbolic space by use of our hyperbolic $p$-sum, and we…
Kolesnikov-Milman [9] established a local $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $p\in(1-c/n^{\frac{3}{2}},1).$ Based on their local uniqueness results for the $L_p$-Minkowski problem, we prove in this paper the (global) $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski inequality. Two uniqueness results are also obtained: the first one is for the $L_p$-Minkowski problem when $p\in (1-c/n^{\frac{3}{2}}, 1)$ for general measure with even positive $C^α$ density, and the second one is for the Logarithmic Minkowski problem when the density of measure is a small $C^α$ even perturbation of the uniform density.
We extend Prekopa's Theorem and the Brunn-Minkowski Theorem from convexity to $F$-subharmonicity. We apply this to the interpolation problem of convex functions and convex sets introducing a new notion of "harmonic interpolation" that we view as a generalization of Minkowski-addition.
By using Minkowski addition of convex functions, we prove convexity and rearrangement properties of solutions to some Hessian equations in $\R^3$ and Brunn-Minkowski and isoperimetric inequalities for related functionals.
We prove that that the 1-Riesz capacity satisfi es a Brunn-Minkowski inequality, and that the capacitary function of the 1/2-Laplacian is level set convex.
The general volume of a star body, a notion that includes the usual volume, the $q$th dual volumes, and many previous types of dual mixed volumes, is introduced. A corresponding new general dual Orlicz curvature measure is defined that specializes to the $(p,q)$-dual curvature measures introduced recently by Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang. General variational formulas are established for the general volume of two types of Orlicz linear combinations. One of these is applied to the Minkowski problem for the new general dual Orlicz curvature measure, giving in particular a solution to the Minkowski prob…
The Lp-Brunn-Minkowski inequality palys a central role in the Brunn-Minkowski theory proposed by Firey [13] in 60's and developed by Lutwak [26,27] in 90's, which generalizes the classical Brunn-Minkowski inequality by Lp-sum of convex bodies. The inequality has been established by Firey for p>1 and later been conjectured by Borozky-Lutwak-Yang-Zhang [5] for p\in[0,1). (see also [23,7]) The validity of this conjecture was verified for the planar case in [5], and for the higher dimensional case when p closing to 1 by Chen-Huang-Li-Liu [7]. (see alsoo a local version by Kolesnikov-Milman [23]) I…
In this paper we revisit the anisotropic isoperimetric and the Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for convex sets. The best known constant $C(n)=Cn^{7}$ depending on the space dimension $n$ in both inequalities is due to Segal [\ref{bib:Seg.}]. We improve that constant to $Cn^6$ for convex sets and to $Cn^5$ for centrally symmetric convex sets. We also conjecture, that the best constant in both inequalities must be of the form $Cn^2,$ i.e., quadratic in $n.$ The tools are the Brenier's mapping from the theory of mass transportation combined with new sharp geometric-arithmetic mean and some algebraic…
In this paper, we study the conjecture of Gardner and Zvavitch from \cite{GZ}, which suggests that the standard Gaussian measure $γ$ enjoys $\frac{1}{n}$-concavity with respect to the Minkowski addition of \textbf{symmetric} convex sets. We prove this fact up to a factor of 2: that is, we show that for symmetric convex $K$ and $L,$ $$ γ(λK+(1-λ)L)^{\frac{1}{2n}}\geq λγ(K)^{\frac{1}{2n}}+(1-λ)γ(L)^{\frac{1}{2n}}. $$ Further, we show that under suitable dimension-free uniform bounds on the Hessian of the potential, the log-concavity of even measures can be strengthened to $p$-concavity, with $p>…
Let $C$ be a pointed closed convex cone in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with vertex at the origin $o$ and having nonempty interior. The set $A\subset C$ is $C$-coconvex if the volume of $A$ is finite and $A^{\bullet}=C\setminus A$ is a closed convex set. For $0<p<1$, the $p$-co-sum of $C$-coconvex sets is introduced, and the corresponding $L_p$ Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $C$-coconvex sets is established. We also define the $L_p$ surface area measures, for $0\neq p\in \mathbb{R}$, of certain $C$-coconvex sets, which are critical in deriving a variational formula of the volume of the Wulff shape associate…
We prove that the principal eigenvalue of any fully nonlinear homogeneous elliptic operator which fulfills a very simple convexity assumption satisfies a Brunn-Minkowski type inequality on the class of open bounded sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying a uniform exterior sphere condition. In particular the result applies to the (possibly normalized) $p$-Laplacian, and to the minimal Pucci operator. The proof is inspired by the approach introduced by Colesanti for the principal frequency of the Laplacian within the class of convex domains, and relies on a generalization of the convex envelope metho…
We provide a sharp quantitative version of the Gaussian concentration inequality: for every $r>0$, the difference between the measure of the $r$-enlargement of a given set and the $r$-enlargement of a half-space controls the square of the measure of the symmetric difference between the set and a suitable half-space. We also prove a similar estimate in the Euclidean setting for the enlargement with a general convex set. This is equivalent to the stability of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the Minkowski sum between a convex set and a generic one.
The general dual volume $\dveV(K)$ and the general dual Orlicz curvature measure $\deV(K, \cdot)$ were recently introduced for functions $G: (0, \infty)\times \sphere\rightarrow (0, \infty)$ and convex bodies $K$ in $\R^n$ containing the origin in their interiors. We extend $\dveV(K)$ and $\deV(K, \cdot)$ to more general functions $G: [0, \infty)\times \sphere\rightarrow [0, \infty)$ and to compact convex sets $K$ containing the origin (but not necessarily in their interiors). Some basic properties of the general dual volume and of the dual Orlicz curvature measure, such as the continuous depe…

$L_p$-Christoffel-Minkowski problem arises naturally in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory. It connects both curvature measures and area measures of convex bodies and is a fundamental problem in convex geometric analysis. Since the lack of Firey's extension of Brunn-Minkowski inequality and constant rank theorem for $p<1$, the existence and uniqueness of $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski problem are difficult problems. In this paper, we prove a uniqueness theorem for solutions to $L_p$-Christoffel-Minkowski problem with $p<1$ and constant prescribed data. Our proof is motivated by the idea of Brendle-Choi-D…
In this article we study two classical potential-theoretic problems in convex geometry corresponding to a nonlinear capacity, $\mbox{Cap}_{\mathcal{A}}$, where $\mathcal{A}$-capacity is associated with a nonlinear elliptic PDE whose structure is modeled on the $p$-Laplace equation and whose solutions in an open set are called $ \mathcal{A}$-harmonic. In the first part of this article, we prove the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for this capacity: \[ \left[\mbox{Cap}_\mathcal{A}(λE_1 +(1-λ)E_2)\right]^{\frac{1}{(n-p)}}\geqλ\left[\mbox{Cap}_\mathcal{A}(E_1)\right]^{\frac{1}{(n-p)}}+(1-λ)\left[\mbox{…

In this paper, combining the $p$-capacity for $p\in (1, n)$ with the Orlicz addition of convex domains, we develop the $p$-capacitary Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory. In particular, the Orlicz $L_ϕ$ mixed $p$-capacity of two convex domains is introduced and its geometric interpretation is obtained by the $p$-capacitary Orlicz-Hadamard variational formula. The $p$-capacitary Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski and Orlicz-Minkowski inequalities are established, and the equivalence of these two inequalities are discussed as well. The $p$-capacitary Orlicz-Minkowski problem is proposed and solved under some mild…
In this article we study two classical problems in convex geometry associated to $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic PDEs, quasi-linear elliptic PDEs whose structure is modeled on the $p$-Laplace equation. Let $p$ be fixed with $2\leq n\leq p<\infty$. For a convex compact set $E$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, we define and then prove the existence and uniqueness of the so called $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic Green's function for the complement of $E$ with pole at infinity. We then define a quantity $\mbox{C}_{\mathcal{A}}(E)$ which can be seen as the behavior of this function near infinity. In the first part of this artic…
We interpret the log-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture of Böröczky-Lutwak-Yang-Zhang as a spectral problem in centro-affine differential geometry. In particular, we show that the Hilbert-Brunn-Minkowski operator coincides with the centro-affine Laplacian, thus obtaining a new avenue for tackling the conjecture using insights from affine differential geometry. As every strongly convex hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is a centro-affine unit-sphere, it has constant centro-affine Ricci curvature equal to $n-2$, in stark contrast to the standard weighted Ricci curvature of the associated metric-measure spa…
The aim of this paper is to develop a basic framework of the $L_p$ theory for the geometry of log-concave functions, which can be viewed as a functional "lifting" of the $L_p$ Brunn-Minkowski theory for convex bodies. To fulfill this goal, by combining the $L_p$ Asplund sum of log-concave functions for all $p>1$ and the total mass, we obtain a Prékopa-Leindler type inequality and propose a definition for the first variation of the total mass in the $L_p$ setting. Based on these, we further establish an $L_p$ Minkowski type inequality related to the first variation of the total mass and derive …
