In this paper, we define and study Loewner chains and evolution families on finitely multiply-connected domains in the complex plane. These chains and families consist of conformal mappings on parallel slit half-planes and have one and two "time" parameters, respectively. By analogy with the case of simply connected domains, we develop a general theory of Loewner chains and evolution families on multiply connected domains and, in particular, prove that they obey the chordal Komatu-Loewner differential equations driven by measure-valued processes. Our method involves Brownian motion with darning, as do some recent studies.
In this note we consider a multi-slit Loewner equation with constant coefficients that describes the growth of multiple SLE curves connecting $N$ points on $\mathbb{R}$ to infinity within the upper half-plane. For every $N\in\mathbb{N}$, this equation provides a measure valued process $t\mapsto \{α_{N,t}\},$ and we are interested in the limit behaviour as $N\to\infty.$ We prove tightness of the sequence $\{α_{N,t}\}_{N\in\mathbb{N}}$ under certain assumptions and address some further problems.
This paper studies the behavior of solutions near the explosion time to the chordal Komatu-Loewner equation for slits, motivated by the preceding studies by Bauer and Friedrich (2008) and by Chen and Fukushima (2018). The solution to this equation represents moving slits in the upper half-plane. We show that the distance between the slits and driving function converges to zero at its explosion time. We also prove a probabilistic version of this asymptotic behavior for stochastic Komatu-Loewner evolutions under some natural assumptions.
We prove that any disjoint union of finitely many simple curves in the upper half-plane can be generated in a unique way by the chordal multiple-slit Loewner equation with constant weights.
In this paper, we show that the chordal Loewner differential equation with $C^β$ driving function generates a $C^{β+ 1/2}$ slit for $1/2 < β\leq 2$, except when $β= 3/2$ the slit is only proved to be weakly $C^{1,1}$.
We consider the Loewner differential equation generating univalent maps of the unit disk (or of the upper half-plane) onto itself minus a single slit. We prove that the circular slits, tangent to the real axis are generated by Hölder continuous driving terms with exponent 1/3 in the Loewner equation. Singular solutions are described, and the critical value of the norm of driving terms generating quasisymmetric slits in the disk is obtained.
In this note we discuss some problems related to conformal slit-mappings. On the one hand, classical Loewner theory leads us to questions concerning the embedding of univalent functions into slit-like Loewner chains. On the other hand, a recent result from monotone probability theory motivates the study of univalent functions from a probabilistic perspective.
D. Marshall and S. Rohde have recently shown that there exists $C_0 >0$ so that the Loewner equation generates slits whenever the driving term is Hölder continuous with exponent 1/2 and norm less than $C_0$. In this paper, we show that the maximal value for $C_0$ is 4.
The radial Komatu-Loewner equation is a differential equation for certain normalized conformal mappings that can be used to describe the growth of slits within multiply connected domains. We show that it is possible to choose constant coefficients in this equation in order to generate given disjoint slits and that those coefficients are uniquely determined under a suitable normalization of the differential equation.
We give a generalization of the Komatu-Loewner equation to multiple slits. Therefore, we consider an $n$-connected circular slit disk $Ω$ as our initial domain minus $m\in \mathbb{N}$ disjoint, simple and continuous curves that grow from the outer boundary $\partial \mathbb{D}$ of $Ω$ into the interior. Consequently we get a decreasing family $(Ω_t)_{t\in[0,T]}$ of domains with $Ω_0=Ω$. We will prove that the corresponding Riemann mapping functions $g_t$ from $Ω_t$ onto a circular slit disk, which are normalized by $g_t(0)=0$ and $g_t'(0)>0$, satisfy a Loewner equation known as the Komatu-Loew…
In this text we make study of the geometry of the solutions to the radial and chordal Loewner PDEs, for a particular choice of time-dependent driving measures with multiple point masses.
We consider the chordal Loewner differential equation for multiple slits in the upper half-plane and relations between the pointwise Hölder continuity of the driving functions and the generated hulls. The first result generalizes a result of Lind that gives a sufficient condition for driving functions to generate simple curves. The second result translates the property that the hulls locally look like straight lines at their starting points into a condition for the driving functions.
We consider the Löwner differential equation generating univalent self-maps of the unit disk (or of the upper half-plane). If the solution to this equation represents a one-slit map, then the driving term is a continuous function. The reverse statement is not true in general as a famous Kufarev's example shows. We address the following main problem: to find a criterium for the Löwner equation to generate one-slit solutions. New examples of non-slit solutions to the Löwner equation are presented. Properties of singular slit solutions are revealed.
Let $γ_1,γ_2:[0,T]\to \overline{\mathbb{D}}\setminus\{0\}$ be parametrizations of two slits $Γ_1:=γ(0,T], Γ_2=γ_2(0,T]$ such that $Γ_1$ and $Γ_2$ are disjoint. \\ Let $g_t$ to be the unique normalized conformal mapping from $\mathbb{D}\setminus (γ_1[0,t]\cup γ_2[0,t])$ onto $\mathbb{D}$ with $g_t(0)=0,$ $g'_t(0)>0$. Furthermore, for $k=1,2$, denote by $h_{k;t}$ the unique normalized conformal mapping from $\mathbb{D}\setminus γ_k[0,t]$ onto $\mathbb{D}$ with $h_{k;t}(0)=0,$ ${h'_{k;t}(0)}>0$.\\ Loewner's famous theorem (\cite{Loewner:1923}) can be stated in the following way: The function $t\m…
We study chordal Loewner families in the upper half-plane and show that they have a parametric representation. We show one, that to every chordal Loewner family there corresponds a unique measurable family of probability measures on the real line, and two, that to every measurable family of probability measures on the real line there corresponds a unique chordal Loewner family. In both cases the correspondence is being given by solving the chordal Loewner equation. We use this to show that any probability measure on the real line with finite variance and mean zero has univalent Cauchy transfor…
We construct radial stochastic Loewner evolution in multiply connected domains, choosing the unit disk with concentric circular slits as a family of standard domains. The natural driving function or input is a diffusion on the associated Teichmüller space. The diffusion stops when it reaches the boundary of the Teichmüller space. We show that for this driving function the family of random growing compacts has a phase transition for $κ=4$ and $κ=8$, and that it satisfies locality for $κ=6$.
In part 1 (Chapter 2) we present the basic notions of Loewner theory. Here we use a modern form which was developed by F. Bracci, M. Contreras, S. Díaz-Madrigal et al. and which can be applied to certain higher dimensional complex manifolds. We look at two domains in more detail: the Euclidean unit ball and the polydisc. Here we consider two classes of biholomorphic mappings which were introduced by T. Poreda and G. Kohr as generalizations of the class S and we prove a conjecture about support points of these classes. In part 2 (Chapter 3) we consider one special Loewner equation: the chordal …
In this paper, we discuss the chordal Komatu-Loewner equation on standard slit domains in a manner applicable not just to a simple curve but also a family of continuously growing hulls. Especially a conformally invariant characterization of the Komatu-Loewner evolution is obtained. As an application, we prove a sort of conformal invariance, or locality, of the stochastic Komatu-Loewner evolution $\mathrm{SKLE}_{\sqrt{6}, -b_{\mathrm{BMD}}}$ in a fully general setting, which solves an open problem posed by Chen, Fukushima and Suzuki [Stochastic Komatu-Loewner evolutions and SLEs, Stoch. Proc. A…
In this paper we ask whether one can take the limit of multiple SLE as the number of slits goes to infinity. In the special case of $n$ slits that connect $n$ points of the boundary to one fixed point, one can take the limit of the Loewner equation that describes the growth of those slits in a simultaneous way. In this case, the limit is a deterministic Loewner equation whose vector field is determined by a complex Burgers equation.
We obtain a first order differential equation for the driving function of the chordal Loewner differential equation in the case where the domain is slit by a curve which is a trajectory arc of certain quadratic differentials. In particular this includes the case when the curve is a path on the square, triangle or hexagonal lattice in the upper halfplane or, indeed, in any domain with boundary on the lattice. We also demonstrate how we use this to calculate the driving function numerically. Equivalent results for other variants of the Loewner differential equation are also obtained: Multiple sl…
One-parameter semigroups of holomorphic functions appear naturally in various applications of Complex Analysis, and in particular, in the theory of (temporally) homogeneous Markov processes. A suitable analogue of one-parameter semigroups in the inhomogeneous setting is the notion of a (reverse) evolution family. In this paper we study evolution families formed by Bernstein functions, which play the role of Laplace exponents for inhomogeneous continuous-state branching processes. In particular, we characterize all Herglotz vector fields that generate such evolution families and give a complex-…
We prove that evolution families on complex complete hyperbolic manifolds are in one to one correspondence with certain semicomplete non-autonomous holomorphic vector fields, providing the solution to a very general Loewner type differential equation on manifolds.
In this paper we introduce a general version of the Loewner differential equation which allows us to present a new and unified treatment of both the radial equation introduced in 1923 by K. Loewner and the chordal equation introduced in 2000 by O. Schramm. In particular, we prove that evolution families in the unit disc are in one to one correspondence with solutions to this new type of Loewner equations. Also, we give a Berkson-Porta type formula for non-autonomous weak holomorphic vector fields which generate such Loewner differential equations and study in detail geometric and dynamical pro…
We discuss the extension of radial SLE to multiply connected planar domains. First, we extend Loewner's theory of slit mappings to multiply connected domains by establishing the radial Komatu-Loewner equation, and show that a simple curve from the boundary to the bulk is encoded by a motion on moduli space and a motion on the boundary of the domain. Then, we show that the vector-field describing the motion of the moduli is Lipschitz. We explain why this implies that "consistent," conformally invariant random simple curves are described by multidimensional diffusions, where one component is a m…
We study the problem of quasisymmetrically embedding spaces homeomorphic to the Sierpiński carpet into the plane. In the case of so called dyadic slit carpets, several characterizations are obtained. One characterization is in terms of a Transboundary Loewner Property (TLP) which is a transboundary analogue of the Loewner property of Heinonen and Koskela. We show that a dyadic slit carpet can be quasisymmetrically embedded into the plane if and only if it is TLP. Moreover, every dyadic slit carpet $X$ can be associated to a "pillowcase sphere" $\widehat{X}$ which is a metric space homeomorphic…
We show that an evolution family of the unit disc is commuting if and only if the associated Herglotz vector field has separated variables. This is the case if and only if the evolution family comes from a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of the disc.
The article is devoted to the geometry of solutions to the chordal Loewner equation which is based on comparison of singular solutions and harmonic measures for the sides of a slit in domains generated by a driving term. It is proved that harmonic measures of two sides of a slit in the upper half-plane which is perpendicular to the real axis are asymptotically equal to each other.

We characterize regular fixed points of evolution families in terms of analytical properties of the associated Herglotz vector fields and geometrical properties of the associated Loewner chains. We present several examples showing the rôle of the given conditions. Moreover, we study the relations between evolution families and Herglotz vector fields at regular contact points and prove an embedding result for univalent self-maps of the unit disc with a given boundary regular fixed point into an evolution family with prescribed boundary data.
Among various methods of finding accessory parameters in the Schwarz-Christoffel integrals, Kufarev's method, based on the Loewner differential equation, plays an important role. It is used for describing one-parameter families of functions that conformally map a canonical domain onto a polygon with a slit the endpoint of which moves along a polygonal line starting from a boundary point. We present a modification of Kufarev's method for the case of several slits, the lengths of which have depend of each other in a certain way. We justify the method and find a system of ODEs describing the dyna…
The Loewner equation provides a correspondence between continuous real-valued functions $λ_t$ and certain increasing families of half-plane hulls $K_t$. In this paper we study the deterministic relationship between specific analytic properties of $λ_t$ and geometric properties of $K_t$. Our motivation comes, however, from the stochastic Loewner equation (SLE$_κ$), where the associated function $λ_t$ is a scaled Brownian motion and the corresponding domains $\mathbb{H} \backslash K_t$ are Hölder domains. We prove that if the increasing family $K_t$ is generated by a simple curve and the final d…
In this paper we introduce a general version of the notion of Loewner chains which comes from the new and unified treatment, given in [arXiv:0807.1594], of the radial and chordal variant of the Loewner differential equation, which is of special interest in geometric function theory as well as for various developments it has given rise to, including the famous Schramm-Loewner evolution. In this very general setting, we establish a deep correspondence between these chains and the evolution families introduced in [arXiv:0807.1594]. Among other things, we show that, up to a Riemann map, such a cor…
We present a new geometric construction of Loewner chains in one and several complex variables which holds on a complete hyperbolic complex manifold M and prove that there is essentially a one-to-one correspondence between evolution families of order d and Loewner chains of the same order. As a consequence we obtain a solution for any Loewner-Kufarev PDE, given by univalent mappings (f_t) from M to a complex manifold N. The problem of finding solutions given by univalent mappings with range in C^n is reduced to investigating whether the union of the images f_t(M) is biholomorphic to a domain i…
A new approach in Loewner Theory proposed by Bracci, Contreras, Díaz-Madrigal and Gumenyuk provides a unified treatment of the radial and the chordal versions of the Loewner equations. In this framework, a generalized Loewner chain satisfies the differential equation $$ \partial_{t}f_{t}(z) = (z - τ(t))(1-\overline{τ(t)}z)\partial_{z}f_{t}(z)p(z,t), $$ where $τ: [0,\infty) \to \overline{\mathbb{D}}$ is measurable and $p$ is called a Herglotz function. In this paper, we will show that if there exists a $k \in [0,1)$ such that $p$ satisfies $$ |p(z,t) - 1| \leq k |p(z,t) + 1| $$ for all $z \in \…
Among diversity of frameworks and constructions introduced in Loewner Theory by different authors, one can distinguish two closely related but still different ways of reasoning, which colloquially may be described as "increasing" and "decreasing". In this paper we review in short the main types of (deterministic) Loewner evolution discussed in the literature and describe in detail the local duality between "increasing" and "decreasing" cases within the general unifying approach in Loewner Theory proposed recently in [Bracci et al. to appear in J Reine Angew Math; arXiv:0807.1594v1], [Bracci et…
Loewner Theory is a deep technique in Complex Analysis affording a basis for many further important developments such as the proof of famous Bieberbach's conjecture and well-celebrated Schramm's Stochastic Loewner Evolution (SLE). It provides analytic description of expanding domains dynamics in the plane. Two cases have been developed in the classical theory, namely the {\it radial} and the {\it chordal} Loewner evolutions, referring to the associated families of holomorphic self-mappings being normalized at an internal or boundary point of the reference domain, respectively. Recently there h…
We consider mappings of domains of Riemannian manifolds that admit branch points and satisfy a certain condition regarding the distortion of the modulus of families of paths. We have established logarithmic estimates of distance distortion under such mappings. A separate study relates to the situation when the mappings are defined in metric spaces, and one of them is the Loewner space. We also studied the question of equicontinuity of the families of the indicated mappings in the closure of the domain. In addition, we have established the possibility of continuous extension of these mappings t…
In a recent paper, Ng, Tang and Tsai (Math. Ann. 2020) have found an explicit formula for the squeezing function of an annulus via the Loewner differential equation. Their result has led them to conjecture a corresponding formula for planar domains of any finite connectivity stating that the extremum in the squeezing function problem is achieved for a suitably chosen conformal mapping onto a circularly slit disk. In this paper we disprove this conjecture. We also give a conceptually simple potential-theoretic proof of the explicit formula for the squeezing function of an annulus which has the …
We study the parameter dependence of the Bergman kernels on some planar domains depending on complex parameter ζin nontrivial "pseudoconvex" ways. Smoothly bounded cases are studied at first: It turns out that, in an example where the domains are annuli, the Levi form for the logarithm of the Bergman kernels with respect to ζapproaches to 0 as the point tends to the boundary of the domain, and in another example where the domains are discs, it approaches to 1 as the point tends to the complement of a point in the boundary. Further, in contrast to this, in the cases where the boundary of the do…
