In the present work the properties of Cartan subalgebras and their connection with regular elements in finite dimensional Lie algebras are extended to the case of Leibniz algebras. It is shown that Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of a Leibniz algebra correspond to Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of a Lie algebra by a natural homomorphism. Conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras of Leibniz algebras is shown.
The present paper is devoted to the investigation of properties of Cartan subalgebras and regular elements in Leibniz $n$-algebras. The relationship between Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of given Leibniz $n$-algebra and Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of the corresponding factor $n$-Lie algebra is established.
We extend conjugacy results from Lie algebras to their Leibniz algebra generalizations. The proofs in the Lie case depend on anti-commutativity. Thus it is necessary to find other paths in the Leibniz case. Some of these results involve Cartan subalgebras. Our results can be used to extend other results on Cartan subalgebras. We show an example here and others will be shown in future work.
In the present work we introduce notions such as $k$-solvability, $s$- and $K_1$-nilpotency and the corresponding radicals. We prove that these radicals are invariant under derivations of Leibniz $n$-algebras. The Frattini and Cartan subalgebras of Leibniz $n$-algebras are studied. In particular, we construct examples that show that a classical result on conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras of Lie algebras, which also holds in Leibniz algebras and Lie $n$-algebras, is not true for Leibniz $n$-algebras.
We establish the conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for generic Lie tori "of type A". This is the only conjugacy problem of Lie tori related to Extended Affine Lie Algebras that remained open.
We establish the conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for extended affine Lie algebras whose centreless core is "of type A", i.e., matrices over a quantum torus Q whose trace lies in the commutator space of Q. This settles the last outstanding part of the conjugacy problem for Extended Affine Lie Algebras that remained open.
That finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras over the complex numbers can be classified by means of purely combinatorial and geometric objects such as Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams and indecomposable irreducible root systems, is arguably one of the most elegant results in mathematics. The definition of the root system is done by fixing a Cartan subalgebra of the given Lie algebra. The remarkable fact is that (up to isomorphism) this construction is independent of the choice of the Cartan subalgebra. The modern way of establishing this fact is by showing that all Cartan subalgebras are conjugate. For …
The notion of pre-Leibniz algebras was recently introduced in the study of Rota-Baxter operators on Leibniz algebras. In this paper, we first construct a graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements are pre-Leibniz algebras. Using this characterization, we define the cohomology of a pre-Leibniz algebra with coefficients in a representation. This cohomology is shown to split the Loday-Pirashvili cohomology of Leibniz algebras. As applications of our cohomology, we study formal and finite order deformations of a pre-Leibniz algebra. Finally, we define homotopy pre-Leibniz algebras and classif…
Recently, relative Rota-Baxter (Lie/associative) algebras are extensively studied in the literature from cohomological points of view. In this paper, we consider relative Rota-Baxter Leibniz algebras (rRB Leibniz algebras) as the object of our study. We construct an $L_\infty$-algebra that characterizes rRB Leibniz algebras as its Maurer-Cartan elements. Then we define representations of an rRB Leibniz algebra and introduce cohomology with coefficients in a representation. As applications of cohomology, we study deformations and abelian extensions of rRB Leibniz algebras.
Engel subalgebras of finite-dimensional Leibniz algebras are shown to have similar properties to those of Lie algebras. Using these, it is shown that a left Leibniz algebra, all of whose maximal subalgebras are right ideals, is nilpotent. A primitive Leibniz algebra is shown to split over its minimal ideal and that all the complements to its minimal ideal are conjugate. A subalgebra is shown to be a Cartan subalgebra if and only if it is minimal Engel, provided that the field has sufficiently many elements. Cartan subalgebras are shown to have a property analogous to intravariance.
A Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 0 splits over its soluble radical and all complements are conjugate. I show that the splitting theorem extends to Leibniz algebras but that the conjugacy theorem does not.
This paper deals with the problem of conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Unlike the methods used by Peterson and Kac, our approach is entirely cohomological and geometric. It is deeply rooted on the theory of reductive group schemes developed by Demazure and Grothendieck, and on the work of J. Tits on buildings.
The paper studies the structure of restricted Leibniz algebras. More specifically speaking, we first give the equivalent definition of restricted Leibniz algebras, which is by far more tractable than that of a restricted Leibniz algebras in [6]. Second, we obtain some properties of $p$-mappings and restrictable Leibniz algebras, and discuss restricted Leibniz algebras with semisimple elements. Finally, Cartan decomposition and the uniqueness of decomposition for restricted Leibniz algebras are determined.
In this paper we study Cartan subalgebras in general and special linear algebras over a field of positive characteristic. We determined the conjugacy classes of Cartan subalgebras under the general linear groups, and count the explicit number of all Cartan subalgebras from its conjugacy when the base field is an arbitrary finite field.
In this paper, we construct a differential graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements are given by crossed homomorphisms on Leibniz algebras. This allows us to define cohomology for a crossed homomorphism. Finally, we study linear deformations, formal deformations and extendibility of finite order deformations of a crossed homomorphism in terms of the cohomology theory.
In this paper, we introduce relative Rota-Baxter systems on Leibniz algebras and give some characterizations and new constructions. Then we construct a graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements are relative Rota-Baxter systems. This allows us to define a cohomology theory associated with a relative Rota-Baxter system. Finally, we study formal deformations and extendibility of finite order deformations of a relative Rota-Baxter system in terms of the cohomology theory.
In this paper, first we classify non-abelian extensions of Leibniz algebras by the second non-abelian cohomology. Then, we construct Leibniz 2-algebras using derivations of Leibniz algebras, and show that under a condition on the center, a non-abelian extension of Leibniz algebras can be described by a Leibniz 2-algebra morphism. At last, we give a description of non-abelian extensions in terms of Maurer-Cartan elements in a differential graded Lie algebra.
An $\mathcal{O}$-operator has been used to extend a Leibniz algebra by its representation. In this paper, we investigate several structures related to $\mathcal{O}$-operators on Leibniz algebras and introduce (dual) $\mathcal{O}$N-structures on Leibniz algebras associated to their representations. It is proved that $\mathcal{O}$-operators and dual $\mathcal{O}$N-structures generate each other under certain conditions. It is also shown that a solution of the strong Maurer-Cartan equation on the twilled Leibniz algebra gives rise to a dual $\mathcal{O}$N-structure. Finally, $r-n$ structures, RBN…
In this paper, first we introduce the notion of a Leibniz bialgebra and show that matched pairs of Leibniz algebras, Manin triples of Leibniz algebras and Leibniz bialgebras are equivalent. Then we introduce the notion of a (relative) Rota-Baxter operator on a Leibniz algebra and construct the graded Lie algebra that characterizes relative Rota-Baxter operators as Maurer-Cartan elements. By these structures and the twisting theory of twilled Leibniz algebras, we further define the classical Leibniz Yang-Baxter equation, classical Leibniz r-matrices and triangular Leibniz bialgebras. Finally, w…
In this paper, we study non-abelian extensions of 3-Lie algebras through Maurer-Cartan elements. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between isomorphism classes of non-abelian extensions of 3-Lie algebras and equivalence classes of Maurer-Cartan elements in a DGLA. The structure of the Leibniz algebra on the space of fundamental objects is also analyzed.
This article gives a local answer to the coquecigrue problem. Hereby we mean the problem, formulated by J-L. Loday in \cite{LodayEns}, is that of finding a generalization of the Lie's third theorem for Leibniz algebra. That is, we search a manifold provided with an algebraic structure which generalizes the structure of a (local) Lie group, and such that the tangent space at a distinguished point is a Leibniz algebra structure. Moreover, when the Leibniz algebra is a Lie algebra, we want that the integrating manifold is a Lie group. In his article \cite{Kinyon}, M.K. Kinyon solves the particula…
In this review article, first we give the concrete formulas of representations and cohomologies of associative algebras, Lie algebras, pre-Lie algebras, Leibniz algebras and 3-Lie algebras and some of their strong homotopy analogues. Then we recall the graded Lie algebras and graded associative algebras that characterize these algebraic structures as Maurer-Cartan elements. The corresponding Maurer-Cartan element equips the graded Lie or associative algebra with a differential. Then the deformations of the given algebraic structures are characterized as the Maurer-Cartan elements of the result…
The conjugacy of split Cartan subalgebras in the finite dimensional simple case (Chevalley) and in the symmetrizable Kac-Moody case (Peterson-Kac) are fundamental results of the theory of Lie algebras. Among the Kac-Moody Lie algebras the affine algebras stand out. This paper deals with the problem of conjugacy for a class of algebras --extended affine Lie algebras-- that are in a precise sense higher nullity analogues of the affine algebras. Unlike the methods used by Peterson-Kac, our approach is entirely cohomological and geometric. It is deeply rooted on the theory of reductive group schem…
In this paper, first we introduce the notion of a nonabelian embedding tensor, which is a nonabelian generalization of an embedding tensor. Then we introduce the notion of a Leibniz-Lie algebra, which is the underlying algebraic structure of a nonabelian embedding tensor, and can also be viewed as a nonabelian generalization of a Leibniz algebra. Next using the derived bracket, we construct a differential graded Lie algebra, whose Maurer-Cartan elements are exactly nonabelian embedding tensors. Consequently, we obtain the differential graded Lie algebra that governs deformations of a nonabelia…
We define and classify the analogues of the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras for the ring corresponding to the complex projective line minus three points. The classification is given in terms of Grothendieck's dessins d'enfants. We also study the question of conjugacy of Cartan subalgebras for these algebras.
