Observational evidence and theoretical arguments postulate that outflows may play a significant role in the advection-dominated accretion discs (ADAFs). While the azimuthal viscosity is the main focus of most previous studies in this context, recent studies indicated that disc structure can also be affected by the radial viscosity. In this work, we incorporate these physical ingredients and the toroidal component of the magnetic field to explore their roles in the steady-state structure of ADAFs. We thereby present a set of similarity solutions where outflows contribute to the mass loss, angular momentum removal, and the energy extraction. Our solutions indicate that the radial viscosity causes the disc to rotate with a slower rate, whereas the radial gas velocity increases. For strong winds, the infall velocity may be of order the Keplerian speed if the radial viscosity is considered and the saturated conduction parameter is high enough. We show that the strength of magnetic field and of wind can affect the effectiveness of radial viscosity.
Observations and numerical simulations have shown that outflows generally exist in the accretion process. We revisit the thermal equilibrium solutions of black hole accretion flows by including the role of outflows. Our study focuses on the comparison of the cooling rate of outflows with that of advection. Our results show that, except for the inner region, outflows can dominate over advection in a wide range of the flow, which is in good agreement with previous numerical simulations. We argue that an advection-dominated inner region together with an outflow-dominated outer region should be a …
Advection is believed to be the dominant cooling mechanism in optically thin advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAF's). When outflow is considered, however, the first impression is that advection should be of opposite sign in the inflow and the outflow, due to the opposite direction of radial motion. Then how is the energy balance achieved simultaneously? We investigate the problem in this paper, analysing the profiles of different components of advection with self-similar solutions of ADAF's in spherical coordinates ($rθϕ$). We find that for $n < 3γ/2-1$, where $n$ is the density index in …
We study the global dynamics of advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) with magnetically driven outflows. A fraction of gases in the accretion flow is accelerated into the outflows, which leads to decreasing of the mass accretion rate in the accretion flow towards the black hole. We find that the r-dependent mass accretion rate is close to a power-law one, m_dot r^s, as assumed in the advection-dominated inflow-outflow solution (ADIOS), in the outer region of the ADAF, while it deviates significantly from the power-law r-dependent accretion rate in the inner region of the ADAF. It is foun…
Collapsar disks have been proposed to be rich factories of heavy elements, but the major question of whether their outflows are neutron-rich, and could therefore represent significant sites of the rapid neutron-capture (r-) process, or dominated by iron-group elements remains unresolved. We present the first global models of collapsars that start from a stellar progenitor and self-consistently describe the evolution of the disk, its composition, and its outflows in response to the imploding stellar mantle, using energy-dependent M1 neutrino transport and an alpha-viscosity to approximate turbu…
We present results from two long-duration GRMHD simulations of advection-dominated accretion around a non-spinning black hole. The first simulation was designed to avoid significant accumulation of magnetic flux around the black hole. This simulation was run for a time of 200,000GM/c^3 and achieved inflow equilibrium out to a radius \sim90GM/c^2. Even at this relatively large radius, the mass outflow rate \dot{M}_{out} is found to be only 60% of the net mass inflow rate \dot{M}_{BH} into the black hole. The second simulation was designed to achieve substantial magnetic flux accumulation around…
We present a model for a super-Eddington accretion disc around a magnetized neutron star taking into account advection of heat and the mass loss by the wind. The model is semi-analytical and predicts radial profiles of all basic physical characteristics of the accretion disc. The magnetospheric radius is found as an eigenvalue of the problem. When the inner disc is in radiation-pressure-dominated regime but does not reach its local Eddington limit, advection is mild, and the radius of the magnetosphere depends weakly on the accretion rate. Once approaching the local Eddington limit, the disc b…
The broad-line region (BLR) disappears in many low-luminosity AGNs, the reason of which is still controversial. The BLRs in AGNs are believed to be associated with the outflows from the accretion disks. Most of the low-luminosity AGNs (LLAGNs) contain advection dominated accretion flows (ADAFs), which are very hot and have a positive Bernoulli parameter. ADAFs are therefore associated with strong outflows. We estimate the cooling of the outflows from the ADAFs, and find that the gases in such hot outflows always cannot be cooled efficiently by bremsstrahlung radiation. The ADAF may co-exist wi…
Numerical hydrodynamic simulation of inviscid and viscous flows have shown that significant outflows could be produced from the CENtrifugal pressure supported BOundary Layer or CENBOL of an advective disk. However, this barrier is weakened in presence of viscosity, more so, if there are explicit energy dissipations at the boundary layer itself. We study effects of viscosity and energy dissipation theoretically on the outflow rate and show that as the viscosity or energy dissipation (or both) rises, the prospect of formation of outflows is greatly reduced, thereby verifying results obtained thr…
Relativistic jets are observed only in the low/hard and intermediate states of X-ray binaries (XRBs), and are switched off in the thermal state, but they appear to be present in both low-luminosity and luminous active galactic nuclei (AGNs). It is widely believed that strong large-scale magnetic fields is a crucial ingredient in jet production; such fields can be attained only through efficient advection from the outer disc. We suggest that geometrically thin accretion discs with magnetic outflows are present in luminous radio-loud AGNs; this is likely because the interstellar medium provides …
The main aim of this paper is studying the effect of toroidal magnetic field on the structure of Advection-Dominated Accretion Flows (ADAF) in the presence of the turbulence viscosity and diffusivity due to viscosity and magnetic field respectively. We use self-similar assumption in radial direction to solve the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations for hot accretion disk. We use spherical coordinate $ (r, θ, φ) $ to solve our equation. The toroidal component of magnetic field is considered and all three components of the velocity field $ \mathbf{v}\equiv (v_{r}, v_θ, v_φ) $ are present in our w…
Using our theory for the production of relativistic outflows, we estimate the jet launching radius and the inferred mass accretion rate for 52 low-power radio-loud AGNs based on the observed jet powers. Our analysis indicates that (1) a significant fraction of the accreted energy is required to convert the accreted mass to relativistic energy particles for the production of the jets near the event horizon, (2) the jets launching radius moves radially toward the horizon as the mass accretion rate or jets power increases, and (3) no jet/outflow formation is possible beyond 44 gravitational radii…
We explore thermal X-ray iron line emission from the galactic X-ray binary GX 339-4 in the off state, using the models of the advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) without or with outflows. The equivalent widths of hydrogen-like and helium-like thermal iron lines are calculated with different model parameters including viscosity parameter $α$, mass accretion rate at the outer radius of the ADAF $\dot{m}_{\rm out}$ and outflow strength parameter $p$. Our calculations show that the equivalent widths of thermal iron lines emitted from the pure ADAF, i.e., the ADAF without outflows, should be …
In standard accretion discs, outward angular momentum transfer by viscous forces is compensated by the inward motion of the accreting matter. However, the vertical structure of real accretion discs leads to meridional circulation with comparable amplitudes of poloidal velocities. Using thin-disc approximation, we consider different regimes of disc accretion with different vertical viscosity scalings. We show that, while gas-pressure-dominated discs can easily have a midplane outflow, standard thin radiation-pressure-dominated disc is normally moving inwards at all the heights. However, quasi-s…
The observations and simulations have revealed that large-scale magnetic field and outflows can exist in the inner regions of an advection-dominated accretion disc where the resistive diffusion may also be important. In the present paper, the roles of large-scale magnetic field and outflows in the structure of resistive advection-dominated accretion discs are explored by assuming that the accretion flow is radially self-similar. In the non-ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) approximation, the results show that the angular velocity is always sub-Keplerian when both the outflow and the large-scale …
We investigate the interactions of energetic hadronic particles with the media in outflows from star-forming protogalaxies. These particles undergo pion-producing interactions which can drive a heating effect in the outflow, while those advected by the outflow also transport energy beyond the galaxy, heating the circumgalactic medium. We investigate how this process evolves over the length of the outflow and calculate the corresponding heating rates in advection-dominated and diffusion-dominated cosmic ray transport regimes. In a purely diffusive transport scenario, we find the peak heating ra…

We implement a new semi-analytical approach to investigate radially self-similar solutions for the steady-state advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs). We employ the usual $α$-prescription for the viscosity and all the components of the energy-momentum tensor are considered. In this case, in the spherical coordinate, the problem reduces to a set of eighth-order, nonlinear differential equations with respect to the latitudinal angle $θ$. Using the Fourier expansions for all the flow quantities, we convert the governing differential equations to a large set of nonlinear algebraic equations …
We study the coupled disc-jet system around the black hole where the outflow solutions are obtained in terms of the inflow parameters. We observe that an advective accretion disc can eject outflows/jets for wide range of viscosity parameter. However, such possibility is reduced if the cooling is active as the energy dissipative process inside the disc. For mass outflow, we obtain the parameter space spanned by the inflow angular momentum and the viscosity in terms of cooling and quantify the limits of viscosity parameter.
In order to study the outflows from accretion disks, we solve the set of hydrodynamic equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates ($rθϕ$) to obtain the explicit structure along the $θ$ direction. Using self-similar assumptions in the radial direction, we change the equations to a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) about the $θ$-coordinate, which are then solved with symmetrical boundary conditions in the equatorial plane, and the velocity field is obtained. The $α$ viscosity prescription is applied and an advective factor $f$ is used to simplify the energy equation.Th…
We have carried out and analyzed a set of axisymmetric MHD simulations of the evolution of a turbulent/diffusive accretion disc around an initially unmagnetized star. The disc is initially threaded by a weak magnetic field where the magnetic pressure is significantly less than the kinetic pressure in the disc. The viscosity and magnetic diffusivity are modelled by two "alpha" parameters, while the coronal region above the disc is treated using ideal MHD. The initial magnetic field is taken to consist of three poloidal field loops threading the disc. The motivation for this study is to understa…
We suggest a model of the advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) with magnetically driven outflows to explain hysteretic state transition observed in X-ray binaries (XRBs). The transition from a thin disk to an ADAF occurs when the mass accretion rate is below a critical value. The critical mass accretion rate for the ADAF can be estimated by equating the equilibration timescale to accretion timescale of the ADAF, which is sensitive to its radial velocity. The radial velocity of thin disks is very small, which leads to the advection of the external field in thin disks very inefficient. ADAF…
There is a significant nonlinear correlation between the Eddington ratio (L_bol=L_Edd) and the Eddington-scaled kinetic power (L_kin=L_Edd) of jets in low luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGNs) (Merloni & Heinz). It is believed that these low luminosity AGNs contain advection dominated accretion flows (ADAFs). We adopt the ADAF model developed by Li & Cao, in which the global dynamics of ADAFs with magnetically driven outflows is derived numerically, to explore the relation between bolometric luminosity and kinetic power of jets. We find that the observed relation, L_kin/L_Edd ~ (L_bol=L_Edd…
The present study examines self-similarity evolution of advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) in the presence of a toroidal magnetic field. In this research, it was assumed that the angular momentum transport is due to viscous turbulence and $α$-prescription was used for kinematics coefficient of viscosity. In order to solve the integrated equations which govern the dynamical behavior of the accretion flow, self-similar solution was used. The solutions show that the behavior of physical quantities in a dynamical ADAF are different from steady accretion flow and a disk with polytropic appro…
We study viscous accretion disc around black holes, and all possible accretion solutions, including shocked as well as shock free accretion branches. Shock driven bipolar outflows from a viscous accretion disc around a black hole has been investigated. One can identify two critical viscosity parameters $α_{cl}$ and $α_{cu}$, within which the stationary shocks may occur, for each set of boundary conditions. Adiabatic shock has been found for upto viscosity parameter $α=0.3$, while in presence of dissipation and massloss we have found stationary shock upto $α=0.15$. The mass outflow rate may inc…
We study the time dependent properties of sub-Keplerian viscous accretion flow around the black holes. We find that rotating matter feels centrifugal barrier on the way towards the black holes and eventually, shock transition is triggered allowing a part of the post-shock matter to eject out as bipolar outflow. This outflowing matters are supposed to be the precursor of relativistic jets. As viscosity is increased, shock becomes unsteady and start to oscillate when viscosity reached its critical value. This causes the inner part of the disk unsteady resulting periodic ejection of matter from t…
We solved analytically viscous two-dimensional (2D) fluid equations for accretion and outflows in spherical polar coordinates ($r, θ, ϕ$) and obtained explicitly flow variables in $r-$ and $θ-$directions around black holes (BHs). We investigated global transonic advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) solutions in $r-$direction on an equatorial plane with using Paczyński-Wiita potential. We used radial flow variables of ADAFs with symmetric conditions on the equatorial plane, as initial values for integration in $θ-$direction. In the study of 2D disk structure, we used two-azimuthal componen…
The existence of outflow in accretion flows is confirmed by observations and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations. In this paper, we study outflows of accretion flows in the presence of resistivity and toroidal magnetic field. The mechanism of energy dissipation in the flow is assumed to be the viscosity and the magnetic diffusivity due to turbulence in the accretion flow. It is also assumed that the magnetic diffusivity and the kinematic viscosity are not constant and vary by position and $α$-prescription is used for them. The influence of outflow emanating from accretion disc is considered…
Outflows launched from a remnant disc of compact binary merger may have essential contribution to the kilonova emission. Numerical calculations are conducted in this work to study the structure of accretion flows and outflows. By the incorporation of limited-energy advection in the hyper-accretion discs, outflows occur naturally from accretion flows due to imbalance between the viscous heating and the sum of the advective and radiative cooling. Following this spirit, we revisit the properties of the merger outflow ejecta. Our results show that around $10^{-3} \sim 10^{-1} M_\odot$ of the disc …
We solve the set of hydrodynamic (HD) equations for optically thin Advection Dominated Accretion Flows (ADAFs) by assuming radially self-similar in spherical coordinate system $ (r, θ, ϕ) $. The disk is considered to be steady state and axi-symmetric. We define the boundary conditions at the pole and the equator of the disk and to avoid singularity at the rotation axis, the disk is taken to be symmetric with respect to this axis. Moreover, only the $ τ_{r ϕ} $ component of viscous stress tensor is assumed and we have set $ v_θ = 0 $. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the variati…
Time evolution of advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) around a rotating compact object is presented. The equations of time-dependent of fluid including the Coriolis force along with the centrifugal and pressure gradient forces are derived. In this research, it is assumed that angular momentum transport is due to viscous turbulence and the α-prescription is used for the kinematic coefficient of viscosity. Moreover, the general relativistic effects are neglected. In order to solve the equations, we have used a self-similar solution. The solutions show that the behaviour of the physical qua…
In accretion systems, outflows may have significant influence on the luminosity fluctuations. In this paper, following the Lyubarskii's general scheme, we revisit the power spectral density of luminosity fluctuations by taking into account the role of outflows. Our analysis is based on the assumption that the coupling between the local outflow and inflow is weak on the accretion rate fluctuations. We find that, for the inflow mass accretion rate $\dot M \propto r^{s}$, the power spectrum of flicker noise component will present a power-law distribution $p(f) \propto f^{-(1+4s/3)}$ for advection…
Extreme sources in the Transient Universe show evidence of relativistic outflows from intermittent inner engines, such as cosmological gamma-ray bursts. They probably derive from rotating back holes interacting with surrounding matter. We show that these interactions are enhanced inversely proportional to the duty cycle in advection of magnetic flux, as may apply at high accretion rates. We demonstrate the morphology and ballistic propagation of relativistic ejecta from burst outflows by numerical simulations in relativistic magnetohydrodynamics. Applied to stellar mass black holes in core-col…
Observations of the hot gas, which is surrounding Sgr A* and a few other nearby galactic nuclei, imply that mean free paths of electron and proton are comparable to gas capture radius. So, hot accretion flows likely proceed under week collision conditions. As a result thermal conduction by ions has a considerable contribution in transfer of the realized heat in accretion mechanisms. We study a 2D advective accretion disk bathed in a poloidal magnetic field of a central accretor in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscose-…
The fact that self-confined jets are observed around black holes, neutron stars and young forming stars points to a jet launching mechanism independent of the nature of the central object, namely the surrounding accretion disc. The properties of Jet Emitting Discs (JEDs) are briefly reviewed. It is argued that, within an alpha prescription for the turbulence (anomalous viscosity and diffusivity), the steady-state problem has been solved. Conditions for launching jets are very stringent and require a large scale magnetic field $B_z$ close to equipartition with the total (gas and radiation) pres…
Large-scale magnetic field is believed to play a key role in launching and collimating jets/outflows. It was found that advection of external field by a geometrically thin disk is rather inefficient, while the external weak field may be dragged inwards by fast radially moving tenuous or/and hot gas above the thin disk. We investigate the field advection in a thin (cold) accretion disk covered with hot corona, in which turbulence is responsible for the angular momentum transfer of the gas in the disk and corona. The radial velocity of the gas in the corona is significantly higher than that in t…
The distribution function describing the acceleration of relativistic particles in an advection-dominated accretion disk is analyzed using a transport formalism that includes first-order Fermi acceleration, advection, spatial diffusion, and the escape of particles through the upper and lower surfaces of the disk. When a centrifugally-supported shock is present in the disk, the concentrated particle acceleration occurring in the vicinity of the shock channels a significant fraction of the binding energy of the accreting gas into a population of relativistic particles. These high-energy particle…
We investigated effects on flow variables of transonic advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) for different outer boundary locations (BLs) with a changing energy constant ($E$) of the flow. We used the ADAF solutions and investigated a general power index rule of a radial bulk velocity $(\vr\propto r^{-p})$ with different BLs, but the power index with radius for a rotation velocity and sound speed is unchanged. Here, $p\geq0.5$ is a power index. This power rule gives two types of self-similar solutions; first, when $p=0.5$ gives a self-similar solution of a first kind and exists for infin…
We examine the jets and the disc of SS 433 at super-Eddington luminosities with 600 times Eddington critical accretion rate by time-dependent two-dimensional radiation hydrodynamical calculations, assuming alpha-model for the viscosity. One-dimensional supercritical accretion disc models with mass loss or advection are used as the initial configurations of the disc. As a result, from the initial advective disc models with alpha =0.001 and 0.1, we obtain the total luminosities 2.5x10^{40} and 2.0x10^{40} erg/s. The total mass-outflow rates are 4x10^{-5} and 10^{-4} solar-mass/yr and the rates o…
We investigate the role of radiative driving of shock ejected bipolar outflows from advective accretion discs in a self consistent manner. Radiations from the inner disc affects the subsonic part of the jet while those from the pre-shock disc affects the supersonic part, and there by constitutes a multi stage acceleration process. We show that the radiation from the inner disc not only accelerate but also increase the mass outflow rate, while the radiation from the pre-shock disc only increases the kinetic energy of the flow. With proper proportions of these two radiations, very high terminal …
We study local stability of the advection-dominated optically thick (slim) and optically thin discs with purely toroidal magnetic field and the radial viscous force using a linear perturbation analysis. Our dispersion relation indicates that the presence of magnetic fields and radial viscous force cannot give rise to any new mode of the instability. We find, however, that growth rate of the thermal mode in the slim discs and that of the acoustic modes in the slim and optically thin discs are dramatically affected by the radial viscous force. This force tends to strongly decrease the growth rat…
In this paper, the self-similar solution of resistive advection dominated accretion flows (ADAF) in the presence of a pure azimuthal magnetic field is investigated. The mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the viscosity and the magnetic diffusivity due to turbulence in the accretion flow. It is assumed that the magnetic diffusivity and the kinematic viscosity are not constant and vary by position and $α$-prescription is used for them. In order to solve the integrated equations that govern the behavior of the accretion flow, a self-similar method is used. The solutions show that the…
In this Letter, we present a new self-consistent theory for the production of the relativistic outflows observed from radio-loud black hole candidates and active galaxies as a result of particle acceleration in hot, viscous accretion disks containing standing, centrifugally-supported isothermal shocks. This is the first work to obtain the structure of such disks for a relatively large value of the Shakura-Sunyaev viscosity parameter ($α=0.1$), and to consider the implications of the shock for the acceleration of relativistic particles in viscous disks. In our approach, the hydrodynamics and th…
Depending on the values of the energy and angular momentum per unit mass in the gas supplied at large radii, inviscid advection-dominated accretion flows can display velocity profiles with either preshock deceleration or preshock acceleration. Nakayama has shown that these two types of flow configurations are expected to have different stability properties. By employing the Chevalier \& Imamura linearization method and the Nakayama instability boundary conditions, we discover that there are regions of parameter space where disks/shocks with outflows can be stable or unstable. In regions of ins…
