The millimeter sized monolayer and bilayer 2H-MoTe2 single crystal samples are prepared by a new mechanical exfoliation method. Based on such high-quality samples, we report the first direct electronic structure study on them, using standard high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). A direct band gap of 0.924eV is found at K in the rubidium-doped monolayer MoTe2. Similar valence band alignment is also observed in bilayer MoTe2,supporting an assumption of a analogous direct gap semiconductor on it. Our measurements indicate a rather large band splitting of 212meV at the valence band maximum (VBM) in monolayer MoTe2, and the splitting is systematically enlarged with layer stacking, from monolayer to bilayer and to bulk. Meanwhile, our PBE band calculation on these materials show excellent agreement with ARPES results. Some fundamental electronic parameters are derived from the experimental and calculated electronic structures. Our findings lay a foundation for further application-related study on monolayer and bilayer MoTe2.
We demonstrate the possibility in quantifying the Raman intensities for both specimen and substrate layers in a common stacked experimental configuration and, consequently, propose a general and rapid thickness identification technique for atomic-scale layers on dielectric substrates. Unprecedentedly wide-range Raman data for atomically flat MoS2 flakes are collected to compare with theoretical models. We reveal that all intensity features can be accurately captured when including optical interference effect. Surprisingly, we find that even freely suspended chalcogenide few-layer flakes have a…
Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) in the tapping (intermittent contact) mode is a commonly used tool to measure the thickness of graphene and few layer graphene (FLG) flakes on silicon oxide surfaces. It is a convenient tool to quickly determine the thickness of individual FLG films. However, reports from literature show a large variation of the measured thickness of graphene layers. This paper is focused on the imaging mechanism of tapping mode AFM (TAFM) when measuring graphene and FLG thickness and we show that at certain measurement parameters significant deviations can be introduced in the me…
We study the electronic structure of WTe$_2$ thin film fakes with different thickness down to 11 nm. Angle-dependent quantum oscillations reveal a crossover from a three-dimensional (3D) to a two-dimensional (2D) electronic system when the sample thickness is reduced below 26 nm. The quantum oscillations further show that the Fermi pockets get smaller as the samples are made thinner, indicating that the overlap between conduction and valence bands is getting smaller and implying the spatial confinement could lift the overlap in even thinner samples. In addition, the quadratic magnetoresistance…
The clean surfaces of quasicrystals, orthogonal to the directions of the main symmetry axes, have a terrace-like appearance. We extend the Bravais' rule for crystals to quasicrystals, allowing that instead of a single atomic plane a layer of atomic planes may form a bulk termination.
We study the valence band structure of ReSe$_{2}$ crystals with varying thickness down to a single layer using nanoscale angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory. The width of the top valence band in the direction perpendicular to the rhenium chains decreases with decreasing number of layers, from 280 meV for the bulk to 61 meV for monolayer. This demonstrates increase of in-plane anisotropy induced by changes in the interlayer coupling and suggests progressively more one-dimensional character of electronic states in few-layer rhenium dichalcogenides.
Graphene, the two-dimensional form of carbon presents outstanding electronic and transport properties. This gives hope for the development of applications in nanoelectronics. However, for industrial purpose, graphene has to be supported by a substrate. We focus here on the graphene-on-SiC system to discuss how the SiC substrate interacts with the graphene layer and to show the effect of the interface on graphene atomic and electronic structures.
Two-dimensional semiconductors are structurally ideal channel materials for the ultimate atomic electronics after silicon era. A long-standing puzzle is the low carrier mobility (μ) in them as compared with corresponding bulk structures, which constitutes the main hurdle for realizing high-performance devices. To address this issue, we perform combined experimental and theoretical study on atomically thin MoS2 field effect transistors with varying the number of MoS2 layers (NLs). Experimentally, an intimate relation is observed with a 10-fold degradation in μ for extremely thinned monolayer ch…
We study in detail, by experimental measurements, atomistic simulations and DFT transport calculations, the process of formation and the resulting electronic properties of atomic-sized contacts made of Au, Ag and Cu. Our novel approaches to the data analysis of both experimental results and simulations, lead to a precise relationship between geometry and electronic transmission. We reestablish the significant influence of the number of first neighbors on the electronic properties of atomic-sized contacts. Our results allow us also to interpret subtle differences between the metals during the p…
The fabrication of atomically precise structures with designer electronic properties is one of the emerging topics in condensed matter physics. The required level of structural control can either be reached through atomic manipulation using the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) or by bottom-up chemical synthesis. In this review, we focus on recent progress in constructing novel, atomically precise artificial materials: artificial lattices built through atom manipulation and graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) realized by on-surface synthesis. We summarize the required theoretical background…
The electronic and thermoelectric properties of one to four monolayers of MoS$_{2}$, MoSe$_{2}$, WS$_{2}$, and WSe$_{2}$ are calculated. For few layer thicknesses, the near degeneracies of the conduction band $K$ and $Σ$ valleys and the valence band $Γ$ and $K$ valleys enhance the n-type and p-type thermoelectric performance. The interlayer hybridization and energy level splitting determine how the number of modes within $k_BT$ of a valley minimum changes with layer thickness. In all cases, the maximum ZT coincides with the greatest near-degeneracy within $k_BT$ of the band edge that results in…
Inspired by nature, we investigate the short-range order effect on the physical properties of amorphous materials. Amorphous Al2O3 thin films exhibit a higher proportion of their 4-coordinated Al sites close to the surface, causing variations in the average short-range order of the film. Below some thickness, the density of these films changes with size. In this work, we address the short-range order effect, through the thickness, on the electronic and optical properties of atomic layer deposited (ALD) Al2O3 thin films. Both the refractive index and the permittivity were found to vary with siz…
We report an atomically-resolved scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) investigation of the edges of graphene grains synthesized on Cu foils by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Most of the edges are macroscopically parallel to the zigzag directions of graphene lattice. These edges have microscopic roughness that is found to also follow zigzag directions at atomic scale, displaying many ~120 degree turns. A prominent standing wave pattern with periodicity ~3a/4 (a being the graphene lattice constant) is observed near a rare-occurring armchair-oriented edge. Observed features of this wave pattern …
We use real-time reflection high energy electron diffraction intensity oscillation to establish the Te-rich growth dynamics of topological insulator thin films of Bi2Te3 on Si(111) substrate by molecular beam epitaxy. In situ angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), scanning tunneling microscopy and ex situ transport measurements reveal that the as-grown Bi2Te3 films without any doping are an intrinsic topological insulator with its Fermi level intersecting only the metallic surface states. Experimentally, we find that the single-Dirac-cone surface state develops at a thickness of tw…
We investigate the electronic structure of tungsten ditelluride (WTe$_2$) flakes with different thicknesses in magneto-transport studies. The temperature-dependent resistance and magnetoresistance (MR) measurements both confirm the breaking of carrier balance induced by thickness reduction, which suppresses the `turn-on' behavior and large positive MR. The Shubnikov-de-Haas oscillation studies further confirm the thickness-dependent change of electronic structure of WTe$_2$ and reveal a possible temperature-sensitive electronic structure change. Finally, we report the thickness-dependent aniso…
In this paper, a method is presented to create and characterize mechanically robust, free standing, ultrathin, oxide films with controlled, nanometer-scale thickness using Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) on graphene. Aluminum oxide films were deposited onto suspended graphene membranes using ALD. Subsequent etching of the graphene left pure aluminum oxide films only a few atoms in thickness. A pressurized blister test was used to determine that these ultrathin films have a Young's modulus of 154 \pm 13 GPa. This Young's modulus is comparable to much thicker alumina ALD films. This behavior indic…
The non-centrosymmetric semiconductor BiTeI exhibits two distinct surface terminations that support spin-split Rashba surface states. Their ambipolarity can be exploited for creating spin-polarized $p$-$n$ junctions at the boundaries between domains with different surface terminations. We use scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) to locate such junctions and investigate their atomic and electronic properties. The Te- and I-terminated surfaces are identified owing to their distinct chemical reactivity, and an apparent height mismatch of electronic origin. The Rashba surface state…
Understanding static and dynamic phenomena in complex materials at different length scales requires reliably accounting for van der Waals (vdW) interactions, which stem from long-range electronic correlations. While the important role of many-body vdW interactions has been extensively documented when it comes to the stability of materials, much less is known about the coupling between vdW interactions and atomic forces. Here we analyze the Hessian force response matrix for a single and two vdW-coupled atomic chains to show that a many-body description of vdW interactions yields atomic force re…
Ab-initio quantum transport calculations show that short NiO chains suspended in Ni nanocontacts present a very strong spin-polarization of the conductance. The generalized gradient approximation we use here predicts a similiar polarization of the conductance as the one previously computed with non-local exchange, confirming the robustness of the result. Their use as nanoscopic spinvalves is proposed.
In this work, we demonstrate enhancement-mode field-effect transistors by atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) amorphous In2O3 channel with thickness down to 0.7 nm. Thickness is found to be critical on the materials and electron transport of In2O3. Controllable thickness of In2O3 at atomic scale enables the design of sufficient 2D carrier density in the In2O3 channel integrated with the conventional dielectric. The threshold voltage and channel carrier density are found to be considerably tuned by channel thickness. Such phenomenon is understood by the trap neutral level (TNL) model where the Fermi-l…
The atomic structure and physical properties of few-layered <111> oriented diamond nanocrystals (diamanes), covered by hydrogen atoms from both sides are studied using electronic band structure calculations. It was shown that energy stability linear increases upon increasing of the thickness of proposed structures. All 2D carbon films display direct dielectric band gaps with nonlinear quantum confinement response upon the thickness. Elastic properties of diamanes reveal complex dependence upon increasing of the number of <111> layers. All theoretical results were compared with available experi…
Surface defects created and probed with scanning tunneling microscopes are a promising platform for atomic-scale electronics and quantum information technology applications. Using first-principles calculations we demonstrate how to engineer dangling bond (DB) defects on hydrogenated Si(100) surfaces, which give rise to isolated impurity states that can be used in atomic-scale devices. In particular we show that sample thickness and biaxial strain can serve as control parameters to design the electronic properties of DB defects. While in thick Si samples the neutral DB state is resonant with bu…
Si dangling bonds without H termination at the interface of quasi-free standing monolayer graphene (QFMLG) are known scattering centers that can severely affect carrier mobility. In this report, we study the atomic and electronic structure of Si dangling bonds in QFMLG using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Two types of defects with different contrast were observed on a flat terrace by STM and AFM. Their STM contrast varies with bias voltage. In STS, they showed characteristic …
Growth, electronic and magnetic properties of $γ'$-Fe$_{4}$N atomic layers on Cu(001) are studied by scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy and x-ray absorption spectroscopy/magnetic circular dichroism. A continuous film of ordered trilayer $γ'$-Fe$_{4}$N is obtained by Fe deposition under N$_{2}$ atmosphere onto monolayer Fe$_{2}$N/Cu(001), while the repetition of a bombardment with 0.5 keV N$^{+}$ ions during growth cycles results in imperfect bilayer $γ'$-Fe$_{4}$N. The increase in the sample thickness causes the change of the surface electronic structure, as well as the enhancement in …
The electronic properties of the cleavage InAs(110) surface are studied using a semi-empirical tight-binding method which employs an extended atomic-like basis set. We calculate the surface electronic band structure which is studied as a function of the structural parameters of the surface. We describe and discuss the electronic character of the surface electronic states and we compare with other theoretical approaches, and with experimental observations. Finally, we discuss which atomic model better resembles the available experimental data.
Transition metal perovskite oxides display a variety of emergent phenomena which are tunable by tailoring the oxygen octahedral rotation. SrRuO$_3$, a ferromagnetic perovskite oxide, is well-known to have various atomic structures and octahedral rotations when grown as thin films. However, how the electronic structure changes with the film thickness has been hardly studied. Here, by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and electron diffraction techniques, we study the electronic structure of SrRuO$_3$ thin films as a function of the film thickness. Different reconstructed electronic…
Combining GGA-plane wave approach as implemented into the VASP - 4.6.19 computer code with a slab model, we studied in detail the atomic and electronic structure of the LaMnO3 surfaces, in both cubic and orthorhombic phases. The results obtained are compared with similar studies for other ABO3-perovskites.
Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has recently gained a strong interest as a strategic component in engineering van der Waals heterostructures built with two dimensional crystals such as graphene. This work reports micro-Raman measurements on hBN flakes made of a few atomic layers, prepared by mechanical exfoliation. The temperature dependence of the Raman scattering in hBN is investigated first such as to define appropriate measurements conditions suitable for thin layers avoiding undesirable heating induced effects. We further focus on the low frequency Raman mode corresponding to the rigid shea…
We have investigated the atomically-resolved substrate and homoepitaxial thin film surfaces of SrTiO3(001) using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) combined with pulsed laser deposition (PLD). It was found that annealing at 1000 oC in an oxygen partial pressure of 1*10-6 Torr, which is a typical annealing treatment for the preparation of SrTiO3 substrates, unexpectedly resulted in a disordered surface on an atomic scale. In contrast, homoepitaxial SrTiO3 thin films grown on this disordered substrate exhibited (2*2) surface reconstructions. The differential con…
In this work, we demonstrate scaled back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible indium oxide (In2O3) transistors by atomic layer deposition (ALD) with channel thickness (Tch) of 1.0-1.5 nm, channel length (Lch) down to 40 nm, and equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) of 2.1 nm, with record high drain current of 2.0 A/mm at VDS of 0.7 V among all oxide semiconductors. Enhancement-mode In2O3 transistors with ID over 1.0 A/mm at VDS of 1 V are also achieved by controlling the channel thickness down to 1.0 nm at atomic layer scale. Such high current density in a relatively low mobility amorphous oxide semicondu…
We investigate the influence of slab thickness on the electronic structure of the Si(100)-p(2x2) surface in density functional theory (DFT) calculations, considering both density of states and band structure. Our calculations, with slab thicknesses of up to 78 atomic layers, reveal that the slab thickness profoundly affects the surface band structure, particularly the dangling bond states of the silicon dimers near the Fermi level. We find that, to precisely reproduce the surface bands, the slab thickness needs to be large enough to completely converge the bulk bands in the slab. In case of th…
We present the results of first-principles calculations on two possible terminations of the (001) surfaces of SrTiO3 (STO), BaTiO3 (BTO), and PbTiO3 (PTO) perovskite crystals. Atomic structure and the electronic configurations were calculated for different 2D slabs, both stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric, using hybrid (B3PW) exchange-correlation technique and reoptimized basis sets of atomic (Gaussian) orbitals. Results are compared with previous calculations and available experimental data. The electronic density distribution near the surface and covalency effects are discussed in details…
Three new single-atom-thick silicon-carbon stable systems have been found by using of SCED-LCAO and DFT methods. An important position, named bone position, is proposed in these structures. For SiC and Si1C9 system, the bone positions are partially occupied by Si atoms, the plane structure is kept and electronic gap is opened with 0.955 eV and 0.689 eV respectively. For Si2C8 system, the bone positions are fully occupied by Si atoms. It shows a buckled structure with a buckling of 0.05 Å and a Dirac cone at M point. Moreover, the sp hybridization between Si and C atoms in SiC system is found a…
The atomic models of nanotubes for layered FeSe, LiFeAs, SrFe2As2, and LnFeAsO - the parent phases of so-called 11, 111, 122, and 1111 groups of newly discovered family of iron-based high temperature superconductors are proposed. On example of SrFe2As2 the electronic properties of predicted nanotubes are examined and discussed in comparison with those for the corresponding single layer and the crystal.
We study the thickness dependence of the electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of a NiPS$_3$ thin film, an antiferromagnetic charge-transfer insulator. Utilizing state-of-the-art advanced density functionals, we find the antiferromagnetic Zig-Zag order, the band gap, and the main peaks in the dielectric tensor are all in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values. Upon thinning, the Zig-Zag antiferromagnetic order becomes virtually degenerate with a competing Néel order, consistent with the suppression of long-range order observed by Raman spectroscopy due to strong magne…
Due to the strong lattice-property relationships which exist in complex oxide epitaxial layers, their electronic and magnetic properties can be modulated by structural distortions induced at the atomic scale. The modification and control can be affected at coherent heterointerfaces by epitaxial strain imposed by the substrate or by structural modifications to accommodate the film-substrate symmetry mismatch. Often these act in conjunction with a strong dependence on the layer thickness, especially for ultrathin layers. Moreover, as a result of these effects, the temperature dependence of the s…
The exceptional electronic, optical and chemical properties of two-dimensional materials strongly depend on the 3D atomic structure and crystal defects. Using Re-doped MoS2 as a model, here we develop scanning atomic electron tomography (sAET) to determine the 3D atomic positions and crystal defects such as dopants, vacancies and ripples with a precision down to 4 picometers. We measure the 3D bond distortion and local strain tensor induced by single dopants for the first time. By directly providing experimental 3D atomic coordinates to density functional theory (DFT), we obtain more truthful …
In order to continue to improve integrated circuit performance and functionality, scaled transistors with short channel lengths and low thickness are needed. But the further scaling of silicon-based devices and the development of alternative semiconductor channel materials that are compatible with current fabrication processes is challenging. Here we report atomic-layer-deposited indium oxide transistors with channel lengths down to 8 nm, channel thicknesses down to 0.5 nm and equivalent dielectric oxide thickness down to 0.84 nm. Due to the scaled device dimensions and low contact resistance,…
We show the merits of plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) of catalytic substrate for chemical vapour deposition (CVD) graphene growth. The high quality multilayer graphene (MLG) on molybdenum carbide ($MoC_{x}$) thin film exhibits excellent uniformity and layer homogeneity over a large area. Moreover, we demonstrate how to achieve control of graphene layers thickness and properties, by varying the specific catalytic film chemical and physical properties. The control of growth is not digital, but is broad ranged from few layer graphene to a graphitic film of $\sim{75}$ graphene laye…
Using ab-initio calculations within the framework of Density Functional Theory (DFT), atomic structures and electronic properties of MoS2/HfO2 interface are investigated. The impact of interfacial oxygen concentration on the MoS2/HfO2 interface electronic structure is examined in order to mimic the atomic layer deposition growth at ambient conditions. Then, the effect on band offsets and the thermodynamic stability of those interfaces is investigated and compared with available relevant experimental data. These results seem to indicate that, for a well-prepared interface, the electronic device…
Ultrafast electronic dynamics in solids lies at the core of modern condensed matter and materials physics. To build up a practical ab initio method for studying solids under photoexcitation, we develop a momentum-resolved real-time time dependent density functional theory (rt-TDDFT)algorithm using numerical atomic basis, together with the implementation of both the length and vector gauge of the electromagnetic field. When applied to simulate elementary excitations in two-dimensional materials such as graphene, different excitation modes, only distinguishable in momentum space, are observed. T…
Atomic layer deposition of ultrathin HfO2 on unmodified graphene from HfCl4 and H2O was investigated. Surface RMS roughness down to 0.5 nm was obtained for amorphous, 30 nm thick hafnia film grown at 180 degrees C. HfO2 was deposited also in a two-step temperature process where the initial growth of about 1 nm at 170 degrees C was continued up to 10-30 nm at 300 degrees C. This process yielded uniform, monoclinic HfO2 films with RMS roughness of 1.7 nm for 10-12 nm thick films and 2.5 nm for 30 nm thick films. Raman spectroscopy studies revealed that the deposition process caused compressive b…
We calculate the electronic and atomic structure of (MnO)n (n=1-4) using the HF exchange, VWN, PBE and B3LYP exchange-correlation functionals. We also perform diffusion Monte Carlo calculation to evaluate more accurate energies. We ompare these results and discuss the accuracy of the exchange-correlation functionals.
A quantitative descriptor of local atomic environments is often required for the analysis of atomistic data. Descriptors of the local atomic environment ideally provide physically and chemically intuitive insight. This requires descriptors that are low-dimensional representations of the interplay between atomic geometry and electronic bond formation. The moments of the local density of states (DOS) relate the atomic structure to the electronic structure and bond chemistry. This makes it possible to construct electronic structure based descriptors of the local atomic environment that have an im…
When thinned down to the atomic scale, many layered van der Waals materials exhibit an interesting evolution of their electronic properties, whose main aspects can be accounted for by changes in the single-particle band structure. Phenomena driven by interactions are also observed, but identifying experimentally systematic trends in their thickness dependence is challenging. Here, we explore the evolution of gate-induced superconductivity in exfoliated MoS2 multilayers ranging from bulk-like to individual monolayers. We observe a clear transition for all the thicknesses down to the ultimate at…
First-principles calculations of the effect of carbon coverage on the atomic, electronic and magnetic structure of nickel and iron substrates demonstrate insignificant changes in the interatomic distances and magnetic moments on the atoms of the metallic substrates. The coverage of the iron surface by mono- and few-layer graphene induces significant changes in the orbital occupancies and exchange interactions between the layers in contrast to the case of a nickel substrate for which changes in the orbital ordering and exchange interactions are much smaller. Experimental measurements demonstrat…
Using empirical scheme, atomic structure of a new exotic class of silicon nanoclusters was elaborated upon the central icosahedral core (Si-IC) and pentagonal petals (Si-PP) growing from Si-IC vertexes. It was shown that Si-IC/Si-PP interface formation is energetically preferable. Some experimental observations of silicon nanostructures can be explained by presence of the proposed objects. The Extended Huckel Theory electronic structure calculations demonstrate an ability of the proposed objects to act as nanoscale tunnel junctions.
Through ${in~situ}$ photoemission spectroscopy, we investigated the change in the electronic and crystal structures of dimensionality-controlled VO$_2$ films coherently grown on TiO$_2$(001) substrates. In the nanostructured films, the balance between the instabilities of a bandlike Peierls transition and a Mott transition is controlled as a function of thickness. The characteristic spectral change associated with temperature-driven metal-insulator transition in VO$_2$ thick films holds down to 1.5 nm (roughly corresponding to five V atoms along the [001] direction), whereas VO$_2$ films of le…
One-dimensional (1D) materials have attracted significant research interest due to their unique quantum confinement effects and edge-related properties. Atomically thin 1D nanoribbon is particularly interesting because it is a valuable platform with physical limits of both thickness and width. Here, we develop a catalyst-free growth method and achieves the growth of Bi2O2Se nanostructures with tunable dimensionality. Significantly, Bi2O2Se nanoribbons with thickness down to 0.65 nm, corresponding to monolayer, are successfully grown for the first time. Electrical and optoelectronic measurement…
We present an efficient scheme for accurate electronic structure interpolations based on the systematically improvable optimized atomic orbitals. The atomic orbitals are generated by minimizing the spillage value between the atomic basis calculations and the converged plane wave basis calculations on some coarse $k$-point grid. They are then used to calculate the band structure of the full Brillouin zone using the linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) algorithms. We find that usually 16 -- 25 orbitals per atom can give an accuracy of about 10 meV compared to the full {\it ab initio} cal…
Quantitative atom counting of Zn and O atoms in zinc oxide(ZnO)epitaxial thin film by three different routes; reconstruction of phase from side and central band of atomic resolution off-axis and in-line electron holography are presented. It is found that the reconstructed phase from both side and central band and corresponding atom number for both Zn (Z = 30) and O (Z = 8) atom columns are in close agreement along with the systematic increase in thickness for thinner sample area. However, complete disagreement is observed for the thicker sample area. On the other hand, the reconstructed phase ob…
Density functional methods have been used to calculate the electronic properties of aligned smalldiameter single-walled carbon nanotubes under hydrostatic pressures. Abrupt pressure induced semiconductor-metal and metal-semiconductor transitions concomitant with changes in structure are observed. Novel and unexpected unit cell nanotube cross-sections are found. These tubes are observed to form interlinking structures at very high pressures. The large changes in electronic structure and the ability of different small diameter nanotubes to respond in different pressure regimes suggest their use …
Atomic-scale precision epitaxy of perovskite oxide superlattices provides unique opportunities for controlling the correlated electronic structures, activating effective control knobs for intriguing functionalities including electromagnetic, thermoelectric, and electrocatalytic behaviors. In this study, we investigated the close interplay between the atomic and electronic structures of correlated superlattices synthesized by atomic-scale precision epitaxy. In particular, we employ superlattices composed of correlated magnetic SrRuO3 (SRO) and quantum paraelectric SrTiO3 (STO) layers. In those …
