Generated Jacobian equations are Monge-Ampère type equations which contain optimal transport as a special case. Therefore, optimal transport case has its own special structure which is not necessarily true for more general generated Jacobian equations. Hence the theory for optimal transport can not be directly transplanted to generated Jacobian equations. In this paper, we point out the difficulties that prevent applying the proof the local Hölder regularity of solutions of optimal transport problem from \cite{Loeper2009OnTR} directly to Generated Jacobian Equations, we then discuss how to handle these difficulties, and prove local Hölder regularity in the generated Jacobian equation case.
H{ö}lder regularity of parabolic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and application to reaction-diffusion and reaction-cross-diffusion systems
We study here a new generalization of Caffarelli, Kohn and Nirenberg's partial regularity theory for weak solutions of the MHD equations. Indeed, in this framework some hypotheses on the pressure P are usually asked (for example P $\in$ L q t L 1 x with q > 1) and then local H{ö}lder regularity, in time and space variables, for weak solutions can be obtained over small neighborhoods. By introducing the notion of dissipative solutions, we weaken the hypothesis on the pressure (we will only assume that P $\in$ D) and we will obtain H{ö}lder regularity in the space variable for weak solutions.
We show that local weak solutions to parabolic systems of p-Laplace type are H{ö}lder continuous in time with values in a spatial Lebesgue space and H{ö}lder continuous on almost every time line. We provide an elementary and self-contained proof building on the local higher integrability result of Kinnunen and Lewis.

In the analysis of PDEs, regularity of often measured in terms of Sobolev, H{ö}lder, Besov or Lipschitz spaces, etc. However, sometimes a gain of regularity can also be expressed just in terms of Lebesgue spaces, by passing from a singular setting to a less singular one. In this article we will obtain a gain of integrability for weak solutions of the micropolar fluid equations using as general framework Morrey spaces, which is a very useful language to study regularity in PDEs. An interesting point is that the two variables of the micropolar fluid equations can be studied separately.
We prove that outside of a closed singular set of measure zero solutions to the second boundary value problem for generated Jacobian equations are smooth.
This is a PhD thesis about generated Jacobian equations; our purpose is twofold. First, we provide an introduction to these equations, whilst, at the same time, collating some results scattered throughout the literature. The other goal is to present the author's own results on these equations. These results all concern solutions of generated Jacobian equations, usually paired with the second boundary value problem. We prove strict convexity and $C^1$ differentiability results under optimal hypothesis in two dimensions, and the same results in higher dimensions with some additional hypothesis. …
This work studies the regularity and the geometric significance of solution of the Cauchy problem for a degenerate parabolic equation $u_{t}=Δu^{m}$. Our main objective is to improve the H$\ddot{o}$lder estimate obtained by pioneers and then, to show the geometric characteristic of free boundary of degenerate parabolic equation. To be exact, the present work will show that: (1) the weak solution $u(x,t)\in{}C^{α,\fracα{2}}(\mathbb{R}^{n}\times\mathbb{R}^{+})$, where $α\in(0,1)$ when $m\geq2$ and $α=1$ when $m\in(1,2)$; (2) the surface $ϕ=(u(x,t))^β$ is a complete Riemannian manifold, which is …
The incompressible Micropolar system is given by two coupled equations: the first equation gives the evolution of the velocity field u while the second equation gives the evolution of the microrotation field $ω$. In this article we will consider regularity problems for weak solutions of this system. For this we will introduce the new notion of partial suitable solutions, which imposes a specific behavior for the velocity field u only, and under some classical hypotheses over the pressure, we will obtain a h{ö}lderian gain for both variables u and $ω$.
We extend the De Giorgi--Nash--Moser theory to a class of kinetic Fokker-Planck equations and deduce new results on the Landau-Coulomb equation. More precisely, we first study the H{ö}lder regularity and establish a Harnack inequality for solutions to a general linear equation of Fokker-Planck type whose coefficients are merely measurable and essentially bounded, i.e. assuming no regularity on the coefficients in order to later derive results for non-linear problems. This general equation has the formal structure of the hypoelliptic equations "of type II" , sometimes also called ultraparabolic…
This article has two purposes. The first is to prove solutions of the second boundary value problem for generated Jacobian equations are strictly $g$-convex. The second is to prove the global $C^3$ regularity of Aleksandrov solutions to the same problem under stronger hypothesis. These are related because the strict $g$-convexity is essential for the proof of the global regularity. The assumptions for the strict $g$-convexity are the natural extension of those used by Chen and Wang in the optimal transport case. They improve the existing domain conditions though at the expense of requiring a $…
The study of reflector surfaces in geometric optics necessitates the analysis of certain nonlinear equations of Monge-Ampère type known as generated Jacobian equations. These equations, whose general existence theory has been recently developed by Trudinger go beyond the framework of optimal transport. We obtain pointwise estimates for weak solutions of such equations under a condition analogous to the A3w condition of Ma, Trudinger and Wang. Estimates of this type have played an important role in the regularity theory for optimal transport maps and were previously unknown in this context, inc…
We establish strong uniqueness for a class of degenerate SDEs of weak H{ö}rmander type under suitable H{ö}lder regularity conditions for the associated drift term. Our approach relies on the Zvonkin transform which requires to exhibit good smoothing properties of the underlying parabolic PDE with rough, here H{ö}lder, drift coefficients and source term. Such regularizing effects are established through a perturbation technique (forward parametrix approach) which also heavily relies on appropriate duality properties on Besov spaces. For the method employed, we exhibit some sharp thresholds on t…
We present a proof of strict $g$-convexity in 2D for solutions of generated Jacobian equations with a $g$-Monge-Ampère measure bounded away from 0. Subsequently this implies $C^1$ differentiability in the case of a $g$-Monge-Ampère measure bounded from above. Our proof follows one given by Trudinger and Wang in the Monge-Ampère case. Thus, like theirs, our argument is local and yields a quantitative estimate on the $g$-convexity. As a result our differentiability result is new even in the optimal transport case: we weaken previously required domain convexity conditions. Moreover in the optimal…
We develop the fundamentals of a local regularity theory for prescribed Jacobian equations which extend the corresponding results for optimal transportation equations. In this theory the cost function is extended to a generating function through dependence on an additional scalar variable. In particular we recover in this generality the local regularity theory for potentials of Ma,Trudinger and Wang, along with the subsequent development of the underlying convexity theory.
We study the regularity criteria of the three dimensional generalized MHD and Navier-Stokes systems. In particular, we show that the regularity criteria of the generalized MHD system may be reduced to depend only on two diagonal entries of the Jacobian matrix of the velocity vector field or one vorticity component and one entry of the Jacobian matrix of the velocity vector field.
In this paper we revisit our previous study of the local theory of prescribed Jacobian equations associated with generating functions, which are extensions of cost functions in the theory of optimal transportation. In particular, as foreshadowed in the earlier work, we provide details pertaining to the relaxation of a monotonicity condition A4w in the underlying convexity theory and the consequent classical regularity. Taking advantage of recent work of Kitagawa and Guillen, we also extend our classical regularity theory to the weak form A3w of the critical matrix convexity conditions.
In this paper, we show that the minimal solution of a backward stochastic differential equation gives a probabilistic representation of the minimal viscosity solution of an integro-partial differential equation both with a singular terminal condition. Singularity means that at the final time, the value of the solution can be equal to infinity. Different types of regularity of this viscosity solution are investigated: Sobolev, H{ö}lder or strong regularity.
We consider nonlinear Kolmogorov-Fokker-Planck type equations of the form \begin{equation}\label{abeqn} (\partial_t+X\cdot\nabla_Y)u=\nabla_X\cdot(A(\nabla_X u,X,Y,t)). \end{equation} The function $A=A(ξ,X,Y,t):\R^m\times\R^m\times\R^m\times\R\to\R^m$ is assumed to be continuous with respect to $ξ$, and measurable with respect to $X,Y$ and $t$. $A=A(ξ,X,Y,t)$ is allowed to be nonlinear but with linear growth. We establish higher integrability and local boundedness of weak sub-solutions, weak Harnack and Harnack inequalities, and H{ö}lder continuity with quantitative estimates. In addition we e…
Here we investigate the so-called temperature patch problem for the incompressible Boussinesq system with partial viscosity, in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^N$ $(N \geq 2)$, where the initial temperature is the characteristic function of some simply connected domain with $C^{1, \varepsilon}$ H{ö}lder regularity. Although recent results in [1, 15] ensure that an initially $C^1$ patch persists through the evolution, whether higher regularity is preserved has remained an open question. In the present paper, we give a positive answer to that issue globally in time, in the 2-D case for large initial…
This article is concerned with a porous medium equation whose pressure law is both nonlinear and nonlocal, namely $\partial_t u = { \nabla \cdot} \left(u \nabla(-Δ)^{\fracα{2}-1}u^{m-1} \right)$ where $u:\mathbb{R}_+\times \mathbb{R}^N \to \mathbb{R}_+$, for $0<α<2$ and $m\geq2$. We prove that the $L^1\cap L^\infty$ weak solutions constructed by Biler, Imbert and Karch (2015) are locally H{ö}lder-continuous in time and space. In this article, the classical parabolic De Giorgi techniques for the regularity of PDEs are tailored to fit this particular variant of the PME equation. In the spirit of…
We prove two Hölder regularity results for solutions of generated Jacobian equations. First, that under the A3 condition and the assumption of nonnegative $L^p$ valued data solutions are $C^{1,α}$ for an $α$ that is sharp. Then, under the additional assumption of positive Dini continuous data, we prove a $C^{2}$ estimate. Thus the equation is uniformly elliptic and when the data is Hölder continuous solutions are in $C^{2,α}$.
Investigating for interior regularity of viscosity solutions to the fully nonlinear elliptic equation $$F(x,u,\triangledown u,\triangledown ^2 u)=0,$$ we establish the interior $C^{1+1}$ continuity under the assumptions that $F$ is uniformly elliptic, H$\ddot o$lder continuous and satisfies the natural structure conditions of fractional order, but without the concavity assumption of $F$. These assumptions are weaker and the result is stronger than that of Caffarelli and Wang[1], Chen[2].
We consider the maximal regularity problem for non-autonomous evolution equations of the form $u(t) + A(t) u(t) = f(t)$ with initial data $u(0) = u\_0$ . Each operator $A(t)$ is associated with a sesquilinear form $a(t; *, *)$ on a Hilbert space $H$ . We assume that these forms all have the same domain and satisfy some regularity assumption with respect to t (e.g., piecewise $α$-H{ö}lder continuous for some $α\textgreater{} 1/2$). We prove maximal Lp-regularity for all initial values in the real-interpolation space $(H, D(A(0)))\_{1/p,p}$ . The particular case where $p = 2$ improves previously…
We study existence and regularity of solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the prescribed Jacobian equation, $\det Du = f$, where $f$ is integrable and bounded away from zero. In particular, we take $f\in L^p$, where $p > 1$, or in $L\log L$. We prove that for a Baire-generic $f$ in either space there are no solutions with the expected regularity.
We prove that two Aleksandrov solutions of a generated prescribed Jacobian equation have the same gradients at points where they are both differentiable. For the optimal transportation case where two solutions can be translated to agree at a point without changing the $g$-subdifferential at that point, we recover the uniqueness up to a constant of solutions. For the general case, our result is a new proof with less regularity assumptions of a key theorem recently used to prove the uniqueness of solutions.
In this paper we provide a sufficient condition, in terms of only one of the nine entries of the gradient tensor, i.e., the Jacobian matrix of the velocity vector field, for the global regularity of strong solutions to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space, as well as for the case of periodic boundary conditions.
This article provides techniques of raising the regularity of fractional order equations and resolves fundamental questions on the one-dimensional homogeneous boundary-value problem of skewed (double-sided) fractional diffusion advection reaction equation (FDARE) with variable coefficients on the bounded interval. The existence of the true (classical) solution together with norm estimation is established and the precise regularity bound is found; also, the structure of the solution is unraveled, capturing the essence of regularity, singularity, and other features of the solution. The key analy…
In Dacorogna-Moser theorem on the pullback equation $φ^* (g)=f$ between two prescribed volume forms (with the same total volume), control of support of the solutions can be obtained from that of the initial data, while keeping optimal regularity. This result answers a problem implicitly raised on page 14 of Dacorogna-Moser's original article ("On a partial differential equation involving the Jacobian determinant", Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré Anal. Non Linéaire 7 (1990), 1-26), and fully generalizes the solution to the particular case of $g\equiv 1$ (prescribed Jacobian PDE, $\text{det}\,\nablaφ=f$)…
The original proof of Dacorogna-Moser theorem on the prescribed Jacobian PDE, $\text{det}\,\nablaφ=f$, can be modified in order to obtain control of support of the solutions from that of the initial data, while keeping optimal regularity. Briefly, under the usual conditions, a solution diffeomorphism $φ$ satisfying \[ \text{supp}(f-1)\subset\varOmega\Longrightarrow\text{supp}(φ-\text{id})\subset\varOmega \] can be found and $φ$ is still of class $C^{r+1,α}$ if $f$ is $C^{r,α}$, the domain of $f$ being a bounded connected open $C^{r+2,α}$ set $\varOmega\subset\mathbb{R}^{n}$.
In this paper, we study the regularity of optimal mappings in Monge's mass transfer problem. Using the approximation to Monge's cost function given by the Euclidean distance c(x,y)=dist(x,y) through the costs c_\eps(x,y)=(\eps^2+dist(x,y)^2)^{1/2}, we consider the optimal mappings T_\eps for these costs, and we prove that the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix DT_\eps, which are all positive, are locally uniformly bounded. By an example we prove that T_\eps is in general not uniformly Lipschitz continuous as \eps-0, even if the mass distributions are positive and smooth, and the domains are c-…
Non-uniqueness of three-dimensional Euler equations and Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise, path-wise and more recently even in law, have been proven by various authors. We prove non-uniqueness in law of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise and diffused via a fractional Laplacian that has power between zero and one half. The solution we construct has H$\ddot{\mathrm{o}}$lder regularity with a small exponent rather than Sobolev regularity with a small exponent. For the power sufficiently small, the non-uniqueness in law holds at the level of Leray-Hop…
In this note we revisit previous Pogorelov type interior and global second derivative estimates of the author, F. Jiang and J. Liu for solutions of Monge-Amp`ere type partial differential equations. Taking account of recent strict convexity regularity results of Guillen, Kitagawa and Rankin, and following our earlier work in the optimal transportation case, we remove the monotonicity assumptions in the more general case of generated Jacobian equations and consequently in the subsequent application to classical solvability and global regularity for second boundary value problems.
For a nonlinear operator $T$ satisfying certain structural assumptions, our main theorem states that the following claims are equivalent: i) $T$ is surjective, ii) $T$ is open at zero, and iii) $T$ has a bounded right inverse. The theorem applies to numerous scale-invariant PDEs in regularity regimes where the equations are stable under weak$^*$ convergence. Two particular examples we explore are the Jacobian equation and the equations of incompressible fluid flow. For the Jacobian, it is a long standing open problem to decide whether it is onto between the critical Sobolev space and the Hardy…
In this paper, we prove second derivative estimates together with classical solvability for the Dirichlet problem of certain Monge-Ampere type equations under sharp hypotheses. In particular we assume that the matrix function in the augmented Hessian is regular in the sense used by Trudinger and Wang in their study of global regularity in optimal transportation [28] as well as the existence of a smooth subsolution. The latter hypothesis replaces a barrier condition also used in their work. The applications to optimal transportation and prescribed Jacobian equations are also indicated.
