For a real parameter $r$, the RSA integers are integers which can be written as the product of two primes $pq$ with $p<q\leq rp$, which are named after the importance of products of two primes in the RSA-cryptography. Several authors obtained the asymptotic formulas of the number of the RSA integers. However, the previous results on the number of the RSA integers were valid only in a rather restricted range of the parameter $r$. Dummit, Granville, and Kisilevsky found some bias in the distribution of products of two primes with congruence conditions. Moree and the first author studied some similar bias in the RSA integers, but they proved that at least for fixed $r$, there is no such bias. In this paper, we provide an asymptotic formula for the number of the RSA integers available in wider ranges of $r$, and give some observations of the bias of the RSA integers, by interpolating the results of Dummit, Granville, and Kisilevsky and of Moree and the first author.
We prove an isomorphism between the finite domain from 1 up to the product of the first n primes and the new defined set of prime modular numbers. This definition provides some insights about relative prime numbers. We provide an inverse function from the prime modular numbers into this finite domain. With this function we can calculate all numbers from 1 up to the product of the first n primes that are not divisible by the first n primes. This function provides a non sequential way for the calculation of prime numbers.
We establish estimates for the number of ways to represent any reduced residue class as a product of a prime and an integer free of small prime factors. Our best results is conditional on the Generalised Riemann hypothesis (GRH). As a corollary, we make progress on a conjecture of Erdös, Odlyzko and Sárközy.
In this paper we prove that the $ζ$-regularized product over all primes is $πe^μ$, where $μ$ is closely related with the non-trivial zeros of the $ζ(s)$.
We present lower bounds on the sum and product of the distinct prime factors of an odd perfect number, which provide a lower bound on the size of the odd perfect number as a function of the number of its distinct prime factors.
It is known that the sum of the reciprocal of integers, $\sum_n (1/n)$, and the sum of the reciprocal of primes, $\sum_n (1/p_n)$, both diverge. Here, we study a series made from primes that sums exactly to 1. We also show this sum is simply related to an infinite product over primes. We then generalize the form of the series (and its related product), extending this idea to other number theoretic sets such as twin primes. Evaluating a product made from twin primes gives a new mathematical constant.
We show two asymmetric estimates, one on the number of collinear triples and the other on that of solutions to $(a_1+a_2)(a_1^{\prime\prime\prime}+a_2^{\prime\prime\prime})=(a_1^\prime+a_2^\prime)(a_1^{\prime\prime}+a_2^{\prime\prime})$. As applications, we improve results on difference-product/division estimates and on Balog-Wooley decomposition: For any finite subset $A$ of $\mathbb{R}$, \[ \max\{|A-A|,|AA|\} \gtrsim |A|^{1+105/347},\quad \max\{|A-A|,|A/A|\} \gtrsim |A|^{1+15/49}. \] Moreover, there are sets $B,C$ with $A=B\sqcup C$ such that \[ \max\{E^+(B),\, E^\times (C)\} \lesssim |A|^{3…
Let $r \ge 2$ be an integer. We adapt the Maynard-Tao sieve to produce the asymptotically best-known bounded gaps between products of $r$ distinct primes. Our result applies to positive-density subsets of the primes that satisfy certain equidistribution conditions. This improves on the work of Thorne and Sono.
We obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of ways to represent every reduced residue class as a product of a prime and square-free integer. This may be considered as a relaxed version of a conjecture of Erdös, Odlyzko, and Sárközy.
We show that the product of two consecutive Fibonacci (respectively Lucas) numbers is divisible by the sum of their indices if this sum is a prime number different from 5 and in the form (4r+1)(respectively (4r+3)).
We show that for any irrational $α$ and any $τ<8/23$ there are infinitely many $n$ which are the product of two primes for which $$\|nα\|\leq n^{-τ}.$$ We also show that for all sufficiently large $b$ there exist 3-digit palindromes in base $b$ with precisely two prime factors.
If n is a positive integer, let h(n) denote the maximal value of the product of distinct primes whose sum does not exceed n. We give some properties of this function h and describe an algorithm able to compute h(n) for large values of n.
In this paper, we apply the method of Maynard and Tao to the set of products of two distinct primes (E2-numbers). We obtain several results on the distribution of E2-numbers and primes. Among others, the result of Goldston, Pintz, Yildirim and Graham on small gaps between m consecutive E2-numbers is improved.
We show that substantially more than a quarter of the odd integers of the form $pq$ up to $x$, with $p,q$ both prime, satisfy $p\equiv q\equiv 3 \pmod 4$.
We give several families of reasonably small integers $k, \ell \ge 1$ and real positive $α, β\le 1$, such that the products $p_1\ldots p_k s$, where $p_1, \ldots, p_k \le m^α$ are primes and $s \le m^β$ is a product of at most $\ell$ primes, represent all reduced residue classes modulo $m$. This is a relaxed version of the still open question of P. Erdos, A. M. Odlyzko and A. Sarkozy (1987), that corresponds to $k = \ell =1$ (that is, to products of two primes). In particular, we improve recent results of A. Walker (2016).
This note provides truncated formulae with explicit error terms to compute Euler products over primes in arithmetic progressions of rational fractions. It further provides such a formula for the product of terms of the shape $F(1/p, 1/p^s)$ when $F$ is a two-variable polynomial with coefficients in $\mathbb{C}$ and satisfying some restrictive conditions.
We establish a conjectured result of Dummit, Granville and Kisilevsky for the maximum bias in P2 races, which compare the number of P2's $\leq x$ whose prime factors, evaluated at a given quadratic character, take specifc values.
We study the existence of products of primes in arithmetic progressions, building on the work of Ramaré and Walker. One of our main results is that if $q$ is a large modulus, then any invertible residue class mod $q$ contains a product of three primes where each prime is at most $q^{6/5+ε}$. Our arguments use results from a wide range of areas, such as sieve theory or additive combinatorics, and one of our key ingredients, which has not been used in this setting before, is a result by Heath-Brown on character sums over primes from his paper on Linnik's theorem.
We estimate from below the lower density of the set of prime numbers p such that p-1 has a prime factor of size at least p^c, where c lies in between 1/4 and 1/2. We also establish upper and lower bounds on the counting function of the set of positive integers n up to x with exactly k prime factors, counted with or without multiplicity, such that the largest prime factor of gcd(p-1 : p | n) exceeds n^{1/2k}.
Let $α$ be a real number such that $1< α<2$ and let $x_0=x_0(α)$ be a {\rm(}unique{\rm)} positive solution of the equation $$ x^{α-1} -\fracπ{e^2\sqrt{3}}x +1=0. $$ Then we prove that for each positive integer $n>x_0$ there exist at least $[n^α]$ primes between the $(n+1)$th prime and the product of the first $n+1$ primes. In particular, we establish a recent Cooke's result which asserts that for each positive integer $n$ there are at least $n$ primes between the $(n+1)$th prime and the product of the first $n+1$ primes. Our proof is based on an elementary counting method (enumerative argument…
The aim of the present paper is to study the relations between the prime distribution and the zero distribution for generalized zeta functions which are expressed by Euler products and is analytically continued as meromorphic functions of finite order. In this paper, we give an inequality between the order of the zeta function as a meromorphic function and the growth of the multiplicity in the prime distribution.
For a radical extension K of odd prime degree the ring O_K of integers is constructed as a product of subrings with the following property: for all prime divisors q of the discriminant of O_K there is a q-maximal factor. The discriminant of O_K is the greatest common divisor of the discriminants of all factors. The results are applied to give a criterion for the monogeneity of K where the opposite is not true.
Let $F_p$ be the field of a prime order $p$. Then for any positive integer $n>1$, for any $ε>0$, and for any subset $A$ of $F_p$, every element of $F_p$ can be represented as a sum of $N$ elements, each of them is a product of $n$ elements from $A$, where $N$ depends on $n$ and $\espilon$.
A group of infinite products over low-order rational polynomials evaluated at the sequence of prime numbers is loosely called the Hardy-Littlewood constants. In this manuscript we look at them as factors embedded in a super-product over primes, semiprimes, 3-almost primes etc. Numerical tables are derived by transformation into series over k-almost prime zeta functions. Alternative product representations in a basis of k-almost prime products associated with Euler's formula for the Riemann zeta function are also pointed out.
Let q be a prime, A be a subset of a finite field $F=\Bbb Z/q\Bbb Z$, $|A|<\sqrt{|F|}$. We prove the estimate $\max(|A+A|,|A\cdot A|)\ge c|A|^{1+ε}$ for some $ε>0$ and c>0. This extends the result of J. Bourgain, N. Katz, and T. Tao.
We show that certain spaces of vector valued modular forms are isomorphic to spaces of scalar valued modular forms whose Fourier coefficients are supported on suitable progressions. As an application we give a very explicit description of Borcherds products on Hilbert modular surfaces.
We prove that, if $x$ and $q\leqslant x^{1/16}$ are two parameters, then for any invertible residue class $a$ modulo $q$ there exists a product of exactly three primes, each one below $x^{1/3}$, that is congruent to $a$ modulo $q$.
Under two assumptions, we determine the distribution of the difference between two functions each counting the numbers < x that are in a given arithmetic progression modulo q and the product of two primes. The two assumptions are (i) the Extended Riemann Hypothesis for Dirichlet L-functions modulo q, and (ii) that the imaginary parts of the nontrivial zeros of these L-functions are linearly independent over the rationals. Our results are analogs of similar results proved for primes in arithmetic progressions by Rubinstein and Sarnak. In particular, we show that the bias for products of two pri…
We prove several results regarding the distribution of numbers that are the product of a prime and a $k$-th power. First, we prove an asymptotic formula for the counting function of such numbers; this generalises a result of E. Cohen. We then show that the error term in this formula can be sharpened on the assumption of the Riemann hypothesis. Finally, we prove an asymptotic formula for these counting functions in short intervals.
For any $ε>0$, there exists $q_0(ε)$ such for any $q\ge q_0(ε)$ and any invertible residue class $a$ modulo $q$, there exists a natural number that is congruent to $a$ modulo $q$ and that is the product of exactly three primes, all of which are below $q^{\frac{3}{2}+ε}$. If we restrict our attention to odd moduli $q$ that do not have prime factors congruent to 1 mod 4, we can find such primes below $q^{\frac{11}{8}+ε}$. If we further restrict our set of moduli to prime $q$ that are such that $(q-1,4\cdot7\cdot11\cdot17\cdot23\cdot29)=2$, we can find such primes below $q^{\frac{6}{5}+ε}$. Final…
We find all elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ that have a rational point of order $N$, $N\ge 4$, and whose conductor is of the form $p^aq^b$, where p, q are two distinct primes, a, b are two positive integers. In particular, we prove that Szpiro's conjecture holds for these elliptic curves.
We study the gaps between products of two primes in imaginary quadratic number fields using a combination of the methods of Goldston-Graham-Pintz-Yildirim \cite{GGPY}, and Maynard \cite{MAY}. An important consequence of our main theorem is existence of infinitely many pairs $α_1, α_2$ which are product of two primes in the imaginary quadratic field $K$ such that $|σ(α_1-α_2)|\leq 2$ for all embedding $σ$ of $K$ if the class number of $K$ is one and $|σ(α_1-α_2)|\leq 8$ for all embedding $σ$ of $K$ if the class number of $K$ is two.
For $m\geq2$, let $F$ be a field of characteristic prime to $m$ and containing the roots of unity of order $m$, and let $G_F$ be its absolute Galois group. We show that the 3-fold Massey products $\langleχ_1,χ_2,χ_3\rangle$, with $χ_1,χ_2,χ_3\in H^1(G_F,\mathbb{Z}/m)$ and $χ_1,χ_3$ $\mathbb{Z}/m$-linearly independent, are non-essential. This was earlier proved for $m$ prime. Our proof is based on the study of unitriangular representations of $G_F$.
In this paper we extend the hybrid Euler-Hadamard product model for quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions associated to irreducible polynomials over function fields. We also establish an asymptotic formula for the first twisted moment in this family of L-functions and then we provide further evidence for the conjectural asymptotic formulas for its moments.
Let $q_n$ denote the $n^{th}$ number that is a product of exactly two distinct primes. We prove that $$\liminf_{n\to \infty} (q_{n+1}-q_n) \le 6.$$ This sharpens an earlier result of the authors (arXivMath NT/0506067), which had 26 in place of 6. More generally, we prove that if $ν$ is any positive integer, then $$ \liminf_{n\to \infty} (q_{n+ν}-q_n) \le C(ν) = νe^{ν-γ} (1+o(1)).$$ We also prove several other results on the representation of numbers with exactly two prime factors by linear forms.
Let c > 0.55. Every large n can be written in the form p +ab, where p is prime, a and b are significantly smaller than x^1/2 and ab is less than n^c. This strengthens a result of Heath-Brown, which has the requirement c>3/4. We introduce the idea of 'intersecting two sieves' as a tool in the proof of this result.
We study sums of Dirichlet characters over polynomials in $\mathbb{F}_q[t]$ with a prescribed number of irreducible factors. Our main results are explicit formulae for these sums in terms of zeros of Dirichlet L-functions. We also exhibit new phenomena concerning Chebyshev-type biases of such sums when the number of irreducible factors is very large.
We explicitly write down the Eisenstein elements inside the space of modular symbols for Eisenstein series with integer coefficients for the congruence subgroups Γ_0 (pq) with p and q distinct odd primes, giving an answer to a question of Merel in these cases. We also compute the winding elements explicitly for these congruence subgroups. Our results are explicit versions of the Manin-Drinfeld Theorem.
This paper is devoted to study some expressions of the type $\prod_{p} p^{\lfloor\frac{x}{f(p)}\rfloor}$, where $x$ is a nonnegative real number, $f$ is an arithmetic function satisfying some conditions, and the product is over the primes $p$. We begin by proving that such expressions can be expressed by using the $\mathrm{lcm}$ function, without any reference to prime numbers; we illustrate this result with several examples. The rest of the paper is devoted to study the two particular cases related to $f(m) = m$ and $f(m) = m - 1$. In both cases, we found arithmetic properties and analytic es…
We prove a version of the Bombieri--Vinogradov Theorem with certain products of Gaussian primes as moduli, making use of their special form as polynomial expressions in several variables. Adapting Vaughan's proof of the classical Bombieri--Vinogadov Theorem to this setting, we apply the polynomial large sieve inequality that has been recently proved and which includes recent progress in Vinogradov's mean value theorem due to Parsell et al. From the benefit of these improvements, we obtain an extended range for the variables compared to the range obtained from standard arguments only.
In this paper, a new formula for π^(2)(N) is formulated, it is a function that counts the number of semi-primes not exceeding a given number N. A semi-prime is a natural number that is the product of precisely two prime numbers, the two primes in the product may equal each other. Semi-prime numbers are also a case of almost primes. Since a formula for this is already known, a new identity that uses the prime counting function is created by equating the two functions.
We prove that, for every modulus $\mathfrak{q}$, every class of the narrow ray class group $H_{\mathfrak{q}}(\mathbf{K})$ of an arbitrary number field $\mathbf{K}$ contains a product of three unramified prime ideals $\mathfrak{p}$ of degree one with $\mathfrak{N}\mathfrak{p}\le (t(\mathbf{K})\mathfrak{N}\mathfrak{q})^3$, where $t(\mathbf{K})$ is an explicit function of $\mathbf{K}$ described in the paper. To achieve this result, we first obtain a sharp explicit Brun-Titchmarsh Theorem for ray classes and then an equally explicit improved Brun-Titchmarsh Theorem for large subgroups of narrow ra…
We study the properties of the product, which runs over the primes, $$\mathfrak{p}_n = \prod_{s_p(n) \, \geq \, p} p \quad (n \geq 1),$$ where $s_p(n)$ denotes the sum of the base-$p$ digits of $n$. One important property is the fact that $\mathfrak{p}_n$ equals the denominator of the Bernoulli polynomial $B_n(x) - B_n$, where we provide a short $p$-adic proof. Moreover, we consider the decomposition $\mathfrak{p}_n = \mathfrak{p}_n^- \cdot \mathfrak{p}_n^+$, where $\mathfrak{p}_n^+$ contains only those primes $p > \sqrt{n}$. Let $ω( \cdot )$ denote the number of prime divisors. We show that $…
In RSA cryptography numbers of the form $pq$, with $p$ and $q$ two distinct proportional primes play an important role. For a fixed real number $r>1$ we formalize this by saying that an integer $pq$ is an RSA-integer if $p$ and $q$ are primes satisfying $p<q\le rp$. Recently Dummit, Granville and Kisilevsky showed that substantially more than a quarter of the odd integers of the form $pq$ up to $x$, with $p, q$ both prime, satisfy $p\equiv q\equiv 3\pmod{4}$. In this paper we investigate this phenomenon for RSA-integers. We establish an analogue of a strong form of the prime number theorem wit…
We study the problem of writing Gaussian primes as the sum of two squares, both of which are interesting arithmetically, in particular, when one is the square of a prime and the other the square of an almost-prime.
We survey some past conditional results on the distribution of large differences between consecutive primes and examine how the Hardy-Littlewood prime k-tuples conjecture can be applied to this question.
There are many formulations of problems that have been proven to be equivalent to the Riemann Hypothesis in modern mathematics. In this paper we look at the formulation of an inequality derived by Robin in 1984 that proves the Riemann Hypothesis true if and only if Robin's Inequality is true for all $n\geq 5040$. In this paper we look at explicit products of prime numbers and show that if a given $n=p_1^{k_1}p_2^{k_2}\ldots p_m^{k_m}$ satisfies Robin's Inequality, then $n=P_1^{k_1}P_2^{k_2}\ldots P_m^{k_m}$ with $p_j \leq P_j$ also satisfies the inequality. We also then offer two conjectures t…
We explore the relationship between elliptic Korselt numbers of Type I, a class of pseudoprimes introduced by Silverman in [20], and anomalous primes. We generalize a result in [20] that gives sufficient conditions for an elliptic Korselt number of Type I to be a product of anomalous primes. Finally, we prove that almost all elliptic Korselt numbers of Type I of the form n=pq are a product of anomalous primes
For any $k\geq 1$, we study the distribution of the difference between the number of integers $n\leq x$ with $ω(n)=k$ or $Ω(n)=k$ in two different arithmetic progressions, where $ω(n)$ is the number of distinct prime factors of $n$ and $Ω(n)$ is the number of prime factors of $n$ counted with multiplicity . Under some reasonable assumptions, we show that, if $k$ is odd, the integers with $Ω(n)=k$ have preference for quadratic non-residue classes; and if $k$ is even, such integers have preference for quadratic residue classes. This result confirms a conjecture of Richard Hudson. However, the in…
Consider a $q$-Weil polynomial $f$ of degree $2g$. Using an equidistribution assumption that is too strong to be true, we define and compute a product of local relative densities of matrices in $\rm{GSp}_{2g}(\mathbb{F}_\ell)$ with characteristic polynomial $f\mod\ell$ when $g$ is an odd prime. This infinite product is closely related to a ratio of class numbers. When $g=3$ we conjecture that the product gives the size of an isogeny class of principally polarized abelian threefolds.
A classical problem in analytic number theory is to study the distribution of $αp$ modulo 1, where $α$ is irrational and $p$ runs over the set of primes. We consider the subsequence generated by the primes $p$ such that $p+2$ is an almost-prime (the existence of infinitely many such $p$ is another topical result in prime number theory) and prove that its distribution has a similar property.
