The observations and simulations have revealed that large-scale magnetic field and outflows can exist in the inner regions of an advection-dominated accretion disc where the resistive diffusion may also be important. In the present paper, the roles of large-scale magnetic field and outflows in the structure of resistive advection-dominated accretion discs are explored by assuming that the accretion flow is radially self-similar. In the non-ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) approximation, the results show that the angular velocity is always sub-Keplerian when both the outflow and the large-scale magnetic field are taken into account. A stronger toroidal field component leads to faster rotation, while the disc rotates with faster rate if the vertical field component is weaker. The increase of magnetic diffusivity causes the infall velocity to be close to Keplerian velocity. Although the previous studies in the ideal MHD approximation have shown that the disc temperature decreases due to the vertical field component, we find that the effect of vertical field component on the temperature of a resistive disc depends on the magnetic diffusivity. When the magnetic diffusivity is high, the more efficient mechanism for decreasing the disc temperature can be the outflows, and not the large-scale magnetic field. In such a limit of the magnetic diffusivity, the components of the large-scale magnetic field enhance the gas temperature. The increase of temperature can lead to heating and acceleration of the electrons and help us to explain the origin of phenomena such as the flares in Sgr A*. On the other hand, the infall velocity in such a limit rises as the temperature increases, and therefore the surface density falls to too low values. Any change in the density profile can alter the structure and the emitted spectrum of disc.
Observations of the hot gas, which is surrounding Sgr A* and a few other nearby galactic nuclei, imply that mean free paths of electron and proton are comparable to gas capture radius. So, hot accretion flows likely proceed under week collision conditions. As a result thermal conduction by ions has a considerable contribution in transfer of the realized heat in accretion mechanisms. We study a 2D advective accretion disk bathed in a poloidal magnetic field of a central accretor in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscose-…
We have studied the effects of thermal conduction on the structure of viscous and resistive advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs). The importance of thermal conduction on hot accretion flow is confirmed by observations of hot gas that surrounds Sgr A$^*$ and a few other nearby galactic nuclei. In this research, thermal conduction is studied by a saturated form of it, as is appropriated for weakly-collisional systems. It is assumed the viscosity and the magnetic diffusivity are due to turbulence and dissipation in the flow. The viscosity also is due to angular momentum transport. Here, th…
We suggest a model of the advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) with magnetically driven outflows to explain hysteretic state transition observed in X-ray binaries (XRBs). The transition from a thin disk to an ADAF occurs when the mass accretion rate is below a critical value. The critical mass accretion rate for the ADAF can be estimated by equating the equilibration timescale to accretion timescale of the ADAF, which is sensitive to its radial velocity. The radial velocity of thin disks is very small, which leads to the advection of the external field in thin disks very inefficient. ADAF…
We study the global dynamics of advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) with magnetically driven outflows. A fraction of gases in the accretion flow is accelerated into the outflows, which leads to decreasing of the mass accretion rate in the accretion flow towards the black hole. We find that the r-dependent mass accretion rate is close to a power-law one, m_dot r^s, as assumed in the advection-dominated inflow-outflow solution (ADIOS), in the outer region of the ADAF, while it deviates significantly from the power-law r-dependent accretion rate in the inner region of the ADAF. It is foun…
The broad-line region (BLR) disappears in many low-luminosity AGNs, the reason of which is still controversial. The BLRs in AGNs are believed to be associated with the outflows from the accretion disks. Most of the low-luminosity AGNs (LLAGNs) contain advection dominated accretion flows (ADAFs), which are very hot and have a positive Bernoulli parameter. ADAFs are therefore associated with strong outflows. We estimate the cooling of the outflows from the ADAFs, and find that the gases in such hot outflows always cannot be cooled efficiently by bremsstrahlung radiation. The ADAF may co-exist wi…
In this paper, the self-similar solution of resistive advection dominated accretion flows (ADAF) in the presence of a pure azimuthal magnetic field is investigated. The mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the viscosity and the magnetic diffusivity due to turbulence in the accretion flow. It is assumed that the magnetic diffusivity and the kinematic viscosity are not constant and vary by position and $α$-prescription is used for them. In order to solve the integrated equations that govern the behavior of the accretion flow, a self-similar method is used. The solutions show that the…
We construct self-similar inflow-outflow solutions for a hot viscous-resistive accretion flow with large scale magnetic fields that have odd symmetry with respect to the equatorial plane in $B_θ$, and even symmetry in $B_r$ and $B_ϕ$. Following previous authors, we also assume that the polar velocity $v_θ$ is nonzero. We focus on four parameters: $β_{r0}$, $β_{\phi0}$ (the plasma beta parameters for associated with magnetic field components at the equatorial plane), the magnetic resistivity $η_0$, and the density index $n=-d\lnρ/d\ln r$. The resulting flow solutions are divided into two parts …
The hard to soft state transition of the outbursts in X-ray binaries (XRBs) is triggered by the rising of the mass accretion rate due to the disk instability. In order to explain the observed correlation between the hard X-ray transition luminosity and the soft X-ray peak luminosity in the soft state, we construct a magnetic disk-outflow model for the state transition in XRBs. We assume that the large-scale magnetic field in the outer thin disk is formed through inverse cascade of small-scale dynamo generated field, and it is then advected by the inner advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF)…
Observational evidence and theoretical arguments postulate that outflows may play a significant role in the advection-dominated accretion discs (ADAFs). While the azimuthal viscosity is the main focus of most previous studies in this context, recent studies indicated that disc structure can also be affected by the radial viscosity. In this work, we incorporate these physical ingredients and the toroidal component of the magnetic field to explore their roles in the steady-state structure of ADAFs. We thereby present a set of similarity solutions where outflows contribute to the mass loss, angul…
We have studied the structure of hot accretion flow bathed in a general large-scale magnetic field. We have considered magnetic parameters $ β_{r,φ,z}[=c^2_{r,φ,z}/(2c^2_{s})] $, where $ c^2_{r, φ, z} $ are the Alfvén sound speeds in three direction of cylindrical coordinate $ (r,φ,z) $. The dominant mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the magnetic diffusivity due to turbulence and viscosity in the accretion flow. Also, we adopt a more realistic model for kinematic viscosity $ (ν=αc_{s} H) $, with both $ c_{s} $ and $ H $ as a function of magnetic field. As a result in our model, …
We solved analytically viscous two-dimensional (2D) fluid equations for accretion and outflows in spherical polar coordinates ($r, θ, ϕ$) and obtained explicitly flow variables in $r-$ and $θ-$directions around black holes (BHs). We investigated global transonic advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) solutions in $r-$direction on an equatorial plane with using Paczyński-Wiita potential. We used radial flow variables of ADAFs with symmetric conditions on the equatorial plane, as initial values for integration in $θ-$direction. In the study of 2D disk structure, we used two-azimuthal componen…
We explore thermal X-ray iron line emission from the galactic X-ray binary GX 339-4 in the off state, using the models of the advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) without or with outflows. The equivalent widths of hydrogen-like and helium-like thermal iron lines are calculated with different model parameters including viscosity parameter $α$, mass accretion rate at the outer radius of the ADAF $\dot{m}_{\rm out}$ and outflow strength parameter $p$. Our calculations show that the equivalent widths of thermal iron lines emitted from the pure ADAF, i.e., the ADAF without outflows, should be …
We propose a simplified model of outflow/jet driven by the Blandford-Payne (BP) process from advection dominated accretion flows (ADAF) and derive the expressions of the BP power and disk luminosity based on the conservation laws of mass, angular momentum and energy. We fit the 2--10 keV luminosity and kinetic power of 15 active galactic nucleus (AGNs) of sub-Eddington luminosity. It is found that there exists an anti-correlation between the accretion rate and the advection parameter, which could be used to explain the correlation between Eddington-scaled kinetic power and bolometric luminosit…
The existence of outflow in accretion flows is confirmed by observations and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations. In this paper, we study outflows of accretion flows in the presence of resistivity and toroidal magnetic field. The mechanism of energy dissipation in the flow is assumed to be the viscosity and the magnetic diffusivity due to turbulence in the accretion flow. It is also assumed that the magnetic diffusivity and the kinematic viscosity are not constant and vary by position and $α$-prescription is used for them. The influence of outflow emanating from accretion disc is considered…
The correlated and coupled dynamics of accretion and outflow around black holes (BHs) are essentially governed by the fundamental laws of conservation as outflow extracts matter, momentum and energy from the accretion region. Here we analyzed a robust form of 2.5-dimensional viscous, resistive, advective magnetized accretion-outflow coupling in BH systems, in the mean field magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) regime. We solve the complete set of coupled MHD conservation equations self-consistently, through invoking a generalized polynomial expansion in two dimensions. We perform a critical analysis of…
We perform GR-MHD simulations of outflow launching from thin accretion disks. As in the non-relativistic case, resistivity is essential for the mass loading of the disk wind. We implemented resistivity in the ideal GR-MHD code HARM3D, extending previous works (Qian et al. 2017, 2018) for larger physical grids, higher spatial resolution, and longer simulation time. We consider an initially thin, resistive disk orbiting the black hole, threaded by a large-scale magnetic flux. As the system evolves, outflows are launched from the black hole magnetosphere and the disk surface. We mainly focus on d…
We have explored the structure of hot flow bathed in a general large-scale magnetic field. The importance of outflow and thermal conduction on the self-similar structure of a hot accretion flows has been investigated. We consider the additional magnetic parameters $ β_{r,φ,z}\big[= c^2_{r,φ,z}/(2 c^2_{s}) \big] $, where $ c^2_{r,φ,z} $ are the Alfv$\acute{e}$n sound speeds in three direction of cylindrical coordinate. In comparison to the accretion disk without winds, our results show that the radial and rotational velocities of the disk become faster however it become cooler because of the an…
We examine the effects of a global magnetic field and outflow on radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) in the presence of magnetic resistivity. We find a self-similar solutions for the height integrated equations that govern the behavior of the flow. We use the mixing length mechanism for studying the convection parameter. We adopt a radius dependent mass accretion rate as $\dot{M}=\dot{M}_{out}{(\frac{r}{r_{out}})^{s}}$ with $s> 0$ to investigate the influence of outflow on the structure of inflow where $s$ is a constant and indication the effect of wind. Also, we have studied the rad…
We investigated effects on flow variables of transonic advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) for different outer boundary locations (BLs) with a changing energy constant ($E$) of the flow. We used the ADAF solutions and investigated a general power index rule of a radial bulk velocity $(\vr\propto r^{-p})$ with different BLs, but the power index with radius for a rotation velocity and sound speed is unchanged. Here, $p\geq0.5$ is a power index. This power rule gives two types of self-similar solutions; first, when $p=0.5$ gives a self-similar solution of a first kind and exists for infin…
We develop and discuss global accretion solutions for viscous ADAF disks containing centrifugally supported isothermal shock waves. The fact that such shocks can exist at all in ADAF disks is a new result. Interestingly, we find that isothermal shocks can form even when the level of viscous dissipation is relatively high. In order to better understand this phenomenon, we explore all possible combinations of the fundamental flow parameters, such as specific energy, specific angular momentum, and viscosity, to obtain the complete family of global solutions. This procedure allows us to identify t…
In order to study the outflows from accretion disks, we solve the set of hydrodynamic equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates ($rθϕ$) to obtain the explicit structure along the $θ$ direction. Using self-similar assumptions in the radial direction, we change the equations to a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) about the $θ$-coordinate, which are then solved with symmetrical boundary conditions in the equatorial plane, and the velocity field is obtained. The $α$ viscosity prescription is applied and an advective factor $f$ is used to simplify the energy equation.Th…
We have studied the dynamics of an equal-mass magnetized neutron-star binary within a resistive magnetohydrodynamic (RMHD) approach in which the highly conducting stellar interior is matched to an electrovacuum exterior. Because our analysis is aimed at assessing the modifications introduced by resistive effects on the dynamics of the binary after the merger and through to collapse, we have carried out a close comparison with an equivalent simulation performed within the traditional ideal magnetohydrodynamic approximation. We have found that there are many similarities between the two evolutio…
We investigate the launching of jets and outflows from magnetically diffusive accretion disks. Using the PLUTO code we solve the time-dependent resistive MHD equations taking into account the disk and jet evolution simultaneously. The main question we address is which kind of disks do launch jets and which kind of disks do not? In particular, we study how the magnitude and distribution of the (turbulent) magnetic diffusivity affect mass loading and jet acceleration. We have applied a turbulent magnetic diffusivity based on α-prescription, but have also investigate examples where the scale heig…
The main aim of this paper is studying the effect of toroidal magnetic field on the structure of Advection-Dominated Accretion Flows (ADAF) in the presence of the turbulence viscosity and diffusivity due to viscosity and magnetic field respectively. We use self-similar assumption in radial direction to solve the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations for hot accretion disk. We use spherical coordinate $ (r, θ, φ) $ to solve our equation. The toroidal component of magnetic field is considered and all three components of the velocity field $ \mathbf{v}\equiv (v_{r}, v_θ, v_φ) $ are present in our w…
Using resistive magnetohydrodynamics simulations, the propagation of protostellar jets, the formation of circumstellar discs and the configuration of magnetic fields are investigated from the prestellar cloud phase until $\sim$500 yr after protostar formation. As the initial state, we prepare magnetized rotating clouds, in which the rotation axis is misaligned with the global magnetic field by an angle $θ_0$. We calculate the cloud evolution for nine models with different $θ_0 (=$ 0, 5, 10, 30, 45, 60, 80, 85, 90$^\circ$). Our simulations show that there is no significant difference in the phy…
We investigate the launching mechanism of relativistic jets from black hole sources, in particular the strong winds from the surrounding accretion disk. Numerical investigations of the disk wind launching - the simulation of the accretion-ejection transition - have so far almost only been done for non-relativistic systems. From these simulations we know that resistivity, or magnetic diffusivity, plays an important role for the launching process. Here, we extend this treatment to general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (GR-MHD) applying the resistive GR-MHD code rHARM. Our model setup conside…
Relativistic charged particles (CR for cosmic-rays) produced by Supernova explosion of the first generation of massive stars that are responsible for the re-ionization of the universe escape into the intergalactic medium, carrying an electric current. Charge imbalance and induction give rise to a return current, $\vec j_t$, carried by the cold thermal plasma which tends to cancel the CR current. The electric field, $\vec E=η\vec j_t$, required to draw the collisional return current opposes the outflow of low energy cosmic rays and ohmically heats the cold plasma. Owing to inhomogeneities in th…
Relativistic Sweet-Parker type magnetic reconnection is investigated by relativistic resistive magnetohydrodynamic (RRMHD) simulations. As an initial setting, we assume anti-parallel magnetic fields and a spatially uniform resistivity. A perturbation imposed on the magnetic fields triggers magnetic reconnection around a current sheet, and the plasma inflows into the reconnection region. The inflows are then heated due to ohmic dissipation in the diffusion region, and finally become relativistically hot outflows. The outflows are not accelerated to ultra-relativistic speeds (i.e., Lorentz facto…

We present simulations of thin accretion disks around black holes investigating a mean-field disk dynamo in our resistive GRMHD code (Vourellis et al. 2019) that is able to produce a large scale magnetic flux. We consider a weak seed field in an initially thin disk, a background (turbulent) magnetic diffusivity and the dynamo action. A standard quenching mechanism is applied to mitigate the otherwise exponential increase of the magnetic field. Comparison simulations of an initial Fishbone-Moncrief torus suggest that reconnection may provide another quenching mechanism. The dynamo-generated mag…
This paper explores the effects of large-scale magnetic fields in hot accretion flows for asymmetric configurations with respect to the equatorial plane. The solutions that we have found show that the large-scale asymmetric magnetic field can significantly affect the dynamics of the flow and also cause notable outflows in the outer parts. Previously, we treated a viscous resistive accreting disc in the presence of an odd symmetric $\textbf{B-}$ field about the equatorial plane. Now we extend our earlier work by taking into account another configuration of large-scale magnetic field which is no…
