We study the quantum mechanical many-body problem of $N \geq 1$ non-relativistic electrons with spin interacting with their self-generated classical electromagnetic field and $K \geq 0$ static nuclei. We model the dynamics of the electrons and their self-generated electromagnetic field using the so-called many-body Maxwell-Pauli equations. The main result of this thesis is to construct time global, finite-energy, weak solutions to the many-body Maxwell-Pauli equations under the assumption that the fine structure constant $α$ and the nuclear charges are not too large. The assumptions on the size of $α$ and the nuclear charges ensure that we have energetic stability for this system, i.e., the absolute ground state energy exists. The work in this thesis serves as an initial step towards understanding the connection between the energetic stability of matter in quantum mechanics and the well-posedness of the corresponding dynamical equations.
We study the quantum mechanical many-body problem of $N$ nonrelativistic electrons interacting with their self-generated classical electromagnetic field and $K$ static nuclei. The system of coupled equations governing the dynamics of the electrons and their self-generated electromagnetic field is referred to as the many-body Maxwell-Pauli equations. Here we construct time global, finite-energy, weak solutions to the many-body Maxwell-Pauli equations under the assumption that the fine structure constant $α$ and the atomic numbers are not too large. The particular assumptions on the size of $α$ …
We consider the spinless Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian which describes a quantum system of non-relativistic identical particles coupled to the quantized electromagnetic field. We study the time evolution in a mean-field limit where the number $N$ of charged particles gets large while the coupling to the radiation field is rescaled by $1/\sqrt{N}$. At time zero we assume that almost all charged particles are in the same one-body state (a Bose-Einstein condensate) and we assume also the photons to be close to a coherent state. We show that at later times and in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$ the cha…
We slightly extend prior results about the derivation of the Maxwell-Schrödinger equations from the bosonic Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian. More concretely, we show that the findings from [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 52(5), 4900-4936 (2020)] about the coherence of the quantized electromagnetic field also hold for soft photons with small energies. This is achieved with the help of an estimate from [arXiv:2202.05015] which proves that the domain of the number of photon operator is invariant during the time evolution generated by the Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian.
Using the Pauli-Villars regularization and arguments from convex analysis, we construct solutions to the classical time-independent Maxwell equations in Dirac's vacuum, in the presence of small external electromagnetic sources. The vacuum is not an empty space, but rather a quantum fluctuating medium which behaves as a nonlinear polarizable material. Its behavior is described by a Dirac equation involving infinitely many particles. The quantum corrections to the usual Maxwell equations are nonlinear and nonlocal. Even if photons are described by a purely classical electromagnetic field, the re…
Lie symmetries of the Schroedinger-Pauli equations for charged particles and quasirelativistic Schroedinger equations are classified. In particular a new superintegrable system with spin-orbit coupling is discovered.
Here we derive some results on so called quantitative Runge approximation in the case of the time-harmonic Maxwell equations. This provides a Runge approximation having more explicit quantitative information. We additionally derive some results on the conditional stability of the Cauchy problem for the time-harmonic Maxwell equations.
We introduce an analog of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the Maxwell equation in a bounded domain. We show that it can be approximated by a pseudodifferential operator on the boundary with a matrix-valued symbol and we compute the principal symbol. As a consequence, we obtain a parabolic region free of the transmission eigenvalues associated to the Maxwell equation.
With using the algebraic approach Lie symmetries of Schrödinger equations with matrix potentials are classified. Thirty three inequivalent equations of such type together with the related symmetry groups are specified, the admissible equivalence relations are clearly indicated. In particular the Boyer results concerning kinematical invariance groups for arbitrary potentials (C. P. Boyer, Helv. Phys. Acta, {\bf 47}, 450--605 (1974)) are clarified and corrected.
In this paper, we obtained the three-dimensional Pauli equation for a spin-1/2 particle in the presence of an electromagnetic field in noncommutative phase-space, as well the corresponding deformed continuity equation, where the cases of a constant and non-constant magnetic field are considered. Due to the absence of the current magnetization term in the deformed continuity equation as expected, we had to extract it from the noncommutative Pauli equation itself without modifying the continuity equation. It is shown that the non-constant magnetic field lifts the order of the noncommutativity pa…
We consider the rate of convergence of solutions of spatially inhomogenous Boltzmann equations, with hard sphere potentials, to some equilibriums, called Maxwellians. Maxwellians are spatially homogenous static Maxwell velocity distributions with different temperatures and mean velocities. We study solutions in weighted space $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{3}\times \mathbb{T}^3)$. We prove a conjecture of C. Villani: assume the solution is sufficiently localized and sufficiently smooth, then the solution, in $L^{1}$-space, converges to a Maxwellian, exponentially fast in time.

When the Maxwell equations are geometrized, the Maxwell Lagrangian is usually reduced to the Yang-Mills Lagrangian. In this case, the effective quadratic metric, usually corresponding to the Riemannian metric of our space, is considered. However, it is more reasonable to use Finsler approach to Maxwell's equations. In the paper the Finsler representation of the geometrized Maxwell equations is considered. The comparison with the Riemannian approach also is made.

The classification of exact solutions of Maxwell vacuum equations for the case when the electromagnetic fields and metrics of homogeneous spaces are invariant with respect to the motion group $G_3(IX)$ is done. All appropriate non-equivalent exact solutions of Maxwell vacuum equations are found.
This work aims to reproduce a quantum system composed of a charged spin - $1/2$ fermion interacting with a dyon with an opposite electrical charge (charge-dyon system), utilizing a position-dependent effective mass (PDM) background in the non-relativistic regime via the PDM free Pauli equation. To investigate whether there is a PDM quantum system with the same physics (analogous model) that a charge-dyon system (target system), we resort to the PDM free Pauli equation itself. We proceed with replacing the exact bi-spinor of the target system into this equation, obtaining an uncoupled system of…
The Hamiltonian structure of the gauge-free gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell equations is presented in terms of a Hamiltonian functional and a gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell bracket. The bracket is used to show that the gyrokinetic angular-momentum conservation law can also be expressed in Hamiltonian form. The Jacobi property of the gyrokinetic Vlasov-Maxwell bracket is also demonstrated explicitly.
