Depending on a parameter $h\in (0,1]$, let $\{X_h(\mathbf{t})$, $\mathbf{t}\in\mathcal{M}_h\}$ be a class of centered Gaussian fields indexed by compact manifolds $\mathcal{M}_h$. For locally stationary Gaussian fields $X_h$, we study the asymptotic excursion probabilities of $X_h$ on $\mathcal{M}_h$. Two cases are considered: (i) $h$ is fixed and (ii) $h\rightarrow0$. These results are extended to obtain the limit behaviors of the extremes of locally stationary $χ$-fields on manifolds.
In this paper, we consider a two-dimensional sticky Brownian motion. Sticky Brownian motions can be viewed as time-changed semimartingale reflecting Brownian motions, which find applications in many areas including queueing theory and mathematical finance. For example, a sticky Brownian motion can be used to model a storage system.with exceptional services. In this paper, we focus on stationary distributions for sticky Brownian motions. The main results obtained here include tail asymptotic properties in boundary stationary distributions, marginal distributions, and joint distributions. The ke…
Let $\{Z(τ,s), (τ,s)\in [a,b]\times[0,T]\}$ with some positive constants $a,b,T$ be a centered Gaussian random field with variance function $σ^{2}(τ,s)$ satisfying $σ^{2}(τ,s)=σ^{2}(τ)$. We firstly derive the exact tail asymptotics for the maximum $M_{H}(T)=\max_{(τ,s)\in[a,b]\times[0,T]}Z(τ,s)/σ(τ)$ up crossing some level $u$ with any fixed $0<a<b<\infty$ and $T>0$; and we further derive the extreme limit law for $M_{H}(T)$. As applications of the main results, we derive the exact tail asymptotics and the extreme limit law for Shepp statistics with stationary Gaussian process, fractional Brow…
For $X_i(t), i=1,\ldots, n, t\in [0,T]$ centered Gaussian processes, the chi-square process $\sum_{i=1}^{n}X_i^2(t)$ appears naturally as limiting processes in various statistical models. In this paper, we are concerned with the exact tail asymptotics of the supremum taken over discrete grids of a class of locally stationary chi-square processes where $X_i(t),\ 1\leq i\leq n$ are not identical. An important tool for establishing our results is a generalisation of Pickands lemma under the discrete scenario. An application related to the change-point problem is discussed.
The seminal papers of Pickands [1,2] paved the way for a systematic study of high exceedance probabilities of both stationary and non-stationary Gaussian processes. Yet, in the vector-valued setting, due to the lack of key tools including Slepian's Lemma, Borell-TIS and Piterbarg inequalities there has not been any methodological development in the literature for the study of extremes of vector-valued Gaussian processes. In this contribution we develop the uniform double-sum method for the vector-valued setting obtaining the exact asymptotics of the exceedance probabilities for both stationary…
We investigate a family of multiple-stable processes that may exhibit either long-range or short-range dependence, depending on the parameters. There are two parameters for the processes, the memory parameter $β\in(0,1)$ and the multiplicity parameter $p\in\mathbb N$. We investigate the macroscopic limit of extremes of the process, in terms of convergence of random sup-measures, for the full range of parameters. Our results show that (i) the extremes of the process exhibit long-range dependence when $β_p := pβ-p+1\in(0,1)$, with a new family of random sup-measures arising in the limit, (ii) th…
In this paper, we consider the distribution of the supremum of non-stationary Gaussian processes, and present a new theoretical result on the asymptotic behaviour of this distribution. Unlike previously known facts in this field, our main theorem yields the asymptotic representation of the corresponding distribution function with exponentially decaying remainder term. This result can be efficiently used for studying the projection density estimates, based, for instance, on Legendre polynomials. More precisely, we construct the sequence of accompanying laws, which approximates the distribution …
Let $\{X(\mathbf{t}):\mathbf{t}=(t_1, t_2, \ldots, t_d)\in[0,\infty)^d\}$ be a centered stationary Gaussian field with almost surely continuous sample paths, unit variance and correlation function $r$ satisfying conditions $r(\mathbf{t})<1$ for every $\mathbf{t}\neq \mathbf{0}$ and $r(\mathbf{t})=1-\sum_{i=1}^d |t_i|^{α_i} + o(\sum_{i=1}^d |t_i|^{α_i})$, as $\mathbf{t}\to\mathbf{0}$, with constants $α_1, α_2, \ldots, α_d \in(0,2]$. The main result of this contribution is the description of the asymptotic behaviour of $P(\sup\{X(\mathbf{t}): \mathbf{t}\in\mathcal{J}^{\mathbf{x}}_{\mathbf{m}} \}…
The tail process $\boldsymbol{Y}=(Y_{\boldsymbol{i}})_{\boldsymbol{i}\in\mathbb{Z}^d}$ of a stationary regularly varying random field $\boldsymbol{X}=(X_{\boldsymbol{i}})_{\boldsymbol{i}\in\mathbb{Z}^d}$ represents the asymptotic local distribution of $\boldsymbol{X}$ as seen from its typical exceedance over a threshold $u$ as $u\to\infty$. Motivated by the standard Palm theory, we show that every tail process satisfies an invariance property called exceedance-stationarity and that this property, together with the polar decomposition of the tail process, characterizes the class of all tail pro…
Let $\boldsymbol{X}(t)=(X_1(t),\ldots,X_d(t)), t\in [0,S]$ be a Gaussian vector process and let $g(\boldsymbol{x}),\boldsymbol{x}\in\mathbb{R}^d$ be a continuous homogeneous function. In this paper we are concerned with the exact tail asymptotics of the chaos process $g(\boldsymbol{X}(t))+ h(t),t\in [0,S]$ with trend function $h$. Both scenarios $\boldsymbol{X}(t)$ is locally-stationary and $\boldsymbol{X}(t)$ is non-stationary are considered. Important examples include the product of Gaussian processes and chi-processes.
We study the extreme point process associated to the off-diagonal components in the matrix representation of the Gaussian $β$-Ensemble and prove its convergence to Poisson point process as $n\to +\infty$ when the inverse temperature $β$ scales with $n$ and tends to $0$. We consider two main high temperature regimes: $\displaystyle{β\ll \frac{1}{n}}$ and $\displaystyle{nβ= 2γ\geq 0}$. The normalizing sequences are explicitly given in each cases. As a consequence, we estimate the first order asymptotic of the largest eigenvalue of the Gaussian $β$-Ensemble.
We consider the clustering of extremes for stationary regularly varying random fields over arbitrary growing index sets. We study sufficient assumptions on the index set such that the limit of the point random fields of the exceedances above a high threshold exists. Under the so-called anti-clustering condition, the extremal dependence is only local. Thus the index set can have a general form compared to previous literature [3, 21]. However, we cannot describe the clustering of extreme values in terms of the usual spectral tail measure [23] except for hyperrectangles or index sets in the latti…
We consider a general multivariate affine stochastic recursion and the associated Markov chain on $\mathbb R^{d}$. We assume a natural geometric condition which implies existence of an unbounded stationary solution and we show that the large values of the associated stationary process follow extreme value properties of classical type, with a non trivial extremal index. We develop some explicit consequences such as convergence to Fr{é}chet's law or to an exponential law, as well as convergence to a stable law. The proof is based on a spectral gap property for the action of associated positive o…
We derive exact asymptotics of $$\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{\mathbf{t}\in {\mathcal{A}}}X(\mathbf{t})>u\right),~ \text{as}~ u\to\infty,$$ for a centered Gaussian field $X(\mathbf{t}),~ \mathbf{t}\in \mathcal{A}\subset\mathbb{R}^n$, $n>1$ with continuous sample paths a.s., for which $\arg \max_{\mathbf{t}\in {\mathcal{A}}} Var(X(\mathbf{t}))$ is a Jordan set with finite and positive Lebesque measure of dimension $k\leq n$ and its dependence structure is not necessarily locally stationary. Our findings are applied to deriving the asymptotics of tail probabilities related to performance tables and chi…
Let $\boldsymbol{X}(t)=(X_1(t),\ldots,X_d(t))$ be a Gaussian vector process and $g(t)$ be a continuous function. The asymptotics of distribution of $\left\|\boldsymbol{X}(t)\right\|_p$, the $L^p$ norm for Gaussian finite-dimensional vector, have been investigated in numerous literatures. In this contribution we are concerned with the exact tail asymptotics of $\left\|\boldsymbol{X}(t)\right\|^c_p,\ c>0, $ with trend $g(t)$ over $[0,T]$. Both scenarios that $\boldsymbol{X}(t)$ is locally stationary and non-stationary are considered. Important examples include $\sum_{i=1}^d \left|X_i(t)\right|+g…
For $\{X(t), t \in G_δ\}$ a centered Gaussian process with stationary increments and a.s. sample paths on a discrete grid $G_δ=\{0,δ,2δ, ...\}$, where $δ>0$, we investigate the stationary reflected process $$Q_{δ,X}(t) = \sup\limits_{s\in [t,\infty)\cap G_δ}\big( X(s)-X(t)-c(s-t)\big), \ t \in G_δ$$ with $c>0$. We derive the exact asymptotics of $$\mathbb P\{\sup\limits_{t\in [0,T]\cap G_δ} Q_{δ,X}(t)>u\} \quad \text{and} \quad \mathbb P\{\inf\limits_{t\in [0,T]\cap G_δ} Q_{δ,X}(t)>u\},$$ as $u\to\infty$, with $T>0$. It appears that $φ=\lim_{u\to\infty} \frac{σ^2(u)}{u}$ determines the asympto…
We consider a class of non-homogeneous, continuous, centered Gaussian random fields $\{X_h(t), t \in {\cal M}_h;\,0 < h \le 1\}$ where ${\cal M}_h$ denotes a rescaled smooth manifold, i.e. ${\cal M}_h = \frac{1}{h} {\cal M},$ and study the limit behavior of the extreme values of these Gaussian random fields when $h$ tends to zero, which means that the manifold is growing. Our main result can be thought of as a generalization of a classical result of Bickel and Rosenblatt (1973a), and also of results by Mikhaleva and Piterbarg (1997).
We investigate extreme value theory of a class of random sequences defined by the all-time suprema of aggregated self-similar Gaussian processes with trend. This study is motivated by its potential applications in various areas and its theoretical interestingness. We consider both stationary sequences and non-stationary sequences obtained by considering whether the trend functions are identical or not. We show that a sequence of suitably normalised $k$th order statistics converges in distribution to a limiting random variable which can be a negative log transformed Erlang distributed random va…
