In this paper, we study the parabolic BGG categories for graded Lie superalgebras of Cartan type over complex numbers. The gradation of such a Lie superalgebra $\ggg$ naturally arises, with the zero component $\ggg_0$ being a reductive Lie algebra. We first show that there are only two proper parabolic subalgebras containing Levi subalgebra $\ggg_0$: the ``maximal one" $\sfp_\max$ and the ``minimal one" $\sfp_\min$. Furthermore, the parabolic BGG category arising from $\sfp_\max$, essentially turns out to be a subcategory of the one arising from $\sfp_\min$. Such a priority of $\sfp_\min$ in the sense of representation theory reduces the question to the study of the ``minimal parabolic" BGG category $\comi$ associated with $\sfp_\min$. We prove the existence of projective covers of simple objects in these categories, which enables us to establish a satisfactory block theory. Most notably, our main results are as follows:
(1) We classify and obtain a precise description of the blocks of $\comi$.
(2) We investigate indecomposable tilting and indecomposable projective modules in $\comi$, and compute their character formulas.
We determine the Verma multiplicities of standard filtrations of projective modules for integral atypical blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ for the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{osp}(3|4)$ by way of translation functors. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplicities of Verma modules using BGG reciprocity.
We determine the Verma multiplicities and the characters of projective modules for atypical blocks in the BGG Category O for the general linear Lie superalgebras $\frak{gl}(2|2)$ and $\frak{gl}(3|1)$. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplcities of Verma modules in the atypicality 2 block of $\frak{gl}(2|2)$.
We construct a Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand type resolution in terms of direct sums of Kac modules for the finite-dimensional irreducible tensor representations of the general linear superalgebra. As a consequence it follows that the unique maximal submodule of a corresponding reducible Kac module is generated by its proper singular vector.
The main focus of this paper is Bott-Borel-Weil (BBW) theory for basic classical Lie superalgebras. We take a purely algebraic self-contained approach to the problem. A new element in this study is twisting functors, which we use in particular to prove that the top of the cohomology groups of BBW theory for generic weights is described by the recently introduced star action. We also study the algebra of regular functions, related to BBW theory. Then we introduce a weaker form of genericness, relative to the Borel subalgebra and show that the virtual BGG reciprocity of Gruson and Serganova beco…
We develop a reduction procedure which provides an equivalence from an arbitrary block of the BGG category for the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ to a "$\mathbb{Z}\pm s$-weights" ($s\in \mathbb{C}$) block of a BGG category for finite direct sum of queer Lie superalgebras. We give descriptions of blocks. We also establish equivalences between certain maximal parabolic subcategories for $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ and blocks of atypicality-one of the category of finite-dimensional modules for $\mathfrak{gl}(\ell|n-\ell)$.
We study tilting and projective-injective modules in a parabolic BGG category $\mathcal O$ for an arbitrary classical Lie superalgebra. We establish a version of Ringel duality for this type of Lie superalgebras which allows to express the characters of tilting modules in terms of those of simple modules in that category. We also obtain a classification of projective-injective modules in the full BGG category $\mathcal O$ for all simple classical Lie superalgebras. We then classify and give an explicit combinatorial description of parabolic subalgebras of the periplectic Lie superalgebras and …
We apply the super duality formalism recently developed by the authors to obtain new equivalences of various module categories of general linear Lie superalgebras. We establish the correspondence of standard, tilting, and simple modules, as well as the identification of the u-homology groups, under these category equivalences. As an application, we obtain a complete solution of the irreducible character problem for some new parabolic BGG categories of gl(m|n)-modules, including the full BGG category of gl(m|2)-modules, in terms of type A Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
We derive explicit formulas for the inverses of the Cartan matrices of the simple Lie algebras and the basic classical Lie superalgebras, as well as for their infinite generalizations.
Finite dimensional modular Lie superalgebras over algebraically closed fields with indecomposable Cartan matrices are classified under some technical, most probably inessential, hypotheses. If the Cartan matrix is invertible, the corresponding Lie superalgebra is simple otherwise the quotient of the derived Lie superalgebra modulo center is simple (if its rank is greater than 1). Eleven new exceptional simple modular Lie superalgebras are discovered. Several features of classic notions, or notions themselves, are clarified or introduced, e.g., Cartan matrix, several versions of restrictedness …
Recently Alberto Elduque listed all simple and graded modulo 2 finite dimensional Lie algebras and superalgebras whose odd component is the spinor representation of the orthogonal Lie algebra equal to the even component, and discovered one exceptional such Lie superalgebra in characteristic 5. For this Lie superalgebra all inequivalent Cartan matrices (in other words, inequivalent systems of simple roots) are listed together with defining relations between analogs of its Chevalley generators.
All inequivalent Cartan matrices (in other words, inequivalent systems of simple roots) of the ten simple exceptional finite dimensional Lie superalgebras in characteristic 3, recently identified by Cunha and Elduque as constituents of Elduque's superization of the Freudenthal Magic Square, are listed together with defining relations between analogs of their Chevalley generators.
Let $\mathbb{k}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $ p>0. $ In this short note, we illustrate a class of Lie superalgebras over $ \mathbb{k} $ such that the category of restricted supermodules is of one block. As an application, if $ p>3 $ and $ \mathfrak{g} $ is a graded restricted Cartan type Lie superalgebra of type W, S and H, then the category of restricted $ \mathfrak{g} $ supermodules is of one block.
We classify the blocks, compute the Verma flags of tilting and projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $G(3)$. The projective injective modules in $\mathcal O$ are classified. We also compute the Jordan-Hölder multiplicities of the Verma modules in $\mathcal O$.
We study a semisimple extension of a Takiff superalgebra which turns out to have a remarkably rich representation theory. We determine the blocks in both the finite-dimensional and BGG module categories and also classify the Borel subalgebras. We further compute all extension groups between two finite-dimensional simple objects and prove that all non-principal blocks in the finite-dimensional module category are Koszul.
The analogs of Chevalley generators are offered for simple (and close to them) Z-graded complex Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras of polynomial growth without Cartan matrix. We show how to derive the defining relations between these generators and explicitly write them for a "most natural" ("distinguished" in terms of Penkov and Serganova) system of simple roots. The results are given mainly for Lie superalgebras whose component of degree zero is a Lie algebra (other cases being left to the reader). Observe presentations of exceptional Lie superalgebras and Lie superalgebras of hamiltonian ve…
Let $A_{m,n}$ be the tensor product of the polynomial algebra in $m$ even variables and the exterior algebra in $n$ odd variables over the complex field $\C$, and the Witt superalgebra $W_{m,n}$ be the Lie superalgebra of superderivations of $A_{m,n}$. In this paper, we classify the non-trivial simple bounded weight $W_{m,n}$ modules with respect to the standard Cartan algebra of $W_{m,n}$. Any such module is a simple quotient of a tensor module $F(P,L(V_1\otimes V_2))$ for a simple weight module $P$ over the Weyl superalgebra $\mathcal K_{m,n}$, a finite-dimensional simple $\gl_m$-module $V_1…
We provide a new proof of the super duality equivalence between infinite-rank parabolic BGG categories of general linear Lie (super) algebras conjectured by Cheng and Wang and first proved by Cheng and Lam. We do this by establishing a new uniqueness theorem for tensor product categorifications motivated by work of Brundan, Losev, and Webster. Moreover we show that these BGG categories have Koszul graded lifts and super duality can be lifted to a graded equivalence.
For the BGG category of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of half-integer weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture à la Brundan is formulated in terms of categorical canonical basis of the $n$th tensor power of the natural representation of the quantum group of type $C$. For the BGG category of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of congruent non-integral weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture is formulated in terms of canonical basis of a mixed tensor of the natural representation and its dual of the quantum group of type $A$. We also establish a character formula for the finite-dimensional irreducible $\mathfrak{…
Using tensor categories, we present new constructions of several of the exceptional simple Lie superalgebras with integer Cartan matrix in characteristic $p = 3$ and $p = 5$ from the complete classification of modular Lie superalgebras with indecomposable Cartan matrix and their simple subquotients over algebraically closed fields by Bouarroudj, Grozman, and Leites in 2009. Specifically, let $\mathbfα_p$ denote the kernel of the Frobenius endomorphism on the additive group scheme $\mathbb{G}_a$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$. The Verlinde category $\mathrm{Ver}_p$ is …
We develop a reduction procedure which provides an equivalence (as highest weight categories) from an arbitrary block (defined in terms of the central character and the integral Weyl group) of the BGG category O for a general linear Lie superalgebra to an integral block of O for (possibly a direct sum of) general linear Lie superalgebras. We also establish indecomposability of blocks of O.
For modular Lie superalgebras, new notions are introduced: Divided power homology and divided power cohomology. For illustration, we give presentations (in terms of analogs of Chevalley generators) of finite dimensional Lie (super)algebras with indecomposable Cartan matrix in characteristic 2 (and in other characteristics for completeness of the picture). We correct the currently available in the literature notions of Chevalley generators and Cartan matrix in the modular and super cases, and an auxiliary notion of the Dynkin diagram. In characteristic 2, the defining relations of simple classi…
We study three related topics in representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras. The first one is classification of primitive ideals, i.e. annihilator ideals of simple modules, and inclusions between them. The second topic concerns Arkhipov's twisting functors on the BGG category O. The third topic addresses deformed orbits of the Weyl group. These take over the role of the usual Weyl group orbits for Lie algebras, in the study of primitive ideals and twisting functors for Lie superalgebras.
We classify simple Whittaker modules for classical Lie superalgebras in terms of their parabolic decompositions. We establish a type of Miličić-Soergel equivalence of a category of Whittaker modules and a category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. For classical Lie superalgebras of type I, we reduce the problem of composition factors of standard Whittaker modules to that of Verma modules in their BGG categories $\mathcal O$. As a consequence, the composition series of standard Whittaker modules over the general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$ and the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras…
We solve two problems in representation theory for the periplectic Lie superalgebra pe(n), namely the description of the primitive spectrum in terms of functorial realisations of the braid group and the decomposition of category O into indecomposable blocks. To solve the first problem we establish a new type of equivalence between category O for all (not just simple or basic) classical Lie superalgebras and a category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. The latter bimodules have a left action of the Lie superalgebra but a right action of the underlying Lie algebra. To solve the second problem we esta…
We establish character formulae for representations of the one-parameter family of simple Lie superalgebras $D(2|1;ζ)$. We provide a complete description of the Verma flag multiplicities of the tilting modules and the projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of integral weights, for any complex parameter $ζ$. The composition factors of all Verma modules in $\mathcal O$ are then obtained.
We study Kostant cohomology and Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolutions for finite dimensional representations of basic classical Lie superalgebras and reductive Lie superalgebras based on them. For each choice of parabolic subalgebra and irreducible representation of such a Lie superalgebra, there is a natural definition of the derivative and coderivative, which define the (co)homology groups. We prove that a necessary condition to have a resolution of an irreducible module in terms of Verma modules is complete reducibility of the cohomology groups. Essentially, if it exists, every such a resol…
Generalizing the super duality formalism for finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of type $ABCD$, we establish an equivalence between parabolic BGG categories of a Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra and a Kac-Moody Lie algebra. The characters for a large family of irreducible highest weight modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra are then given in terms of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the first time. We formulate a notion of integrable modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra via super duality, and show that these integrable modules form a semisimple tensor subcategor…
We completely describe presentations of Lie superalgebras with Cartan matrix if they are simple Z-graded of polynomial growth. Such matrices can be neither integer nor symmetrizable. There are non-Serre relations encountered. In certain cases there are infinitely many relations. Our results are applicable to the Lie algebras with the same Cartan matrices as the Lie superalgebras considered.
Over algebraically closed fields of characteristic p>2, prolongations of the simple finite dimensional Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras with Cartan matrix are studied for certain simplest gradings of these algebras. Several new simple Lie superalgebras are discovered, serial and exceptional, including superBrown and superMelikyan superalgebras. Simple Lie superalgebras with Cartan matrix of rank 2 are classified.
We show that, for many Lie superalgebras admitting a compatible $\mathbb{Z}$-grading, Kac induction functor gives rise to a bijection between simple supermodules over a Lie superalgebra and simple supermodules over the even part of this Lie superalgebra. This reduces the classification problem for the former to the one for the latter. Our result applies to all classical Lie superalgebra of type $I$, in particular, to the general linear Lie superalgebra $\gl(m|n)$. In the latter case we also show that the rough structure of simple $\gl(m|n)$-supermodules and also that of Kac supermodules depend…
In this paper we define integral forms for the universal enveloping superalgebras of the map superalgebras of Cartan type complex Lie superalgebras, and exhibit explicit integral bases for these integral forms.
We describe all blocks of the category of finite-dimensional $\mathfrak{q}(3)$-supermodules by providing their extension quivers. We also obtain two general results about the representation of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$: we show that the Ext quiver of the standard block of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ is obtained from the principal block of $\mathfrak{q}(n-1)$ by identifying certain vertices of the quiver and prove a ''virtual'' BGG-reciprocity for $\mathfrak{q}(n)$. The latter result is used to compute the radical filtrations of $\mathfrak{q}(3)$ projective covers.
Boe, Kujawa and Nakano recently investigated relative cohomology for classical Lie superalgebras and developed a theory of support varieties. The dimensions of these support varieties give a geometric interpretation of the combinatorial notions of defect and atypicality due to Kac, Wakimoto, and Serganova. In this paper we calculate the cohomology ring of the Cartan type Lie superalgebra W(n) relative to the degree zero component W(n)_{0} and show that this ring is a finitely generated polynomial ring. This allows one to define support varieties for finite dimensional W(n)-supermodules which a…
We introduce super Yangians of $\mathfrak{gl}(V),\mathfrak{sl}(V)$ (in the new Drinfeld realization) associated to all Dynkin diagrams of $\mathfrak{gl}(V)$, where $V$ is a finite-dimensional super vector space. We show that all of them are isomorphic to the super Yangians introduced by Maxim Nazarov, by identifying them with the corresponding RTT super Yangians. However, their "positive halves" are not pairwise isomorphic, and we obtain the shuffle algebra realizations of those. We adapt the latter to the trigonometric setup by obtaining the shuffle algebra realizations of the "positive halve…
We establish a maximal parabolic version of the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture \cite[Conjecture 5.10]{CKW} for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}_{k,ζ}$ of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of "$\pm ζ$-weights", where $k\leq n$ and $ζ\in\mathbb{C} \setminus \frac{1}{2} \mathbb{Z}$. As a consequence, the irreducible characters of these $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules in this maximal parabolic category are given by the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of type $A$ Lie algebras. As an application, closed character formulas for a class of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules resembling polynomial and Kostant modules of the general linea…
We study the truncation functors and show the existence of projective cover of each irreducible module in parabolic BGG category $\mathcal O$ over infinite rank Lie algebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$. Moreover, $\mathcal O$ is a Koszul category. As a consequence, the corresponding parabolic BGG category $\overline{\mathcal O}$ over infinite rank Lie superalgebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$ through the super duality is also a Koszul category.
We propose a new realization, using Harish-Chandra bimodules, of the Serre functor for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ associated to a semi-simple complex finite dimensional Lie algebra. We further show that our realization carries over to classical Lie superalgebras in many cases. Along the way we prove that category $\mathcal{O}$ and its parabolic generalizations for classical Lie superalgebras are categories with full projective functors. As an application we prove that in many cases the endomorphism algebra of the basic projective-injective module in (parabolic) category $\mathcal{O}$ for c…
We classify blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of modules of non-integral weights for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $G(3)$. We compute the characters for tilting modules of non-integral weights in $\mathcal O$. Reduction methods are established to connect non-integral blocks of $G(3)$ with blocks of the special linear Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$, the exceptional Lie algebra $G_2$, the general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$, $\mathfrak{gl}(2|1)$ and the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(3|2)$.
A contragredient Lie superalgebra is a superalgebra defined by a Cartan matrix. A contragredient Lie superalgebra has finite-growth if the dimensions of the graded components (in the natural grading) depend polynomially on the degree. In this paper we classify finite-growth contragredient Lie superalgebras. Previously, such a classification was known only for the symmetrizable case.
A contragredient Lie superalgebra is a superalgebra defined by a Cartan matrix. In general, a contragredient Lie superalgebra is not finite dimensional, however it has a natural Z-grading by finite dimensional components. A contragredient Lie superalgebra has finite growth if the dimensions of these graded components depend polynomially on the degree. We discuss the classification of finite-growth contragredient Lie superalgebras. (Joint work with Vera Serganova)
In the framework of canonical and dual canonical bases of Fock spaces, Brundan in 2003 formulated a Kazhdan-Lusztig type conjecture for the characters of the irreducible and tilting modules in the BGG category for the general linear Lie superalgebra for the first time. In this paper, we prove Brundan's conjecture and its variants associated to all Borel subalgebras in full generality.
We give an analog of a Chevalley-Serre presentation for the Lie superalgebras W(n) and S(n) of Cartan type. These are part of a wider class of Lie superalgebras, the so-called tensor hierarchy algebras, denoted W(g) and S(g), where g denotes the Kac-Moody algebra A_r, D_r or E_r. Then W(A_{n-1}) and S(A_{n-1}) are the Lie superalgebras W(n) and S(n). The algebras W(g) and S(g) are constructed from the Dynkin diagram of the Borcherds-Kac-Moody superalgebras B(g) obtained by adding a single grey node (representing an odd null root) to the Dynkin diagram of g. We redefine the algebras W(A_r) and …
For the exceptional finite-dimensional modular Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}(A)$ with indecomposable Cartan matrix $A$, and their simple subquotients, we computed non-isomorphic Lie superalgebras constituting the homologies of the odd elements with zero square. These homologies are~key ingredients in the Duflo--Serganova approach to the representation theory. There were two definitions of defect of Lie superalgebras in the literature with different ranges of application. We suggest a third definition and an easy-to-use way to find its value. In positive characteristic, we found out one more …
We classify blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of modules of non-integral weights for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $D(2|1;ζ)$. We establish various reduction methods, which connect some types of non-integral blocks of $D(2|1;ζ)$ with integral blocks of general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}{(1|1)}$ and $\mathfrak{gl}{(2|1)}$. We compute the characters for irreducible $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of non-integral weights in $\mathcal O$.
This article classifies the real forms of Lie Superalgebra by Vogan diagrams, developing Borel and de Seibenthal theorem of semisimple Lie algebras for Lie superalgebras. A Vogan diagram is a Dynkin diagram of triplet $(\mathfrak{g}_{C},\mathfrak{h_{\bar{0}}},\triangle^{+})$, where $\mathfrak{g}_{C}$ is a real Lie superalgebra, $\mathfrak{h_{\bar{0}}}$ cartan subalgebra, $\triangle^{+}$ positive root system. Although the classification of real forms of contragradient Lie superalgebras is already done. But our method is a quicker one to classify.
In Kac's classification of finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras, the contragredient ones can be constructed from Dynkin diagrams similar to those of the simple finite-dimensional Lie algebras, but with additional types of nodes. For example, $A(n-1,0) = \mathfrak{sl}(1|n)$ can be constructed by adding a "gray" node to the Dynkin diagram of $A_{n-1} = \mathfrak{sl}(n)$, corresponding to an odd null root. The Cartan superalgebras constitute a different class, where the simplest example is $W(n)$, the derivation algebra of the Grassmann algebra on $n$ generators. Here we present a novel construct…
A Vogan diagram is a Dynkin diagram with a Cartan involution of twisted affine superlagebras based on maximally compact Cartan subalgebras. This article construct the Vogan diagrams of twisted affine superalgebras. It is a part of completion of classification of vogan diagrams to superalgebras cases.
Recently, Grozman and Leites returned to the original Cartan's description of Lie algebras to interpret the Melikyan algebras (for p<7) and several other little-known simple Lie algebras over algebraically closed fields for p=3 as subalgebras of Lie algebras of vector fields preserving nonintegrable distributions analogous to (or identical with) those preserved by G(2), O(7), Sp(4) and Sp(10). The description was performed in terms of Cartan-Tanaka-Shchepochkina prolongs using Shchepochkina's algorithm and with the help of SuperLie package. Grozman and Leites also found two new series of simpl…
In this paper, we characterize quasi-integrable modules, of nonzero level, over twisted affine Lie superalgebras. We show that quasi-integrable modules are not necessarily highest weight modules. We prove that each quasi-integrable module is parabolically induced from a cuspidal module, over a finite dimensional Lie superalgebra having a Cartan subalgebra whose corresponding root system just contain real roots; in particular, the classification of quasi-integrable modules is reduced to the known classification of cuspidal modules over such Lie superalgebras.
