We review and present full detail of the Feynman diagram - based and heat-kernel method - based calculations of the simplest nonlocal form factors in the one-loop contributions of a massive scalar field. The paper has a pedagogical and introductory purposes and is intended to help the reader in better understanding the existing literature on the subject. The functional calculations are based on the solution by Avramidi and Barvinsky \& Vilkovisky for the heat kernel and are performed in curved spacetime. One of the important points is that the main structure of non-localities is the same as in the flat background.
In this paper we present an improved RI-type prescription appropriate for the non-perturbative renormalization of gauge invariant nonlocal operators. In this prescription, the non-perturbative vertex function is improved by subtracting unwanted finite lattice spacing ($a$) effects, calculated in lattice perturbation theory. The method is versatile and can be applied to a wide range of fermion and gluon actions, as well as types of nonlocal operators. The presence of operator mixing can also be accommodated. Compared to the standard RI' prescription, this variant can be recast as a supplementar…
Schwarz-Christoffel (SC) mapping plays a crucial role in the calculation of the large-size expansion for polygonal Wilson loops in confining gauge theories using effective string theory (EST). Recently a new analytical regularization based on SC mapping was suggested and successfully applied to the calculation of the two-loop contribution of EST in the case of triangular Wilson loops. We prove that this analytical renormalization produces finite results for arbitrary polygonal Wilson loops and show that the result of the analytical renormalization for a given polygonal contour is independent o…
We present two-loop renormalization of $ϕ^3$-model effective action by using the background field method and cutoff momentum regularization. In this paper, we also study a derivation of the quantum equation of motion and its application to the renormalization.
We formulate a perturbation expansion for the effective action in a new approach to the functional renormalization group method based on the concept of composite fields for regulator functions being their most essential ingredients. We demonstrate explicitly the principal difference between the properties of effective actions in these two approaches existing already on the one-loop level in a simple gauge model.
We calculate contributions to the one-loop renormalization in the spinor sector of the minimal Lorentz-violating extended QED in the second order in Lorentz-breaking parameters. From the renormalizability viewpoint, we show that the inclusion of some of the Lorentz-breaking terms in the model is linked to the presence of others. We also demonstrate that the Ward identities are satisfied up to this order.
Within the superfield approach, we consider the nonlocal generalization of the Wess-Zumino model and calculate the one-loop low-energy contributions to the effective action. Four different nonlocal models are considered, among which only the first model does not reduce to the standard Wess-Zumino model when we take the parameter of nonlocality of the model, $Λ$, much greater than any energy scale; in addition, this model also depends on an extra parameter, $ξ$. As to the other three models, the result looks like the renormalized effective potential for the usual Wess-Zumino model, where the no…
In the eighties, Schroder studied a quantum mechanical model where the stationary states of Schrodinger's equation obey nonlocal boundary conditions on a circle in the plane. For such a problem, we perform a detailed one-loop calculation for three choices of the kernel characterizing the nonlocal boundary conditions. In such cases, the zeta(0) value is found to coincide with the one resulting from Robin boundary conditions. The detailed technique here developed may be useful for studying one-loop properties of quantum field theory and quantum gravity if nonlocal boundary conditions are imposed…
Nonlocal gravity has been shown to provide a phenomenologically viable infrared modification of GR. A natural question is whether the required nonlocality can emerge from perturbative quantum loop corrections due to light particles. We show that this is not the case. For the value of the mass scale of the non-local models required by cosmology, the perturbative form factors obtained from the loop corrections, in the present cosmological epoch, are in the regime where they are local. The mechanism behind the generation of the required nonlocality must be more complex, possibly related to strong…
We present new analytical five-loop Feynman-gauge results for the anomalous dimensions of ghost field and -vertex, generalizing the known values for SU(3) to a general gauge group. Together with previously published results on the quark mass and -field anomalous dimensions and the Beta function, this completes the 5-loop renormalization program of gauge theories in that gauge.
We analize the impact of two-loop renormalization group equations on the $SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_w\times U(1)_Y$ gauge couplings unification in various supersymmetric theories. In general the presence of superfields in higher representation than the doublet spoil the gauge couplings unification at one-loop. The situation is more interesting when the renormalization group equations are calculated at two-loop. In this case we show that the unification of the gauge couplings can be achieved for models with triplet superfield(s). In the analysis of the models with triplet superfield(s) we show that t…
In quantum field theory, a consistent prescription to define and deform integration contours in the complex energy plane is needed to evaluate loop integrals and compute scattering amplitudes. In some nonlocal field theories, including string field theory, interaction vertices contain transcendental functions of momenta that can diverge along certain complex directions, thus making it impossible to use standard techniques, such as Wick rotation, to perform loop integrals. The aim of this paper is to investigate the viability of several contour prescriptions in the presence of nonlocal vertices…
We present five-loop results for the renormalization of various models with a cubic interaction (in ${d = 6 - 2 \varepsilon}$ dimensions). For the scalar model and its ${O(n)}$-symmetric extension we provide renormalization constants, anomalous dimensions and critical exponents. We discuss in detail the method of calculation, and provide all counterterms up to five loops. This allows one to consider generalizations of the ${φ^3}$ theory to other symmetries.
We provide the renormalization constants of the axial current operators, both singlet and non-singlet, in dimensional regularization up to four-loop order in QCD, determined using the off-shell Ward-Takahashi identity for an axial current with a non-anticommuting $γ_5$. A possible application of the result for the singlet axial current operator is the extraction of the non-decoupling mass logarithms in the axial quark form factors.
