We introduce an algorithm to decide isomorphism between tensors. The algorithm uses the Lie algebra of derivations of a tensor to compress the space in which the search takes place to a so-called densor space. To make the method practicable we give a polynomial-time algorithm to solve a generalization of module isomorphism for a common class of Lie modules. As a consequence, we show that isomorphism testing is in polynomial time for tensors whose derivation algebras are classical Lie algebras and whose densor spaces are 1-dimensional. The method has been implemented in the Magma computer algebra system.
This paper deals with the problem of conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Unlike the methods used by Peterson and Kac, our approach is entirely cohomological and geometric. It is deeply rooted on the theory of reductive group schemes developed by Demazure and Grothendieck, and on the work of J. Tits on buildings.
Let F be a field of characteristic not 2 and assume all algebras are over F. We establish several conjugacy theorems for the special linear Lie algebra sl_2 over an F-algebra which is a UFD. We find the structure of the full automorphism group as well as conditions for when two such algebras are isomorphic. We also study the structure of their derivation algebras. Often we work with more general coordinates when this if feasible.
We establish the conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for generic Lie tori "of type A". This is the only conjugacy problem of Lie tori related to Extended Affine Lie Algebras that remained open.
The purpose of this paper is to consider when two maximal subalgebras of a finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebra $L$ are conjugate, and to investigate their intersection.
We extend conjugacy results from Lie algebras to their Leibniz algebra generalizations. The proofs in the Lie case depend on anti-commutativity. Thus it is necessary to find other paths in the Leibniz case. Some of these results involve Cartan subalgebras. Our results can be used to extend other results on Cartan subalgebras. We show an example here and others will be shown in future work.
In this paper we study the isomorphism problem for the universal enveloping algebras of nilpotent Lie algebras. We prove that if the characteristic of the underlying field is not~2 or~3, then the isomorphism type of a nilpotent Lie algebra of dimension at most~6 is determined by the isomorphism type of its universal enveloping algebra. Examples show that the restriction on the characteristic is necessary.
In this paper we study the isomorphism problem for centreless Lie tori that are fgc (finitely generated as modules over their centroid). These Lie tori play a important role in the theory of extended affine Lie algebras and of multiloop Lie algebras. We introduce four isomorphism invariants for fgc centreless Lie tori, and use them together with known structural results to investigate the classification problem for fgc centreless Lie tori up to isomorphism.
We establish the conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for extended affine Lie algebras whose centreless core is "of type A", i.e., matrices over a quantum torus Q whose trace lies in the commutator space of Q. This settles the last outstanding part of the conjugacy problem for Extended Affine Lie Algebras that remained open.
This paper is a contribution to the isomorphism problem for universal enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We focus on solvable Lie algebras of small dimensions over fields of arbitrary characteristic. We prove, over an arbitrary field, that the isomorphism type of a metabelian Lie algebra whose derived subalgebra has codimension one is determined by its universal enveloping algebra. As an application of the results in this paper, we solve the isomorphism problem for solvable Lie algebras of dimension four over fields of characteristic zero and also point out the problems th…
That finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras over the complex numbers can be classified by means of purely combinatorial and geometric objects such as Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams and indecomposable irreducible root systems, is arguably one of the most elegant results in mathematics. The definition of the root system is done by fixing a Cartan subalgebra of the given Lie algebra. The remarkable fact is that (up to isomorphism) this construction is independent of the choice of the Cartan subalgebra. The modern way of establishing this fact is by showing that all Cartan subalgebras are conjugate. For …
In this paper, we give algorithms for determining the existence of isomorphism between two finite-dimensional Lie algebras and compute such an isomorphism in the affirrmative case. We also provide algorithms for determining algebraic relations of parameters in order to decide whether two parameterized Lie algebras are isomorphic. All of the considered Lie algebras are considered over a field $\F$, where $\F=\C$ or $\F=\R$. Several illustrative examples are given to show the applicability and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
The conjugacy of split Cartan subalgebras in the finite dimensional simple case (Chevalley) and in the symmetrizable Kac-Moody case (Peterson-Kac) are fundamental results of the theory of Lie algebras. Among the Kac-Moody Lie algebras the affine algebras stand out. This paper deals with the problem of conjugacy for a class of algebras --extended affine Lie algebras-- that are in a precise sense higher nullity analogues of the affine algebras. Unlike the methods used by Peterson-Kac, our approach is entirely cohomological and geometric. It is deeply rooted on the theory of reductive group schem…
Since the introduction of the concept of isotopism of algebras by Albert in 1942, a prolific literature on the subject has been developed for distinct types of algebras. Nevertheless, there barely exists any result on the problem of distributing Lie algebras into isotopism classes. The current paper is a first step to deal with such a problem. Specifically, we define a new series of isotopism invariants and we determine explicitly the distribution into isotopism classes of $n$-dimensional filiform Lie algebras, for $n\leq 7$. We also deal with the distribution of such algebras into isomorphism…
In the present work the properties of Cartan subalgebras and their connection with regular elements in finite dimensional Lie algebras are extended to the case of Leibniz algebras. It is shown that Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of a Leibniz algebra correspond to Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of a Lie algebra by a natural homomorphism. Conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras of Leibniz algebras is shown.
The ideals of the Lie algebras of unitriangular polynomial derivations are classified. An isomorphism criterion is given for the Lie factor algebras of the Lie algebras of unitriangular polynomial derivations.
We study and classify the 3-dimensional Hom-Lie algebras over $\mathbb{C}$. We provide first a complete set of representatives for the isomorphism classes of skew-symmetric bilinear products defined on a 3-dimensional complex vector space $\mathfrak{g}$. The well known Lie brackets for the 3-dimensional Lie algebras are included into appropriate isomorphism classes of such products representatives. For each product representative, we provide a complete set of canonical forms for the linear maps $\mathfrak{g} \to \mathfrak{g}$ that turn $g$ into a Hom-Lie algebra, thus characterizing the corres…
In this study, we extend the result on classification of a subclass of filiform Leibniz algebras in low dimensions to dimensions seven and eight based on the technique used by Rakhimov and Bekbaev for classification of subclasses which arise from naturally graded non-Lie filiform Leibniz algebras. The subclass considered here arises from naturally graded filiform Lie algebras. This subclass contains the class of filiform Lie algebras and consequently, by classifying this subclass, we again re-examine the classification of filiform Lie algebras. Our resulting list of filifom Lie algebras is com…
Like the lower central series of a nilpotent group, filters generalize the connection between nilpotent groups and graded Lie rings. However, unlike the case with the lower central series, the associated graded Lie ring may share few features with the original group: e.g. the associated Lie ring may be trivial or arbitrarily large. We determine properties of filters such that the Lie ring and group are in bijection. We prove that, under such conditions, every isomorphism between groups is induced by an isomorphism between graded Lie rings.
We determine those k-tuples of conjugacy classes of matrices, from which it is possible to choose matrices which have no common invariant subspace and have sum zero. This is an additive version of the Deligne-Simpson problem. We deduce the result from earlier work of ours on preprojective algebras and the moment map for representations of quivers. Our answer depends on the root system for a Kac-Moody Lie algebra.
We reduce the isomorphism problem for undirected graphs without loops to the isomorphism problems for a class of finite dimensional $2$-step nilpotent Lie algebras over a field and for a class of finite $p$-groups. We show that the isomorphism problem for graphs is harder than the two latter isomorphism problems in the sense of Borel reducibility. A computable analogue of Borel reducibility was introduced by S. Coskey, J.D. Hamkins, and R. Miller. A relation of the isomorphism problem for undirected graphs to the well-known problem of classifying pairs of matrices over a field (up to similarit…
The paper aims to investigate the classification problem of low dimensional complex none Lie filiform Leibniz algebras. There are two sources to get classification of filiform Leibniz algebras. The first of them is the naturally graded none Lie filiform Leibniz algebras and the another one is the naturally graded filiform Lie algebras. Here we do consider Leibniz algebras appearing from the naturally graded none Lie filiform Leibniz algebras. This class can be splited into two subclasses. However, isomorphisms within each class there were not investigated. Before U.D.Bekbaev and I.S.Rakhimov s…
Let $L$ be a Lie algebra with its enveloping algebra $U(L)$ over a field. In this paper we survey results concerning the isomorphism problem for enveloping algebras: given another Lie algebra $H$ for which $U(L)$ and $U(H)$ are isomorphic as associative algebras, can we deduce that $L$ and $H$ are isomorphic Lie algebras? Over a field of positive characteristic we consider a similar problem for restricted Lie algebras, that is, given restricted Lie algebras $L$ and $H$ for which their restricted enveloping algebras are isomorphic as algebras, can we deduce that $L$ and $H$ are isomorphic?
Leibniz algebras are a non-anticommutative version of Lie algebras. They play an important role in different areas of mathematics and physics and have attracted much attention over the last thirty years. In this paper we investigate whether conditions such as being a Lie algebra, cyclic, simple, semisimple, solvable, supersolvable or nilpotent in such an algebra are preserved by lattice isomorphisms.
The paper concerns the classification problem of a subclass of complex filiform Leibniz algebras in dimensions 7 and 8. This subclass arises from naturally graded filiform Lie algebras. We give a complete list of isomorphism classes of algebras including Lie case. In parametric families cases, the corresponding orbit functions (invariants) are given. In discrete orbits case, we show representatives of the orbits.
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be a generalized matrix algebra over a commutative ring $\mathcal{R}$, ${\mathfrak q}\colon \mathcal{G}\times\mathcal{G}\longrightarrow \mathcal{G}$ be an $\mathcal{R}$-bilinear mapping and ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}\colon:\mathcal{G}\longrightarrow \mathcal{G}$ be a trace of $\mathfrak{q}$. We describe the form of ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ satisfying the condition ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}(G)G=G{\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}(G)$ for all $G\in \mathcal{G}$. The question of when ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ has the proper form is considered. Using the aforementioned tra…
Consider complex semisimple Lie algebras of a given dimension specified by their structure constants. We describe a finite collection of rational functions in the structure constants that form a complete set of invariants: two sets of structure constants determine isomorphic algebras if and only if each of these rational functions has the same value on the two sets. This collection is indexed by all chord diagrams with the number of chords being bounded by a function of the dimension.
We study the possible dimension vectors of indecomposable parabolic bundles on the projective line, and use our answer to solve the problem of characterizing those collections of conjugacy classes of n by n matrices for which one can find matrices in their closures whose product is equal to the identity matrix. Both answers depend on the root system of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra. Our proofs use Ringel's theory of tubular algebras, work of Mihai on the existence of logarithmic connections, the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence and an algebraic version, due to Dettweiler and Reiter, of Katz's middle c…
The closest infinite dimensional relatives of compact Lie algebras are Hilbert-Lie algebras, i.e. real Hilbert spaces with a Lie algebra structure for which the scalar product is invariant. Locally affine Lie algebras (LALAs) correspond to double extensions of (twisted) loop algebras over simple Hilbert-Lie algebras $\mathfrak{k}$, also called affinisations of $\mathfrak{k}$. They possess a root space decomposition whose corresponding root system is a locally affine root system of one of the $7$ families $A_J^{(1)}$, $B_J^{(1)}$, $C_J^{(1)}$, $D_J^{(1)}$, $B_J^{(2)}$, $C_J^{(2)}$ and $BC_J^{(2…
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be a generalized matrix algebra over a commutative ring $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{Z(G)}$ be the center of $\mathcal{G}$. Suppose that ${\mathfrak q}\colon \mathcal{G}\times \mathcal{G}\longrightarrow \mathcal{G}$ is an $\mathcal{R}$-bilinear mapping and ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}\colon \mathcal{G}\longrightarrow \mathcal{G}$ is the trace of $\mathfrak{q}$. We describe the form of ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ satisfying the condition $[{\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}(G), G]\in \mathcal{Z(G)}$ for all $G\in \mathcal{G}$. The question of when ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ has t…
In this paper we study a Lie-theoretic analogue of a generalisation of the prefrattini subgroups introduced by W. Gaschütz. The approach follows that of P. Hauck and H. Kurtzweil for groups, by first considering complements in subalgebra intervals. Conjugacy of these subalgebras is established for a large class of solvable lie algebras.
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>3$, and $\ggg$ the $p$-dimensional Witt algebra over $\mathbb{F}$. Let $\N$ be the nilpotent cone of $\ggg$. Explicit description of $\N$ is given, so that the conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras of $\ggg$ under the automorphism group are determined. In contrast with only one conjugacy class of Borel subalgebras in a classical simple Lie algebra, there are two conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras in $\ggg$. The representatives of conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras, i.e., the so-called standard Borel subalgebras, ar…
Let $\mathcal{T}$ be a triangular algebra over a commutative ring $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{Z(T)}$ be the center of $\mathcal{T}$. Suppose that ${\mathfrak q}\colon \mathcal{T}\times \mathcal{T}\longrightarrow \mathcal{T}$ is an $\mathcal{R}$-bilinear mapping and that ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}\colon: \mathcal{T}\longrightarrow \mathcal{T}$ is a trace of $\mathfrak{q}$. We describe the form of ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ satisfying the condition $[{\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}(T), T]\in \mathcal{Z(T)}$ for all $T\in \mathcal{T}$. The question of when ${\mathfrak T}_{\mathfrak q}$ has the p…
