In this paper we describe the ideal category of a ring R as preadditive proper category. Further it is also shown that the cones in this category is a ring with appropriate addition and multiplication.
Ideals are used to define homological functors for additive categories. In abelian categories the ideals corresponding to the usual universal objects are principal, and the construction reduces, in a choice dependent way, to homology groups. Applications are considered: derived categories and functors.
This paper contains results from two areas -- formal theory of Kan extensions and concrete categories. The contribution to the former topic is based on the extension of the concept of Kan extension to the cones and we prove that limiting cones create Kan extensions. The latter topic focuses on two significant families of concrete categories over an arbitrary category. Beck categories are defined by preservance properties while newly introduced l-algebraic categories are described by limits of categories of functor algebras. The latter family is shown to be rather natural. The well known Beck's…
In proper homotopy theory, the original concept of point used in the classical homotopy theory of topological spaces is generalized in order to obtain homotopy groups that study the infinite of the spaces. This idea: "Using any arbitrary object as base point" and even "any morphism as zero morphism" can be developed in most of the algebraic homotopy theories. In particular, categories with a natural cone have a generalized homotopy theory obtained through the relative homotopy relation. Generalized homotopy groups and exact sequences of them are built so that respective classical pointed ones …
In this short note, for a morphism of Waldhausen categories $f\colon \mathbb{A} = (\mathcal{A} ,w_{\mathbb{A}}) \to \mathbb{B} = (\mathcal{B},w_{\mathbb{B}})$, we will define $\operatorname{Cone} f$ to be a Waldhausen category. There exists the canonical morphism of Waldhausen categories $κ_f\colon \mathbb{B}\to \operatorname{Cone} f$. We will show that the sequence $\mathbb{A}\overset{f}{\to}\mathbb{B}\overset{κ_f}{\to}\operatorname{Cone}f$ induces fibration sequence of spaces $K(\mathbb{A})\overset{K(f)}{\to}K(\mathbb{B})\overset{K(κ_f)}{\to} K(\operatorname{Cone} f)$ on connective $K$-theor…
In this paper, we study the ideal approximation theory associated to almost $n$-exact structures in the $n$-exangulated category. The notions of $n$-ideal cotorsion pairs and $n$-$\mathbb{F}$-phantom morphisms are introduced and studied. In particular, let $\mathscr{C}$ be an extriangulated category which satisfies the condition (WIC) and $\mathcal{T}$ be a nicely embedded $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$, we prove Salce's Lemma in $\mathcal{T}$.
We generalize the notion of nuclear maps from functional analysis by defining nuclear ideals in tensored *-categories. The motivation for this study came from attempts to generalize the structure of the category of relations to handle what might be called ``probabilistic relations''. The compact closed structure associated with the category of relations does not generalize directly, instead one obtains nuclear ideals. We introduce the notion of nuclear ideal to analyze these classes of morphisms. In compact closed categories, we see that all morphisms are nuclear, and in the category of Hilber…
It has been proved by Bergh and Thaule that the higher mapping cone axiom is equivalent to the higher octahedral axiom for n-angulated categories. In this note, we use homotopy cartesian diagrams to give several new equivalent statements of the higher mapping cone axiom, which are applied to explain the higher octahedral axiom.
K. S. S. Nambooripad intoduced nornal categories to enable to describe the structure of regular semigroups fully. In this paper we describe the ideal categories of the regular semigroup $OX_n,$ of non-invertible order-preserving transformations on a finite chain $X_n=\{1\leq 2\leq \cdots \leq n \}$ which are normal categories. Further it is shown that the principal left ideal category of $OX_n$ as the power set category $P_o(X_n)$ of $OX_n$ and the principal right ideal category as $\prod_o(X_n)$ category of ordered partitions of $X_n$ and described the cone semigroup $T\mathscr L(OX_n)$ and p…
Given a 2-category $\mathcal{A}$, a $2$-functor $\mathcal{A} \overset {F} {\longrightarrow} \mathcal{C}at$ and a distinguished 1-subcategory $Σ\subset \mathcal{A}$ containing all the objects, a $σ$-cone for $F$ (with respect to $Σ$) is a lax cone such that the structural $2$-cells corresponding to the arrows of $Σ$ are invertible. The conical $σ$-limit is the universal (up to isomorphism) $σ$-cone. The notion of $σ$-limit generalises the well known notions of pseudo and lax limit. We consider the fundamental notion of $σ$-filtered} pair $(\mathcal{A}, \, Σ)$ which generalises the notion of 2-f…
In this paper we present $2$-category theory from the perspective of Gray-categories using the graphical calculus of separated surface diagrams. As an extended example we consider cones and limits of $2$-functors. Then we use the canonical adjunction between $2$-computads and $2$-categories to interpret the comparison structure of lax functors and extend the surface diagram calculus with compositor sheets in order to represent and reason about them.
We discuss the axioms for an n-angulated category, recently introduced by Geiss, Keller and Oppermann. In particular, we introduce a higher octahedral axiom, and show that it is equivalent to the mapping cone axiom for an n-angulated category. For a triangulated category, the mapping cone axiom, our octahedral axiom and the classical octahedral axiom are all equivalent.
We generalize the notion of an admissible ideal from path algebras to (small) k-linear categories that satisfy the Krull--Remak--Schmidt--Azumaya assumption. In our treatment we first prove some general results that are analogous to general results for path algebras and admissible ideals. We then cover generalizations of relations generated by paths of length two, which we call point relations, and more general length relations. We conclude the paper with several examples and an appendix containing further discussion on length relations.
We study ideal cotorsion pairs associated to weak proper classes of triangles in extension closed subcategories of triangulated categories. This approach allows us to extend the recent ideal approximations theory developed by Fu, Herzog et al. for exact categories in the above mentioned context, and to provide simplified proofs for the ideal versions of some standard results as Salce's Lemma, Wakamatsu's Lemma and Christensen's Ghost Lemma. In the last part of the paper we apply the theory in order to study connections between projective classes (in particular localization or smashing subcateg…

We derive several tools for classifying tensor ideals in monoidal categories. We use these results to classify tensor ideals in Deligne's universal categories RepO, RepGL and RepP. These results are then used to obtain new insight into the second fundamental theorem of invariant theory for the algebraic supergroups of types A,B,C,D,P. We also find short proofs for the classification of tensor ideals in RepS and in the category of tilting modules for SL2(k) with char(k)>0 and for Uq(sl2) with q a root of unity. In general, for a simple Lie algebra g of type ADE, we show that the lattice of such…
We give sufficient conditions to ensure that the ideal $Φ(\mathcal E)$ of $\mathcal E$-phantom maps in a locally $λ$-presentable exact category $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{E})$ is (special) (pre)covering ideal, where $\mathcal E$ is an exact substructure of $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{E})$. As a byproduct, we infer the existence of various covering ideals in categories of sheaves which have a meaningful geometrical motivation. In particular we deal with a Zariski-local notion of phantom maps in categories of sheaves. We would like to point out that our approach is necessarily different from [FGHT13], …
This paper presents a unified framework for determining the congruences on a number of monoids and categories of transformations, diagrams, matrices and braids, and on all their ideals. The key theoretical advances present an iterative process of stacking certain normal subgroup lattices on top of each other to successively build congruence lattices of a chain of ideals. This is applied to several specific categories of: transformations; order/orientation preserving/reversing transformations; partitions; planar/annular partitions; Brauer, Temperley--Lieb and Jones partitions; linear and projec…
In this paper, we introduce and study relative phantom morphisms in extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka and Palu. Then using their properties, we show that if $(\C,\E,\s)$ is an extriangulated category with enough injective objects and projective objects, then there exists a bijective correspondence between any two of the following classes: (1) special precovering ideals of $\C$; (2) special preenveloping ideals of $\C$; (3) additive subfunctors of $\E$ having enough special injective morphisms; and (4) additive subfunctors of $\E$ having enough special projective morphisms. Moreover,…
In this paper we establish an equivalence between the category of graded D-branes of type B in Landau-Ginzburg models with homogeneous superpotential W and the triangulated category of singularities of the fiber of W over zero. The main result is a theorem that shows that the graded triangulated category of singularities of the cone over a projective variety is connected via a fully faithful functor to the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on the base of the cone. This implies that the category of graded D-branes of type B in Landau-Ginzburg models with homogeneous superpotential W …
Let T be a triangulated category, A a graded abelian category and h: T -> A a homology theory on T with values in A. If the functor h reflects isomorphisms, is full and is such that for any object x in A there is an object X in T with an isomorphism between h(X) and x, we prove that A is a hereditary abelian category and the ideal Ker(h) is a square zero ideal which as a bifunctor on T is isomorphic to Ext^1_A(h(-)[1], h(-)).
Motivated by potential applications to theoretical computer science, in particular those areas where the Curry-Howard correspondence plays an important role, as well as by the ongoing search in pure mathematics for feasible approaches to higher category theory, we undertake a detailed study of a new mathematical abstraction, the generalized category. It is a partially defined monoid equipped with endomorphism maps defining sources and targets on arbitrary elements, possibly allowing a proximal behavior with respect to composition. We first present a formal introduction to the theory of general…
In this work, we develop the theory of $k$-idempotent ideals in the setting of dualizing varieties. Several results given previously in \cite{APG} by M. Auslander, M. I. Platzeck, and G. Todorov are extended to this context. Given an ideal $\mathcal{I}$ (which is the trace of a projective module), we construct a canonical recollement which is the analog to a well-known recollement in categories of modules over artin algebras. Moreover, we study the homological properties of the categories involved in such a recollement. Consequently, we find conditions on the ideal $\mathcal{I}$ to obtain quas…
We study the category whose objects are trees (with or without roots) and whose morphisms are contractions. We show that the corresponding contravariant module categories are Noetherian, and we study two natural families of modules over these categories. The first takes a tree to a graded piece of the homology of its unordered configuration space, or to the homology of the unordered configuration space of its cone. The second takes a tree to a graded piece of the intersection homology of the reciprocal plane of its cone, which is a vector space whose dimension is given by a Kazhdan-Lusztig coe…
In this paper, we consider a kind of ideal quotient of an extriangulated category such that the ideal is the kernel of a functor from this extriangulated category to an abelian category. We study a condition when the functor is dense and full, in another word, the ideal quotient becomes abelian. Moreover, a new equivalent characterization of cluster-tilting subcategories is given by applying homological methods according to this functor. As an application, we show that in a connected 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category B, a functorially finite, extension closed subcategory T of B is cluster til…
In this paper we prove that various quasi-categories whose objects are $\infty$-categories in a very general sense are complete: admitting limits indexed by all simplicial sets. This result and others of a similar flavor follow from a general theorem in which we characterize the data that is required to define a limit cone in a quasi-category constructed as a homotopy coherent nerve. Since all quasi-categories arise this way up to equivalence, this analysis covers the general case. Namely, we show that quasi-categorical limit cones may be modeled at the point-set level by pseudo homotopy limit…
We define the spectrum of a tensor triangulated category $K$ as the set of so-called prime ideals, endowed with a suitable topology. In this very generality, the spectrum is the universal space in which one can define supports for objects of $K$. This construction is functorial with respect to all tensor triangulated functors. Several elementary properties of schemes hold for such spaces, e.g. the existence of generic points and some quasi-compactness. Locally trivial morphisms are proved to be nilpotent. We establish in complete generality a classification of thick tensor-ideal subcategories …
We show that various derived categories of torsion modules and contramodules over the adic completion of a commutative ring by a weakly proregular ideal are full subcategories of the related derived categories of modules. By the work of Dwyer-Greenlees and Porta-Shaul-Yekutieli, this implies an equivalence between the (bounded or unbounded) conventional derived categories of the abelian categories of torsion modules and contramodules. Over the adic completion of a commutative ring by an arbitrary finitely generated ideal, we obtain an equivalence between the derived categories of complexes of …
We describe a general framework for prime, completely prime, semiprime, and primitive ideals of an abelian 2-category. This provides a noncommutative version of Balmer's prime spectrum of a tensor triangulated category. These notions are based on containment conditions in terms of thick subcategories of an abelian category and thick ideals of an abelian 2-category. We prove categorical analogs of the main properties of noncommutative prime spectra. Similar notions, starting with Serre subcategories of an abelian category and Serre ideals of an abelian 2-category, are developed. They are linked…
It is a result of Gabriel that hereditary torsion pairs in categories of modules are in bijection with certain filters of ideals of the base ring, called Gabriel filters or Gabriel topologies. A result of Jans shows that this bijection restricts to a correspondence between (Gabriel filters that are uniquely determined by) idempotent ideals and TTF triples. Over the years, these classical results have been extended in several different directions. In this paper we present a detailed and self-contained exposition of an extension of the above bijective correspondences to additive functor categori…

We develop a point-free approach for constructing the Nakano-Vashaw-Yakimov-Balmer spectrum of a noncommutative tensor triangulated category under some mild assumptions. In particular, we provide a conceptual way of classifying radical thick tensor ideals of a noncommutative tensor triangulated category using frame theoretic methods, recovering the universal support data in the process. We further show that there is a homeomorphism between the spectral space of radical thick tensor ideals of a noncommutative tensor triangulated category and the collection of open subsets of its spectrum in the…
We introduce a generalization of the notion of a negligible morphism and study the associated tensor ideals and thick ideals. These ideals are defined by considering deformations of a given monoidal category $\mathcal{C}$ over a local ring $R$. If the maximal ideal of $R$ is generated by a single element, we show that any thick ideal of $\mathcal{C}$ admits an explicitely given modified trace function. As examples we consider various Deligne categories and the categories of tilting modules for a quantum group at a root of unity and for a semisimple, simply connected algebraic group in prime ch…
We introduce the notion of integrality of Grothendieck categories as a simultaneous generalization of the primeness of noncommutative noetherian rings and the integrality of locally noetherian schemes. Two different spaces associated to a Grothendieck category yield respective definitions of integrality, and we prove the equivalence of these definitions using a Grothendieck-categorical version of Gabriel's correspondence, which originally related indecomposable injective modules and prime two-sided ideals for noetherian rings. The generalization of prime two-sided ideals is also used to classi…
