Semi-log canonical varieties are a higher-dimensional analogue of stable curves. They are the varieties appearing as the boundary $Δ$ of a log canonical pair $(X,Δ)$, and also appear as limits of canonically polarized varieties in moduli theory. For certain three-fold pairs $(X,Δ)$ we show how to compute the PL homeomorphism type of the dual complex of a dlt minimal model directly from the normalization data of $Δ$.

We obtain a correct generalization of Shokurov's non-vanishing theorem for log canonical pairs. It implies the base point free theorem for log canonical pairs. We also prove the rationality theorem for log canonical pairs. As a corollary, we obtain the cone theorem for log canonical pairs. We do not need Ambro's theory of quasi-log varieties.
For a fixed pair and fixed exponents, we prove the discreteness of log discrepancies over all log canonical triples formed by attaching a product of ideals with given exponents.

In this short note, we consider the conjecture that the log canonical divisor (resp. the anti-log canonical divisor) $K_X + Δ$ (resp. $-(K_X + Δ)$) on a pair $(X, Δ)$ consisting of a complex projective manifold $X$ and a reduced simply normal crossing divisor $Δ$ on $X$ is ample if it is numerically positive. More precisely, we prove the conjecture for $K_X + Δ$ with $Δ\neq 0$ in dimension 4 and for $-(K_X + Δ)$ with $Δ\neq 0$ in dimension 3 or 4.

It is proved that the global log canonical threshold of a Zariski general Fano complete intersection of index 1 and codimension $k$ in ${\mathbb P}^{M+k}$ is equal to one, if $M\geqslant 2k+3$ and the maximum of the degrees of defining equations is at least 8. We prove an effective vanishing theorem for direct images of log pluricanonical bundles of projective semi-log canonical pairs. As an application, we obtain a semipositivity theorem for direct images of relative log pluricanonical bundles of projective semi-log canonical pairs over curves, which implies the projectivity of the moduli spaces of stable varieties. It is worth mentioning that we do not use the theory of variation of (mixed) Hodge structure.
We prove the finiteness of log pluricanonical representations for projective log canonical pairs with semi-ample log canonical divisor. As a corollary, we obtain that the log canonical divisor of a projective semi log canonical pair is semi-ample if and only if so is the log canonical divisor of its normalization. In this paper the detailed classification of three-dimensional exceptional canonical hypersurface singularities which don't satisfy the condition of well-formedness is given. This result completes the classification of three-dimensional exceptional log canonical hypersurface singularities started in [4] (math.AG 0201025).
We point out an interesting relation between hypersurface elliptic singularities and log Enriques surfaces: with a few exceptions, every hypersurface elliptic singularity define some klt log Enriques surface $(S,Diff)$. In many cases, the log canonical cover of $(S,Diff)$ is a Du Val K3 surface with ``large'' nonsymplectic automorphism group.
Let $(P\in X,Δ)$ be a three dimensional log canonical pair such that $Δ$ has only standard coefficients and $P$ is a center of log canonical singularities for $(X,Δ)$. Then we get an effective bound of the indices of these pairs and actually determine all the possible indices.
