In this paper, we give an introduction for rough groups and rough homomorphisms. Then we present some properties related to topological rough subgroups and rough subsets. We construct the product of topological rough groups and give an illustrated example. Then, we define topological rough group homomorphisms and topological rough group homeomorphisms. Finally, we introduce a rough action, a rough homogenous space and a rough kernel.
Let $(U, R)$ be an approximation space with $U$ being non-empty set and $R$ being an equivalence relation on $U$, and let $\overline{G}$ and $\underline{G}$ be the upper approximation and the lower approximation of subset $G$ of $U$. A topological rough group $G$ is a rough group $G=(\underline{G}, \overline{G})$ endowed with a topology, which is induced from the upper approximation space $\overline{G}$, such that the product mapping $f: G\times G\rightarrow \overline{G}$ and the inverse mapping are continuous. In the class of topological rough groups, the relations of some separation axioms a…
We define the notion of rough Cayley graph for compactly generated locally compact groups in terms of quasi-actions. We construct such a graph for any compactly generated locally compact group using quasi-lattices and show uniqueness up to quasi-isometry. A class of examples is given by the Cayley graphs of cocompact lattices in compactly generated groups. As an application, we show that a compactly generated group has polynomial growth if and only if its rough Cayley graph has polynomial growth (same for intermediate and exponential growth). Moreover, a unimodular compactly generated group is…
The theory of rough sets was firstly introduced by Pawlak (see \cite{p}). Many Mathematician has been studied the relations between rough sets and algebraic systems such as groups, rings and modules. In this paper we will introduce the lower and upper approximations in a quotient group. We will discuss several properties of the lower and upper approximations. Moreover under some additional assumptions we are able to show that the lower approximation is a normal subgroup of the quotient group but this property fails for the upper approximation. At the end we will develop several homomorphisms b…
We present a variation of quasi-isometry to approach the problem of defining a geometric notion equivalent to commensurability. In short, this variation can be summarized as "quasi-isometry with uniform parameters for a large enough family of generating systems". Two similar notions (using isometries and rough isometries instead, respectively) are presented alongside. This article is based mainly on a chapter of the author's doctoral thesis (\cite{Lochmann_dissertation}).
If $G$ is a group of permutations of a set $Ω$, then the suborbits of $G$ are the orbits of point-stabilisers $G_α$ acting on $Ω$. The cardinalities of these suborbits are the subdegrees of $G$. Every infinite primitive permutation group $G$ with finite subdegrees acts faithfully as a group of automorphisms of a locally-finite connected vertex-primitive directed graph $Γ$ with vertex set $Ω$, and there is consequently a natural action of $G$ on the ends of $Γ$. We show that if $G$ is closed in the permutation topology of pointwise convergence, then the structure of $G$ is determined by the len…
Topological full groups originated from the theory of topological dynamical systems and have been having considerable impact on group theory in recent years. This text represents an introduction/survey on topological full groups. After development of the theoretical and historical background, it gives an account of their significance in topological dynamics and discusses their group theoretical aspects.
This paper is devoted to the study of the group ${\rm Ext} (G,H)$ of all extensions of topological abelian groups $0\to H\to X\to G\to 0$ and the group ${\rm Ext}_{TVS} (Z,Y)$ of all extensions of topological vector spaces $0\to Y\to X\to Z\to 0$. We focus on their behaviour under taking products, countable coproducts, dense subgroups and open subgroups. Finally, we apply the obtained properties to formulate in a more general setting some known results in the category of locally compact abelian groups and to determine conditions in which being a topological vector space is a three space proper…
We consider Lie groups that are either Heintze groups or Sol-type groups, which generalize the three-dimensional Lie group SOL. We prove that all left-invariant Riemannian metrics on each such a Lie group are roughly similar via the identity. This allows us to reformulate in a common framework former results by Le Donne-Xie, Eskin-Fisher-Whyte, Carrasco Piaggio, and recent results of Ferragut and Kleiner-Müller-Xie, on quasiisometries of these solvable groups.
We consider the topological full group of a substitution subshift induced by a substitution $a\to aca$, $b\to d$, $c\to b$, $d\to c$. This group is interesting since the Grigorchuk group naturally embeds into it. We show that the topological full group is finitely generated and give a simple generating set for it.
We study algebraic and topological properties of subsemigroups of the hyperspace exp(G) of non-empty compact subsets of a topological group G endowed with the Vietoris topology and the natural semigroup operation. On this base we prove that a compact Clifford topological semigroup S is topologically isomorphic to a subsemigroup of exp(G) for a suitable topological group G if and only if S is a topological inverse semigroup with zero-dimensional idempotent semilattice.
We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions when a pseudocompact paratopological group is topological. (2-)pseudocompact and countably compact paratopological groups that are not topological are constructed. It is proved that each 2-pseudocompact paratopological group is pseudocompact and that each Hausdorff σ-compact pseudocompact paratopological group is a compact topological group. Our particular attention is devoted to periodic and topologically periodic pseudocompact paratopological groups.
We consider a finitely generated group acting minimally on a compact space by homeomorphsims, and assume that the Schreier graph of at least one orbit is quasi-isometric to a line. We show that the topological full group of such an action is amenable.
We prove a Tits alternative for topological full groups of minimal actions of finitely generated groups. On the one hand, we show that topological full groups of minimal actions of virtually cyclic groups are amenable. By doing so, we generalize the result of Juschenko and Monod for $\mathbf{Z}$-actions. On the other hand, when a finitely generated group $G$ is not virtually cyclic, then we construct a minimal free action of $G$ on a Cantor space such that the topological full group contains a non-abelian free group.
Various connections between the theory of permutation groups and the theory of topological groups are described. These connections are applied in permutation group theory and in the structure theory of topological groups. The first draft of these notes was written for lectures at the conference Totally disconnected groups, graphs and geometry in Blaubeuren, Germany, 2007.
We clarify the structure of nilpotent Lie groups which are multiplication groups of $3$-dimensional simply connected topological loops and prove that non-solvable Lie groups acting minimally on $3$-dimensional manifolds cannot be the multiplication group of $3$-dimensional topological loops. Among the nilpotent Lie groups for any filiform groups ${\mathcal F}_{n+2}$ and ${\mathcal F}_{m+2}$ with $n, m > 1$, the direct product ${\mathcal F}_{n+2} \times \mathbb R$ and the direct product ${\mathcal F}_{n+2} \times _Z {\mathcal F}_{m+2}$ with amalgamated center $Z$ occur as the multiplication gro…
Near-openly generated groups are introduced. It is a topological and multiplicative subclass of $\mathbb R$-factorizable groups. Dense and open subgroups, quotients and Raikov completion of a near-openly generated group are near-openly generated. Almost connected pro-Lie groups, lindel\" off almost metrizable groups and the spaces $C_p(X)$ of all continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonoff space $X$ with pointwise convergence topology are near-openly generated. We provide characterizations of near-openly generated groups using methods of inverse spectra and topological game theory.
This is the first of a series of two papers dealing with local limit theorems in relatively hyperbolic groups. In this first paper, we prove rough estimates for the Green function. Along the way, we introduce the notion of relative automaticity which will be useful in both papers and we show that relatively hyperbolic groups are relatively automatic. We also define the notion of spectral positive-recurrence for random walks on relatively hy-perbolic groups. We then use our estimates for the Green function to prove that $p_n \asymp R^n n^{-3/2}$ for spectrally positive-recurrent random walks, w…
We consider a few types of bounded homomorphisms on a topological group. These classes of bounded homomorphisms are, in a sense, weaker than the class of continuous homomorphisms. We show that with appropriate topologies each class of these homomorphisms on a complete topological group forms a complete topological group.
A topological group $X$ is called $duoseparable$ if there exists a countable set $S\subseteq X$ such that $SUS=X$ for any neighborhood $U\subseteq X$ of the unit. We construct a functor $F$ assigning to each (abelian) topological group $X$ a duoseparable (abelain-by-cyclic) topological group $FX$, containing an isomorphic copy of $X$. In fact, the functor $F$ is defined on the category of unital topologized magmas. Also we prove that each $σ$-compact locally compact abelian topological group embeds into a duoseparable locally compact abelian-by-countable topological group.
In this paper, we pose the concepts of pre-topological groups and some generalizations of pre-topological groups. First, we systematically investigate some basic properties of pre-topological groups; in particular, we prove that each $T_{0}$ pre-topological group is regular and every almost topological group is completely regular which extends A.A. Markov's theorem to the class of almost topological groups. Moreover, it is shown that an almost topological group is $τ$-narrow if and only if it can be embedded as a subgroup of a pre-topological product of almost topological groups of weight less…
Locally solid Riesz spaces have been widely investigated in the past several decades; but locally solid topological lattice-ordered groups seem to be largely unexplored. The paper is an attempt to initiate a relatively systematic study of locally solid topological lattice-ordered groups. We give both Robert-Namioka-type characterization and Fremlin-type characterization of locally solid topological lattice-ordered groups. In particular, we show that a group topology on a lattice-ordered group is locally solid if and only if it is generated by a family of translation-invariant lattice pseudomet…
In this note for a topological group $G$, we introduce a bounded subset of $G$ and we find some relationships of this definition with other topological properties of $G$.
We give a "limit-free formula" simplifying the computation of the topological entropy for topological automorphisms of totally disconnected locally compact groups. This result allows us to extend several basic properties of the topological entropy known to hold for compact groups.
Given a Tychonoff space $X$, let $F(X)$ and $A(X)$ be respectively the free topological group and the free Abelian topological group over $X$ in the sense of Markov. In this paper, we provide some topological properties of $X$ whenever one of $F(X)$, $A(X)$, some finite level of $F(X)$ and some finite level of $A(X)$ is $q$-space (in particular, locally $ω$-bounded spaces and $r$-spaces), which give some partial answers to a problem posed in [11].
We prove that commutator subgroups of topological full groups arising from minimal subshifts have exponential growth. We also prove that the measurable full group associated to the countable, measure-preserving, ergodic and hyperfinite equivalence relation is topologically generated by two elements.
We describe generators and defining relations for the commutator subgroup of topological full groups of minimal subshifts. We show that the word problem in a topological full group is solvable if and only if the language of the underlying subshift is recursive.
We discuss various modifications of separability, precompactnmess and narrowness in topological groups and test those modifications in the permutation groups $S(X)$ and $S_{<ω}(X)$.
A topological space is reversible if each continuous bijection of it onto itself is open. We introduce an analogue of this notion in the category of topological groups: A topological group G is g-reversible if every continuous automorphism of G (=continuous isomorphism of G onto itself) is open. The class of g-reversible groups contains Polish groups, locally compact sigma-compact groups, minimal groups, abelian groups with the Bohr topology, and reversible topological groups. We prove that subgroups of R^n are g-reversible, for every positive integer n. An example of a compact (so reversible)…
We investigate the universal cover of a topological group that is not necessarily connected. Its existence as a topological group is governed by a Taylor cocycle, an obstruction in 3-cohomology. Alternatively, it always exists as a topological 2-group. The splitness of this 2-group is also governed by an obstruction in 3-cohomology, a Sinh cocycle. We give explicit formulas for both obstructions and show that they are inverse of each other.
We define a metric ultraproduct of topological groups with left-invariant metric, and show that there is a countable sequence of finite groups with left-invariant metric whose metric ultraproduct contains isometrically as a subgroup every separable topological group with left-invariant metric. In particular, there is a countable sequence of finite groups with left-invariant metric such that every finite subset of an arbitrary topological group with left-invariant metric may be approximated by all but finitely many of them. We compare our results with related concepts such as sofic groups, hype…
In this note, we show that the category of strongly central series admits co-induced actions, which means that it is Locally Algebraically Cartesian Closed. We also show that some co-induction functors exist in the category of topological groups, and that a convenient category of topological groups is LACC.
